I saw Ian McCullough at a small club doing an acoustic set a few years ago - he drank whisky in between songs and spent most of the gig telling jokes and doing impressions….. - and it was brilliant 🎉❤
Hey, thanks for stopping by! I have them in Discogs, but they are mixed in with CDs and cassettes, etc., so I am not exactly sure how many there are. I should figure it. out! One day, perhaps...
Im just so amazed at your wall of vinyl. Just amazing. I think record prices are ridiculous today. Im looking at clearance sales or thrift shops or the 5 dollar bin. Except for morrisey , and velvet underground, I’m not familiar with the bands you have shown. They do sound interesting.
Prices are crazy. On the other hand, when I do see great prices, I am less critical and maybe buy things that I should have done more research on! But, if you wait, it will be snatched up by someone else. Why did we choose such an expensive hobby? 🙂
Yes, agreed. It could be that the local jurisdictions are afraid to tax the people to the proper amount (fearing an election loss), so they scrape together funds by different means. Hey, I am not expert, but this is kind of insanity 🙂
I've got a few Great Lake Swimmers CDs. Like you, I found them a bit boring at first, but I grew to really like them. That's interesting that the newer album is a big change for them in style, I'll have to check it out. Sandro Perri was originally a member of that band (which apparently is from Wainfleet, ON) and now records solo projects for Constellation Records. I've heard some good things about that PiL album, it's on my endless want-list. I have been anxious to show this interesting record I got that has a completely unexpected link to Morrissey. You probably already know about it, but I thought about you when I bought it and wondered if you knew about it. Anyway, you'll have to wait to see what it is lol. I'm only familiar with a couple of Vampire Weekends albums, I have a lot of catching up to do with them. Very very awesome VU boxset, very jealous over that one. Awesome deals on everything, that's the only way to get a lot of the newer records anymore, wait for them to come on sale. Thanks again for th^e shout-out, you are quite awesome. Congrats big time on the over 1000 subs!!!/""Suzie keep stepping on my keyboard leaving behind &weird characters that I have to delete, so I'll sign off now LOL
I have one Sandro Perri record, which I really enjoy (when I remember to play it). I either didn't know or forgot that he was once in Great Lake Swimmers. I am curious as to what that Moz-related record is. Thanks for teh congrats, Mike. It took a while, but now the pressure is off 🙂 Suzie has added a little je ne sais quoi to your comment!
@@EmbryonicRobot It's appropriate that you used a bit of French there since I often call her Suzette. She has that attitude sometimes...snooty but deserving of her snootiness (is that a word). I often give her her way and she allows me to pet her when she feels charitable
Hi Brian. You're getting good at finding bargains. I would have picked up PIL and Ian McCulloch. Always good to see Sloan! I bought 'The Complete Matrix Tapes' for £30 in 2016. The packaging was uninspiring, but the performances are wonderful, with Lou Reed and Sterling Morrison at their absolute peak. Are you looking forward to Light In The Attic's 'Why Don't You Smile Now: Lou Reed At Pickwick Records 1964-1965'? I'll be getting it on CD.
Hi Carl, I had only just recently read about the new Lou Reed archival release from Light in the Attic. It does sound tempting! I am have heard The Ostrich before, but probably none of the rest. I will take a wait and see approach, or maybe get your review first 🙂 So, I am a firm maybe. I'm looking forward to having a listen to the VU box.
@@EmbryonicRobot You'll absolutely love 'Matrix Tapes'! David Fricke (who did the liner notes for 'Matrix Tapes') has written a brilliant review of the forthcoming LITA release in Mojo, which has fired me up.
Hi Brian, some fantastic buys there! I got that indies exclusive of the new VW album too. It’s such a great album, but like you said, the lyric sheet is pretty annoying. Need to give that new Fontaines DC a listen, but that microsoft paint cover is putting me off. Starbuster is a cool song… sounds like their going for an almost Kasabian baggy sound on that track. Lovely VU boxset. I’ll check out the channels you mentioned. Congratulations on reaching 1000 subs… very well deserved! 🎉
Your videos in which you extolled the virtues of the Vampire Weekend record prompted me to finally get it. I'm glad I did. I have the others so I am not sure what took me so long. Thanks for the congrats. I never thought I would ever reach 1K. It's been a great journey 🙂
Hi Brian I think I shied away from the Ian McCulloch due to the price. Candleland I also desire quite a bit as well. Excellent pick up! Gang of Four / PIL two bands I love but have yet to pull the trigger on an album. That Morrissey record looks great, biogenetic wax is a new one to me. I know Sloane is on my want list but honestly I can’t remember what they sound like. I will refresh myself. I’ll subscribe to those channels you mentioned. Great velvet underground box set.
