No clue why he left Brenner alive while massacring the other kids, though. He clearly does not like Brenner. I am starting to think Brenner has some secrets that we still do not know, besides, of course, how he survived the events of the first season in the first place.
The reveal was so great I rewatched One's monologue on repeat. I knew there was a reason Jaime Campbell Bower was casted. This is what the show needed, a fleshed out villain.

Not only was it an absolutely brilliantly twist, for me it raises so many more questions about the Upside-down, like is it truly a coincidence as Henry he basically worshipped spiders and the Mind Flayer - apparently the god of the Upside-down - happens to resemble a gigantic smoke monster spider?
As pointed out by a nerd on reddit, when Dustin is fighting Vecna in D&D he rolls an 11, which is not enough to kill Vecna, forshadowing that 11 can't defeat Vecna alone, she needs the help of everyone else, maybe even 9 other people! (11+9=20=defeat vecna)
Mine too. I mean, I still didn't know if she was gonna make it until she dropped to the ground. I could totally see the duffer brothers making her die during her run out. It was making me super anxious
I felt season 3 was a bit of a letdown, but season 4 has really turned the ship back around. Vecna is a creepy, unique villain and it’s really refreshed the show.
Season 3 should have focused more on Billy being the host and leave the cgi mindflayer thing out of the season with later having billy turn on the mindflayer like in the end of the season but with the connection now dropped those that were connected to the mind flayer dropping dead allowing it to seem like a Russian attack
Season 3 was a test run by the Mind Flayer, to try to kill El. It chose Billy as a host because he was physically strong. Billy was granted superhuman strength by being the host, which means the Mind Flayer enhances it's hosts abilities. There will be another host for the Mind Flayer, one way more powerful than Billy. I believe that host is Will, who still has a connection with the Mind Flayer. It is waiting for Will to grow stronger, and when the time is right, Will the wise (possessed) will be born. Maybe that painting is of himself surrounded by the darkness of the Mind Flayer, that's why he is afraid of letting anyone see it
The reveal that vecna was 001 and Henry Creel was absolutely insane. My jaw was on the floor when that slug moved across his arm and I saw the number. That final frame changed the way I watched the entire season when I rewatched it w my family.

I called out he was Vecna as soon as they transitioned nacy reliving Vecna’s memories to 001 telling a story. As soon as 011 started using her powers on Vecna and a hole in his belly I called out that she was creating the first og portal to the upside down. It was pretty obvious but it was still a twist nonetheless

The creepiest scene of the 4th season was when a mild-mannered harmless-looking 001 turns into a diabolical monster with his sinister dark eyes asking Eleven to join him in destroying the humanity. He actually looked like a demon at that point. Production team really did a convincing job of portraying him as such.
The actor they chose to portray Vecna aka 001 does an incredible performance. I absolutely got Pennywise vibes with the similarities to Skarsgard portrayal of the demonic force in IT. Both have similar facial expressions that can seem innocent yet dark, and when they do expose their characters true nature, absolute evil can be displayed with every facial expression made and the darkness they somehow are able to show through their eyes, absolutely horrifying. Amazing job well done by the extraordinary actor chosen for this 4th season of Stranger Things.
I actually think that Eddie guitar scene is going to be his sacrifice scene. He had a talk with Steve about how he hates himself he always runs away from danger. I think he will stay behind to play Nancys favourite song that Steve will know. I just think that conversation with Steve was too on the nose to not kill him off

I really disliked vecna. I thought it was way too far fetched. I also liked the part in the first season that explains the upside down link with el touching the demigorgon. I find it hard that eleven never mentioned 1 to her friends or that portal.
I knew from the moment he told about 001 that it's him - but pure genious to make him Victor's son + the one who caused those murders then eventually became Vecna.
I kinda knew 001 would be that staff who tries to get close with eleven because throughout their conversations he’s dropping subtle hints that would make u think he’s 001. But boy oh boy when they revealed he’s Creed’s son and Vecna that right there was such an epic plot twist and i really enjoyed it! Jamie Campbell totally nailed it!
I kind of figured that Henry was 001. For the simple fact that Victor explicitly states that he died after falling into a coma, they told a suspected serial killer that his potential victim died so he wouldn't have a reason to escape. I figured that Henry maybe accidentally opened a Gate in the Creel house and Vecna manipulated him into being his avatar, like the Flayer did with Billy. I was not expecting him to actually be Vecna. That hit me way out of left field.
Didn’t this season make hint that the Father of Henry was involved in government experiments? I feel it hints for the origin of his powers. They mirror this moment with Hopper when he blamed himself for his daughter’s cancer due to his time in service.
@@pramodbg I think this answer might be the only answer we get to how they all got their powers. Part of me wants to see more information, but the other part of me thinks it should be left ambiguous.
I'm glad you made mention of the spider and Mind Flayer connection. I felt it was subtle but intended to convey that once 001 was in the Upside Down he saw the Mind Flayer as the zenith so to speak. Since he made the spider's being God's of their own worlds/ecosystems. I am also VERY happy that the show has thus far not diminished the Mind Flayer's importance. Though we shall see where things go. I just personally have a pet peeve where villains or antagonists of immense power are swept under the rug. Hell, even the Demagorgon is still incredibly powerful this far into the show. So, props to the writers and overall production!
I love this season thus far up until the huuuuuuuuge exposition and reveal. Just the way they did it and felt it was everything at once. I love this Villain though. And my other pet peeve was the excessive use of CG. The transformation scene in particular could have been omitted. Instead see El vaporizes 001 and camera cuts out for a long period, maybe hear some screams and upside down ambiance. then you see Vecna open his eyes in the upside down. Shot continues like usual and pans to his wrist to seal the deal. Sometimes it’s better leave some scenes to the imagination.
If there’s an underwater gate and a gate where chrissy died, doesn’t that mean there’s also one where Fred died right there in the middle of the road??
I found it interesting that they never showed/explained what his mother did that was so terrible. Also, the Mom, out of all doctor's called Brenner, which makes me think she may have known what kind of experiments he was up to. Just guessing tho.
the terrible thing that his mom did was that she somehow knew that all the visions were Henry's doing and she was thinking of sending him to Dr Brenner and getting a psychiatrist. Once Henry discovered that's what she was thinking, he killed her.
Possibly the best season ever! My favorite is episode 4 Dear Billy, was genuinely scared for Max, and the season mid-finale ep 7 was mindblowing and so intense. I love how they created the story that fits so well together and doesn't feel forced at all. Everything makes sense and everything flows so naturally. I also love that this season is much more gruesome.
A little part of me knew that she would have an experience with Vecna in the scene with her mother, but I was nevertheless hoping it would not happen; that, at least, Max could find _some_ comfort in the safety of her mother's arms.
I realized 001 was Vecna when he snapped the guard’s neck. I didn’t think he was anything good at that point….. the way he told the backstory was so haunting and chilling. What a great actor and what an incredible climax to the ending!!!
Jeez! I had no idea Vecna was 001 and Victor's son. And the one whom banished him to the upside-down was Eleven. Now things are making more sense, and it's getting more exciting. Cause it's actually El who can end Vecna and close the Upside-down's gates one and for all. Now that Nancy knows the truth, it's probably her who can help El to do this. Can wait till 1st of Jul to see what will happen. This show is amazing and this season is by far my fav one.
I hope volume 2 gives us explanation on where the mind flayer is, who’s in control of the upside down and what are Vecna’s and the mind flayer’s connection
Fr. It was odd to me that they dropped most of the story beats from s2 and went differently in s3 & now 4. Like for example Will having powers to communicate and potentially controlling some of the upside down creatures.
The tentacles that connect to Vecna is the Mind Flayer which is the Upside Down…it was mentioned that all upside down is one big brain…upside down thus mind flayer want to conquer the human realm via portals and vecna wants to continue his “work”…they are using each other in a way…
They actually made a very small hint earlier that Vecna was gonna be one of Brenner's psychic experiments. Basically, a few episodes earlier, when giving him the nickname, they also classify Vecna as a dark wizard. They also classified Eleven in their group in earlier seasons as a wizard and/or mage. (So basically they were saying Vecna is just a evil eleven with similar abilities)
I still cannot tell if he was born with the powers or if he was experimented on. I thought at first he was born with it but once found out by Brenner he began to test him. But 001 mentioned when waking from his coma he saw Brenner “again” so now I’m confused
7:04 Eddie rocking out in the upsidedown in the trailers, probably using the power of music to fight Vecna - it's giving me vibes from 'Teen Titans Go!' the night begins to shine storyline. Which is a work of art btw.
I also noticed this season has the Hellfire Club, which is a prominent group on the X-Men comics... and Vecna's father is named Victor Creel, which is very close to Victor Creed, AKA Sabertooth, also from the X-Men universe.
At first i didn't like the addition of Vecna because i felt like they just added him so there was a different set villain every season and he didn't really fit into the story but i definitely stand corrected after i had watched the last episode. this season is great!

