    I'll listen to Ecstasy soon ! Recently, I picked up Rock n Roll Animal, The Blue Mask and Transformer by Mr. Reed.. New York or Magic and Loss might be a logical next choice for me. ( I have lots of LR Cds ) 🎵

    I agree with all these!! That Dylan album cover is kinda bizarre. Now that you mentioned a 'love triangle', that makes it even creepier. The Peter Murphy one is kinda neat though - minus his name, the back and the inside. LOL!! Love your Bad Record Covers!

    Glad to see you doing another bad record covers video! Why do bands/artists put together bad album covers on a good or excellent album? What I think of when I see bad album covers is don't spit on a cupcake and tell me it's frosting! Keep the series going, this always an enjoyable one!

    Ok Brian, I couldn’t resist, I went across to wiki and read the para….i wish I hadn’t 😫 Nice toilet discussion, but yes, seat down is the only way to go 😂 I personally don’t mind that Dylan artwork. Yes I always want Peter Murphy artwork to be dark and gothy, all Bela Lagosi-ish. J&MC yes hideous cover. Nice idea, I’m off now to make sure all our toilet seats are down. Mike

    Hi Brian! The more I watch your videos the more I admire your collection. The Canadian version of the Peter Murphy album agreed has a much better cover. I will not start my Lou Reed collection with Ecstasy based solely on the cover but glad to hear it is a good album so will ensure I pick it up at some point. Would be nice if they had an alternate Canadian cover for that one as well. I have a bunch of Dylan but not knocked out and loaded. I had zero flaming lips in my collection 2 weeks ago but I went nuts and purchased 4 over the past week so looking forward to listening to them. Jesus and Mary chain I only have psychocandy. Automatic, Darklands, Stoned and dethroned are personal grail for me. Great video!

      @EmbryonicRobot  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Shawn - It's really cool to hear that you got some Flaming Lips. Early Jesus and Mary Chain is fantastic, and the one I mentioned is not too bad at all. Some people give later. r Lou Reed a pass, but I think that period as a bit better than the 80s. Songs for Drella, Magic and Loss, Set the Twilight Reeling, and Ecstasy are all great, IMHO!

    I actually kind of like the Dylan cover. The song “Brownsville Girl” refers to the Gregory Peck movie The Gunfighter but the cover seems more in the style of his movie Duel In The Sun. The album title comes from the New Orleans r&b/blues song “Junco Partner” which I first heard by Professor Longhair and was later covered by The Clash.

    • @EmbryonicRobot
      @EmbryonicRobot  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I am fairly certain that haven't seen The Gunfighter or Duel in the Sun. I am 70-80 years behind in my movie watching 🙂 But, I do know the Clash's version of Junco Partner. I am up to date on some things! Thanks for the details 👍

    Some worthy entries there Brian. Ecstacy is one of the few Lou Reed lp's I still need to pick up. But, I'd argue that Sally Can't Dance is a much worse album cover! Will check out your previous entries. 😎🎶

    I think in most cases the artist has control over the packaging of their albums but this may only be true when the artist cares to be involved. As fame grows less time can be spent concerning input to their albums covers. Blind trust must play a factor as well or simply bad & immature taste in what looks good & not. I’m sure “shock appeal” must influence lots of decisions and of course the artists personality. Genres also tend to portray a certain “club mentality” in the artwork & album covers. Metal, industrial, new glam pop all like Satanic imagery or dark energy. Monsters 👹, evil images 😮, devil 😈 horns, blackened eyes, blood etc, all are designed for shock and to announce that “this is your music” not for the weak etc. The world’s longest rant lol. 😝

    • @EmbryonicRobot
      @EmbryonicRobot  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It seems that most death metal albums have similar unreadable fonts. Or, maybe that's black metal! Who knows? The “club mentality” is certainly correct. You can sometimes judge an album by it's cover 🙂 Morrissey had a vision for all Smiths covers, and I think that worked out well. That was an interesting rant 🙂

    That Jesus and Mary Chain cover never should have made it into production. Ugh. I don’t think anyone is curious on what’s going on in the Lou Reed cover. We know lol. I have definitely passed on records because of the cover. Have a great weekend Brian

    I'm not checking the wiki, but my guess is Lou Reed is imagining intimate time with his favorite person...himself. 😆Damage and Joy is a terrible cover; I am also bothered by the asymmetry. My most hated album covers are mostly terrible photoshopped ones from the late 90s and early 00s. Fun video, cheers Brian!

    The Lou Reed cover is a homage to a silent black-and-white film Warhol made in 1964. I bet you’ll never guess the title🤔The Jesus and Mary Chain cover is pretty awful.

    I’m a Lou Reed fan but don’t care for the later albums due to the vocals. Bob Dylan’s later albums are worse for the same reason. I think the Dylan cover is good. I never studied that Peter Murphy album but assumed it was puke on cover.

    • @EmbryonicRobot
      @EmbryonicRobot  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is very interesting because I like late Dylan and Reed and I never had any issues with the vocals. The only Dylan vocal I dislike is on Nashville Skyline. I can't even listen to that album. The Murphy cover does look like puke, now that you mention it 😳

  • @vinylwood
    @vinylwood 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I’m only a minor Lou Reed fan, bits & pieces at best but that Ecstasy cover gives me the feeling that I don’t want to touch it. I often wonder why artists do covers or the type of art they do on their products. I’ve noticed an increase in shock value over the yrs especially with newer artists. The other day I saw an album where a young man’s face was large on the front cover and his eyes were made to look removed with just black sockets left. Super ugly, creepy ,satanic and evil looking. Not sure who appreciated that ??

    • @EmbryonicRobot
      @EmbryonicRobot  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I always wonder who has the final say in album cover design. Maybe new artists have little say but for established artists, I assume they get to have control, which makes you wonder. The album cover you describe sounds awful!

    Why thank you for the kind words HP & also no thank you for having to think about Lou yet again. You find perverse pleasure in taunting me with that cover! I love the Flaming Lips polka dot toilet. It makes your home toilet seem very boring. Anyone who has lived with a lady the lid is always down if you want that living together situation to last. Yep Bob's cover is shit in a boring way. I don't have that record or any of his 80's records. J&MC's cover just looks like they'd completely run out of ideas. The worst cover of all time is Royal Trux's Sweet Sixteen. Also featuring a toilet. Considered yourself warned before you proceed in searching it out. That or the one of that metal dudes butthole. It can't be unseen once seen. HP the famous feather ruffler. Cheers...SMG

      @EmbryonicRobot  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I do not know what compelled me, but I looked up the Royal Trux album. Big mistake. What convinced that band that this was a good idea? The polka dot toilet seems quaint in comparison. I guess we are even now, but it could be a restless night thinking about that Royal Trux LP. Damn. I will try to avoid mentioning that Lou Reed album in future, if I can 🙂

    Have always disliked Reed's Ecstasy album cover. When I looked up the info on wiki, I disliked it even more. I didn't mind the Knocked Out Loaded cover, but was frustrated about the repeated image. It's just not interesting enough to be used for front and back. I certainly concur with all your choices here. That J and MC cover is horrendous.
