I'm not angry. I'm disappointed. But at least we got 2 films! I'm still not over the canceled Scream 4 trilogy. Rest easy Wes Craven. I always wondered why Kirby didn't die on screen. Seeing her in 7 was a major fan service for those who loved Scream 4. It was ahead of its time. So much in our culture was predicted by that film. It was a solid film that had the charm of the first 3. These new ones were clearly inspired by the new Halloween trilogy. Kills was decent. Ends was YIKES!

It’s a sad time to be a scream fan. My favorite franchise is being ruined by a cheap ass executive of spyglass. They made sm profit off of scream 5 and 6 yet they don’t want to pay their leads what they are worth. The fact it says “I don’t need Neve and I don’t need Jenna” is absolutely disgusting.
Same thing happened to SW and other franchises I love. Being destroyed before my eyes. It truly sucks because I love Scream and I hate that such a good and consistent franchise is going downhill in such a small amount of time and its not even because of a bad movie.
His over confidence and cheap ways will be his downfall, he should just save his money at this point because by the looks of it Scream 7 will be a flop and he for sure will not bring any A list celebrity for people to actually want to watch it.

Why am I saying that it was Spyglass who said it? Well because these "sources" also need to get the information from someone. And that "someone" has to be spyglass. They have the project.
Why do I find it interesting? Well first of all Jenna said in the past she doesnt really care for money on a project and would take paycuts for the success of the project. But thats irrelevant.
The main point is, that if Jenna was never supposed to be in the movie. Then from reliable sources that had the script for 7 before Melissa was fired we got some news. The script HAD Jenna in it. Why the heck was Jenna in it if they knew that Jenna wasnt going to be in the movie? It doesnt make sense.
I wouldnt trust what Spyglass says AT ALL after what they did. They can make up ANYTHING they want to the sources. Lets remember that this is the same studio that didn't even tell Melissa she was fired. It was Jenna who called her after seeing the news. They're a scummy company who doesn't even want to pay ANYONE. Lets not forget Neve in Scream 6 who didn't get payed.

Praying they pull a Halloween H20 and do a direct sequel to Scream 4, ignoring the events of the very mediocre Scream 5 and 6

That whole "don't need Neve. doesn't need Jenna" really grates on me. For some reason the studio thinks it's about Ghost Face. Ghost Face is the least interesting thing in the film. Except for the original, GF ends up being the most expendable and least memorable character(s). Next in importance is the Voice, then the kills, followed by the friend group/characters. And then the most important element - _Scream is all about the final girl._ If there is no final girl we care about, then Scream just becomes another slasher.

We don’t need Jenna. These new Scream outings trying to go the Disney route. With a more diverse cast and socially aware approach, are huge fails. So they need to go back to what made the franchise so popular these past ten years. And most likely give it a proper send off with 7, and let it RIP.

They're trying to make us believe that Jenna's exit has nothing to do with Melissa's firing and that this has been happening for over a month and came out just now. Spyglass's first note about Melissa's firing was condemning her stories, they didn't say anything about the decision to make a reboot after Jenna asked for more money and stuff, they saw the backlash about all this, and now they're doing damage control.

@@norbieg227 That doesn't make sense because Scream 5 and 6 revolves around Sam and her mental health, not Tara. Sam is Billy's daughter, not Tara; Amber and Richie wanted to kill Sam to make her their "villain", not Tara; Richie's family wanted to kill Sam because she killed Richie, not Tara. Tara is there just to be the sister Sam loves and wants to protect, but it's not the main focus. Like, there's room to stories with just Melissa, but not with just Jenna. With just Jenna they would have to make a whole another storyline with motives and stuff to justify Tara as the main target, but Scream 7 would be the end of a trilogy, not the beginning of a new one.

Worst mistake some could ever made! First stranding relationships with Neve, now with Melissa and Jenna? And now they want Neve? I’d personally ask double what they offer me just to see them suffer.
I totally agree with what you said about how Neve Campbell, Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega were disrespected. If it were up to me to come up with Scream 7 I'd be very respectful to those 3 beautiful and talented actresses. I'd even offer them a huge sum of money as long as they agreed to return for their roles. But if they couldn't because of scheduling conflicts or whatever then I'd improvise somehow. Instead of doing Scream 7 as a reboot though I'd just make it a sequel to Scream 6. I'd even do my best to make it the most suspenseful and scariest of them all.
What was the point in getting us to care for these new characters without Sidney just to do this to Melissa for such a stupid reason?
I didn't even much care for Sam's character or where they were taking the series but firing her for speaking up for those currently suffering and trying to twist her intentions is too far.
I wasn't the biggest fan of V or VI but I still enjoyed them, and this situation has made me so mad at the studio, I don't want a Scream VII. If Neve and Courteney return I'll watch it but otherwise I might just go back to the original trilogy and the other films and enjoy the content we have already

Basically in Scream 5 they succeeded in what so many franchises failed to do. They were able to pass the torch of the main character so brilliantly to new, well developed and quickly beloved characters, only to throw them in the trash because someone made use of their free speech. The people at Spyglass are so abusive to these actresses and at this point they should just sell the rights of the film to a better company.
If you look more closely at CEO Gary Barber, you can see why Spyglass have gone to shit.