Introducing new antagonists is a very good choice. Mind Flayer is still alive / exists, his newer and newer plans are not effective, so he is forced to summon his more powerful subjects to help.

I much prefer the theory that the Mind Flayer is an ancient entity that is responsible for the creation of UD. Besides, it would be weird. Why would something created by Vecne try to take over the world and not Vecna in its own form?
What i really enjoyed about Vecna was the references hinting back at Freddy Krueger. It really gave this more horror and scary feeling that the show was looking for. To the voice and to the haunting the kids in an alternate dimension. It is very nostalgic and it really made me appreciate the show that much more.
I literally just finished the show. I think it’s interesting how in Hoppers prison monologue he talked about curses, war and how his daughters death was because of the chemicals that he was exposed to. At the same time Hawkins was dealing with the Vecna curse, his dad was also in the war, possibly got exposed to chemicals which we know could’ve affected his kin aka Vecna to have his abilities. Idk but either way amazing season can’t wait for July 1st!
Awesome villain, but also awesome writing. I love that the whole crew has come together while apart and they are figuring out how to solve this without solely relying on Eleven to do it all. I LOVE Eleven, but the way they are making each character play an integral role in figuring it out is awesome.
Yea I liked how they even mentioned how easy it was before yet now they really have to work double time. Also the scene where they fight those bats was badass.
Honestly I think he’s the best villain so far and the scariest one yet. Definitely has a swamp thing vibe as well as Freddy looking forward to seeing him more.
1:25 I feel like he accidentally became psychotic because his powers manifested at such a young age, and he had access to too much information. He is "evil" but it almost seems understandable why he'd be so twisted.
3 years of waiting... and they over delivered I loved this, the horror, the charecters, my one negative is that Mike was a bit of a let down, but other than that it's was epic!
1st off, I'm 44... I grew up in the 80s and 90s. So many franchises, movies and shows have tried and failed to capture the essence and culture of the 80s. Stranger Things has managed to do what so many have not. Only The Goldbergs have come close but in more of a "parody" type of way. Stranger Things has nailed the 80s in such a way that I absolutely love. The nostalgia trip that I get from the show is just as powerful as the story... And I can't get enough of it! Season 4 has been a blast to watch. The only complaint I have is how season 4s bad guy managed to remain hidden for 3 seasons. I can tell this guy wasn't thought up until recently. It's easy to see how the higher-ups at Netflix didn't plan for Stranger Things to go the distance. I have to admit though, the writers are doing a good job of weaving this new baddie into the Stranger Things Universe. The idea of 11 having an ex-human turned genius/mind melding monster nemesis with a grudge is pretty darn entertaining and I can't wait to see the endgame! The subplot with Hopper is also incredibly written. I shed my 1st tear watching Stranger Things when Hopper emerged from behind the prison door and fell into into Joyce's arms in what I believe to be one of Stranger Things strongest emotional scenes yet! So YES! Stranger Things: Season 4 is turning out to be my favorite season... So far. Explaining Vecnas absence in the show through the seasons is going to be tricky. I'd rather see the writers try and explain it than not. If it's a "not", then you could almost put Season 4 as a sort of reboot. Complete with orgin and back story (minus a few key details). We'll that's my take on things.

I briefly saw the plot twist when Victor explained his part of the story. He specified that his son fell under a coma but shortly died. I found this sequence odd especially with Vecna's technique of killing for Victor's son was different. I pieced together why Victor also pointed out that his son acted and looked discomfited with the new house. The sad thing is when the actual reveal came around I completely forgot my theory, but when I realized I was correct during the plot twists it amplified the whole scene's affect on me.
I didn’t thought a lot of 001 as a key character to the plot before but when I saw the acting of Jamie Campbell Bower already from the beginning I felt something very similar to Alex delarge (clockwork orange) a sort of chaotic yet shy and charming evil. There I understood that 001 might have a key role there. such an amazing acting
The thing about Vecna and this season that's giving me the heebies in a more existential manner, is his operation as this 'dark mirror' reflecting the things that haunt people inside their minds. Though I'm not religious, I've always been intrigued by the metaphysical constructs of religion. **TW - Suicide** Catholicism has long held that suicide is a sin - apparently connected to the sin of despair, that those who 'commit' suicide do so to try and escape their despair, rather than see forgiveness. I don't hold this view at all (to be clear), but something about it reminds me of other metaphysical stories, based in the Christian good v. evil metaphysics. The movie Jacob's Ladder (1990) has one of my favourite quotes. As Jacob descends into apparent madness, his chiropractor says, "If you're frightened of dying, and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. If you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the Earth." Reflecting on my own dealings with depression, especially in those moments where everything tumbles, becoming worse and worse, where the 'realisation of truth' that you are correct about all the awful things you say about yourself... it really has felt that the fear in my heart has manifested itself as 'demons' - the sort that tear everything apart by the power of my own fearful thoughts. "Fear is the mind killer" say the Bene Gesserit in Dune (and that has a whole literary history in itself) And it's made me wonder about what role this concept plays in the manifestation of evil in the world - of those who do awful, terrible things to others. There are many instances of people describing those who do awful things as seeming to be 'possessed', as if they are taken-hold of by evil, other-worldly forces and those forces animate their evil actions in the world. Perhaps the demons tearing at their life have been externalised, brought to the surface and infliced on others. Pain manifest as evil to others, to 'feed' these demons and allow them to grow. Vecna and the upside down seem to me to be a manifestation of this. Devils, tearing apart life, brought through to the other side and (especially through Vecna), to hold the 'dark mirror' to others and allow that pain and suffering to be constructed into a whole, evil world, seeking to snuff out the life of the right way up. I don't mean offense to anyone who has their own issues they're dealing with. It's hard and life throws many awful things at people. If anyone reading this feels like this resonates in a dark way, please seek help - seek those 'angels' (non-religion / non-denominational / you decide what you like) to set you free. Don't let the upside down take pain and fear to build its evil mirror. This season has been bloody fantastic and looking forward to its finale.