Hi Shawn - I got lucky this month with some choice finds and great prices. From what I have seen of your collection, I think you might like Gang of Four and PiL (I have been wrong before, though). The Morrissey record is great fun!
Hi Brian $45 Canadian is about £25 UK. Album prices over here are pushing £30+ at the moment. The latest Fontaines DC is different from their previous albums but who wants to listen to a band that never evolves. I really like the new one and don't find the cover disturbing. Nice to see you attempt an unboxing. Cheers Mike
Hi Mike - £30! Yikes. I like the direction Fontaines DC are going in. It's great to see them experimenting a bit. I can't compete with PC31 on unboxings!
I Love the Bunnymen but have never bought a solo Ian, I must rectify. Autotune…..yuk! Don’t blame you skipping that track. I love Go4 but not sure about Content, I have it, but have never been able to take to that one. Welcome the Penge….fantastic song and album. I saw them on that tour and they were excellent. Yes, the Morrissey live album needs to be in my collection. Hideous Fontaines album cover absolutely agree…..why?! but strong album. Really Nice VU boxset Brian + another 20% off, great pick up. Mike
Solo Ian is not bad at all! I can recommend. The VU box is great so far. I just listened to the first record and the recording is excellent and very high quality. That was a good pick up for sure 🙂
Hi Brian. Just checking in with yourself as not seen you in a while busy busy here will explain in a video shortly. Morrissey just played my hometown earlier this year he remains controversial though not as much as in the states I think his fans here take what he says with a pinch of salt. My, you have been busy too. Seen you interacting with UK VC a fair bit. All the best, Martin.
Hi Martin - Nice to hear from you. I often wonder if Morrissey is just trying to get a reaction. Who knows? I do like UK VC channels 🙂 I'm looking forward to your next video 👍
PiL album artwork looks great. I'd like to hear that Ian McCullough record. Wow, Fontaines DC album cover is one of the worst album covers I've ever seen. That Vampire Weekend poster with lyrics is like the one in The Beatles album - too big and unhandy to actually read the words. Sloan record looks cool - very exclusive. I got that VU Matrix box a year or so ago - I listened to it again just last week. I think it's really excellent - I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Thanks for showing the records!
Oh I forgot, youtubes frustration with me telling them most of their adds are irrelevant has led to a lot of German adds and it totally derailed me, I was going to say, TILLYKKE MED DE 1000 ABONNENTER BRIAN! 🇨🇦🥳🇨🇦
German ads would be strange to me. Sometimes ads on US sites (like CNN) show up in French for me. I suppose they are making some assumptions. . . Thanks for the 100 congrats,. You will not be far behind 🙂
Hi Brian (Bryan? Bryon..emBRYONic)? Another video that shows our tastes are comparable- love that PiL album (and pretty much all PiL, too), I need that Morrissey live album (fortunately affordable on Amz) and that new Fontaines DC will easily make my top 10 for 2024 (despite that horrid cover art) 😆👍
The Brits spell it Bryan, but your are right - it's Brian. One guy calls me Byron. So close! I think the Fontaines will make my top 10 as well. They keep churning out great music 👍
“Well that’s unfortunate”…”You can stick around or depart, whatever you like”…”Click subscribe, you might enjoy it”…Like me you have the fondest music memories of the 80s. I like Echo & The Bunnymen but have not tried Ian Mcculoch solo stuff somehow. I need to rectify that listening situation….”In fact the first CD I had from them I found a bit boring”…I’ve been streaming Broken Social Scene for years but haven’t picked up any LPs. Maybe soon. “I do not ever want to hear that song again “…”That song is not going to grow on me”…PC31 will approve of that PIL purchase. “There’s always a healthy dose of humor in the music. There’s some profanity”…”I’m kind of like the guy that would buy the next Morrissey record”…Welll done on the chemistry breakdown of the vinyl. “Next is a record I should’ve had by now, but never did”…”This is the so called unboxing portion. It’s not really an unboxing “….✌️
Somehow, my statements seem better when I read them back from your transcriptions. It's like they are now part of the public discourse, and to see them in print is eye-opening and maybe even revealing. You may like Broken Social Scene. 80s music for ever!!! (Well, good 80s music for ever) 🙂
The price of fame is subjective. Basquiat was a hugely, famous artist in the 80's and early 90's. By the late 90's and early 00's, his prices dropped dramatically. Why, why, why? No worries though. His art is valued highly again. Bio-vinyl is interesting. I'm wondering how archival it is. The Gang of Four record is good and exciting 😀. Vampire Weekend was ridiculously popular in the U.S. for about a year. They've never put out a bad record. Sloan! Yes! Great effing band! Grossly ignored during the alt-rock days. On pins and needles! What did you pay for "Matrix"? 😅 Good show!