Is there a way for the Scream series to go to another studio? They did it before with Dimension. Surely they could do it again.

The TV Series is owned by Paramount, so I could see them bringing the show back. Be kind of epic to see Lakewood return. At this point, the whole franchise needs a break from the movies with the whole Spyglass mess. Unless you mean the movies? Then it's owned by Spyglass unless they want to sell it or the head, Gary Barber, gets replaced.
The great thing about the "Scream"-franchise is that the characters were the anchors and not the villain. Jason, Mike Myers and Freddie were the ones (I could even throw Leprechaun and Leatherface into the mix) who were the glue in the respective franchises.
However, Ghostface is just a mask. An outfit the protagonists have to face. With interchangable villains with different motivations.
So far, the core characters have been the ones who kept the franchise together. So let us say that Gail and Kirby are the only ones left, it more or less leaves us with a new bunch of characters that us viewers haven't invested in yet, with more or less two cameos.
Spyglass have to think this through, Landon is an inspiring choice, and he might have some twists to the formula, But my two cents would be to re-hire Barrera and Campbell and make a deal out of that (like PR). Would probably earn Spyglass more money than their paychecks would cost them.
This is why i keep coming back to your channel. You stand up for what's right while demanding respect for these women. I feel that firing Melissa was overkill (no pun intended) and its honestly gross. I'm glad Jenna walked away as well and stood up for her friend/costar. Thank you BTM for speaking out on this! yes i agree. honestly so much respect for jenna ortega. i was starting to think she was yet another overrated pretty face in hollywood (admittedly: in the beginning, i didnt know she and olivia rodrigo were different people. i thought she was a musician turned actress lol). but instead, her standing up for her friend and against such an egregious firing is really cool to see.
Neve was used to pass the torch to melissa and she became bwloved as shes billy's love child. Now they take her away i say tge only thing that can save this is bringing back neve as the main focus and we get one last sidney story
I think a good storyline would be neve and Patrick Dempsey comeback, but they won't be the main target like what they could do is bring in someone and make that character and old friend of Casey becker(drew barrymore) and have them as the new target, and neve Campbell character can play the same role she played in scream 5, where she isn't the prime target but she helps the main target fight off the killer. They could also bring back stu character and give him a similar role that billy(skeet Ulrich) plays. Stu character could be an old friend or love interest of Casey Becker friend, that would be a good storyline also.
And thx God, that she will not be the "new final girl"! We don't need new final girl, bring back old one!

What made Scream great was the Sidney’s character type, the Anti-Villain
Where ghostface is interchangeable The Main Character Sid was able to walk away to the next installment.
Sam was set up to be the new Anti-Villain, but we should remember these aren’t exact Oscar awarding movies, low budget slasher only get the studios a quick buck to keep the lights on.
also we need to bring Kirby back as the antithesis lead as Dewey/Gale and randy to a lesser extent were.

At this point if you’re Spyglass you should give Neve the exact amount she asked for (and deserved) during the failed negotiations for Scream 6 as an apology, then in addition you give her exactly what she asks for to return for Scream 7, and then make her an EP like they did with Courteney on 6. That’s the only way fans will be able to go into this with any bit of excitement. The profits they have made off the last two movies is astronomical and there is absolutely no reason they can’t start righting their wrongs by paying Neve what she is 100% worth!

Neve is a smart woman: she probably realizes you're not gonna get marvel money for horror films even if its been a hugely successful franchise BUT that should play into negotiations and the fact she's been in every one shows she's just not looking for a huge payday to come back for a cameo or anything like that.
My assumption is she's probably gotten a couple million for each of the last couple movies especially since 4 and 5 were "free agent" movies for her; they did sign her to 3 films immediately after being cast for the first trilogy. Plus she was so unsure on 4 and 5 so she probably did say I'll need a pretty good paycheck for it too (which is COMMON, not greedy). So for 6 she probably felt an increase was fair, asked for a solid $5 million (or something) and they balked. Again: a COMPLETE guess. I've never heard actual figures. Yes: now pay her WHATEVER she wants!!!!