@@FullMetalB Making him a Villain who only resides in the Upside Down like Demogorgons & Mind Flayer would have been blander tbh. At least he has a backstory and a reason to hate eleven now which will make their eventual showdown in the finale way cooler.
@@FullMetalB I don't think he is neccesarily doing it for revenge though. after all if he wanted revenge he would've targeted eleven from the get go. for him it's just his convictions and ideal. sure they are about as twisted as his victims once he is done with them but it's not revenge that drives him.
Maybe it's because he spent a good part of his life with his powers inhibited and then sent to the upside down and we have no indication to assume that the upside down improves their powers so maybe he's not at his true full capacity. hell maybe the mindflayer subdues him as well. if El can pose a threat to the mindflayer avatar on earth as well as stop the massive portal and the tentacles coming from there of the actual flayer it stands to reason the flayer would want to not have the fully powered vecna going around just in case
Here’s the thing though Vecna never asked El to remove the chip. She volunteered because they were friends. So what was his motivation before that? Did he really just want to help El out, did he want her to become what he couldn’t because of the chip? El could have just left him and wished him luck. I hope we get more backstory in episodes 8 and 9!

@@Mattrattmattratt he wanted to team up with her after the massacre as he saw himself in her but when she witnessed his killings and realised that he tricked her she realised what a psycho he was and though she witnessed his massacre he did ask her to join him but she refused hence he turned on her
I think Vecna is the most frightening villain they have had yet. This has been my favorite season of the series so far. The production value and storytelling have definitely matured as the show has. I think the poster that Will was painting in the opening to the first episode will play heavily into what is to come. Not necessarily in this season but possibly for the series finale. Like you said, his art has shown his connection to the Upside Down. This was further emphasized by the fact that it is a replica of Hawkins on the day Will entered. With everything dealing so heavily with psychic phenomena, I wouldn’t be surprised if the kids have been somehow influencing what has emerged from the Upside Down. We shall see…🤔
The face that he eventually got casted out into the upside found thru a portal and becoming Vecna I guess he really became what he engaged beyond what humans can do ans go and are capable of! Season 4 has definitely been Stranger Things version of “ Infinity War” You have three different groups facing an obstacle that all centers to the main villain . At the end of season 3 I remember saying to myself that no matter what happens in season 4 they need to lose in the next season which I still think is gonna happen in the final 2 episodes. Vecna is way too op for everyone to just come together last sec and defeat him . There’re spread out way too far this time . It’s gonna be a brutal defeat. Excellent villain this season. Wow! 001 becoming Vecna was fucking crazy. I really thought S4 wouldn’t be that good..but honestly I thought it was the best season since S1. One thing I maybe missed if someone could explain: Why did 001(Vecna) kill his family in the 50s and then randomly come back in the 80s to continue his rampage? Not sure if I missed something or if this question I’m asking may be answered in S4 part 2
I'm confused about something...If the Upsidedown is stuck in the day that Will entered it, how was Will able to talk with Joyce if the letters in the wall didn't exist at that time?
They explain this using the Brite Lite. They couldn't see the Brite Lite unless it was on, but once they knew it was there they were able to use it to write messages
You can hear echos of what people are saying. I’m season one Joyce says ‘talk to me baby’ and the alphabet is 26 letters which corresponds to the gold dust on the wall. It’s more logical and if will is as nerdy/smart as they say I think he’d have figured it out

Curious how 001 wasn’t the only one with powers. Conceivably he wasn’t the first one either, in spite of the numerical designation. Wondering how many other 001s are out in this universe and how many upside downs there are…
I think that when 001/Vecna was sent into the upside down, he began to morph it into Hawkins where he lived, and made creatures of his 'image' in there to, and when Will was taken to the upside down, it was because Vecna was still making the upside down, with the Demogorgan as his way of seeing Hawkins, and came across will and took him, then learning that 11 escaped to then kill Barb to grow stronger and find where 11 was, because she betrayed him, and when she sent the Demogorgan back into the upside down, he felt like he wasn't strong enough, and began to make more creatures that would be used in Russia to kill the men and grow stronger, then the mind flayer which he felt passionate about because of the Black Widow's, he began to help it grow into the real world, harming people which made him able to use his powers in this season. Sorry for this essay, i'm just a big nerd, and I love making theories on films, tv shows games etc.
Dustin already slept this theory he said vecnas a five star general of the mind flayer. The mind flayer is the “king” of the upside down and Eleven only opened a gate to the upside down. It was already in the shape of Hawkins

The whole theory that Vecna is the creature creator of Upside Down, including the Mind Flayer, doesn't make much sense. A newly arrived Vecna would create what is the most powerful creature in the series? And then his creation would carry out a plan to take power over the normal world? Nonsense.

