Great info on what to include daily for beginning exercises for those of us newly diagnosed with osteoporosis.
I loved hearing your story, thank you so much! At age 62, I deal with so many issues with my back due to being in the military. Herniated discs, surgery, eventual osteoporosis. And since I receive my care at the VA, all I was ever told was “be careful, don’t hurt yourself”. I was given a list of don’ts, yet not told what I COULD safely do. It’s only been recently that their mindset has changed to providing PT for those of us that aren’t content with sitting on a scooter to get around. I so appreciate your workouts, your wise counsel. I know examining my diet is the next thing I need to tackle-pray for me, 😂
Thank you. I'm currently dealing with a painful sciatica flareup caused by L4-5 disc degeneration. Most of the time it's okay but every now and then it flares up and causes acute pain in my right groin. I eat a healthy whole plant food diet, do gentle yoga, walk a lot, and do strength training for osteoporosis. What's the best way to calm a flareup when it happens?

Thank you for sharing your story. I am 71 years young and have a similar story. I have been fairly active my whole life but 3 years ago I was in a car accident in which I broke my tibia bone. This incident changed my activity level for several months to almost a year. I went through several months of physical therapy and it helped. But, like you, I changed my eating habits, reduced processed foods and sugars. I grow a lot of my own food. Dexa scan 3 years ago showed osteopenia. I have been following you and your program for several months. No doubt, I am becoming stronger, healthier aand bolder. Thank you for being a very good teacher, physical therapist, and role model.

OMG! Txs for sharing! I have all of the challenges you have or had, except despite having to go to the ER with severe back pain and given morphine & other dangerous medications about 15yrs ago, by changing from SAD diet to Whole Foods Plant Exclusive, I have not had 1minute of pain in my back!!! I have degenerated discs L4 l5, Scoliosis, stenosis, bone resting on bone hip osteo, and use a cane maybe once every 2 months to offload weight when working long hours. Yes, I agree 100% you are what you eat & THINK. TXS AGAIN, for the message, we are NOT victims!!! Wishing you & yours a HEALTHY NEW YEAR GROWING BOLDER!!!

Thank you, Dr. Lisa. This gives me more hope. I have had fear ever since my doctor told me I have severe osteoporosis. She also told me I would die within a year if I fell. I was afraid to move!!!! I had a painful hemangioma in my neck, as well. My Endocrinologist won't do the blood tests that I ask for. She gave only.one and said that I wasn't losing bone YET. But, she wants to be the one to give me my DEXA in 2025. Your calm voice calms the storm of doubt and your instruction is superb. I am grateful that you are here. I want to make some big changes in the new year and simply improve everything that I am doing. Thank you, again.

I prefer a person who is more my age and understands what limitations I might have due to arthritis and osteoporosis. I was a Dance-PE major who when younger would teach classes, looking back now, without that understanding. Although I knew about body mechanics, etc. I did not have the bodily knowledge and experience that I think makes a difference. You are doing us such a service. Your workouts are just right and you are so clear about the focus, benefits and you are right there with us. Thank you!!
