Tbh I think that baby will struggle in social life, there's only her parents around her, I don't think that's enough for a child to socialize properly. But I am hoping to be wrong
My friend tried to sail around the world. His boat broke down so he came back home went to school to be a mechanic for two years then continued on his journey.
Followed these guys some years back and wow have they upgraded Delos. I stopped watching about 5 years ago when their crew of 7 became a crew of 3. The early years were amazing. What an amazing group of people that was. Brady and Josja, Max and Frida and babs. Wishing you guys all the best, could not even imagine cruising with a baby on board.
My parents did the exact same thing when I was the same age as your child. I am so greatfull for the childhood and memories they offered me at such a early stage of life. I am sure your child will share the same opinion when she is older. great video and respect from The Netherlands!
You can blame that person that told Brian that there are no "awards" or recognition for working the most time in the office or at a client site. So around '08 or '09, he sold it all, bought a boat and went to Mexico for a while. His youngest brother later joined. That was a long, long, time time ago... in a galaxy far far away.
This is the hippiest yet wholesome video TH-cam have recommended, I just love the whole dynamic of being outside the world and yet being part of it by having internet, electricity, etc. It just makes me think that us city people use so much more stuff than what we really need.
You should check their youtube channel. It's so awesome. Lots good vibes and everything. They let other people from different countries sail with them for months.

Love the video. 30 years ago my wife and I sailed our 33 foot sloop from U.S. to South America and back on a 3+ year voyage. It was amazing. Like you, we were not professional sailors and had to learn a great deal about sailing and maintaining a boat. We were 25 years old at the time and I am now 60. I spent a full year (part time) just outfitting the boat for the trip. Many great experiences learning new things, sailing, diving, fishing, meeting people and looking back on it even the harrowing experiences were great.
I lived on my sailboat for 14 years when I was younger. About 94,000 miles logged and probably lots more I didn't log. Best years of my life. I'd love to do it again.
I see posts like yours periodically. My next question is, 'What made you want to give it up'? I'm sick of the house scene and I'm considering going mobile in a boat. Kind of scared not knowing what I'm getting into.
Lived on mine for 7 years. What many don’t tell you is they still have pirates. Seriously. Plus CG can rip your sailboat apart if they want. And foreign countries are not too good to stop at now. Learn the laws before you go anywhere.
It's amazing how self supporting you are in every way and every single spot on your vessel that's beeing used. Really admire people who choose there own path in life and who can break free from the beaten track. Have a safe and happy journey 👍
Imagine going back in time and telling her "tomorrow you will meet a man who will sweep you off your feet and sail you across the world for 9+ years, and you going to have a child on the boat." I wonder what she would say? Either way I wish them both happy and fulfilled lives.

I think a little bit of that freedom went away when they started carrying a camera everywhere and they have obviously spent a fortune making that boat as much like living on land as they could
Your boat is incredible! It’s the best I’ve seen for preparedness, safety, storage, and conveniences. It’s also really good looking. I’m jealous of the wonderful life you have out there. Seeing the world and spending so much time in beautiful places without having to suffer crowds. How great is that! I hope you’re all safe, happy, and still enjoying the adventure!
Many comments on the "luxury" of being able to afford a live aboard sailboat. Please consider that Brian is an engineer that started a tech company. He wasn't poor. He sold everything he owned and bought a used sailboat 10 years ago. That is a large, very high quality boat, but 10 years ago it was much less expensive than what it would cost today. Also, he does nearly all maintenance and repairs himself (he did find another sailor with refrigeration experience to rebuild his freezers). Over the past decade he has rebuilt and upgraded nearly every system on the boat. He spends days in cramped spaces doing precision maintenance on equipment most of us never even have to think about. There are costs and trade-offs to choosing this lifestyle.
@@babydriverx This boat cost about $250,000 on the used market today. It probably cost $350,000 ten years ago when he bought it. He's probably spent another $100,000+ in the last ten years on maintenance. As you saw in the video, they budget about $2500 per month for the three of them to live, including boat maintenance. When they first started out, he was living off savings with the expectation that once he got to New Zealand he would sell the boat and go back to work. That didn't happen. For the first four years he and the rest of the crew would stop sailing periodically and do odd jobs to replenish their savings so that they could go sailing again. Once the TH-cam channel started taking off they could make enough money to just sail. Now they have enough Patreon subscribers to make them at least $50,000 per month. So it was a long haul, and lots of hard work went into building the channel, but it paid off, and now they are the second most popular sailing VLOGer on youtube.
just wait until they get on dry land... there's sea sickness, and when you get used to the rocking and walk on solid ground, there's land sickness. people who live on boats, constantly being rocked all the time, will start to sway on solid ground, sometimes even making them physically sick.