@Alex Andrews exactly like i went back to season 1 after watching part 1 of 4 and it makes no sense whatsoever... When one goes through the portal it is the upside down i guess but it doesn't resemble hawkins at all She also says they are in the past the day the portal opened and will disappeared yet watching season one... The portal she opened that day is not the same as the one she sent one through these have to be two different events... She must have sent one through a tear in time and space... And then they started experimenting on that... If they are saying that her sending one into the upside down and releasing the demogorgan are the same event... It only makes sense if one was broken into a non corporeal form a purely psychic being and that the demogorgan and the mind flayer are just manifestations of his mind but him not having a form he could not physically leave the upside down because he doesnt have a body... In that case it makes sense if the demogorgan is just a form he possessed but the motivations dont line up... The demogorgan doesn't seem to have a focus on 11... Unless 1 is playing chess an these have all been attempts to come back into the real world using the demogorgan possessing will as the mind flayer... Which would make sense if he needed to reform his physical body doesnt make sense for him to have the same burnt up body as before unless that body has just become mobile again or hes just regained control of it... If all of these things are completely separate then it really doesn't make sense because where has one been for all these years... Unless hes just figuring out that this psychic connection can weaken the boundry but it needs to be broken from the otherside then it would make sense why he allowed nancy and them to enter and then forced them to exit else where because them physically breaking the barrier unlocks the gates.... But it honestly doesn't make sense unless all of this from season one has been one and 11 just had a mental block about 1 which is still confusing unless while possessing the demogorgan he couldn't use psychic ablities or was too weak.... Also if he killed all the other students how do we explain the escaped kids in season 2 that were also experimented on? The time line is getting really confusing.... If one is not the one behind everything and the mind flayer and demogorgan have always been in the upside down and that wasnt created by the psychic connection between one and 11 and she just sent 11 there why does the place one goes two resemble nothing like the upside-down.... Why then also does the upside down mirror hawkins the day will disappeared and not the day she sent one through.... These events clearly have to be separated by some time because she couldn't have escaped right after sending one through And the scientist clearly have an understanding at this point that one is in the upside-down which is why they are gearing up 11.... It really only makes sense in my mind if this mirror dimension was created in the second opening of the portal.... Prior to that a higher dimension did exsist.... But it was not the upside-down yet... The upside down was created when the reopened the gate tethering that higher dimension to hawkins at that point..... The higher dimension has no physical representation until it was observed and then also able to observe and made aware of hawkins at which point it took on the form of Hawkins to create physical access points.... Something it never needed as a purely energetic state of being.... It would also mean time works different in the upside-down and that what was years in the real world may have been a very long time in the upside-down and yet no time at all.... If the mind flayer and one are not connected and one didnt create the mind flayer i cant wrap my mind around how any of this conceivably makes any rational sense If its not some variation of the ideas ive just written where was one this whole time I dont know they have writers that get paid alot of money to write please make it make sense
I really liked Vecna! It was nice to finally get a villain that both felt like an actual threat and was legitimately scary. He looked like Swamp Thing to me and the nods to elm street were awesome.
Freddie Krueger - Freddie Cougar is his hot mother lol. But yeah definitely, even got the actor who played Freddy (Robert Englund) as Victor Creel. Definitely had shades of IT through the series

Vecna’s backstory is one of the best things about this season. I got turned off by season 3 so I kinda decided to ignore the 4th one but after watching a video about season 4 (only first 5 mins of said video’) I decided to watch it. Deadass rn this is one of the best things I watched in these 2 years

I’ve actually got a slightly out there prediction that Vecna actually doesn’t work for The Mind Flayer because he’s captured by the Russians as shown in the Vol 2 trailer. I think Hopper will release it to escape the Russian prison which shows a little scene at Murray smiling at flames which I think will be the mind flayer destroying the prison. I think this will lead to the scene where Vecnas about to kill 11 but The Mind Flayer will be the deciding factor and destroy 1 to retain power of his under world. Kind of like the T Rex killing the Raptors in Jurassic Park

Apparently they've had a lot of the basics since it was created. Like you can hear the clock ringing throughout the first three seasons when the Upside Down is involved. Even Eleven vs 001 was planned from the very beginning.
Theory: The mind flayer is using 001's powers as it wanted to with 011's, though only at this season was he powerful enough to start opening gates again, as 011 as we absolutely evaporated his physical form, so is it possible the upside down we see at the end that looks different is just the 'psychic' or dream like upside down inside of 001's mind as he's being evaporated into the gate. This could be when the mind flayer invaded his mind to his own hive, would also explain the differences in looksof the upside down and maybe some of the timey wimey shenanigans
I think the big thing we’re all forgetting is that above Vecna is the Big Bad, The Mind Flare ??(is that what we call him?) and after defeating Vecna the stage would be set for an actual film length movie of maybe 3 hours or so where everyone all together (so to speak) fights him to save humanity. After all the back and forth with the upside down I’d bet some of the kids will actually have powers like Eleven. Who knows?? But this was awesome to see if you really do a great job of breaking these things down. I loved the series. A little too long in spots to be honest but overall really really good. In particular the cinematography!! Wow those scenes where the kids were riding the bikes in the upside down and then to the others in the real Hawkins was incredible
Love this series. I was their age in the years this show is set and it nails the 80s. Great references to horror movies especially A Nightmare on Elm Street. It's kind of corny now but back then that was a terrifying movie.
I think the villian is a interesting parallel to both Eleven and Krueger since in terms of Krueger he's a madman who wants to slaughter all life around him but like Eleven was misunderstood and mistreated becoming a monster
also there are theorys going around that vecna is elevens father and the funny thing is in one of the nightmare on elm streets movies its revealed freddy Krueger does have a daughter.
One thing i still can’t wrap my mind around is what the other dimension actually is, and how elevens powers are connected to it. She has telekinesis sure, but why is there another dimension? What is it for?
My theory is that it is something like a blank sheet - just a possibility of reality. But the moment it was connected by eleven with Vecna´s mind, it was shaped by it into "upside down" - a twisted version of our reality

@@heavyspoilers It doesn't matter, he says that he remember every victim that he killed, when demogorgon killed barbara it was him too because he was part of the upside down. So if he made the monsters or became part of it doesn't matter because every victim since season 1 was for his binding. I guess he was weak in season 1 and could just control one demogorgon and the way he used to put his victims is exactly like Vecna, Season 2 he could use the mind flyer and all other demo but dart showed an individuality, Season 3 was full him using the mind flyer the way billy talks to eleven is exactly like Vecna's in season but he uses WE(in the context because of mind flyer intentions too).

In the first season of stranger things, we see 11 open a portal after her encounter with the demogorgan but in this season we see her open a portal to send vecna into the upside down, which are in different locations in Hawkins lab. Are there two different portals in Hawkins lab? Just a little confused on the timeline
@@yesimarangel no, it's not a plot hole. She is about 8 years old when she sends Peter/001 into the Upside down (basically creating it). That's in 1979. Then the gate closes behind him. You can even see it in the very first scene, when Brenner asks "What have you done?" There is a small, but closed gate in the background when they show Eleven. Then she continues to live at the lab alone and having lessons with Brenner. Apparently due to the trauma, she forgets the events with Peter. A few years later, in 1983, she opens another gate by mistake - what we saw in season 1. During this time, the Upside down had spread to be a copy of Hawkins. Probably afraid of what she did and of the Demogorgon, Eleven escapes through the way that 001 showed her. (so she actually didn't forget everything, it was just buried deep down and she must have found the way by instinct)
The way he talked about 001 and just his presence made me think he was Vecna. My girlfriend thought he was 1 for sure but not Vecna. I was pretty proud of my guess lol. Either way the reveal of how he became Vecna was incredible!
Vecna is such a great villain ! If not one the best of all TV shows, I can compare him to the Night King from GoT... I kinda don"t want him to die and see more of him. Jamie played the role so so good ! Definitely a great actor !
The First Shadow stageplay suggests that the source of Henry's powers was when his family first moved to the Creel House, & he found himself in an alternate dimension for 10 hours before returning with powers, believed to come from the mindflayer. This suggests that Vecna wasn't inherently evil, & that his relationship with Pattie Newby & the saving of her father from the mindflayer shows that the mindflayer is the actual big villain! Unlike Will, who had the love of his mom Joyce & friends like Mike who saved him from being totally inhabited by the mindflayer in S2, Henry allowed the mindflayer to inhibit him which lead to him murder his mom & young sister, whom when he read their minds, he learned that they rejected him & wanted to send him to Hawkins Lab forever! I think this explains the Will & Vecna parallel, & possibly Will's S5 story arc where after being rejected by Mike, allows the mindflayer to inhibit him taking advantage of his emotional state, & he turns villain & betrays Eleven....but finds a way to redeem himself right at the very end!
It's really refreshing to finally see a human villain in Stranger Things rather than the mind flayer who became a bit mundane after season 2. Vecna definitely fits in the timeline and serves as deeply personal antagonist to Eleven. Can't wait for the final two episodes and that oh so sweet final battle

