Hey Brian! Happy belated Thanksgiving. I do agree that having it a bit earlier is nice, as an American I don't know any different though lol. Loved hearing about the Toronto concert venue being filmed in. Those are such cool tidbits that are part of music history! Cheers and happy listening.
I have a big Queen video coming up and had been wondering where you stood with them. Now I know! Live Killers was the first live album I ever heard or owned, at the tender age of seven.
Hi Brian. You did a good job promoting that Lloyd Cole album. The Commotions 3 albums are all pretty good. If I had to choose one it would be Rattlesnakes. But I don't have any of his solo albums. You've convinced me that I should hunt some down. FYC always worth picking up. Cheers Mike 👍
The first Commotions record I owned was Easy Pieces, so I think I have a slight preference for it, just because it was first. But, Rattlesnakes is probably a better record. FYC only has two LPs, so I am happy to say that I have everything (if I exclude the singles)!
I prefer the first couple Queen albums, much like yourself. I think The Game was probably the last one I heard all the way through. Seems like I need to hear that Lloyd Cole record. Rockabilly records look cool; I remember when that Robert Gordon record came out - it got great reviews but I never got it. Lots of great finds - thanks for showing the records!
I've always thought I would get into Queen at some point...but I've been thinking that for 35 years and it hasn't happened yet. I think they are just going to stay a "greatest hits" band for me. I am also disturbed by the asymmetry of the Lloyd Cole album. Cheers Brian!
I was listening to Broken Social Scene, yesterday.. I might pass on their vinyl, as I have a lot on Cd. Metric is excellent ! Such a good Robert Gordon LP.. Lot's of energy, and great fun ✌
I hate buying records when I have them on CD, but I keep doing it, and sometimes the reverse, which is also odd. I need to stop that 🙂 I am really new to both Link and Robert Gordon. I still have lots to learn.
I'm in the same boat.. I really enjoy Stars and Broken Social Scene, but I need to not buy them on vinyl. It's difficult to draw the line.. Unless there's s good deal ! 😁
Hi Brian- dang you always find such fun stuff! I never jumped on the Metric bandwagon but that live Queen is SO good! I know OF Lloyd Cole but I have none; Eno is always interesting but I agree with Alex’s comment that he can be intimidating as his stuff is hit/miss with how accessible it is. That Japanese pressing of FYC is a great find! Well done, sir! (Oh, I’m still working on a response to your EP vids) Cheers-R
I am enjoying Live Killers more than I thought I would. You might like Cole, especially the Commotions stuff, like Rattlesnakes. I'm looking forward to your EP video! 🙂👍
Hey Brian, Yeah you got that right, doing more than only 1 x vinyl haul video per month can be interpreted as an indicator of spending too much money on records 😂Queen is THE band I grew up with when I was a pre-teen. I must've have listened to these songs from that time period late-70s like a zillion times. Agreed, surface noises on a Brian Eno record is prohibitive for me too. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving weekend 🙂Cheers, FVA
I guess I should hold them all back and make one very lengthy video instead!! 🙂 I think I liked Queen and then became indifferent and maybe I like them more now. I appreciate their earlier sound more now than I did way back when. BTW, I hope the meetup with Steve went well. Too bad I couldn't make it.
@@EmbryonicRobot It's funny you said that, because I share exactly the same feeling about Queen as I do have a soft spot for their early material too. It was a pleasure meeting him. Since he (still) wants to keep things discreet on TH-cam, I didn't publish any community post.
All interesting finds. I paused the video a couple of times to listen to Lloyd Cole and Link Wray, good stuff. I'll do a deeper dive after watching the video. It was also cool to see that Japanese pressing of that Young Cannibles album with the lyrics in English and Japanese. Thanks for sharing and happy belated CTD! Best, Steve
Hi Brian. More records just what you need 😅. I learned to appreciate Queens B Rapsody when I saw it on the Live Aid footage. Freddy put on a beautiful show. He really had a deep well of talent. Life cut short too soon. Good to see you are feeling much better.
Hey Brian, my introduction to that Metric album was when I got the CD in the jewel case for a Paramore album I bought off eBay. As for that live Queen. I just listened to that and you’re right. That metal-ish We Will Rock You is pretty awesome. Good stuff. Some I know and some I don’t, but will check out. Happy belated Thanksgiving
I'm not a fan of the two Queen songs you mentioned, but I do think "Bohemian Rhapsody" has a lot of merit. Brian Eno's music is always interesting. It always draws me in, whether it's the atmospheric qualities or the compositional style. I have that Link Wray album; it's autographed, and it's fantastic. I was late to the Link Wray party, but I'm glad I got in on it. You got a great price on the FYC album.
