    in real life the recorder on the table is just for show, to get the suspect to think he can talk more freely when it is off, the interrogation room itself has microphones and is always recorded.

      A lot of police work is just reading people and bluffing. Fingerprints aren't 100% reliable. DNA can only tell things if someone's already on the record, and even then it can only pinpoint a family. Get two brothers on the DNA record and you'll have a heck of a time with it. We already know Polygraphs are fake, it's the operator you have to deal with.

      What are your thoughts on this game?

    • @EvilLamp6
      @EvilLamp6 4 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Disclaimer, I have not played the game myself, only seen what Jon has played for us. With that being said, as someone else mentioned earlier, all of our sessions were always recorded (hidden audio and video) so even with the presence of a recorder, there was no "turning off the cameras/microphones" (although certainly a tactic used to discuss things 'off the record' from their perspective.) This was for our protection (liability/safety) as much as the detainees (abuse/torture).Many of the questions in the game are simple yes/no or one answer replies are able to be given, whereas open ended questions are usually better (questions that work towards building rapport are a general exception to this where a simple yes/no question makes the most sense). To use some examples from the game, "Are you from the city?", if you are trying to establish where they are from it is "better" worded as "Where are you from?" in most cases. If you already know where they are from or are trying to establish rapport with them because you are also "from the city" then asking "Are you from the city?" does make sense as a "good" question, with a follow-up of, "Oh yeah, what part, tell me about it/how's the neighborhood/etc".Another is, "Do you have any friends or family?" Ideally, you'd already have a list of known family members/friends before the interrogation (and who doesn't usually have at least one friend or family?). So the "better" question if you didn't know that would be "What friends or family do you have?" Again, if you are building rapport, asking "Do you have any friends or family?" is fine especially if you already know the answer and are just using it as an approach (they have a wife and kids, you're using it to get them to talk about their wife and kids, then using that relationship and the potential fear of losing that relationship by being locked up in prison to have them cooperate with you).A good example is with the second case and the "So you have a cat, you say?" From the responses given, it is clear that the guy really likes his cat and seems to be an "animal person". So a good approach with this guy is his love of pets. And it shows in the statement of "Fred, the Front will hurt innocent people - their pets too." If I were saying it, I would've specifically included mention of his cat, Muggy and how he wouldn't want harm to come to them from the actions of the Liberation Front causing violence to people/pets, but still a good example of calling back to the man's love of his pet and using that on him. So overall, I think it is an interesting game from what I've seen, it does some things alright, and others just wrong, but it is a game after all.

  • @d.m.515

    For anyone wondering, buying a gun at a gun fair doesn't actually exempt you from anything. States that require registration or licensing still check you, and regardless of state, each dealer at the fair is required to give you the same intense background check as is in stores. The only way to get around the background checks and registries is with a private transfer (if your parent gives you a gun, for example), but most private transfers involve a background check anyway, to avoid any legal trouble if the gun is later stolen or whatever. Source: I grew up in a popular hunting area where there were a lot of firearms circulated and was good friends with the guy who owns the gun store. I'd say the comment about "getting the gun at a gun show" was either a deliberate misdirect by an uninformed husband or poor knowledge of the process involved in obtaining a gun by the writers.

    • @evanbradley6169
      @evanbradley6169 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be fair, you can absolutely find some old boomer who'll sell you a gun for cash, but it's probably going to be an older gun (like my 1972 norinco or 1939 tula, for example) and you're more likely to shoot yourself to get out of having to listen to another word from them than you are to actually hurt someone else.
      So, in defence of the "gun show loophole" crowd, it can be done, but it's still not as easy as they say.

    • @d.m.515
      @d.m.515 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Evan Bradley yes, those are private transfers or private sales, which are rather hard to regulate. They tend to be really murky in terms of legality, at least in states that don’t specifically protect or regulate them. As I understand, several states (Colorado, California, New York, some others) require any private transfers to include a background check, I think this is facilitated by the private transfer being “moderated” at a gun store, but I don’t live in any of those states, so don’t quote me on that. As for danger, this is usually going to be a parent transferring a firearm to their child as inheritance, gift, &c, so it’s usually between two people who know how to handle guns responsibly.

      @@TheMrVengeance I've been to court for very serious felony charges multiple times, I know my rights, if you had an unregistered firearm that was safe and accounted for then yeah don't mention it, but if your unregistered firearm covered in your fingerprints is missing and was probably the murder weapon than yeah it's I your best interest to fucking disclose that, and btw a lawyers job isn't to lie for you and cover shit up, it's to paint the facts in the best light for your case, and that gun would be a very crucial fact. And yeah you should always have a lawyer present but that's beside the fucking point, lots of people know there rights and know what is and isn't incriminating, and lying about something like that is way more incriminating than the fact that it exists.

      3. It's not "besides the fucking point" it was literally my entire point.
      Just as a quick example. You tell the police right away about your unregistered firearm that's missing.
      Now it turns out later they were never able to find that firearm/the murder weapon.
      Congratulations. You've now incriminated yourself further.
      In a shooting of your wife where you'll be the default suspect, you've told the police you had access to an unregistered firearm. While without talking they'd have had nothing. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Hey Jon, given your love for this and LA Noire you should really, really look into playing or doing a series on Sherlock Homes: The Devils Daughter. Don't bother about the other ones, they took the series in a new direction with this one and it really shows. This game has plenty of action, plenty of fun things to do with some truely epic scenes. You have to gather evidence and clues. You then have to interrogate individuals and try figure out who did it and the choices are almost always never easy or obvious. And like LA Noire, the game doesn't write everything down for you. It gives you the basics but if you miss something being said then you miss it.
    The story is smart and well written and you often never know what is going to happen next. I've done things in that game that I've never done in any other game, and I've played a lot of games over the years.
    It's also got one hell of an amazing first mission. I've never played a game like it and compared to the repetitive nature of LA Noire it is much, much better overall.
    Please look into doing this game!!

    Twist ending: Jon was a cog in an oppressive (albeit gun friendly) totalitarian government machine and the front wants to bring it down. Or the opposite. Or neither. Or all. A film by M. Night Shyamalan.