I think Vecna previously either worshipped or worked with the Mind Flayer. But I see your point about it speaking, Vecna just seems more intriguing as a villain than just a plain giant monster

The reveal was so great I rewatched One's monologue on repeat. I knew there was a reason Jaime Campbell Bower was casted. This is what the show needed, a fleshed out villain.

Not only was it an absolutely brilliantly twist, for me it raises so many more questions about the Upside-down, like is it truly a coincidence as Henry he basically worshipped spiders and the Mind Flayer - apparently the god of the Upside-down - happens to resemble a gigantic smoke monster spider?
As pointed out by a nerd on reddit, when Dustin is fighting Vecna in D&D he rolls an 11, which is not enough to kill Vecna, forshadowing that 11 can't defeat Vecna alone, she needs the help of everyone else, maybe even 9 other people! (11+9=20=defeat vecna)

I felt season 3 was a bit of a letdown, but season 4 has really turned the ship back around. Vecna is a creepy, unique villain and it’s really refreshed the show.
Season 3 should have focused more on Billy being the host and leave the cgi mindflayer thing out of the season with later having billy turn on the mindflayer like in the end of the season but with the connection now dropped those that were connected to the mind flayer dropping dead allowing it to seem like a Russian attack
Season 3 did start falling off the rails. The Russian part was hinted at but still felt like it came out of nowhere

Season 3 was a test run by the Mind Flayer, to try to kill El. It chose Billy as a host because he was physically strong. Billy was granted superhuman strength by being the host, which means the Mind Flayer enhances it's hosts abilities. There will be another host for the Mind Flayer, one way more powerful than Billy. I believe that host is Will, who still has a connection with the Mind Flayer. It is waiting for Will to grow stronger, and when the time is right, Will the wise (possessed) will be born. Maybe that painting is of himself surrounded by the darkness of the Mind Flayer, that's why he is afraid of letting anyone see it
Vecna is certainly one of the better villains we have seen in stranger things and I loved the twist in the last episode showing his origin story.
Its very possible that he is the only villain weve seen so far

The reveal that vecna was 001 and Henry Creel was absolutely insane. My jaw was on the floor when that slug moved across his arm and I saw the number. That final frame changed the way I watched the entire season when I rewatched it w my family.
It was actually really predictable. Great storyline and I'm excited for the end. All praise to the Duffers, but it wasn't really that shocking.

I called out he was Vecna as soon as they transitioned nacy reliving Vecna’s memories to 001 telling a story. As soon as 011 started using her powers on Vecna and a hole in his belly I called out that she was creating the first og portal to the upside down. It was pretty obvious but it was still a twist nonetheless

The creepiest scene of the 4th season was when a mild-mannered harmless-looking 001 turns into a diabolical monster with his sinister dark eyes asking Eleven to join him in destroying the humanity. He actually looked like a demon at that point. Production team really did a convincing job of portraying him as such.
The actor they chose to portray Vecna aka 001 does an incredible performance. I absolutely got Pennywise vibes with the similarities to Skarsgard portrayal of the demonic force in IT. Both have similar facial expressions that can seem innocent yet dark, and when they do expose their characters true nature, absolute evil can be displayed with every facial expression made and the darkness they somehow are able to show through their eyes, absolutely horrifying. Amazing job well done by the extraordinary actor chosen for this 4th season of Stranger Things.

I actually think that Eddie guitar scene is going to be his sacrifice scene. He had a talk with Steve about how he hates himself he always runs away from danger. I think he will stay behind to play Nancys favourite song that Steve will know. I just think that conversation with Steve was too on the nose to not kill him off

I really disliked vecna. I thought it was way too far fetched. I also liked the part in the first season that explains the upside down link with el touching the demigorgon. I find it hard that eleven never mentioned 1 to her friends or that portal.

I kinda knew 001 would be that staff who tries to get close with eleven because throughout their conversations he’s dropping subtle hints that would make u think he’s 001. But boy oh boy when they revealed he’s Creed’s son and Vecna that right there was such an epic plot twist and i really enjoyed it! Jamie Campbell totally nailed it!
I kind of figured that Henry was 001. For the simple fact that Victor explicitly states that he died after falling into a coma, they told a suspected serial killer that his potential victim died so he wouldn't have a reason to escape. I figured that Henry maybe accidentally opened a Gate in the Creel house and Vecna manipulated him into being his avatar, like the Flayer did with Billy. I was not expecting him to actually be Vecna. That hit me way out of left field.
Didn’t this season make hint that the Father of Henry was involved in government experiments? I feel it hints for the origin of his powers. They mirror this moment with Hopper when he blamed himself for his daughter’s cancer due to his time in service.
True, they haven't shed light upon how 001 got his power.

I'm glad you made mention of the spider and Mind Flayer connection. I felt it was subtle but intended to convey that once 001 was in the Upside Down he saw the Mind Flayer as the zenith so to speak. Since he made the spider's being God's of their own worlds/ecosystems. I am also VERY happy that the show has thus far not diminished the Mind Flayer's importance. Though we shall see where things go.
I just personally have a pet peeve where villains or antagonists of immense power are swept under the rug. Hell, even the Demagorgon is still incredibly powerful this far into the show. So, props to the writers and overall production!

I love this season thus far up until the huuuuuuuuge exposition and reveal. Just the way they did it and felt it was everything at once. I love this Villain though. And my other pet peeve was the excessive use of CG. The transformation scene in particular could have been omitted. Instead see El vaporizes 001 and camera cuts out for a long period, maybe hear some screams and upside down ambiance. then you see Vecna open his eyes in the upside down. Shot continues like usual and pans to his wrist to seal the deal. Sometimes it’s better leave some scenes to the imagination.

I found it interesting that they never showed/explained what his mother did that was so terrible. Also, the Mom, out of all doctor's called Brenner, which makes me think she may have known what kind of experiments he was up to. Just guessing tho.
the terrible thing that his mom did was that she somehow knew that all the visions were Henry's doing and she was thinking of sending him to Dr Brenner and getting a psychiatrist. Once Henry discovered that's what she was thinking, he killed her.

