Over 25 years, three ocean crossings and thousands upon thousands of cruising miles, this remarkable couple, who lived on this little yacht for almost the entire duration of this time, never ceased to improve this already popular ocean going design.
This video presents little 'Caribee' a mighty little ship, which with its long keel, high balance ratio and extremely sturdy build, would be able to face whatever the ocean throws at her, while thanks to her meticulous improvements also remains the most comfortable long-range cruiser and live-aboard we have ever seen in a 32' yacht, ever! 'Caribee' has been equipped to be capable of providing power and water for unlimited periods of time when out exploring remote parts of the world.
This amazing little ship is now for sale, for the first time in 30 years.

Wow! The quality and extent of the work that was done on the boat is exceptional! I actually bought this boat in Lymington, England back in 1982 and named her Caribee - as a reminder to eventually sail her across the Atlantic. (Her prior name was 'Kington Langley' after an obscure village in Britain which did not have any significance for me). The surveyor at the time of purchase missed that the rudder post was twisted within the rudder itself - which was probably due to an earlier hard grounding off the coast of Brittany. So I went to the Camper Nicholson yard (still in existence at that time) to have a new rudder fabricated. I remember the manager of the yard asking me "Have you been out in a gale with her yet?" I replied, no, not yet. He said "Well, you have something to look forward to." He was right. When I got caught in storm conditions crossing the Bay of Biscay the next summer, Caribee hove to beautifully and instilled a great feeling of confidence. Later when faced with heavy weather in the Aegean or off the Atlantic coast of Morocco I never had a worry. Had a fast 21 day Atlantic crossing from Tenerife to Barbados. It was interesting to see that the Aries vane gear that I purchased directly from the inventor, Nick Franklin, on the Isle of Wight, is still performing flawlessly and that the Goiot hatches that I installed have held up so well. I hope that the new owners carry on the adventure.

My God! How extraordinary! You have no idea how happy it makes me to read your words! Yes, little Caribee is here in Fiji. Here amazing owners, who lived on her for so many years have now returned to amore sedentary life, but she is the proud and joy of her new family, a couple of expat teachers living in Suva. Let me know if you would like to getting touch with them. They and her previous owners would be very touched to hear your stories!

If you were in the Berthon marina then I was also there with my Oyster Heritage 'Velindra' followed later by an Oyster 406 'Muscrat'. The good old days. Lymington was a lovely town then and hopefully still is. 2:34

Well maintained, well organized, clean and tidy. It's paramount. A boat you can sail far with confidence. I hope the owner got a good price for her.

I've never seen anyone put a boat in a hole before..and I'm amazed that it's not a more common practice. It's brilliant! I've seen holes for the rudder, so you can remove and reinstall the rudder, but not wholes for the hole boat! Got that backwards:) You can't fall down or tip over if you're on the ground. Plus you don't have to risk life and limb climbing aboard on a rickety ladder. Good thinking Captain! ⚓ Cheers!!🍺

Yes, it's a brilliant system, especially in cyclone areas. I believe this marina is the only one in the Pacific to be doing this, which is why they are so popular for people who need to keep their boat in Fiji during cyclone season.

I'm sorry I keep adding new comments but they're all different topics. You raised the cabin sole by 10" to 12"? How on Earth did you do that? The boat had that much headroom as built by Hinterhoeller? If that's the case...raising the floor that much was a very smart because using that extra space under the floor lowers the center of gravity..obviously. Of all the sailing/sailboat videos I've seen, you have the highest concentration of great ideas of them all. You're a g damn genius Gump!!

Dang, I've also never heard of anyone reinforcing the bottom with fiberglass BEFORE they have some kind of problem. You did it for prevention. I have wondered if anyone ever reinforced the keel just because..and not after a problem...but never thought of what you did, the entire bottom! I'm going to watch all your videos and learn all I can:) Thank you so much for taking the time to create edit and post your videos! You're cooler than the other side of the pillow! And you've got some wonderful ideas and experience, thanks again!
I found you because there's a Hinterhoeller 42 for sale near me. It's such a gorgeous boat, and I love the design. So I searched Hinterhoeller and you came up! I don't need to ask you how you like your boat, it's pretty obvious!
Edit: You showed a tank uber the floor and referred to Henderson. Is that just the access port or the whole tank? I think it was your diesel tank. Since the tank is directly below the floor, I'm guessing that tank was installed after you raised the floor. I'm sorry if you mentioned it but..is that tank higher capacity and 10 to 12" taller than the original? I'm very intrigued with how evolved your setup is. The evolution of your boat..you're obviously a thinker..it shows in the little solutions to problems that may not ever have happened..like reinforcing your hull bottom, it seems you solved a problem before you had a problem.
After you did this video, did you realize that you left something out? That you have yet another awesome solution that you haven't shown the world yet?
    Thank you 🙏😊

Thanks there. it's just that we can't make hours long videos. You wouldn't believe how long it takes to create, edit and upload even a 30 minutes video. We only have a small laptop and local Fijian Wifi. If you haven questions feel free to email. 😀

Nicholson 32 long keel, it seems to look like one of the pre-Mark10 versions. The Mk10 and 11 had smaller slimline portholes but this one has the older larger ones. Love them, safe and comfortable but heavy but that adds to safety

Hi Franco, this lovely boat was sold a few years ago. We kept the video live for information purposes and for someone who might want to pick some of the amazing ideas for converting such a small boat to a comfortable live-aboard.
