- What’s up guys, welcome to a new episode of Beyond The Mask. I am going to be honest with you I have such a long list of content to actually get through, but today I decided to go with something a little more fun than anything too deep because there’s so much like negativity around the fandom at the moment. So basically what we’re gonna do today is, I’m gonna still discuss Scream 7, but delve into who likely could return to the franchise as they head down this sort of legacy path they’re eyeing up.

I’m so happy. Only the sellouts and newbie’s didn’t want the legacy characters back. The legacy characters are the only ones that can save this franchise.

They were only in 2 movies. One of which isn’t that great, Scream 5.
Man bring back Sydney, Gail, find a way to bring Dewey back…and any other surviving characters from Scream 1-4, and wrap up the story with the core 4.
I’d like to see them give Martha Meeks something to do. It seemed a waste to introduce her kids and make them the stars when she was in Scream 3 before them.
But she's not smart like her brother Randy Meeks and her daughter Mindy Meeks-Martin.

Why nobody talks about Randy's sister - Martha. 😢 She's still alive and the focus of next movie could go to the twins and her.

Would be pretty wild if they made Kincaid the killer, but him being the killer would be him trying to protect Sidney. Basically he becomes ghostface to get rid of everyone else connected to the new murders because he feels like if he can get rid of all loose ties and make it so that just Sidney is left, then they can live peacefully without worry because there will be no one else connected to their past that could harm his wife/become targets for a new killer or any copycats. He’d be the anti-ghostface-ghostface.
At this point, I don't want him to be the killer. She's had enough people betray her. I don't want him to die either. She needs to have her happy ending after all of these films.
Kincaid being the killer would be pretty wild and the ultimate betrayal to Sidney, especially with how much trauma it would bring.

Didn't Joel know Gale for like 2 days 25 years ago? How would he know about her growth? He was a fun character in 2 but bringing him back would seem forced.
They could just do a sequel to Scream 4 and bring back all the legacy characters such as Dewey, Sidney, Gale, Deputy Hicks, Kirby , and possibly Jill.

If they bring back Sidney & Mark, I want to see real, raw relationship angst. Not the ‘happy ending’ crap. I want fireworks, shouting, screaming, worry, fighting. The united ‘I’m not scared’ survival characters of Sidney & Gale in 5 were cringey.

I agree with you about the crap revolving around Sidney Prescott in the franchise. Let's not forget her character is one of the main reasons this franchise is what it is.

Scream 6 was a mess.
It had a few cool aspects like the beginning where the killer reveal and then the killer getting killed by a killer.
But Gale's character was ruined IMO. She made a lot of silly choices that wasn't consistent with her character arc.
Like making another book that she promised she wouldn't, like dating a younger man so soon after Dewey's death, apparently didn't write a book based on Dewey like she promised she would etc.
One more thing, that ending was stupid.
Baley runs at Sam and screams instead of shooting her with his gun?
Chad gets stabbed like 60 times from two different GF's and survives?
Mindy was down and bleeding on the train and GF doesn't finish her?
Just silly and inconsistent choices all around.
Plus, no one of any consequence dies. Whose death in Scream 6 was I supposed to care about? Sam's psychiatrist? Mindy's girlfriend, who had two lines of dialogue and whose name I can't remember? The stranger in the bodega? Mindy or Chad should have died.

The only ones that died were characters nobody cared about.
Honestly, Gale's death would have been meaningful and appropriate and one of the twins should have died IMO.

I think with Gale, is that her grief over Dewey was a little bit delayed, like she didn’t want to believe it, and it made her make some stupid choices.
i agree with the comment above me but also did y’all even see Scream 1 and 2?? Did we watch the same Gale or am i watching a different movie? yall saw the character Gale WAS and Dewey made her into a better person, she wanted to be better and Dewey did that. Without him, she reverted back to her old ways. Is it that hard to understand? I don’t condone her actions because yes i don’t like that she still wrote a book about the people who literally killed Dewey and what they did and i don’t like that she didn’t keep her promise or thought at all what Dewey would’ve wanted but that’s just the kind of person she was/is now again. It is a problem but y’all act like it came out of no where when it was in your face since the beginning of this franchise