Possibly the best season ever! My favorite is episode 4 Dear Billy, was genuinely scared for Max, and the season mid-finale ep 7 was mindblowing and so intense. I love how they created the story that fits so well together and doesn't feel forced at all. Everything makes sense and everything flows so naturally. I also love that this season is much more gruesome.

A little part of me knew that she would have an experience with Vecna in the scene with her mother, but I was nevertheless hoping it would not happen; that, at least, Max could find _some_ comfort in the safety of her mother's arms.
I realized 001 was Vecna when he snapped the guard’s neck. I didn’t think he was anything good at that point….. the way he told the backstory was so haunting and chilling. What a great actor and what an incredible climax to the ending!!!

Jeez! I had no idea Vecna was 001 and Victor's son. And the one whom banished him to the upside-down was Eleven. Now things are making more sense, and it's getting more exciting. Cause it's actually El who can end Vecna and close the Upside-down's gates one and for all. Now that Nancy knows the truth, it's probably her who can help El to do this. Can wait till 1st of Jul to see what will happen. This show is amazing and this season is by far my fav one.

Fr. It was odd to me that they dropped most of the story beats from s2 and went differently in s3 & now 4. Like for example Will having powers to communicate and potentially controlling some of the upside down creatures.
The tentacles that connect to Vecna is the Mind Flayer which is the Upside Down…it was mentioned that all upside down is one big brain…upside down thus mind flayer want to conquer the human realm via portals and vecna wants to continue his “work”…they are using each other in a way…

They actually made a very small hint earlier that Vecna was gonna be one of Brenner's psychic experiments.
Basically, a few episodes earlier, when giving him the nickname, they also classify Vecna as a dark wizard.
They also classified Eleven in their group in earlier seasons as a wizard and/or mage. (So basically they were saying Vecna is just a evil eleven with similar abilities)
Not just similar abilities 11 has the power to do what he can also. He just has darker intentions than 11

I also noticed this season has the Hellfire Club, which is a prominent group on the X-Men comics... and Vecna's father is named Victor Creel, which is very close to Victor Creed, AKA Sabertooth, also from the X-Men universe.

Introducing new antagonists is a very good choice. Mind Flayer is still alive / exists, his newer and newer plans are not effective, so he is forced to summon his more powerful subjects to help.

What i really enjoyed about Vecna was the references hinting back at Freddy Krueger. It really gave this more horror and scary feeling that the show was looking for. I literally just finished the show. I think it’s interesting how in Hoppers prison monologue he talked about curses, war and how his daughters death was because of the chemicals that he was exposed to. At the same time Hawkins was dealing with the Vecna curse, his dad was also in the war, possibly got exposed to chemicals which we know could’ve affected his kin aka Vecna to have his abilities. Idk but either way amazing season can’t wait for July 1st!

Awesome villain, but also awesome writing. I love that the whole crew has come together while apart and they are figuring out how to solve this without solely relying on Eleven to do it all. I LOVE Eleven, but the way they are making each character play an integral role in figuring it out is awesome.
Yea I liked how they even mentioned how easy it was before yet now they really have to work double time. Also the scene where they fight those bats was badass.
Honestly I think he’s the best villain so far and the scariest one yet. Definitely has a swamp thing vibe as well as Freddy looking forward to seeing him more.

1:25 I feel like he accidentally became psychotic because his powers manifested at such a young age, and he had access to too much information. He is "evil" but it almost seems understandable why he'd be so twisted.

3 years of waiting... and they over delivered I loved this, the horror, the charecters, my one negative is that Mike was a bit of a let down, but other than that it's was epic!

1st off, I'm 44... I grew up in the 80s and 90s. So many franchises, movies and shows have tried and failed to capture the essence and culture of the 80s. Stranger Things has managed to do what so many have not. Only The Goldbergs have come close but in more of a "parody" type of way. Stranger Things has nailed the 80s in such a way that I absolutely love. The nostalgia trip that I get from the show is just as powerful as the story... And I can't get enough of it! Season 4 has been a blast to watch. The only complaint I have is how season 4s bad guy managed to remain hidden for 3 seasons. I can tell this guy wasn't thought up until recently. It's easy to see how the higher-ups at Netflix didn't plan for Stranger Things to go the distance. I have to admit though, the writers are doing a good job of weaving this new baddie into the Stranger Things Universe. The idea of 11 having an ex-human turned genius/mind melding monster nemesis with a grudge is pretty darn entertaining and I can't wait to see the endgame! The subplot with Hopper is also incredibly written. I shed my 1st tear watching Stranger Things when Hopper emerged from behind the prison door and fell into into Joyce's arms in what I believe to be one of Stranger Things strongest emotional scenes yet! So YES! Stranger Things: Season 4 is turning out to be my favorite season... So far. Explaining Vecnas absence in the show through the seasons is going to be tricky. I'd rather see the writers try and explain it than not. If it's a "not", then you could almost put Season 4 as a sort of reboot. Complete with orgin and back story (minus a few key details). We'll that's my take on things.

I love Jamie Campbell Bower when he was introduced I was like...ugh watch he's a villain & when he turned out to be I was so excited he plays a great villain
I briefly saw the plot twist when Victor explained his part of the story. He specified that his son fell under a coma but shortly died. I found this sequence odd especially with Vecna's technique of killing for Victor's son was different. I pieced together why Victor also pointed out that his son acted and looked discomfited with the new house.
The sad thing is when the actual reveal came around I completely forgot my theory, but when I realized I was correct during the plot twists it amplified the whole scene's affect on me.
I didn’t thought a lot of 001 as a key character to the plot before but when I saw the acting of Jamie Campbell Bower already from the beginning I felt something very similar to Alex delarge (clockwork orange) a sort of chaotic yet shy and charming evil.
There I understood that 001 might have a key role there. such an amazing acting

