Kim is frequently Scott's litmus test, as the person there most hurt by him, who has known him the longest. You can't really talk about who Scott really is, and his worst aspects, without talking about her. And how he interacts with her because of his growing, or in due part to. So here's the thing, Scott and Ramona are both terrible people. They could get better, but as they are, they are not good. In that sense, they completely deserve each other, because they hurt other people, but they honestly help each other not be awful. Knives was just too good for Scott. I'm glad she told him to go after Ramona.
I love how much you're enjoying this movie. The thing about Scott is, he's not supposed to be likable at the beginning. He "levels up" in terms of maturity as the movie progresses. As Ramona says, we all have baggage, and Scott's real mission throughout the movie is to become the kind of person we might actually like at the end. The original ending had him getting back together with Knives, but I think that would have been terrible. He and Ramona having another try now that they've dealt with their baggage is a much better ending. It doesn't say they end up happily ever after, just that they give it another try. (A lot of these themes are a lot more evident in the graphic novels.)

There is an alternative ending that can be seen. Scott leaves with Knyves. Thank you so much for this. Your reaction throughout to one of my top 10 feel good movies, was gold. You really brightened up this old mans day!
Yeah, Edgar Wright is amazing. He is an expert on using visual cues to tell a story and evoke the emotion that is so hard to tell in a cinematic setting. You need to watch this movie a second time, once you know the story , it is easier to see things that are easily overlooked. For instance, Ramona's disdain for musicians when Scott says he is in a band. The movie has zero filler and every scene was done to perfection.
5:04 Scott Pilgrim was named after a song by a band of teenage Canadian girls called Plumtree in 1997. His name isn’t said in the song’s lyrics-it came from the band confusing the names of two of their friends, Scott Ingram and Philip Pilgrim. That’s why Scott’s wearing a Plumtree shirt at the Rockit. Stephen Stills and Young Neil are named after one half of the band Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Kim Pine was created by Bryan Lee O’Malley (the comic’s author) in high school, and was first envisioned to be a X-man ripoff who could grow quills like a porcupine. He gave up the concept, but he liked her name. X,p The idea for the storyline came from Bryan’s then-girlfriend telling him about several exes she had named Matthew, and Bryan wondering what if they formed some kind of union. He even planned to name Lucas “Matthew” as well, but decided one was enough in that case. He and that girlfriend were married for a decade, but then divorced. I hope he’s moved on alright. Ramona Flowers *might* be named after the song that plays in her intro in the movie, “I heard Ramona Sing” by Frank Black, or possibly after “To Ramona” by Bob Dylan. Or maybe she just looked like a Ramona. ;3
This is my favorite reaction to this movie because you actually understood the references! Thanks for an entertaining reaction! You should check out the Scott Pilgrim cartoon next!

Fun fact: the original ending had Scott and Knives get back together in the end scene, but it didn’t test well so they reshot the ending.
I got a free movie screening pass at work for this movie. I had no idea what it was, but a friend and I were bored so we went. Once the comic book style and nerd references starting popping up, I was so excited, but then when the first evil ex fight happens, my brain was just melting from the overload of craziness. I've never been so pleasantly surprised by a movie before! I'm glad you liked it and you're definitely not the only one who slept on it!
Fun fact there is a lot of numbers in this. Lucas uses doubles, punches Scott twice and says things twice. Todd has 3 different letters, 3 person band, 3 strikes, throws Scott through 3 walls, Roxy 4 letter name, her kick is a 4. Gideon G is the 7th letter, 7 years.
This is one of my all time favorite movies. It is so creative. It's a shame it wasn't a bigger hit in theatres but it gained quite a cult following since then, and rightly so.