Being honest the Scream franchise should finished with Scream 4 and they never should make more movies after Scream 4 i think this went too far. If somebody ask me, What new Scream movie do you prefer? I'm gonna say: Scream (2022) but if they could leave just with the first four movies, it's ok.
I am still puzzled that 5 was a hit…. The parade of long lost relatives…. And it looked super uncinematic….. just close ups…. No interesting camera work or shot composition like the original….
@@alejandromolinac I know, right? It's crazy how 2 siblings who are son and daughter of Martha Meeks (Randy's sister) just so happen to be friends with Wes Hicks, Judy's son, and also turns out to be friends with Tara, the sister of Billy Loomis' daughter.
And the fact they made a random side character Stu's nephew.

they truly just dont write the way they used to. i feel like thats why we care so much about legacy characters even the small ones. bc the depth we can see even from their small screen time shows through. the only resemblance w spyglass were the twins and they didnt even tap into their story their upbringing or their mom. things are just slapped together now
Trying to shoehorn everyone in can make the whole thing feel disjointed. I think that's a big part of why so many were unsatisfied with the Star Wars sequels.
The main issue I have is the Core 4 doesn’t feel like Scream to me, or just feels like a poor imitation, like Scream the MTV/VH1 series.
I want new characters but they’ve got to be well written and interesting, and the Core 4 are not interesting enough.

The only “dead” characters I want back are Parker Posey who was Jennifer Jolie/Stab 3 Gale weathers and Emily Mortimer who was Angelina Tyler aka Roman’s hidden in plain sight partner
Can we just pretend 5 and 6 didn’t happen? Bring back Stu and Jill working together to get Sydney and her family and friends. Go back to the original Scream formula. Hip, very scary and suspenseful with a little humor.
Opening scene should be a flash back to Turner Lane. Have the camera enter the front door from a low angle. All you can see are the shoes of police and paramedics, chatter, commotion, and as the camera pans through the rooms it finally stops somewhere in the living room you can hear them say "he still has a pulse.. WE HAVE A BODY HERE. GET this thing off him.
It's all about the camera angle. Don't show us, but make us feel the there.

Dewey returning would be so sad though. But I love that idea.
The one way dewy could come back could be a video of his will reading this has been done before with randy on how he was brought back for scream 3 yes honestly that being a thing actually works in the universe

Finally Kirby gets talked about. Love her character, hope shes back in next movie. Also what about Jennifer from Scream 3? I'm not convinced she's dead just like Kirby wasn't either from Scream 4. She literally made that movie with her funny ditzy character!
FOCUS on Old people's , Not a fan of The constant News Characthers New people's in The New Movíng In the seven Movies . I prefer the Inherited characters as principal characthers in this seventh film of the Franchise, script wash and story centered on Sydney Prescoott, Gale and Kirbey Reed as protagonists who put New people who don't know how to act and fuck up the movie.
Well, we could always bring back the poor parents of Casey Becker from the original. I would love to see those two again. What about the sorority sisters attached at the hip in Scream 2? Or Joshua Jackson's character from Scream 2. What about Hank Loomis, Billy's dad? Mark's detective partner from Scream 3? Also, I'd like to see a Ghostface that isn't apart of a friend group, and isn't singling out the close circle of friends. Someone going after only individuals who were connected to past killings and survivors.

