You should play the Scott Pilgrim game for your gaming channel! It's an arcade fighter a la Double Dragon and has an unbelievably amazing soundtrack of its own!
@@montaigo13 *Internet points for using **_"a la"_** in a comment.*
just me or did this movie age poorly? no way a modern movie could have some of these topics lol
He defeats Captain America, Captain Marvel and Superman. Not too shabby!
He defeated Captain America, Superman, and he used to fornicate romantically with Captain Marvel, and ends up dating Huntress.
And he is Lego Robin who fought for Huntress
The comment I've been looking for.
The Spot is the main boss
Don't forget The Spot
Fun Fact: Brie played 22 as Envy but when they filmed she was actually 20
The Nega Scott fight is so easy because Nega Scott is actually "a really nice guy" because he's the Opposite of Real Scott who is really a bit of a Bickhead.
Good catch! Can’t believe I didn’t piece that together sooner.
It's funny that you said Brandon Routh reminds you of Homelander, since he played Superman in Superman Returns.
He also played Superman on The Flash/Legends of Tomorrow.
@@DaviniaHill I think he played someone else in those shows, too...
@@DaviniaHillhe played The Atom.
@@RoGueNavy And reprised his Superman role but as Kingdom Come Superman during the Crisis crossover
An obscure reference in 2024.
They wanted to keep the movie PG-13 so teens could go see it but Aubrey Plaza couldn't say her lines without cursing so they told her to just go for it and added the censorship as part of the plot.
This movie is one of my comfort movies. Never ever ever gets old.
Mary: "The girl's about to come."
Little did she know.
I love how Scott solved things with his evil clone by just talking things out
Cause the “evil Scott” is normal Scott. The comics showed more on that
Because the negative of zero is zero I think
you shouldn't. The movie chose to ignore the entire point of nega scott.
If Nega Scott is a "really nice guy", what do you think that makes normal Scott?
He should have said, "He's a little negative sometimes, but he's a really nice guy"
Edgar Wright wrote, directed and edited this movie. He is a genius. Other movies of his to check out are Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's End (collectively the "Cornetto Trilogy"), Baby Driver and Last Night in Soho.
I love all his movies!!!
Well she’s already watched and reacted to Shaun of the Dead, so she’s already off to a great start so far!
Baby Driver❤️❤️❤️
When Scott leapt through the window, I fell out of my chair laughing and writhed on the floor gasping for oxygen. And later that day, I was still trying to contain laughter during driver's ed class.
That gets me evey single time as well hahahahha
Well I laughed about this yesterday and I saw the joke seven years ago.
I think the thing that works with that gag isn't so much.Michael Sarah diving out of the window. But it's how straightfaced Culkin is When he delivers the lines
This is definitely a legitimately fun movie. It has great celebrities, funny moments, and a great concept of fighting 7 evil exes to be with the one you love.
Fun fact: Ellen Wong was 25 when filming that scene. She plays a great 17-year-old!
Huh. I never doubted her as an adolescent.
Yep she was actually the oldest of the cast at the time
@@hellomark1 I mean she still is....right? That's how ages work 😂

Scott pilgrim has three dominant character traits: narcissism, neuroticism, and surprisingly good hand to hand combat skills. Those three things are basically his entire personality, and his story is basically the journey of him becoming a normal human being. It started as a manga/comic book series which is excellent, but they did a great job adapting it to the screen.
The song that Clash at Demonhead played was done by a band called Metric. Highly recommend them!
"WE ARE SEX BOB-OMB AND WE'RE HERE TO WATCH SCOTT PILGRIM KICK YOUR TEETH IN! ONE TWO THREE FOUR!" is hands down one of my favorite lines from any movie...also, Wallace is the best character in the entire movie...
You’ve come a long way.