The thing about Vecna and this season that's giving me the heebies in a more existential manner, is his operation as this 'dark mirror' reflecting the things that haunt people inside their minds.
Though I'm not religious, I've always been intrigued by the metaphysical constructs of religion.
**TW - Suicide**
Catholicism has long held that suicide is a sin - apparently connected to the sin of despair, that those who 'commit' suicide do so to try and escape their despair, rather than see forgiveness.
I don't hold this view at all (to be clear), but something about it reminds me of other metaphysical stories, based in the Christian good v. evil metaphysics. The movie Jacob's Ladder (1990) has one of my favourite quotes. As Jacob descends into apparent madness, his chiropractor says, "If you're frightened of dying, and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. If you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the Earth."
Reflecting on my own dealings with depression, especially in those moments where everything tumbles, becoming worse and worse, where the 'realisation of truth' that you are correct about all the awful things you say about yourself... it really has felt that the fear in my heart has manifested itself as 'demons' - the sort that tear everything apart by the power of my own fearful thoughts.
"Fear is the mind killer" say the Bene Gesserit in Dune (and that has a whole literary history in itself)
And it's made me wonder about what role this concept plays in the manifestation of evil in the world - of those who do awful, terrible things to others. There are many instances of people describing those who do awful things as seeming to be 'possessed', as if they are taken-hold of by evil, other-worldly forces and those forces animate their evil actions in the world. Perhaps the demons tearing at their life have been externalised, brought to the surface and infliced on others. Pain manifest as evil to others, to 'feed' these demons and allow them to grow.
Vecna and the upside down seem to me to be a manifestation of this. Devils, tearing apart life, brought through to the other side and (especially through Vecna), to hold the 'dark mirror' to others and allow that pain and suffering to be constructed into a whole, evil world, seeking to snuff out the life of the right way up.
I don't mean offense to anyone who has their own issues they're dealing with. It's hard and life throws many awful things at people. If anyone reading this feels like this resonates in a dark way, please seek help - seek those 'angels' (non-religion / non-denominational / you decide what you like) to set you free. Don't let the upside down take pain and fear to build its evil mirror.
This season has been bloody fantastic and looking forward to its finale.

Maybe it's because he spent a good part of his life with his powers inhibited and then sent to the upside down and we have no indication to assume that the upside down improves their powers so maybe he's not at his true full capacity. hell maybe the mindflayer subdues him as well. if El can pose a threat to the mindflayer avatar on earth as well as stop the massive portal and the tentacles coming from there of the actual flayer it stands to reason the flayer would want to not have the fully powered vecna going around just in case

So what was his motivation before that? Did he really just want to help El out, did he want her to become what he couldn’t because of the chip? El could have just left him and wished him luck. I hope we get more backstory in episodes 8 and 9!

I think Vecna is the most frightening villain they have had yet. This has been my favorite season of the series so far. The production value and storytelling have definitely matured as the show has. I think the poster that Will was painting in the opening to the first episode will play heavily into what is to come. Not necessarily in this season but possibly for the series finale. Like you said, his art has shown his connection to the Upside Down. This was further emphasized by the fact that it is a replica of Hawkins on the day Will entered. With everything dealing so heavily with psychic phenomena, I wouldn’t be surprised if the kids have been somehow influencing what has emerged from the Upside Down. We shall see…🤔

The face that he eventually got casted out into the upside found thru a portal and becoming Vecna I guess he really became what he engaged beyond what humans can do ans go and are capable of! Season 4 has definitely been Stranger Things version of “ Infinity War” You have three different groups facing an obstacle that all centers to the main villain . At the end of season 3 I remember saying to myself that no matter what happens in season 4 they need to lose in the next season which I still think is gonna happen in the final 2 episodes. Vecna is way too op for everyone to just come together last sec and defeat him . There’re spread out way too far this time . It’s gonna be a brutal defeat. Excellent villain this season. Wow! 001 becoming Vecna was fucking crazy. I really thought S4 wouldn’t be that good..but honestly I thought it was the best season since S1. One thing I maybe missed if someone could explain: Why did 001(Vecna) kill his family in the 50s and then randomly come back in the 80s to continue his rampage? Not sure if I missed something or if this question I’m asking may be answered in S4 part 2

They explain this using the Brite Lite. They couldn't see the Brite Lite unless it was on, but once they knew it was there they were able to use it to write messages
You can hear echos of what people are saying. I’m season one Joyce says ‘talk to me baby’ and the alphabet is 26 letters which corresponds to the gold dust on the wall. It’s more logical and if will is as nerdy/smart as they say I think he’d have figured it out

I think that when 001/Vecna was sent into the upside down, he began to morph it into Hawkins where he lived, and made creatures of his 'image' in there to, and when Will was taken to the upside down, it was because Vecna was still making the upside down, with the Demogorgan as his way of seeing Hawkins, and came across will and took him, then learning that 11 escaped to then kill Barb to grow stronger and find where 11 was, because she betrayed him, and when she sent the Demogorgan back into the upside down, he felt like he wasn't strong enough, and began to make more creatures that would be used in Russia to kill the men and grow stronger, then the mind flayer which he felt passionate about because of the Black Widow's, he began to help it grow into the real world, harming people which made him able to use his powers in this season. Sorry for this essay, i'm just a big nerd, and I love making theories on films, tv shows games etc.
Dustin already slept this theory he said vecnas a five star general of the mind flayer. The mind flayer is the “king” of the upside down and Eleven only opened a gate to the upside down. It was already in the shape of Hawkins

The whole theory that Vecna is the creature creator of Upside Down, including the Mind Flayer, doesn't make much sense. A newly arrived Vecna would create what is the most powerful creature in the series? And then his creation would carry out a plan to take power over the normal world? Nonsense.

@Alex Andrews exactly like i went back to season 1 after watching part 1 of 4 and it makes no sense whatsoever... When one goes through the portal it is the upside down i guess but it doesn't resemble hawkins at all
She also says they are in the past the day the portal opened and will disappeared yet watching season one... The portal she opened that day is not the same as the one she sent one through these have to be two different events... She must have sent one through a tear in time and space... And then they started experimenting on that...
If they are saying that her sending one into the upside down and releasing the demogorgan are the same event... It only makes sense if one was broken into a non corporeal form a purely psychic being and that the demogorgan and the mind flayer are just manifestations of his mind but him not having a form he could not physically leave the upside down because he doesnt have a body... In that case it makes sense if the demogorgan is just a form he possessed but the motivations dont line up... The demogorgan doesn't seem to have a focus on 11... Unless 1 is playing chess an these have all been attempts to come back into the real world using the demogorgan possessing will as the mind flayer... Which would make sense if he needed to reform his physical body doesnt make sense for him to have the same burnt up body as before unless that body has just become mobile again or hes just regained control of it... If all of these things are completely separate then it really doesn't make sense because where has one been for all these years... Unless hes just figuring out that this psychic connection can weaken the boundry but it needs to be broken from the otherside then it would make sense why he allowed nancy and them to enter and then forced them to exit else where because them physically breaking the barrier unlocks the gates.... But it honestly doesn't make sense unless all of this from season one has been one and 11 just had a mental block about 1 which is still confusing unless while possessing the demogorgan he couldn't use psychic ablities or was too weak....
Also if he killed all the other students how do we explain the escaped kids in season 2 that were also experimented on? The time line is getting really confusing....
If one is not the one behind everything and the mind flayer and demogorgan have always been in the upside down and that wasnt created by the psychic connection between one and 11 and she just sent 11 there why does the place one goes two resemble nothing like the upside-down....

