    Nice to get the real deal on the cost to get on tour. Eye opening for those interested in going that route. It ain’t cheap, so you’d better be good.

    Great video man!! It can get crazy. I’m playing a whole heap of amateur events around the state at the moment and it’s really tough because you’re not playing for cash, just experience and maybe a start in a pro event. Some days it just feels like I’m tearing up money and sinking it down the gutter.

    Fascinating. When i looked into playing on tour (wacky club members where i worked wanted to back me), cost (with caddie, which you did not include) was $58,000. In 1969! Repeat: almost 50 years ago. No courtesy cars. Sponsorships were negligible (Amanda paid $25 a week to wear their hat; $100 if you won. Seriously). Back then, you had to finish in top 10 on PGA Tour to make anything. Almost every pro also had a club job and most had a 2nd, Sunbelt gig. Costs now are about the same but all the other dollars are many times more. Thought you might like an old man’s perspective.

    Andrew next time you play an event in Orlando do yourself a treat if you have the funds and stay the night at the Hilton...I had a tournement at reunion resort last year in Orlando and I got a deal for 80 bucks a night at the Hilton and it was the best hotel I've ever stayed at.

    Spending $800 for a $20k purse doesn't sound like a winning proposition to me. Does anyone make money at those levels? It would seem to me that the best would just "bleed more slowly" but still lose quite a bit, no?

    Would it be cheaper to try and invest in a camper van or something similar, obviously the outlay might be a bit at the start, but you can box off hotel costs, and have a consistent place to stay, make it somewhat homely. I know this is probably easier said than done, really enjoying the videos.

    Nowhere near the level of golfer required to play in these events, but Good Lord, these costs! I'm glad I grew up in the DIY punk scene. When I travel, I sleep in my car = $0 on hotel. I eat McDonalds/Taco Bell = $10-15 a day on food. $100 for 2-3 days of eating?! Living like a King!
    Also, unrelated, but has anyone ever told you you kind of look like pro skateboarder Andrew Reynolds?

    • @andrewjensengolf
      @andrewjensengolf  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No caddies required, only on weekends of Mackenzie tour. Pay is something arranged and unique to each player

    Whats the typical payment arrangement for coaching among mini tour players? Are they taking a percentage or do you pay your guy per lesson?

    • @andrewjensengolf
      @andrewjensengolf  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be a pay per work arrangement or even no pay at all, depending on the frequency of lessons

  • @mebeingU2
    @mebeingU2 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Informative video...question for you, do you ever use a caddie? And if so, do they loop for free, or is that another expense?

    • @andrewjensengolf
      @andrewjensengolf  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most events are caddie free when below Mackenzie Tour. If you have one, it's typically a friend doing it for free. Mackenzie Tour requires a caddie on the weekends, and that's roughly 50$/day

    Andrew, I played in my first ever professional tournament as an amateur a few weeks ago and was doing really well on the front 9. The course was challenging and through 9 I was 2 over and tied for 5th. I checked the leaderboard while making the turn and choked really hard on the back 9 and ended up shooting a 95 on a par 72. The pressure really got to me and I''m really disappointed with myself. I haven't played seriously since, as I've been too disappointed about it and have lost the drive, at least for the time being. Any tips on overcoming this? Being an amateur tied for 5th was giving me confidence while making the turn, then I just choked really hard and since I've just been to disappointed...

    • @andrewjensengolf
      @andrewjensengolf  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Only tip I can offer is you just have to process the emotions and move on, just like a bad day... it happens. I can relate to the disappointment, but the score doesn’t define you. Take a look at the positives and draw/focus on those. Get back out on the course and try to have fun again, the 95 doesn’t have enough power to ruin this game for you, so don’t let it 💪🏼

    What level of golf do you need to play at to consistently be in the money?

    • @andrewjensengolf
      @andrewjensengolf  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most events pay the top 1/3 of the field. Breakeven for the event is usually a top 15 or top 10

  • @lennygipson8707
    @lennygipson8707 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Great video! However I feel that the cost of food should not be factored because you would have to eat regardless of playing golf or not.

    • @andrewjensengolf
      @andrewjensengolf  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you’re self employed, you claim your food expenses on your income tax, thus making it an expenses of the “job” of golf.

    • @camjudson2330
      @camjudson2330 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Have you ever looked into camping as a way to save on fees for lodging? Most camp areas have running water and electric for much cheaper than an Air BnB or a hotel. In Ottawa there are sites for around 35 dollars a night? Every 5th tournament would be literally another entry fee.

    • @rhysowen9566
      @rhysowen9566 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Andrew Jensen yes it’s claimable on tax, but food is an every day expense so adding that to the cost of competing really doesn’t make sense. If anything, you’re saving on food during tournaments because you’re claiming it on your tax, whereas you can’t claim your food when you’re not competing/travelling for work.