@@TheWhaddeva I think based on the video he sold most of his possessions he needed on land including his house and bought a boat. He was not poor obviously but wasn't some rich guy either. Probably middle or upper middle class. With desire, careful preparation and hard work a lot of people can probably do this. But no one said it was easy and obviously it's not for everyone. That was not the point of my comment. But he deserves admiration for achieving what he wants. No matter how your own pursuit of happiness is defined you can learn from people like this. You don't have to live on the boat to learn from this. Just that you can have the courage to work hard to build your life the way you want it to be. That's the point.

@@emilywiebel3238 Yes, I think sailing is one of those things that you can't wing it with, and pick it up along the way. Although I have seen vlogs by people who say they'd never sailed before and they bought a boat and went for it. The people that seem to be getting a lot out of it as a lifestyle are all-round pretty competent people (esp mechanics for the engine), very practical and are invariably optimists.
@@johnmainwaring6556 optimism seems to be mandatory for anyone who wants to live on a sailboat and travel. On the way to explore how to do an ocean crossing I came along this video. This is very inspiring. Being a father of Neo 12 and Jutta 9 and just having done a 4 month trip to Asia, I know about the challenge of raising kids on the go. But the offer of opening their vision to the world is priceless. Nothing but respect for what you do.
@@addictivealternatives Was just about to say something similar. Sailing is an excellent team building exercise. Depending on one another to stay afloat (let alone move/navigate), you're gonna learn to appreciate their existence there alone.

A garden on the deck would be destroyed by salt water, but sealed aeroponics would be a simple, space saving integration for fresh greens and small veggies. A small water pump to run the sprayers and led lights are all the power consumption you'd have to deal with.
@ArmchairWarrior -- the "garden" on deck is the sea and corals they sail too. They do fish at times and they can always spear fish - though they do not show that very much.

@Fadammte Aggst - Brian, the owner, sold everything he owned to buy it. It’s not like he was super rich ten years ago. They all had to work odd jobs to be able to afford this lifestyle. The boat was used when he bought it. He also had to learn how to repair things himself to save money.

Here's a nice thing about a top-loading fridge. Cold air tends to stay low while hot air rises. That means when you open a top-loading fridge you don't lose all the cold like you do when you open a front opening fridge. So it takes less electricity to keep things cold.
Repeating myself here: It has disadvantages, too like not being able to pull out the right item at a glance or being unable to put stuff on top for long (once you want to open it that stuff has to move!)
Air has no lasting R value. This thing about top loaders being more efficient in this regard has been debunked. Front or top, choose based on needs, not misinformation about thermal properties.
@@marqgoldberg7454 No he's saying air doesn't really hold much cold/heat. In other words you could exchange all the cold air for warm air and it wouldn't matter much at all in the short term.
A top loader can hold more items. If you have shelves there's always a gap above your product to the next shelve. If you stack everything you get rid of all those gaps you would have from shelves. For me this would be the main factor to choose for a top loader but it all depends on what works best in your situation.
Great job! Checking back in after I've been away for awhile. Glad y'all are doing well and still sailing! Thanks for letting me live vicariously just a bit.

There are costs and trade-offs to choosing this lifestyle.
yeah and he gets to scuba dive when we are sitting in traffic.
Anyone could do this if they invested 4 years into preparation just like he did
How much did he invest in total, how do you reckon

@Fadammte Aggst - Brian, the owner, sold everything he owned to buy it. It’s not like he was super rich ten years ago. They all had to work odd jobs to be able to afford this lifestyle. The boat was used when he bought it. He also had to learn how to repair things himself to save money.
guess what will come handy when there boat gets lost at sea...that satellite comm system
Heartwarming, especially to an old man who's had pretty much his last adventure. God Speed to you good folks!
Doug, dont hold yourself back. Adventure comes in all kinds of shapes and sizes. :)
Doug. Hope you have another great adventure . Be blessed.
Hey Doug, Don't feel alone. I'm living my last adventure now (which is just living!). I will see you on the other side!
Amazing lifestyle. The baby is a game changer when she get older.
Exactly what I was thinking. It's a pity that they can't keep on like this for many years and they will eventually have to go to land.
Why not homeschool and travel?
Plenty of families have raised kids at all stages of development on boats.
I lived on a boat and home schooled for a decent part of my childhood. Glad I picked up some social skills by attending high school though haha
@@joen9080 well I dunno but that's my point more or less. It's very different for kids. Growing up only in a boat is different than being an adult that decides to live their lives in a boat. And yeah, you do need these social skills. But anyway, I hope that everything goes well for them and the kiddo!!!
Wonderful Share. We are sailors too and know a few people who had lived on board with their children. Now, these kids are grown up and are coast guard and sailors too. People commenting most likely have never spent a day let alone a week or month on a boat. I have spent months sailing and loved it. Keep it up, you are living a dream most people are too scared to imagine. Hope to see you in the North seas one day. Much love from Vancouver Island.
“sailing for the weekend” *weekend lasts 9 years*
Weekends are a tad longer in Sweeden.
Lol
Sounds like a damn kidnapping xD