I think my view of "Bohemian Rhapsody" might be a result of having heard it too often. That has also happened with other songs too, which is a shame. I'm looking forward to having another listen to the Link Wray album.
Yup! you are addicted to record collecting like the rest of us ;) nice scores esp. the Queen Live and that Japanese copy of FYC. A classic record. Ive only ever owned it on CD. I have some more recent finds in TO to post soon too. got some good deals at Sonic Boom and BMV again (and traded in some stuff to offset the collection). Cheers man!
Hi Brian, I’m like you with Lloyd Cole I love the commotions Records and liked his first solo albums but then I’ve more or less ignored him for 30 years I look at his records on Amazon occasionally but they never seem to be discounted, I’m similar to you I buy records all the time I should do videos showing what I’ve bought🤷♂️ ..cheers 👍
I agree. I bough the Cole record on a discount, but the others are pricey. However, considering that the represses of The Blue Nile are over $70 each on Amazon, the Cole records seem affordable by comparison. $70 seems ridiculous for a record, so I will pass on those 😔
I didn't like Bohemian Rhapsody at first, but it's a song that grew up on me over the years. Too bad it became overplayed on radios here in Brazil. I don't think it was suppose to be a joke, just 4 guys trying to be original or just different from the pop rock norm of that era. I also prefer their early stuff for sure :)
I still haven't picked up any Metric even though I have downloaded a couple of tunes. Tell me how you really feel about "Bohemian Rhapsody." I kind of lost track of Lloyd Cole after his Music In A Foreign Language album. I need to check out some of his later recordings. I do have a compilation of Link Wray's early work, but would like to get more of his catalog. I do like Rockabilly but I don't have any Robert Gordon. I know that "Boppin' The Blues" is a Carl Perkins song and I know the song "Red Hot" from Bob Luman but I don't think his was the original version. I always liked Roland Gift's voice. Nice finds.
Ha ha. Bohemian Rhapsody! It might be a reaction to having heard it way too often. Robert Gordon and Link Wray are really new to me, but I think I like both, so far. You are right about Roland's voice. It has a real resonance or depth or something 🙂
I have the same love/hate relationship with Queen. We Are the Champions is just awful. I bought that live album when it first came out. May have been the first record I ever gave away. On the other hand, some of their songs I really love. '39 from A Night at the Opera, for example. Lloyd Cole is going to have to fix that spacing problem before I pick up that record. I don't have any Link Wray, but I love watching him play. So damn cool! Plus, Rumble was the only instrumental that was ever banned in the U.S. Can you imagine that? That's pretty badass. Great video, Brian. Now I'm off to look up the difference between spatter and splatter.
I was stunned when I heard that rumble was banned. I think people were way too sensitive back then. Now, we have profanity in so many songs and I recall the issues with Louie Louie. That seems so quaint now. I have to figure out splatter vs spatter, because I am sure it will come up again 🙂
Happy belated kanadisk ‘Høsttakkefest’ Brian 😊 Would love that Lloyd Cole. Very happy to see him mentioned in the VC and by North Americans 🤩 Nice finds! Fine Young Canibals, excellent album! Cheers from Morten
I wish the two holidays were spread out more here in the U.S. It’s such a busy stressful time of year because everything is so close together. That looks like it could be a Dexter soundtrack. I’m very limited in my Queen preferences. Robert Gordon can be fun!
Came for the USA V Canada 'Thanks giving' debate...stayed for the Vinyl. I only like one Queen song 'Cool Cat'...but what a song! That Top Boy series was pretty decent & fairly brutal. I wouldnt put it on the same level as The Wire..which IMO was fantastic. I think a lightweight finds tag could take the VC by storm.
I have never heard 'Cool Cat', but I suppose I should 🙂 I may dip into Top Boy to see what it is like. I was advised to keep the subtitles on, but I really think I should try without. After all, my dad was born in Glasgow lived in Southampton for years, so I hope I am ready for it. Lightweight vinyl tag! That is, in fact, not a bad idea. I do now remember one record I bought, and it is certainly lightweight 🙂
I watched a Stylus Meets Vinyl video, and then I watched Jack the Music guy who mentioned three of the same albums as were in the SMV video. But he also talked about Bohemian Rhapsody and he said that you don’t like the song. Now I’m watching your video and… I think this chain concept I was exploring has spilt over into VC channel videos. By the way, if you say spatter and splatter too much you might sputter and stutter. So beware!
