It's not a figment of your imagination, the Japanese module of this Casio use to have more of a blue hue of Electroluminescent Ligh. When I was a kid, I use to have a watch with the same module of this Dw290, mother bought it for me in USA and the same model sold in my country had an El backlight color more like in the green hue (God, How I miss that watch 😢). I bought in Amazon this dw290 because it's kind of the same module "lineage" and because my old watch has been discontinued since the 1990's. Thank you for the video.
Thank you Jorge for this comment! More and more a recurring leitmotif of this channel is how watches are links to memories, and how we use them to “go back in time” and re-live for an instant a moment in the past. Thanks for watching!!!
My 2022 iteration arrived this morning. At 57 it's definitely a nostalgic feeling with this model, as is often the case with Casio. It will now share wrist time with my beloved DW291. Especially once I've replaced the strap with a better one.
Ah, nostalgia is one of Casio's superpowers! I like the DW-291, but, unfortunately I have too small of a wrist to wear it... Enjoy both watches and thanks for this comment!!!
Funny, just got a brand new DW291 (red dial surround) and bought a used 290 last night. They put a W86-1V strap on it and it looks pretty cool. Paid $25 for the 290.
Oh, yeah, patina on a well cared for object is something that I love too. It gives it a unique character. The Japanese define this concept, if I'm not mistaken, as wabi-sabi. Thanks for this comment!!!
I believe this model was subject to some resistance from people simply because of the style, I personally like it and would be happy to have it in my collection, I think the shape is unusual and of course anything from Casio is definantly going to tickle my fancy. Having grown up in the 70s & 80s I have a soft spot for any Casio watches, a very nice review thanks for the upload 🙏
I agree that it's a "love it or hate it" watch, mainly because of the shape and style. And, of course, I LIKE it! Plus one for the soft spot for Casios, because of the nostalgia factor. Thanks for this comment!
Thank you for this beautiful comment! And how lucky we are to live in an era where Google Translate is available (I don't speak or write Russian, unfortunately). I like the fact that Casio watches, even after decades, will tell you the time if you just put a new battery on. And the change in colour of the display, retro illumination and writings on the case-dial add to the charm of a vintage object (a concept the Japanese call wabi-sabi). As for the strap, I like the original one, but I can see why you would like to change it with another by Casio. Let me know if you manage to find a suitable new strap! I think the nostalgia factor is one of the main reasons that make us love this brand so much. I'll make soon a video about this (featuring the Casio dw-5750). Thanks for this comment! 4:05 I see the early Japan version uses a 1219 Module , the 2013 version uses a 1189 Module and the new one uses a 3231 Module. I own a Made In Thailand version with the 1189 Module and it says DW-290-T , maybe the T stands for Thailand , I don't know. Even though the face of the watches all appear to look the same , the module differences usually has something to do with the date calander. Mine with the 1189 only goes to calander year 2039. The new one (3231)probably goes to 2099 and the older one (1219) I think may only go to 2019. Also Casio stopped putting JAPAN on the face of the watch years ago as many of there watches were being made in other countries other then Japan. Some older Casio watches will have a letter at the bottom of the watch as the 1219 and 1189 modules do , but they stopped doing that as well as you can see the 3231 module does not have that letter under the word Luminescent.
Whoa! Thanks for the precious information! Yes, I can confirm that the new one goes to 2099, I think that the 1189 goes to 2029. I wish I could answer to this question... The DW's with the faded lettering that you see in the video were bought both used, so I got them already black and half-polished by the passing of time. As to a way of protecting the green letters (how I feel you: I thought about it a lot!) I'm not really sure and I haven't found much information about it. I feel like the displays are a crap shoot and u never know how it's gonna go. I collect vintage casio's and I'm lucky enough to have known about this before purchasing. I think there are videos on here that describe how to fix them, but even as someone who breaks these things down to a bare case and reassemble I personally wouldn't try it with a watch u care about. Your best bet might be to sacrifice a newer one for it's display if u wanna keep the rest of it's vintage appeal. U can even get a replacement vintage casings with bezel
Thanks for this comment! And what a coincidence: at this very moment I'm editing a video in which I have tried to restore/ revive the display on the older, Japanese made DW-290. It was a partial success, and I plan to redo the "operation" with better material. I was really afraid to ruin the "vintage" piece, but in the end I didn't do any harm. The video will be out next week, so you'll be able to see the (slightly messy) job I did. Thanks for watching!

@@bullfrogboss8008I’ve had mine almost 2 months, I just won’t get it wet and don’t touch the face too much and it looks brand new
I feel like the displays are a crap shoot and u never know how it's gonna go.
I thought I had 2 comments on here, did u erase one?
@@TechTokOffical no, i didn’t… I wonder why it’s not there.
It happened to me once with a comment I made on another video.
Maybe there was a link? Or a dot followed by a word that could resemble a dot com or website extension? Or a misspelled word that could look like something TH-cam would block?
Thanks for commenting anyway!
best watch!
Oh, it sure is one of my favourites!