Once again some interesting finds Brian. I have that Romance album on hold right now actually. Don’t know much about them but my local store owner says it’s a must. I also found a Morrissey album, South Paw. Never bump into that one but got lucky last wk. It’s ok, Morrissey is Morrissey. I noticed now in our current state of affairs every time Morrissey is talked about on the VC there seems to be the need to distance ones self & remark on his politics. Of course Ted Nugent gets the same treatment but worse. Shame that only celebrities who spout the left leaning propaganda talking points seem to be socially acceptable. Morrissey is a gay man in Britain who just happens to think conservatively and has realistic concerns about the LGBTQ agenda and mass migration in his country. Why don’t video makers say the same of Taylor Swift and her political and male bashing rants. Or how about Neil Young who has made enormous money in songs complaining about many a President or Big Corp. Neil has a Spotify hissy fit over Joe Rogans free speech until it dawns on him how much $$$ he’s losing. He also churns out an album a month, all rehashed material but no one says he’s greedy or hypocritical. Double standards every where. Only those that go against the “correct think” need be mentioned as such. Oh well I’m old & tired lol. Hey crazy mondo VU box set. Thats a lot of VU. Take care, until next video.
Yes, point well taken, which is why I try not to say anything political in my videos. And, on the issue of Morrissey, I am not well informed about what he has really said and have only seen the headlines, which is really not enough to make any judgements. I continue to be a fan! It may take me some time to make it though the VU box, but I will do it 👍
@@EmbryonicRobot No Brian u are not political in your vids, if any one is it’s me. I truly have watched these “I’m not agreeing with him”comments on every VC vid which shows Morrissey or sometimes even the Smiths. It’s nothing u did just my observation. I watch some interview with M & some Brit podcaster, about a yr ago now. M had lots to say in an intelligent well informed way & a non left stance. He too has lived through much better days. He is now thrown in to the same Transphob pile as J K Rowling. Oh well this is our world now. Cheers 🍻
HP, New York’s trolling you! I’ll stick around for the unboxing 👍 I’m so jealous of those thrift blokes. I never have any luck. I only know Echo’s 80’s stuff. Haven’t delved into later or solo stuff. John Simm is a UK actor. $45…welcome to Australia! Man imagine how many records you’d own if you got all the BSS & side projects. I saw them live twice. Great live. There’s some auto tune on the new Cavester, but used well. I like Content too 👍 I only go as far as the late 80’s with PIL. I got one of their cds from maybe 10 or more years ago & tbh I do not remember it at all. Just say it HP…Moz is a knob. Love his stuff, but there’s no way around it. My Fontaines newie is in the mail. You really seemed distressed by the cover though 😂 See I don’t like the Vampire Weekend cover. Reminds me of going to work. Good band shot on the Sloan album. I don’t know how many record inserts & box sets books that I think I’ll read that one day. I never do. VU played on my birthday! I’ve heard some very dodgy VU live recordings so I normally baulk, but this looks pretty nice. Their 3rd record is nearly my favourite after VU & Nico of course. Cheers…KOS
I have found some awesome things in thrift shops, but not recently. The well has dried up. The flippers have taken over. Maybe people are selling to stores now. I'd like a good score now just for old times sake. I haven't heard the new Cave record yet. I am waiting for your review! If the Vampire Weekend LP reminds you of going to work you are taking some scary transit! As for Moz, I only really read the headlines. I should be better informed. A couple of people have said positive things about the VU box. I have yet to listen to it. I will soon, though!