Stylus Meets Vinyl to Jack and then to me. Music really is a journey. Jack has a good memory, since he shot that video before my latest. He must have remembered my comment from ages ago. You may be on to something with this chain thing. I have a feeling splatter and spatter will come up in future 🙂
I streamed some Metric (unknown to me) and they sound great. Thanks for mentioning them! I do like Queen but I only have Queens greatest hits. I am not in a rush to own individual studio albums. Lloyd Cole is great, eventually I will pick up rattlesnakes first I believe. I feel the same about FYC would love to own that one if I can get a good price. Great buy!
Hi Shawn, I'm happy to hear that you liked what you heard from Metric .hey have a pretty big fan base up here and they have always made solid records 🙂
Are you familiar with Riverside (USA), The Blue Nile & The Trash Can Sinatras? Their albums have been reissued on vinyl. Check them out! Also, A Girl Called Eddy's debut album has been reissued!
I have been quietly searching records from the Blue Nile for a few years but, as you might image, they are impossible to find. I am very happy to hear that they have been reissued. I just looked them up on Amazon Canada and they are all over $70!! Maybe I can wait for a deal. That passes my upper limit by a lot. I remember the Trash Can Sinatras too. They were played on a radio station I used to listen too, and I recall liking them. Riverside and A Girl Called Eddy are new to me, but I will investigate. Thanks for the tips 👍
Is it possible that you can spend too much money on vinyl....that's a good question. And I agree, I love the timing of Canadian Thanksgiving over the date of that country down south. It's not spatter or splatter.....it's platter. "We Are the Champions/We Will Rock You" has been overplayed and that has diminished the overall album "News of the World", but that album is still great. I just have to tune those over-popular tracks out. Oh yeah, that Lloyd Cole guy...great stuff. How is that "On Pain" album (nevermind, you answered that). That OCD factor, that was the first thing I noticed too. I have a compilation of Lloyd Cole on CD that has some solo tracks on there, and I liked them just as much as The Commotions tracks. Oh man, I saw that "Top Boy" album just the other day at the Collector's Paradise record store, but I didn't have enough to pick it up at the time. I guess that's what I get for going in there on a "no-money" week. Link Wray is great, though I haven't heard either of those albums. And here's another goofy coincidence...I was just thinking about that FYC album earlier today, about 2 hours ago in fact.
I am sure I will be told if I spend too much money on records! Overplaying certainly killed a lot of awesome music. Sometimes, I hate the radio! I may be on a quest to find other Cole records, but that will add up! Speaking of over playing, the FYC album (or parts) was really overplayed. But, I am happy to have it now 🙂
I mentioned you didn't like queens bohemian rhapsody in my newest video and I wasn't sure if I was right but I was! I think you would understand that song better if you watch the movie of the same name there's a scene that describes it well.
You can't stand the two Queen songs I can't abide either....however Bohemian Rhapsody is a bone fide classic. Having been around and buying singles at the time, when BR came out its impact was incredible. I'm going to track down that Eno album.
I'm trying to remember if I have always hated Bohemian Rhapsody, and the fact is that there was a time when I liked it. So, it could be a case of over-exposure. Or, maybe my likes have shifted. I mean, musically, it's well done. I always got the sense that Freddie thought he could be an opera singer. Maybe he could have been!
Geez going out hard with anti-American Thanksgiving sentiment 😂 The two times I saw BSS Emily was in the band. I have a few early Metric CD's and they're good catchy indie pop. I only have the first Lloyd Cole & The Commotions first album. I love it so I don't know why I don't have the other 3. I can't keep up with Eno. Robert Gordon has perfect hair. I always like Link Wray whenever here him, but only have a comp of his early stuff. It's a pretty damn rockin' comp. FYC Johnny Won't You Come on Home or whatever it's called was a great single and then they had a hit with She Drives Me Crazy that drove me crazy. Onya HP.
