    Also have to pass a playing ability test. Think you have to score +16 or under over 2 rounds on the same day. Although I think you might not have to take it if you're off scratch or better, could be wrong. My local course for the playing ability is Bolton golf club in the north west.

      Callum O'Reilly that made me laugh because it's so true. I think the old sweats of every profession always say … "don't do it!" Lol

    I'm sure I've heard of a degree route that a university in the midlands does it brah! I do agree with locky's face about what he thinks of it. I just think that if you want to do it go for it and enjoy.

    in America you contact the state PGA, $ 100 to take the player ability test, 2 round with no greater score 149, both rounds played on same day, same course. once you have accomplished that you look for someone to take you under their wing and you begin the journey.

    • @rangepro

      74 & 75='149 the pga of America picked that not me.

      It's actually $175 for the PAT and the scores depend on the course plus you have to either go through the apprentice course or PGM program at a University

      No, it is a great age to start. Ian Poulter only started around your age and he has done alright for himself.

      You're never too old. Hard work & dedication will always outclass talent. Just remember talent stays stagnant, you only have a set amount of talent. Hard work causes skill level to constantly increase. Go get em! Fairways & greens

    I would agree with the comments below personal commitment is the most important factor being a 2 handicap and current club champion at my course I understand that for sure.
    i do not aggree that the golf courses are effectively longer given how far the ball goes and the giant 460cc drivers and special shafts.

    Why would I work in a shop if I became a professional golfer?

    • @waynesobanski7777
      @waynesobanski7777 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Being a PGA Pro doesn't necessarily mean you're a pro golfer (athlete). You can be a course director, club pro/coach, pro shop director, club fitter, club builder, etc... There's tons of jobs within golf that you can benefit from being a PGA pro (in the state) and not be an athlete

  • @JamesSmith-ow1ls
    @JamesSmith-ow1ls 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    why do you think the average handicap has not dropped over the last twenty years given the equipment teaching pga professionals and the fitness information available for the golfing public.

    • @jalanhart
      @jalanhart 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Smith Courses are longer and people are still playing the same color tees. The whites today are probably longer than the whites on the same course 20 years ago. The greens have probably gotten faster as a general rule. And even with all these things, the average golfer plays, what, maybe 2 times a month? Hard to improve if you don't practice or play often. Look at Lockey.

      Golf is a game you have to practice !. Equipment and $$ cannot buy a game.

    what standard of golf do you have to be playing in order to become a playing professional?

    • @Itachikeyser99

      If you shoot under par every time you play then perhaps give it a go.

      Peter Mullen I have friends who are PGA certified and do compete. The courses they take me to are very hard. Tight, long, super fast greens. They play the tips which could be from 6,500-7,100 plus. I play the men's reg tees so I'm playing a few hundred yards shorter and shooting mid 70's whereas they are breaking 70 from the tips. Excellent golfers but couldn't make a living competing. My friend Ryan Prokay plays on the west Florida golf tour and there are rounds he shoots high 70's, even low 80's. Then there are rounds he shoots 65. The courses and competition are insanely difficult. If you can't shoot in the 60's every time at your local mom and pop 6,200 yard course, you have almost zero chance of competing against a real pro. The difference between a scratch golfer and a "tour player" is a very big gap. Believe me. If you played high school golf and didn't get accepted into a D1 golf program, then you may as well forget about competing. However it's still possible to obtain a PGA certificate following the PGA.com steps and becoming a course pro or teacher etc. I can hang with local course pros who have PGA status, but they are nowhere near good enough to compete on any tour that pays well enough to live on. The guys you see on PGA tour, web.com, European are absolute beasts at golf. 1/1000 type players. If it's your passion and you're not an excellent player, there are other avenues in the industry. Most courses have a PGA cert running the shop and lessons and so on

    Ya dont try and be a pga teaching pro lol you will work 4 years calling names to the first tee making crap wage, then once your a certified pro you wont make much more and realize it was a dumb move.
