I have practiced yoga off and on for decades including doing a teacher training. Since a back injury 2 years and a recent OP diagnosis I've been too frightened to do it properly - even moved into pilates (I'm hyperflexible). THIS is the first time I have felt safe and confident. Especially your instructions on twisting which I love and have been so scared of since diagnosis!!!! THANK YOU!
Dr Lisa, you are heaven sent! I have been practicing yoga for 20 years, and 12 months ago, I was advised that yoga would increase my risk of a spinal fracture. Oh how I have missed it! Thank you so much. I look forward to more... Namaste 🙏 x
same here thank you. I used to teach yoga decades ago and now osteopenia and mild compression fractures so have been afraid to do yoga. So this is getting me back into it safely with physical therapy as well. Some of the poses were challenging but I can see how much they can strengthen !
I love your Yoga. I have been trying Yoga, but the most instruction is too advanced and too hard for my body which is not flexible anymore. I can follow yours, can lose my tight body, and feel safe. I really appreciate you offering these wonderful instruction in TH-cam.
I’m so happy you are including yoga here😍. I am so grateful and get excited every time I do butterfly with my arms. I have experienced frozen shoulder twice (each arm) and it took a long time to regain movement . Very painful condition. I don’t take use of my arms for granted anymore. My biggest challenge is flexibility!
Thanks for your comment! I’m so glad you enjoyed the yoga video. And wow how powerful it is to know that your arms can move like they’re supposed to. Frozen shoulder is awful. I’m so glad you recovered. May you continue to be well.
Just found you. Second session. Love it. Have been doing yoga for years but was unsure of what I could and couldn’t do. I have osteoporosis and have had my first spinal fx. Reassured me and gave me a few new thoughts. God bless you.
Thank you Lisa…. This is a very nice yoga routine and I love your soothing voice. There are some moves I needed to modify - good thing I have my blocks and bolster. Thanks for sharing!
That was amazing! I am not a yoga person but I know how good it is for flexibility etc.. and I really loved this video. I will be adding it to my repertoire or your other videos a few times a week now. Thank you!
Dr. Lisa I just love you! I started doing yoga awhile ago because of a back injury and it is part of most of my days. This was a lovely morning practice for me. Thank you so much for all you are doing to keep us strong and flexible.
Hi Lisa : I have been practicing yoga for many years. With a recent osteoporosis diagnosis I was fearful to return to my mat. I want to thank you for this class and the confidence to continue my practice with modifications. At age 69 with both OA and OS I still want to be active and as pain free as possible to continue to experience all the joys life has to offer. Thank you so much for your guidance on this channel. Namaste 🙏 😊
That's what it's all about. Maintaining our vitality to do the things we love with the people we love! I'm so glad you enjoyed this session. I will be making more. Peace -lisa
Top of thr morning to you sunshine. 🌞 THANK YOU SO MUCH for doing these safe routines for us. I truly enjoyed all the workouts you have shared with us. I have been doing yoga and pilates for many years. I was devastated when I was advised not to do these practices due to facture risk. If you can please do pilates workouts. You're a wonderful and caring person. God bless. 🙏💖
I’m so glad that you enjoyed this video. Yoga is very meaningful for me also. I wish I could help you with Pilates, but I am not trained in Pilates. But I will do more yoga for you. Namaste.
Thank you! I'm glad you liked this. The yoga after breast cancer series is not necessarily OP safe.. The first video is VERy gentle but does have some cat/cow with spinal flexion. Cat and cow and some forward folds are in the series. But if you know what to avoid they are very nice videos
Yes!. When we look it there are three specific factors that we do in brick house bones that yoga supports. Strength, balance, and posture are all components that yoga can support that help reduce our risk for fracture. But yoga is also excellent at maintaining joint mobility and maintaining this mobility can be very supportive to our spine and allowing us to move into safe positions because we have enough motion in our hips, knees and ankles. Great question. I’m glad you like the video.
There are many Fishman versions on YT already. I teach my yoga for osteoporosis based on anatomy, kinesiology, posture, and the science of preventing fractures and falls. More than 12 poses available to use for those benefits. I like to create a variety of options for people to keep a yoga practice.
This was really a lovely practice, I too gave up my yoga practice due to fear, since my diagnosis of OP, I've lost so much flexibility etc, this felt good! Just one question, child's pose was one of my favorite poses, but avoided doing it, simply because of the pressure on the hips, and the rounding of the lumber spine, even though I have knees wide, are those a concern? Thank you.
I do a long spine version of childs pose, focusing on length, with the arms forward. I have not been taught any precaution on that pose for the hips. We need that hips stretch for our mobility.
Good question. I cannot think or any reason not to do "feet up the wall". Just be cautious getting into and out of the pose. Its a good restorative pose
There are no poses that are specifically good or bad for your discs. Movement that you can do without increasing your pain too much or worsening your symptoms are beneficial for recovery from disc injuries. Exercise should be adjusted to you and your phase of recovery. You and your PT can assess if this routine is right for you.