A lot going on here! Many of us in the states have abandoned “Columbus Day” (even though I’m from Columbus lol) and celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day. And THERE is your Link Wray connection! In fact, a great documentary from 2017 called Rumble: the Indians Who Rocked the World looks at indigenous contributions to rock n roll throughout the 20th century and is very good. You’re welcome! The queen slander is hilarious. I don’t think I’ve seen more passion out of you than your hatred for bohemian rhapsody. You are right though that early queen is the best queen. I have never heard an Eno record in my life. He intimates me. But I want to learn. It’s time for you Eno ranking. It’s not lost on me that your Lou Reed ranking (my idea) has become one of your most viewed. I should get a percentage of the massive money you’re making from that. Miss you Brian!!
Cool. I was not aware of that documentary. It sounds intriguing. I try to keep an even keel, but things occasionally spill out. I have toned down my dislike of certain Queens songs, if you can believe it. Never heard an Eno record! Wow. An Eno ranking would be more complicated than you might imagine, but very interesting. First, you have the ambient vs vocal albums and then there are innumerable collaborations. My head is spinning even trying to conceptualize such a thing. I will add it to the list, but this could take a while. BTW, any percentage of zero is zero! 🙂
Brian, how did you watch Monday night football on a Sunday. Maybe you have some sort of Superpower? We talked awhile back, about my love of Paul Haines, Emily's father. I never bought a Queen album, but as a child, I had to have the 45 single of Bohemian Rhapsody. The B-side, ''I'm in love with my car'' is a throwaway track, but the hit song is still a fun listen and the production style of the track reminds me of 10 cc hits like, ''I'm Not In Love''. Okay Brian, ''we WON'T rock you', and thank God, Leonard Cohen never wrote a song titled, ''I'm NOT in love with my car''. I used to buy anything just because it was produced by Brian Eno, like the ''Laid'' cd by James. Eno is a true ''Renaissance Man'' , his influence on music and culture is remarkable. Link Wray's song, ''Rumble'' was banned from radio play, even though there are no offensive words. Gordon name-drops, Sanford Clark, I discovered Clark through his deep connection to Lee Hazelwood. It's splatter, like Mick says, ''my brain's been battered, splattered all over Manhattan''.
That was probably my bad syntax! We watched both Sunday Night Football and Monday Night Football (and Sunday afternoon football). Too much football. I remember the discussion of Paul Haines! I agree: Brian Eno is some sort of genius. I do recall reading that Rumble was banned. People were maybe a bit too sensitive back then. That would be a curious Leonard Cohen song! Splattered it is 👍
@@EmbryonicRobot Brian, I played the video 3 times and the 3rd viewing made me realize, it was a syntax issue. I forgot to erase that part of the comment. I hate Tuesdays, I mean, '' I hate Mondays''.
“We’re not a turkey household. We tend to do chicken”…”This second record is from a band I’m not a giant fan of”…”I find it kind of infantile”…”The fake operatic thing leaves me cold”…”I was a little bit worried about this. Do I really want to buy another record from his label?”…I have a couple of Link Wray albums, but not that first one. Nothing like a good cover of Rawhide! I do have the second Link album you showed. It’s straight up rockabilly. Not awesome, but quite listenable. I have only a CD copy of that FYC album. I’m also now firmly convinced there is a non-logo clothing store near you. 😂
I think you got all of the good quotes 🙂 I cooked a turkey twice in my life, and will never go back. Chicken forever! Also, chicken tastes better, IMHO. Rawhide will forever remind my of the Blues Brothers!
Hey Brian. Great snags. I love Metric and that album is killer. I have most of their catalogue on CD as well as Broken Social Scene. I love Emily Haines. Do you have her solo stuff? Her Album "Knives Don't Have Your Back" is killer, Here's a track off of it incase you don't know it... th-cam.com/video/N3dlIedysNk/w-d-xo.html I like Queen right up to Hot Spaces and beyond, then it becomes spotty with a song and there. On CD I own the catalogue, on vinyl up to Hot Spaces. Here's one of my fave songs from Sheer Heart Attack, that Roger sings... th-cam.com/video/9Bd3V82axhQ/w-d-xo.html It ends a bit abrupt because on the album it goes right into the next song. Love and own that Robert Gordon/Link Wray album. Cheers
Hi Bobby, I do know Emily's solo stuff. I have "Knives Don't Have Your Back," the "What Is Free To A Good Home?" mini album, and Choir Of The Mind. Knives is a favourite of mine. I listened to it way to much when it came out. That's a really great Roger song!
