  • How to Install Torque Converter (Stall Converter) Trans Am Firebird WS6 Camaro SS
    This is video on how I installed a Yank Torque Converter in my 2002 WS6 Trans Am. The transmission is a 4L60E or 4L60 I also show how to change transmission fluid and filter as well as add aux Transmission cooler. In the video I had the exhaust off. This is not required to do this. I also did this with jack stands on the ground. It can be done in a driveway. Like I talk about in the video most choose a higher stall speed. I wanted a more friendly driver. The higher the stall speed goes the less streetable it becomes. I did have the exhaust off during install but this is not required to remove transmission. Let me know if you have any questions.

    Great information video now I know I could change out my transmission on my 96 TA
    My transmission went out started slipping and will only run in 1st and 2nd gear 3 and 4 only revs out won't move. And it looked so intimidating to try and change it out I thought you'd have to lift the body off the engine and trans to get it out but I can see now you don't. Those 4L60E
    transmissions have a flaw in the 3 and 4 clutch packs the piston below them the seals start leaking causing it to lose pressure and burns up 3 and 4 clutches.

    Just subbed, great video. Yea alot of guys don't realize how much can be gained with a higher stall conv. without going into the motor or bolt-ons. Here in Vegas I have t-top '98 T/A in Sebring Silver all stock 2nd owner with 107k. It's so hard to find any that haven't been modified. I get guys coming up to the door wanting to buy it but I won't sell LOL best car I have ever owned. The sun and heat are a bitch on car batteries ( I just replaced the bat the other day lol) (if you can get 3 yrs on a battery here in Vegas you are doing good ) and paint but I keep it under the carport and ceramic coated and it still looks great for a 24 yr old car. Hey bud, I really appreciate these videos, once I watch them over and over a few times, with the right tools I feel I could do it, my next main project is removing the trans, I think my rear main is leaking even though I had it "fixed" a few years back by a shop. I'm not sure what else it could be, I've replaced the oil pan gasket, when I look up into the access plates for the trans, the flexplate area is dry, also the OPSU is dry, I'm thinking it might be the rear main again because I'm not sure if the shop did this or not, but weren't they supposed to put silicone or whatever in the corners.

    • @TWAMotorsports
      @TWAMotorsports  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a 2000 Firebird wasn't shifting into drive in the winter but when it warmed up it starts shifting so then we thought it was one or two solenoids which I replaced both did not fix that problem and then it started making a clanky noise and took it to a quick lube and they said it was my flywheel another said it was a flexplate since it is an automatic...So how hard is it to Fix cost and was that the issue causing my shifting problems in the winter?

      So if anyone else read this comment. For LT1 (mines 1997) the bell housing bolts are 14mm and there are 6 of them. 2 on left 2 on top and 2 on right. (There is no 12o clock bolt) I got the 2 on top from the drivers side from behind the trans. The dipstick is hooked up to one of the bolts on passenger side so that's all you have to do to remove the dipstick. It will come off on its own.
      The 2 transmission lines are 1/2 wrench or whatever the metric size is. I only had a 1/2 wrench and I got it out 1/4 turn at a time. Took me like 30min. Then it pulls out. (No clips holding it in to use a pick).
      Also you don't need to remove the starter cables. Since there is space to just tuck the starter in away from the trans (LT1).
      I did this using jack stands on rear axle and for safety I put bricks under the rear tires. In the front I used Rhino ramps, this is a tight fit but I'm small enough to where I could work with it. Once I let the trans down I had to lift the front up and I pulled the trans from the driver side, being extremely careful not to damage the fuel lines. (Caution with the rear jack stands they may want to tilt. Mines tilted slightly when I started to drop the front back down.) Had to re-adjust the rear jacks.
      Thanks to twa motorsports. Really appreciate you responding to the comments. I'm a complete novice so I was intimidated to do this work and my car has sat for years because off it. Now I feel silly. It wasn't as bad as I thought. Heck the hardest part was getting the exhaust off. Spent like (16hrs getting it off). 😂

      Also as you go through each gear, the RPMs dont drop down as much, keeps you up in the ls1s powerband. A higher stall is the single best mods you can do to an a4 F-body. Despite what he said about a "lower" stall to be more street friendly...You can tune the car to lock the converter at any speed say like 50mph and it will feel exactly like stock. As far as street driveability it's all about what your plans with the car are and what you consider streetable. If you are considering camming the car, you don't want a stall like 2800.