Such a fun reaction to watch. Thanks. This is one of the few movies I've watched more than once during its release and the cinema was almost empty both times.
the big thing with this story is that Scott and Ramona both deal with their own crap. The manga reveals a lot about Scott, but scraps of it still survive here. Ramona makes tiny confessions throughout this. She's at the tail end of her growth, having dealt with the folly of all her ex-relationships except Gideon, albeit still with some flaws. She tells Scott how she wants to change now. But Scott is pretty oblivious at the outset, he starts to recognize his faults throughout and at the end. That's why he wants to try again, because he thinks they can make it work this time.
The guy who wrote/drew the comix also worked on the project, and the the artwork for Ramone BF stories. Edgar Wright, from the Cornetto trilogy, worked on this. Fun fact - the movie WAS filmed in Toronto. The winter scenes were in the summer.. so fake snow 😉
The whole scene with Chris Evens is filmed at Castle Llantro in Toronto. This location was used as the Charles Xavior School in the Fox X-Men movies, as well as the Deadpool movies,
I'd argue it gets the energy correct but messes up a lot of the point of the story due to the need to cram everything into 2 hours. The movie does a pretty bad job at interrogating how crappy both Scott and Ramona treat their exes (plus how creepy Scott 'dating' Knives at the start is) because a lot of that content happens in the books between the big Evil Ex showdowns so is dropped because it's not 'plot'.
Michael Cera originally did stay with Knives, but a test audience didn't like he just spent whole movie fighting for nothing so they reshot the ending so they got together
I've seen probably every reaction to this, and you're the only reactor who caught that Ramona was being controlled before that's revealed. Fun fact: the band is actually playing. Michael Cera knew how to play bass, but the others didn't know their instruments....so in addition to the acting, they also had to become decent enough musicians to be convincing, and do so very quickly (they only had a few weeks).
I discovered this flick in probably 2018/2019. It’s insane how many of these actors went on to be in Marvel/DC projects. Minus Thomas Jane of course, who had already been in one. It’s easily in the conversation for a top 10 list for me.
@@Bar-Lord I was being facetious since it seems like every single recognizable actor has taken a turn in a superhero or comic book film. And, of course, this film itself was a graphic novel.
@@t0dd000I figured maybe there was that angle to it, but couldn’t tell so I took it straight. That said, there’s some merit to that statement as many who work in the industry say: there’s always a shortlist of around 20 or so people studios want for any given role, and if you can’t deliver on some of it, good luck getting a green light or the gig.
FUN FACT: The cast and crew all had such an absolute blast making this movie that they never dismantled the cast and crew email that they created. This was the best birthday present I've ever gotten. Came out the day before my birthday. I listened to the cover of Black Sheep every day for months after it came out.
I love this womans flexible Age of Consent idealogy.. shes cool with Knives and Scott, but also okay with Predator Matthew McConaughey in Dazed and Confused, "i keep getting older.. they stay the same age.." ..and she goes, "naw, its fine because hes cute!" ..at least she honest.. 😉
27:34 That is Christopher Lambert. lol He DID play Raiden in the 90's 'Mortal Kombat' movie. You totally called it. I barely caught it. Well done.
That’s actually Thomas Jane, not Chris Lambert.
I love at the end that nega Scott (Negative or opposite Scott) was actually a nice guy because Scott is not a nice guy.
Him becoming friends with Nega Scott is Scott accepting himself. A literal personification of him gaining self-respect.
The scene where Scott Pilgrim throws the package behind him is took them over 30 takes to do
Wow!!!
32:00 An idiom for jealousy is "the green-eyed monster", which Scott summons when he sees Ramona with Gideon.
Damn! I never made that connection before! Thanks for the fun fact!
A Zinedine Zidane reference?? Good lord! 🤌🏻🤌🏻
Hands down one of my favorite movies of all time ever.
Making joke that she look like Aubrey Plaza was the best part 😆
😂😂😂😂
The cast for this movie is great,...and these people by and large really weren't well known when this came out.
Glad you loved it. It is one of my all time favorites.
0:01 No, this is THE movie about gamers :)
YES
The whole scene with Chris Evens is filmed at Castle Llantro in Toronto. This location was used as the Charles Xavior School in the Fox X-Men movies, as well as the Deadpool movies,
Jason schwarzman has a cool band too. He came out for a song at a Phoenix concert at the Fonda in 2018 😁 good times
9:00 The writer of the original GN is Canadian, not the filmmakers, besides Michael Cera and Allison Pill (Kim). It was filmed in Toronto though.
Cool!
Thank you for making this react so much fun. I loved watching you enjoy and laugh through out the movie
I also felt like they shouldn't have got back together at the end. It just feels better.
oh yeah, one of the few damn near perfect translations of a source comic. def in the top 5 all time.
Wow!
@@gaz-l621 mean more visually, kinda like sin city nailed the look.
Michael Cera originally did stay with Knives, but a test audience didn't like he just spent whole movie fighting for nothing so they reshot the ending so they got together
Not even close in the comic tho
I’d love it if you could watch and talk about “A Bronx Tale” that is my favorite movie!! I think you’d highly enjoy it!
Super fun reaction to this ... super fun movie with it's .... er... super fun edits.... and super fun motion graphics. Thanks.
I discovered this flick in probably 2018/2019. It’s insane how many of these actors went on to be in Marvel/DC projects. Minus Thomas Jane of course, who had already been in one.
It’s easily in the conversation for a top 10 list for me.
And of course I leave out Brandon as Supes and Chris Evans as Human Torch.
Hasn't every actor ended up in Marvel and,/or DC projects at this point?
@@t0dd000This was made just as it becoming a thing. It all depends on your definition of “every”. There are a number of actors that have not yet.
Probably one of those movies that's top 5 for all the coolest people to know.
11:36 always kills me😂😂 “a door” and it just cuts to a literal door in the middle of the park😂