You may have a point on Canadian Thanksgiving. Columbus Day is starting to be called Indigenous People day. We're a divided nation now. Spatter vs. Splatter . . . hmmmmmmmmm . . . I think there is a difference. Don't quote me on that. I actually like everything Queen but I too tire of "Bohemian". There was a trend in the 90's where bands would mash their song titles, lyrics and thankyous all together without spaces or punctuation. I refuse to look at that. Drives me crazy. Kinda like the price on original Fine Young Cannibal pressings. Another quality batch of music. Cheers!
I would agree with this as well - not a song I would listen to anymore for years now. Maybe since Wayne's World. My latest fave by Queen is Dragon Attack on the Game! killer drums on that one and swagger. Reminds me of a good Billy Squire song.
Of course you like the Canadian thanksgiving better than U.S. shocker! The Nationalist Grey Shirted Embryonic speaks again. I can’t believe you even bought that Boyd (?) Cole album with the track listing so poorly put together. Love the pretentious review you read of the album. I picture that guy sipping overpriced wine that he was told was sublime while wearing a cardigan. I think I remember you talking about the poor sound on the Brian Eno album before. Glad this one is good. I like all three of those Queen songs but they have definitely been played out. I’m pretty sure BR is supposed to be tongue in cheek. I know Link Wray too. Nice. FYC is a very misleading band name. Much like the ultra boring Barenaked Ladies. But I’m sure they’re a fine group of people. But unless you’re eating people on stage, I refuse to go to your shows. You have been doing a lot of vinyl finds lately. Have you taken a second job at the Canadian Tourism Department for extra cash?
Canada for the Thanksgiving win! You can be thankful that I don't own a grey cardigan (or any cardigans for that matter). But, now that you mention it, drinking a glass of wine while wearing a cardigan on TH-cam might net me a few subscribers. I will have to consider it. I recall being disappointed when I first saw photos of the Barenaked Ladies. But, the name did get them banned from a New Year's Eve concert here in 1991. I agree about the misleading FYC name and so many others, like The Eagles. I'd like a second job, but with all of the record buying and videos, I don't have time!

Football, chicken dinner and tunes sounds like a good thanksgiving.

Happy belated kanadisk ‘Høsttakkefest’ Brian 😊
Would love that Lloyd Cole. Very happy to see him mentioned in the VC and by North Americans 🤩
Nice finds! Fine Young Canibals, excellent album!
Cheers from Morten
I am on a quest for the Lloyd Cole records I ignored!
@@EmbryonicRobot A noble quest.
I wish the two holidays were spread out more here in the U.S. It’s such a busy stressful time of year because everything is so close together. That looks like it could be a Dexter soundtrack. I’m very limited in my Queen preferences. Robert Gordon can be fun!
Canada wins this Thanksgiving battle! I feel the same way about Queen 🙂
@@EmbryonicRobot Oh, I hope you didn't get the norovirus!
Ha ha. Me too!
It's possible that Bohemian Rhapsody suffers from having heard it way too often. I will watch that film someday . . .
Onya HP.
Eno may be too prolific, especially when you consider all of the collabs. Even so, The Gizz may catch up with him. I wish I had perfect hair 🧑🦰
@@EmbryonicRobot I just wish I had hair perfect or not
@@benrankins4446 I'll be there soon 😔

@@michaelvalentini4869 I should have reviewed my video three times before posting, because once was clearly not enough!

I like Queen right up to Hot Spaces and beyond, then it becomes spotty with a song and there. On CD I own the catalogue, on vinyl up to Hot Spaces. Here's one of my fave songs from Sheer Heart Attack, that Roger sings...
th-cam.com/video/9Bd3V82axhQ/w-d-xo.html
It ends a bit abrupt because on the album it goes right into the next song.
Cheers!
Divisions are everywhere. It will be a very interesting election on Nov 5th! I'll be watching. I was very happy with the FYC! Sounds great too 🙂
I don't think I've heard metric. Will have to check it out. Bohemian rhapsody is one of those songs that got played way too much. Tired of it
Yes, Bohemian Rhapsody was certainly played way too much! Metric is solid 🙂
I would agree with this as well - not a song I would listen to anymore for years now. Maybe since Wayne's World. My latest fave by Queen is Dragon Attack on the Game! killer drums on that one and swagger. Reminds me of a good Billy Squire song.
Dragon Attack is great, and it maybe better than Another One Bites the Dust. But, again, Another One Bites the Dust was probably overplayed too.
@@EmbryonicRobot I like you Brian😊