Fun fact,
There is in fact an 8 bit retro side scroller game for Scott pilgrim. and it is very good!
definitley isnt 8 bit but yes it is a retro side scroller
It's really good on the switch

You're right, 16 or 32 bit.
Ramona's ex-girlfriend, played by Mae Whitman, had previously worked with Michael Cera on the show Arrested Development, where she played his girlfriend temporarily. That show is one of my favorite shows of all time. It's not for everyone, but the writing is very good and cast is stacked, and it's narrated by Ron Howard, and he is also one of the executive producers.

Gideon actor, Jason Schwartzman, also does a lot of great voice work. He was "The Spot" in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the lead in Klaus, and he's always in Wes Anderson movies, including Isle of Dogs and The Fantastic Mr. Fox.
He did a great job in Rushmore too.
Great actor. He was also the drummer for Phantom Planet in the early 2000’s.
Fun fact: the package scene wasn't CGI! The director actually had him throw it into the trash can. If you track down the outtakes, it shows you how many times it took him to get it in there.

My favourite description of this movie is: think of it like a musical, except with video games instead
Not to be that guy, but 16 is the age of consent in Canada. The point is Scott dating Knives is immature, not so much illegal. And yes, Michael Cera did his fight scenes and they all played their own instruments and sang.
But you are that guy (creep) guy
@@gorgejung307he said scott was being immature and just stated a point of Canadian law, I don't see how he was trying to justify anything
As a guideline, not a law, the older person's age divided by 2 then add 7 is good. 22/2 + 7 = 18 so Knives was still a year young by that method, although Scott did keep the relationship PG.
@@josephwallace202 it was more a comment on his opening line. I obviously don’t know the fuckin guy to confirm if he’s a creep or not. I can confirm yous a baby.
@@flinx do all you people not realize this is a movie?
19:42 They did make a real game! It's called (sensibly enough) "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game", it's exactly the retro beat-'em-up that you would imagine, it's quite good, and it's available on all platforms!
32:31 😮 Give your editor a raise!
it was so clean i almost didn't notice it
That was EPIC! 🔥🔥🔥
I had to back that up too. It was so well done.
Regarding the song "Black Sheep" that The Clash at Demonhead play in their scene: they commissioned the Canadian band Metric to write and play that song, and then Brie Larson sang it in the film. The soundtrack has the original band's version on it. It's an amazing soundtrack and I have my home Echo devices set up to play it whenever I say "Alexa, we need to play now and loud!"
Yo that Alexa thing was funny as hell 😭
An absolutely brilliantly-executed movie. With a different group of people, it would have been in the five-dollar bin at gas stations within six months.
But with Edgar Wright at the helm, and an amazing cast top-to-bottom, this one is an Instant Classic.
Also, I'm not sure that anyone has ever been more gorgeous than Mary Elizabeth Winstead, then or now. 😍
She launched an entire look by herself!
Scott’s roommate is played by McCauley Culkin’s brother. Mae Whitman plays the Bi-furious X. She played the President’s daughter in Independence Day.
Mae Whitman was also Michael Cera's girlfriend in Arrested Development
Also, Kieren Culkin has oddly went on to have a better career than Macaulay
@@PosirepBut he hasn't appeared on the RedLetterMedia youtube channel a single time, while Macaulay practically lives there, so who's the real success story? 😄
She’s also the voice of Katara in ATLA!
"Freeze! Vegan police!!!"

Ramona is played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead who plays Hera in Ahsoka.
Also in 10 Cloverfield Lane, Sky High, Final Destination 3, and Harley Quinn & Birds of Prey.
Yeah she said that at the end.
don't forget Kate. probably my favorite movie from her. and that Will Smith movie with him facing himself.
Yeah she's been in a few things.
I actually love her in Sky High, one of my favorites
I’ll never get tired of this movie! The romance, action, and comedy are what make this a masterpiece. The fact that the whole film was a video game of life is what really got me the most.
You’ve come a long way.

