    I would recommend using heavy duty washers vs a spacer. Washers you can add or remove until you get the level desired.

    I like your mod so much that I went and Bought the bolts. As a spacer I decided to use a washer stack from tractor supply. This way it’s almost infinitely adjustable. Once I reach the perfect height for me, I’ll weld a bead down a couple sides of the stack to make it solid.
    Starting it tomorrow.

    Yeah i noticed with large trucks, they make them for taller people in general so this is a very practical and smart adjustment hack. Nicely done and probably the first tutorial on this on youtube. 💯🔥😻

    Jess I did something like this years ago on some of my old vehicles trucks n cars, I am 5'8" & always had the same problem looking over the hood, what I did is similar to your install only difference was I used shock mounting bushings made of rubber or something else you can pick them up at part stores or ebay, the good thing is with rubber or the other material it gives you more of a cushion when you hit bumps but what I also did is mount least 1 bushing on each side of the front & 2 double stacked each side to the rear of seat, bushings are thick that after the install you gain over an inch of a lift & gives you perfect view feels like you are in a truck..
    I will be doing this to my truck soon I have same truck as your's 4x2 offroad & I want to say again with the rubber bushings you get a comfortable ride which I can't understand why vehicle manufactures don't install bushings between floor & seat frame nevertheless I want to mention that the bolts are going to be longer in length front & rear but they should also be hardened bolts not soft bolts being if they are not hardened in an accident the heads of the bolt could snap off causing serious injury just to note that being manufactures are using hardened bolts as well for that reason, good video keep em going👍

    • @BurtBowers
      @BurtBowers 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      How big did you get them

    • @BurtBowers
      @BurtBowers 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bruisedbanana3944 They was the basic black bushings that goes top & bottom of shocks, they have others today I seen that are taller made from different material but I like rubber ones for better cushion, I happen to go on ebay they have em but you only need the basic flat rubber ones they go for under 5$ you would need 6 total for each seat 2 to the front 1 on each side, 4 for the back 2 double stacked unless you want to go three stacked for each side to rear that would give you plenty of a high chair effect seeing easly over hood though keep in mind front & rear bolt sizes will change & suggest to use hardened bolts only which you can get at hardware stores so measure out what size you need & what you want to consider is to use flat washers top & bottom they sometimes come with rubber bushings I seen them if anything else just get washers at hardware store it's all worth it if you want the higher effect it rides much better & get a way better over look in front of the truck..

    Good video. However, I went hunting for the bolts and the metal spacers, not only to a hardware store but to a home improvement store. The bolts were easy to find. But the spacers were not. All they had were plastic. So I improvised. I purchased (3 ) 3/8 inch nuts whose diameter were slightly larger than the bolt's diameter. I stacked them one on top of the other and created the desired metal spacer. Tightened the bolts nice and tight. Worked like a charm. (lock washers would be advisable as well). What's good about this is that the nuts can be added or subtracted for the desired height with the proper bolt.

    The seats are probably designed like that because of the smaller overall height of the interior cab. Raising the seat up would probably make the seat more comfortable for people with longer legs. I do have to wonder why the 4runner has height adjustable seats though.

    Cool way to save money and very clever. However, this project too way longer than anticipated. I could not for the life of me get the left side bolt to match up with the hole. I’ll insert the bolt first without spacer and washer and it screws right in. But then I go to Jack it up, insert spacer and washer and the bolt will just not line up to screw in. Will need to think of something else. Right side has no issues though.

    This is OK for the backend but for the front I would HIGLY recommend the lifters from Desert Does It. They're solid, safer and include the tab that goes into the hole at the bottom and a hole for the seat rail at its top for a secure fit. They're pricey ($99) but WAY WORTH IT! They even come with predrilled holes on their fronts for the available Molle like mesh that can be used to mount a flashlight or small extinguisher. I'm 6' 0 and it makes it FAR more comfortable on long drives..

    had worked on the seat modification, however came across an obstacle relating to a tight rear bolt on the driver side . Bolt is so tight, couldn't take it off, so i am going to have to return the items you suggested back to the store.

    I want to do the opposite, I need the seat lower. The 3rd gen Tacomas have basically zero steering wheel adjustment and my legs are cramped under the wheel. Do they make seat brackets that go lower? I can't find any. Alternatively can the steering wheel be raised at all?

    • @JesseRizo
      @JesseRizo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No they don’t,
      Steering wheel should be adjustable if you look under the steering wheel on ur left side of the steering wheel column at the bottom there should be a black lever that allows you to adjust the steering wheels height

    • @AGodwin
      @AGodwin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JesseRizo Yes, and it allows for about 1" of travel upwards which is not enough. Im looking for a lower seat rail or some type of mod to allow for more steering wheel movement. Mazda allowed for nearly 4 inches of travel, Toyota really didnt think this through. If you google this issue there are tons of people with this thought, I cant believe a solution hasent been made yet.

      I have an '07 (2nd gen) and I tried out a third Gen. Hated it. Windshield is at an odd angle, roof seems lower and the seat position sucks. I thought they were going to have power seats according to an article I read a while back but this one didn't have it. I swear the designer was only 5' 5..

    This an very out of the box mod but I think that affects the safety aspect of the the actual seats just be aware that if you do this mod and you get in a wreck that mod you installed under neath your rear seat anchor points might fail

    Great content as always jesse, keep it up! Rob was thrilled with this mod lol. I am 6'1" but still would like to try this mod, the sitting position in the tacoma is not the best, not that i really need the height, but to level the seat a little bit. If you can, please let me know if this new set up isnt uncomfortable, or maybe hurts your back during long drives, i suffer from back injuries and it could help me make the decision, thanks in advance.

    • @RobMotive

    I have a 2017 Tacoma TRD off-road....... i’m only 5 ft 7.......... is the spacers you’ve used in an inch or an inch and a half?????...... and I’m wondering if I could possibly get different size spacers and just try to get different heights spacers and bolts to get the proper adjustment I want............ do you think this is a good idea????..... or should I just stick with the spacer you have.............. your input or anybody’s input would be very helpful.............. just wanted to know if I should get different height spacers, and try all of them and see which one I like the best.

    • @JesseRizo
      @JesseRizo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it’s inch spacer a good amount of people in the comments were saying it’s better to get a 1inch washer which I’m not sure where to get that, also just disclaimer if you do this I would highly recommend getting better bolts then I showed here find a grade 8 bolt that will fit it’ll be safer and a washer and lock washer 👍, I’m 5,5 almost 5’6 just got hieght comparison, hope that helps 👍

      Jesse Rizo Just did mine today but went a little different route. I got an inch spacer, with a 3 inch bolt but the threads were close to the bottom of the bolt So I used washers on the bolt to adjust it and then use the washers on the bottom to give it even more height. So I am at an inch and a half on height...... much better!!!!.... can’t believe the difference.

    Hey im 4'11 and I cant even reach the pedals in my husbands 1996 4runner. I was looking into seat spacers but questioning if the inch is really even going to do much. I feel like i need a booster seat with a back 😆 but that would look silly.. im trying to figure out how to get the seat to a spot that I can actually see and reach the pedals. He also has a clutch. So I need to be able to use that, so basically get my foot to push the clutch down all the way.

    How safe is this? I feel as if the spacers are a little too skinny

    • @boyzee01
      @boyzee01 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I too think the spacers need to be at least twice as thick as the one's used as that bracket has to support not only a persons weight but vibration and possibly wobbling if the bolts started to get loose.........oh and don't forget lock washers......

    • @randyr6610