Spyglass should look at inflation and compare what the original trilogy made in todays money compared to their two films and the original trilogy leaves their two films in the dust! I can't see a reboot doing well, they might have had a chance retconning Scream 2022 and Scream 6 and continue from Scream 4 but if they do a new film with an entirely new cast than I can't see it doing well!
If they really do Reboot it. I REALLY hope they reveal Jill survived 4 and has been in prison ever since. This would be the perfect opportunity to play on Kevin Williamson's original plans for 4.

Imo I agree with you're opinion on how actors should be treated but to me all 4 of them were unbearable hopefully they'll remove the twins as well all you have to do is watch Gen v and you'll see how bad all 4 of them are acting wise by comparison to that cast

The plot gets thicker... It's wild how things are going but I still do have hope for Scream 7... As a true fan I do hope the film succeeds. ... I feel if they can get Neve back and on board with a big climax that wraps this story up that makes sense .. it may have a strand of hope to survive... Finger's 🤞...
Make a prequel to the beginning. Have it following Sydney's mom and her affair with Billy Loomis father, and cotton and then leading up to her death. Leave it on a cliff hanger with Casey answering the first phone call

This might be controversial but I think Scream would be great if it was rebooted as an anthology. Not only a new killer every movie, but a new cast, setting and tone for a whodunnit slasher. We have great movies in the series but the quality keeps plummeting with each installment because there’s only so much you can do in that universe. I think they have a great opportunity to try a different approach with an entirely new cast and story.
I know it's cool to blame controversy for Disney's misses this year but most movies have under performed this year. Movies that had no real issues around them also failed. There were some massive hits but very few. I think the bigger issue is that theaters haven't really bounced back from lock down. I love the Scream franchise but I am already feeling like I'll wait to see it on some streaming service rather than to go to the theaters.
I think people largely don't care about controversy even though they pretend they do. I think people DO care about being treated like they don't matter. Spyglass has no respect for the fans or the actors. That will ultimately be their downfall, not some random controversy. IMO.

There's only so many movies and tv shows people can watch and pay for. People have other things to do. There's a ton on streaming already. Doesn't mean everything is some political monstrosity...there's just only so much that can hit at a time.

I want Spyglass to sell the rights because I will never support a studio that disrespects its leading actresses. Melissa, Neve, and Jenna all deserve better.
That's what needs to happen they need to drop Spyglass and have them hire some other studio film it. Everyone hates Spyglass so it's the only real good path forward. Then they can rehire the cast.

Gonna be honest, I'm not against a reboot at all. None of the new characters were particularly appealing, none of them were worth keeping. Scrap em, start again with a new group being attacked by someone linked to the murders somehow and avoid the cheesy, campy 'Daddy's got the family back together to get revenge plot' of part 6 which just didn't work!

I disagree. Scream 4 was a soft reboot that killed off it's main lead. That wasn't conceived as a trilogy. Scream 4 is one of the better entries in the franchise and with Williamson's involvement, still feels like an essential part of the franchise. Scream 5 was another reboot, but unlike 4, didn't attempt to do anything new. Barrerra's character in Scream 6 felt extremely similar to part 5. It had a satisfactory conclusion with Sam leaving behind the mask, presumably forever. The series is constantly reinventing itself. We should welcome the news that they are going in a different direction.
Ortega leaving could have very well influenced the decision to fire Barrerra. Unlike what the article says, it would have been a huge pivot since the ending of 6 brought Ortega much closer to her sister as well as Mason Gooding who she started a romance with. It could very well be that Ortega commanding a much higher salary than her costars is what indirectly led to the film being scrapped. It may well be that there are no good guys here. But as fans, we should just be happy we're getting another Scream movie.

I have to say I never miss your videos and you are always right on point. And you're correct You've never been one to put in your opinion or to get political or to take sides. You've always just been about the joy of these movies. But to hear your tangible realized anger over this issue is so refreshing because in my opinion if they can get you so upset they clearly have done something wrong. You are actively the voice of the fans. I feel represented by you in this area. If anything, they should just take note of what this channel has said alone and realize the mistakes that they've made. I don't know if it's too late to get her back but they need to just get her back. And the entire time they should just be paying Campbell whatever it is she asks for because again there is no Scream without her. And although the last movie did fine, But that's just it Scream is supposed to be more than fine. It was visible it was relevant how much she was missed It made the movie feel hollow. They can do Halloween without Jamie Lee. They can do Nightmare without Nancy but they cannot do Scream without the Scream Queen. She literally invented the title and is the barometer that all survivor girls will always be measured by.
I would legit retcon Scream 5 and 6 at this point. I wouldn’t have Chris Landon or Radio Silence be involved.
Bring back Neve, bring back David, bring back Patrick, bring back Hayden for a sequel that’s set after Scream 4. And bring back Williamson.
I believe what you are saying respect the actors however I feel Sydney needs to take the reigns again to end the story of her and potentially bring a new era in no legacy characters. A whole new concept as its becoming predictable. Make it more focused on the story in general and not a particular person. Make it shock people and make it memorable. In my opinion. Great observation: if you don't respect talent, it leaves. Pixar is dead because they fired Lasseter; Star Wars is dead because they throw away Lucas' ideas; Marvel is dead because they disrespected James Gunn. I’m not so sure. I’ve never seen a fandom this incensed before. Maybe the ones who didn’t care much about 5 and 6 will go watch it, but for the bulk of the fandom, I think would genuinely boycott this out of solidarity for the final girls.