These events clearly have to be separated by some time because she couldn't have escaped right after sending one through
And the scientist clearly have an understanding at this point that one is in the upside-down which is why they are gearing up 11....
It really only makes sense in my mind if this mirror dimension was created in the second opening of the portal.... Prior to that a higher dimension did exsist.... But it was not the upside-down yet... The upside down was created when the reopened the gate tethering that higher dimension to hawkins at that point..... The higher dimension has no physical representation until it was observed and then also able to observe and made aware of hawkins at which point it took on the form of Hawkins to create physical access points.... Something it never needed as a purely energetic state of being.... It would also mean time works different in the upside-down and that what was years in the real world may have been a very long time in the upside-down and yet no time at all....
If the mind flayer and one are not connected and one didnt create the mind flayer i cant wrap my mind around how any of this conceivably makes any rational sense

I really liked Vecna! It was nice to finally get a villain that both felt like an actual threat and was legitimately scary. He looked like Swamp Thing to me and the nods to elm street were awesome.

Vecna’s backstory is one of the best things about this season. I got turned off by season 3 so I kinda decided to ignore the 4th one but after watching a video about season 4 (only first 5 mins of said video’) I decided to watch it. Deadass rn this is one of the best things I watched in these 2 years

I’ve actually got a slightly out there prediction that Vecna actually doesn’t work for The Mind Flayer because he’s captured by the Russians as shown in the Vol 2 trailer. I think Hopper will release it to escape the Russian prison which shows a little scene at Murray smiling at flames which I think will be the mind flayer destroying the prison.
I think this will lead to the scene where Vecnas about to kill 11 but The Mind Flayer will be the deciding factor and destroy 1 to retain power of his under world. Kind of like the T Rex killing the Raptors in Jurassic Park

Apparently they've had a lot of the basics since it was created. Like you can hear the clock ringing throughout the first three seasons when the Upside Down is involved. Even Eleven vs 001 was planned from the very beginning.
Theory: The mind flayer is using 001's powers as it wanted to with 011's, though only at this season was he powerful enough to start opening gates again, as 011 as we absolutely evaporated his physical form, so is it possible the upside down we see at the end that looks different is just the 'psychic' or dream like upside down inside of 001's mind as he's being evaporated into the gate. This could be when the mind flayer invaded his mind to his own hive, would also explain the differences in looksof the upside down and maybe some of the timey wimey shenanigans
I think the big thing we’re all forgetting is that above Vecna is the Big Bad, The Mind Flare ??(is that what we call him?) and after defeating Vecna the stage would be set for an actual film length movie of maybe 3 hours or so where everyone all together (so to speak) fights him to save humanity. After all the back and forth with the upside down I’d bet some of the kids will actually have powers like Eleven. Who knows?? But this was awesome to see if you really do a great job of breaking these things down. I loved the series. A little too long in spots to be honest but overall really really good. In particular the cinematography!! Wow those scenes where the kids were riding the bikes in the upside down and then to the others in the real Hawkins was incredible

Love this series. I was their age in the years this show is set and it nails the 80s. Great references to horror movies especially A Nightmare on Elm Street. It's kind of corny now but back then that was a terrifying movie.
I think the villian is a interesting parallel to both Eleven and Krueger since in terms of Krueger he's a madman who wants to slaughter all life around him but like Eleven was misunderstood and mistreated becoming a monster
also there are theorys going around that vecna is elevens father and the funny thing is in one of the nightmare on elm streets movies its revealed freddy Krueger does have a daughter.

Maybe the test subjects of that universe connected their minds to the like of the mind flayer, and revealed their position to them. So if he made the monsters or became part of it doesn't matter because every victim since season 1 was for his binding. I guess he was weak in season 1 and could just control one demogorgon and the way he used to put his victims is exactly like Vecna, Season 2 he could use the mind flyer and all other demo but dart showed an individuality, Season 3 was full him using the mind flyer the way billy talks to eleven is exactly like Vecna's in season but he uses WE(in the context because of mind flyer intentions too).

In the first season of stranger things, we see 11 open a portal after her encounter with the demogorgan but in this season we see her open a portal to send vecna into the upside down, which are in different locations in Hawkins lab. Are there two different portals in Hawkins lab? Just a little confused on the timeline
@@yesimarangel no, it's not a plot hole. She is about 8 years old when she sends Peter/001 into the Upside down (basically creating it). That's in 1979. Then the gate closes behind him. You can even see it in the very first scene, when Brenner asks "What have you done?" There is a small, but closed gate in the background when they show Eleven. Then she continues to live at the lab alone and having lessons with Brenner. Apparently due to the trauma, she forgets the events with Peter. A few years later, in 1983, she opens another gate by mistake - what we saw in season 1. During this time, the Upside down had spread to be a copy of Hawkins. Probably afraid of what she did and of the Demogorgon, Eleven escapes through the way that 001 showed her. (so she actually didn't forget everything, it was just buried deep down and she must have found the way by instinct)
The message of overcoming trauma or not and about the world.. definitely HIT
How does Kali fit into all of this? How and when did she escape?

The way he talked about 001 and just his presence made me think he was Vecna. My girlfriend thought he was 1 for sure but not Vecna. I was pretty proud of my guess lol. Either way the reveal of how he became Vecna was incredible!
Let be honest, El is probably Vecna's daughter. She has a mom but they never revealed her father and all the kids get their power from Vecna's genes

Vecna is such a great villain ! If not one the best of all TV shows, I can compare him to the Night King from GoT... I kinda don"t want him to die and see more of him.

Unreal twist at the end. Imo they nailed this season I can't wait for the second part!!!
The First Shadow stageplay suggests that the source of Henry's powers was when his family first moved to the Creel House, & he found himself in an alternate dimension for 10 hours before returning with powers, believed to come from the mindflayer.
This suggests that Vecna wasn't inherently evil, & that his relationship with Pattie Newby & the saving of her father from the mindflayer shows that the mindflayer is the actual big villain!
Unlike Will, who had the love of his mom Joyce & friends like Mike who saved him from being totally inhabited by the mindflayer in S2, Henry allowed the mindflayer to inhibit him which lead to him murder his mom & young sister, whom when he read their minds, he learned that they rejected him & wanted to send him to Hawkins Lab forever!
I think this explains the Will & Vecna parallel, & possibly Will's S5 story arc where after being rejected by Mike, allows the mindflayer to inhibit him taking advantage of his emotional state, & he turns villain & betrays Eleven....but finds a way to redeem himself right at the very end!
This season was so good! Can’t wait for volume 2.
Its remarkable that a show can make so many respectful nods and truly be its own thing.
It's really refreshing to finally see a human villain in Stranger Things rather than the mind flayer who became a bit mundane after season 2. Vecna definitely fits in the timeline and serves as deeply personal antagonist to Eleven. Can't wait for the final two episodes and that oh so sweet final battle
Mind flayer is also humanoid he spoke in season 3 and is making pretty clear that vecna and him are probably the same entity
@@nerevarchthn6860 I thought the mind flayed was the god of the upside down and had lived for much longer in the upside down than Vecna. I think Vecna previously either worshipped or worked with the Mind Flayer. But I see your point about it speaking, Vecna just seems more intriguing as a villain than just a plain giant monster