Obviously good books
Im blowen away by the competence of this man. All the knowledge you need to sail + maintaining this home it seems impossible to me.
nah he probably messed up thousands of times. everythings a matter of practice.
He's a fellow software engineer, so he is a smartass
I traveled N America and Europe teaching skiing, hotel receptions in summer wherever I landed all in my 20’s. Loved every minute. If I have to do it all over again, this would be my dream. Good for you three, keep it up.
Incredible set of human beings. They have thought everything through.
❤️ family
Except for having a baby while they’re still traveling the world, I’d have waited
It took 10 years I'm sure they made a few mistakes
What an amazing, amazing story. Ive traveled (hitch hiked ) across two continents north and south and east and west in the 70s thru 90s. At 61 years old, my health will not allow me to quench my ever present wanderlust...hats off to you guys for chasing your dream!

You are awesome and very lucky to be alive through the 70s when people weren't a bunch of s*** heads I am jealous of that that would be so fun
Where do u live now???
@@jasrestery3463 It was a great era, for sure Jas. People trusted each other. Justice system was not a "for profit" corporation. Neighbors cared about each other. It was safe to hitch hike and explore the world. People talked to each other more face to face. I think innocence may have been lost with the advent of the internet, texting, and facebook. Thanks for replying Jas!
@@jasrestery3463 I live in Florida..on the west coast. Spend my time hiking, and swimming in the springs.
She: "We have a toaster which is a bit of a luxury"
Me: I don't have a Sailboat...
I thought she said “which uses a bit of electricity” haha
Golly, I have a sailboat but not a toaster!
They don't have a house.
@@JR-kv6ez They must don't like paying rent.😂
Jacob Perez me neither and no sailboat. Ill choose the boat everytime
Wow, what a wonderful and knot producing in my stomach life you live. I love you three, and love your story. You guys are well-balanced individuals and are really going to be teaching Sierra so many wonderful skills. She is so blessed as you guys are. Love you all. God bless every journey.
Hi Helen how are you?
I totally love this. Wife and I lived in a motorhome for 3 years and it was a great life. I don't have any sailing skills and we were working on land, so a boat was not going to work for us at that time. With the world getting crazier by the day, I think this life on the sea is very appealing. I would keep to low populated areas and avoid land as much as possible.
@@corywadedavis how can it possibly be debunked? Are you telling me he doesn't rise and cold doesn't go downtown?
@@marqgoldberg7454 No he's saying air doesn't really hold much cold/heat. In other words you could exchange all the cold air for warm air and it wouldn't matter much at all in the short term.
A top loader can hold more items. If you have shelves there's always a gap above your product to the next shelve. If you stack everything you get rid of all those gaps you would have from shelves. For me this would be the main factor to choose for a top loader but it all depends on what works best in your situation.
That induction stove and oven attached to a gimbal system really just blew my mind
Ikr? I was like... WOAH!!
Great job! Checking back in after I've been away for awhile. Glad y'all are doing well and still sailing! Thanks for letting me live vicariously just a bit.
They have everything you could want EXCEPT they don’t have any harpoons to fight krakens. Amateur mistake.
amateurs smh
Or Megalodon, or anything to counter a galleon now that I think about it
What do you mean? Krakens needs protecting from the cuteness of baby Sierra!
That’s what the baby is for
They would Also need swords to raid the coast og England

All that equipment needs maintenance though.
And you still have to have gasoline to run the compressor to fill the tanks. Maybe an electric compressor/solar, but it all still needs parts and maintenance.
@@ownerowner1850 He said he would need to run the generator to use the divecompressor, so i think its electric.