Someone going after individuals who were connected to past killers is kind of what the Bailey family tried to do in 6. Remember, they were TRYING to kill people who had a hand in Richie’s death. Sam, Tara, Gale, Chad & Mindy all hit that check. It’s just that people forget because they didn’t actually succeed in killing any of these people, only the new side characters and random civilians in a bodega which is is definitely the worst part of the movie. But i for sure need a Ghostface who isn’t a part of the friend group or trying to single out the close circle of friends, like a Mrs. Loomis/Roman.
Neve Campbell has stated in the past that she would never let them kill Sidney. She said if they did she would not return for it. If they make this new Scream a Sidney centered movie starring Neve then we already know the outcome of it. Boring if you ask me. We have already seen her survive 5 movies and now we will go to the new movie already knowing the outcome. Every time Ghostface calls or chases Sidney we already know nothing will happen to her. If the character Sidney returns it can’t be as the lead. We can’t have a movie based on horror and suspense be centered and time consumed on a character that has plot armor on before the story ever starts.
I see what you are saying with Gale in Scream 6 but the problem is the movie did not show her struggling with Dewey's death, there was no scenes of her at his grave or dreaming about him or anything, it just seems like the writers decided to just have throw back scenes to Scream 2 and it's just weak writing! I think if they are going to get Sidney back than retcon the last two films and bring back Dewey!
Bring back Jennifer Jolie from Scream 3 in a way similar to Kirby
this is the one silly thing in the franchise that fans made that i stand 100% behind. Jennifer is an amazing character and i need her back cause i truly don’t care why or how they do it, she needs to come back. Other silly things in the franchise would be stuff like Stu still being alive, Jill still being alive, Stu killing Dewey secretly in 5, a third killer acting with Billy and Stu in 1, etc… but nah Jennifer returning back from being dead is something i absolutely need
Continues “updates” on Scream 7 is just a reminder how much Spyglass screwed up. With all the backlash, let there be time to renegotiate contracts and a private apology to Melissa. Bring back all OG crew members to S7

Bring back Stu, Joel, Sam’s mother. Bring it all back to the beginning
I don’t want Scream 7 to be a New Nightmare type movie I don’t want that.
For me you’ve either got 3 options.
* Option 1 is you do a Scream 7 with Sidney and Mark and it’s happening at the same time as Scream 6.
* Option 2 is you retcon Scream 5 and 6, and bring back Dewey, Sidney, Gale, Kirby (but retcon her character in Scream 6) and Mark, for a sequel to Scream 4.
* Option 3 is a hard reboot with new characters set in a new universe
For me those are the 3 options, and a New Nightmare type movie shouldn’t be one of them.
So you would rather ignore the last 2 movies/the previous reboots to either do ANOTHER reboot or start from a chapter in the middle of the series? With a new nightmare approach, it doesn’t matter what characters are dead or what movies/plot lines have already happened. And it could finally end this franchise before it really gets any worse.

And yes I would much prefer a retcon of Scream 5 and 6 because they were awful.
I would also prefer a hard reboot, which Scream 4, 5 and 6 weren’t hard reboots, they were soft reboots.

It sounds like you might not understand the breaking of the fourth wall. Wes craven’s new nightmare is literally what Scream did a couple years later (being self aware or meta if you will).
It is a great thing you don’t make movies because from a storytelling and a business standpoint, these ideas aren’t good.

I’m sorry let me get this outta the way right quick but I can’t stand Kirby. She was ok in 4 but idk I just find her a throwaway and insulting that folks call her a legacy character.
Now as for the new line of characters, I wish they wouldn’t have made Sam Billy’s daughter and just cleared the canvas. It still would have worked.
If we’re gonna revisit old characters we need to revisit Sidney’s brother Roman. Um why has that storyline just been tossed? Just cuz he’s dead allegedly doesn’t mean it not an interesting topic. The legend of Billy/Stu and only them is getting a little dry.