Barrera and the “Core Four” wore too thin anyway. Everybody and their mother bitched about the survival of whatever his name was and that nobody in the main cast were ever killed. If they ditched them I’d be able to sleep at night. Yes what they did was fucked up. No argument there, and the way they treated Neve was even worse. I feel if they bring her back and concluded the series people would probably be okay with it in the end. But then I don’t speak for anyone but me. Just a projection.

Studios have this nasty misogynistic habit of disrespecting and undervaluing its female stars. The whole, “He didn’t need Neve, he doesn’t need Melissa.” is bs bc a lot of people still had a hope that Sidney would return. Now that Spyglass has set a precedent, that old fck Barber at the top acts like it won’t affect anything. Honestly, how out of touch do you have to be to think your bottom line wouldn’t be affected by all this?
I mean looking at it from a more literal/realistic standpoint, Scream 6 did not need Sidney to keep moving. In doing that, Scream continuing without her also proved it doesn't need Sam and Tara either. I enjoyed 6 for what it was, but I think it's time to move into something new that doesn't require constant callbacks to the originals.
I love BTM, I have friends but no one to talk to about scary movies (more context). I was a bit iffy about Scream 5 w/ MB & JO, but they did great and I wanted to continue seeing more from them. I love Neve and if they were going to pass on the torch, I was glad they were able to feel in some big shoes. And then they bought Skeet Ulrich back (even if it was 1 minute totaled of screen time) I just like seeing his face.
Anyways I love concerts here to see updates and I enjoy reading comments from fellow fans and hear them out, like Kirby said, “ We’re all part of this fuck up family”
Why make another reboot. We already have a reboot "Scream 5". Makes no sense to do another reboot when you're just gonna ruin the franchise. Makes 0 sense. Reboot shouldn't even be an option, just because of this firing situation.

Bringing back Stu and a new killer. Making Stu the second and third killer of 3 and 4.
Making the theme even more as psychological horror around the stalking of Sidney.
And staying more true to Kevin Williams's scripts and story telling.
Just drop Spyglass Media Group and let Miramax work on the film and force Kevin Williamson to write the script again.

At this point i want Scream 7 to be a major flop just to rub it in Spyglass' face. Its disgusting what they are doing to their leads. To make that comment about Neve and Jenna is God awful to where I won't be surprised to see another actors strike start up again. This maybe a long shot but hey anything can happen at this point. Hopefully like BTM said Spyglass will come to their senses at some point and bring Melissa and Jenna back.
Christopher Landon does gimmicky slasher movies, so the next movie is gonna introduce the multiverse. They're gonna bring in the surviving characters from the 2 Scream series storyline. And mix them up with Gale and Kirby.

Make a movie with Gale as the lead! Traveling to bumf**k nowhere to solve a Ghostface murder like she did in Scream 1996. Solve a whole new murder with new characters. Kirby can come in and help with the case since she’s in the FBI. Have them actually and willingly work together. You wanna talk about underutilized and under appreciated. Gale! Hello! Leave the core 4 and Sidney’s family alone for now. They don’t need to be the targets of new killers every movie.
I like the idea of Gale being the target. I think it would be cool if the killer or killers had a connection to previous victims and they blame Gale for being the creative force of the Stab movies and for forging a career and making money off the deaths of innocent people. That way, you could include Kirby, Sid, and even the core 4. Gale is the string that links all the movies together now anyway.

Here is the easiest way to make a complete and total reboot. (which i don’t want but... )All you have to do is have a plot that centers around killers that have been inspired by SCREAM. So SCREAM as we know it becomes a movie in the new universe. Simple. And now that SCREAM exist in our world, they can avoid going down the STAB route because STAB does not exist in our world. This is also a way to bring any old characters back as themselves OR as a new character. Think "Wes Cravens New Nightmare" but make it ultra realistic ❤❤❤😊😊😊
I feel as though 6 ended on a note that could easily see the end of the core 4 and the start of something new, or even the end of a trilogy since we are now at 6 films.
We still have several legacy characters, and I keep saying bring on Macaulay Culkin to avenge his brother's death...
I'm a huge fan of the Scream franchise, but the more I hear about this, the less interested I am for any Scream movie from Spyglass. I hope Neve turns down all offers from this real-life Watto. The dude has no shame!