I like this movie because it does a great job of developing the character of Scott pilgrim and allowing him to learn from his early mistakes and grow into a better person.
There's a cartoon version that came out last year on Netflix. The entire cast from the movie reprised their voices, but it's a take closer to the original comics and is so much more.
It's wildly different from the comics in all but art style. It's a new/alt story.
Summary of this movie:
Michael Cera wants to date Ewan McGregor's wife so he fights an Indian goth kid, punk Steve Rodgers, Superman, Katara if she was white and lesbian, 2 japanese guys that do nothing because their actors didnt speak English, and the Spot from spiderverse.
What Mary said about not being able to appreciate it when she first watched it compared to now is exactly what a lot of people have when it comes to things like _Breaking Bad_ & _Community._ Love when people discover phenomenal stuff 🫶🏾🙏🏾

20:09 - that line actually comes from an encounter Edgar Wright had with Howlin' Pelle Almqvist, singer of the Hives, backstage - much more in character and less douchey when he said it, tbf, given his onstage persona.
What's that you say? Superman gives Homelander vibes? Yep!
YESSSS IM SO HAPPY U WATCHED THIS.
Raise your hand if you wanted to tell Mary that “He Played Superman!” When she said that “Todd” was giving out “Homelander Vibes”.
Fun Fact: The movie was being written as volumes were being added to the series. So Wright would get advance versions or advanced synopsis of where the story in the new novels would go. But then O’Malley might change his mind or develop it one way and Wright had already liked or it fit the script better a different way. That’s why it’s pretty loyal at the beginning of the movie but then less loyal by the end.

I can’t believe my first time seeing Mary Elizabeth winstead is final destination 3 and I’m still in love with her
Yes, she’s in Asohka. She plays Hera Syndulla, the green skinned twi-lek.
A fun fact, Edgar Wright, who directed this movie is a producer with the original Writer of the manga scott lee O'Malley on The anime series done for netflix. Edgar emailed all of the stars who worked on the film, Not expecting any of them to want to come back as some of them have become rather big stars since 2010 when this movie was released. Loved the graphic novels and this totally lived up to that source material. There's a fun behind the scenes feature where it shows that most of the cast who are in fight scenes actually did wire training and fight choreography so they could do as much of the action as they could.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead DID play in Ahsoka. And interestingly, she's married to Ewan McGregor, who plays Obi-Wan Kenobi. His daughter appeared in an episode of the "Obi-Wan Kenobi" series, and his uncle played Republic X-Wing pilot, Wedge Antilles, in the prequels and in the last sequel.

Absolutley love this movie. One of my all time favorites. For the record there is actually a alternate ending which I sorta prefer. This is based off a series of comics, and when the movie was being made the final volume wasnt out yet. So the movie team came up with their own ending and in it Scott gets back with Knives because they are actually sorta a better match in the movie. However they eventually changed the ending to the one we see now because Scott and Ramona staying together was closer to the comic ending.

I think I saw this movie around when it came out either ‘10 or ‘11, I was around 14-15 at the time and I was gasping for air from crying laughing so hard, the jump shots and editing was like a whiplash and it just imploded in my brain. I had seen Hot Fuzz earlier when it came our and I definitely didn’t appreciate that enough when I saw it but Edgar Wright quickly became one of my fav directors of all time after seeing Scott, followed by rewatching the cornetto trilogy after World’s End came out.
When I went to see this movie, I had heard of the character and the overall evil exes premise, but knew little else in regards to what a live action film would intel. Never read the graphic novels, so can't compare, but on its own, this was movie magic, as I loved it from start to finish. And due to how "out there" it was most of the time, I'll assume it matched the written/drawn works rather well. All the gaming references just put it over the top for me, a truly one of a kind film that we should all feel lucky was ever made as it was.
My understanding is that him literally battling Ramona’s exes is a metaphor for him battling his own insecurity’s with who Ramona has dated in the past and how they compare/contrast to him, along with his trauma of being left by Envy so suddenly. That’s my own head canon, but I think it tracks. The only way Scott can be with her is to deal with the baggage of her past and heal from his trauma in the process.
The guy who played Crash from Crash and The Boys also played Colm Feore’s son in the Bon Cop Bad Cop movies.