It's a great injustice that Dewey was taken away from us in the first movie of the new (post-Craven) branch of the franchise, and even in the middle. Dewey's return as a cameo in some form or another (be it flashbacks, videotapes, or dreams) would have provided a balance of appearances for the character in the new story, offsetting his rapid departure from the new movies and possibly revealing to us previously untold details from his past (including life in New York and his divorce from Gale). And Gale never finished the promised book about him, so we have a good chance of seeing it.
David deserves a little more respect, and I hope he reprises his favorite role in one form or another (like his colleagues Jamie Kennedy and Skeet Ulrich did).
At this point, the only thing that will bring me back is Randy Meeks. Unless they wanna say that Sidney and Mark's eldest child is old enough to be a target now.
Randy wasn't a main character, 😂🤷. He actually didn't have much significance as the OG legacies. Just my opinion 🤷
Scream 7 Ghostface in Space
I thought the black man living with Gale when she was attacked in Scream 6 was Jole. I didn't check his name in the credits I made a logical guess.
I'd like to see Mrs Riley (if she's still alive?)... it's a lot of trauma she's had to deal with. I'd really like a more heightened, psychological exploration of the trauma of Ghostface on the families of the victims. I almost picture a Woodsboro support group that meets weekly to discuss the impact of the killings. Principal Himbry's daughter, Casey's parents, the McKenzies, the Machers, etc. I'd even bring back Hank Loomis. And then Gale pitches up at the meeting wanting to talk about Dewey and everyone is angry with her. Could even be an avenue to explore a Ghostface cult. The grieving families decide to target Gale. I dunno. Could be a bit more "The Babadook" esque elevated horror. A real interrogation of grief. (Kinda like with Sidney in 3, but it's everyone... cos she may be the star, but Ghostface has destroyed many families, not just hers.
How about bring back ENDING a story. Never mind flogging a dead horse, Scream has long decomposed

Would love for legacy cast to be involved in a meaningful way!! I very much want at least one more go with Sidney. Diving in more to her family life. The most important part is the writing. If the writing is great then it could absolutely work and be amazing. (But it needs to be better than the writing we got lately.)
I have always thought they need to bring back Joel. What if he was a cameraman turned director? What if he is kind of like stunt casting (but for directors) and he's directing the new Stab reboot.
I'd love to see Rose McGowan have a cameo.

I would love to see Martha return and in scream twist fashion make her the mastermind villain behind it all….think about it sweet dorky Martha who wants to avenge the death of her brother from all those years ago no one would ever suspect

The only way I see a legacy sequel working is with the cult of stu storyline that was originally proposed for scream 2.. plus Mathew Lillard is amazing so would be great to have stu and syd face off for the final time.. could even have him seeing Billy just like his daughter in the last two movies..

I hate how we have to use Sidney again for future projects. Is it a crime to end a franchise or pass the torch to worthy characters?
Honestly, I would love to see Kincaid and Kirby return one last time BUT they have to be handled with respect. Don't pull the same BS they did with Dewey or anything like that.
I never really cared for the new characters. As long as the legacy characters were in the story, I was fine with it. But the Scream storyline was never going to be something I wanted to watch if the legacy characters were taken out completely. I have no emotional connection to the new characters and didn’t care if they lived or died, unlike the legacy characters.
If they write it well, Gale could be a strong candidate for Ghostface due to trauma. Seemed 5 and 6 explored mental health awareness, so this could be a good premise... again, if they write the script well for it to be Gale and Gale alone.

Honestly? Was hoping that Mindy or her brother got really high at a party in 5 or 6 to cope with losses and they had a hallucination of Randy giving them advice like “First off, why did you get high at a party?!? This is a prime way for you to get killed off!”. Thought it would have been a good way to bring in Billy or Stu as well as nightmare hallucinations near the bitter end of the trip
Maybe they can do a twist that mimics the 3rd film in that the killer is Gale & Dewey’s kid. Gale could’ve had and given the baby up between the 1st & 2nd film or the 2nd & 3rd (just like Sidney’s mom gave up Roman). It would be a weird twist but it could get the Dewey flashbacks we all want.
Just recon 5 and 6 and give us a direct sequel to 4. Dewey’s alive and wasn’t killed by a 5’ 90 lb girl.

Give Scream the ‘New Nightmare’ treatment. It just makes sense and would be the perfect way to end the series once and for all.

Like have a group of crazed horror movie fans obsessed with Scream targeting the real cast and crew of the series. Maybe even make them so angry because the series didn’t get a proper conclusion (poking fun at the scream 7 production drama)

@@jarredah this is actually genius, combing the two into one. Would be a great option while we wait for the core 4 issues to resolve. I don't believe they should continue the story without them unless it only focused on what Sydney was doing during or right after Scream 6.

This isn't the original script where she is the second Ghostface killer who fakes her death, just like Roman.