Everybody is talking about the Fontaines album. I agree, the cover is horrendous. I streamed some of it and it just did not register with me. No sure what I am missing when it comes to this album. I paid full price for that PIL album, now I’m so disappointed, I should have waited. So this is a unboxing that is not an unboxing, so confusing. I got that VU box, it is really good I hope you like extended Sister Ray lol
I am surprised that you didn't connect with the new Fontaines record. I love it. Maybe you need the vinyl experience! I am looking forward to listening to the VU box, I do love a bit of Sister Ray 👍
I've added that PIL album to my wish list, ready to pull the trigger once I've sampled a track or two online. As for Morrissey, I find I'm respecting him more the longer he's a contrarian. I usually do my best to separate the artist from his/her politics, but I give Mozza a pass because he's not party political. In my book, there's always room for an artist who asks challenging questions, and refuses to be pigeon-holed, and Morrissey qualifies. On the other hand, I love early Billy Bragg, who was never shy about his politics. 🤷🏻♂️
To be honest, I have read lots of Morrissey headlines, but have never followed up with what he actually said, so I shouldn't really comment on his politics! He is certainly a contrarian. I also love Billy! I've even met and got to talk to him three times 🙂
Echo and the Bunneymen and Psychedelic Furs are both favorites of mine with great and unique vocals. I have every PiL album except the last one. I should get it but I want to get away from buying records just because I have all their others. Did you mention the Velvet Underground price. If so, I missed it.

Thanks, Rob. It took a while, but it's is good to finally reach the 1k threshold 🙂 It has been a good experience so far.
I saw Ian McCullough at a small club doing an acoustic set a few years ago - he drank whisky in between songs and spent most of the gig telling jokes and doing impressions….. - and it was brilliant 🎉❤
So, maybe all of that whiskey is why his voice is a bit rough or seasoned now . . .
What an insane wall of records!! Have you ever managed to count them? Must be two thousand at least.
Shout out from Melbourne Australia.
Except for morrisey , and velvet underground,
I’m not familiar with the bands you have shown. They do sound interesting.
Prices are crazy. On the other hand, when I do see great prices, I am less critical and maybe buy things that I should have done more research on! But, if you wait, it will be snatched up by someone else. Why did we choose such an expensive hobby? 🙂
@@EmbryonicRobot I know!right?!
Paying tolls on roads that were built with tax payer money should be against the law.
Yes, agreed. It could be that the local jurisdictions are afraid to tax the people to the proper amount (fearing an election loss), so they scrape together funds by different means. Hey, I am not expert, but this is kind of insanity 🙂
Don’t pay the FerryTollman etc - nice finds 🎉🎉
Too late; I already paid 😦
Suzette. I knew a Suzette once! Suzie is a good cat name.
@@carltweed942 I'll check that out. Thanks!
I am relieved to hear that the VU box is good. I haven't heard it yet. That Fontaines record may produce a nightmare tonight!
@@EmbryonicRobot Thank you Brian 😊
All good points! After the 20% discount, I paid $176 CDN, which I think is about $130 USD. That seemed like a deal to me 🙂
Once again some interesting finds Brian.
@@EmbryonicRobot I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on the VU box. That's a lot of live VU. I'd break it up a bit myself.
I've just listened to the first LP. It is fabulous and very well recoded. So far, I'd say it's excellent 👍
@@EmbryonicRobot Oh dear that's not what I want to hear...well I do want to hear it. My wallet probably doesn't want anything to do with it though.
That's is probably true, but you should get it anyway. The VC are just enablers and this whole enterprise is probably the quickest way to bankruptcy 🙂
I keep seeing that Morrissey live album every lol but way to expensive!
I can't remember what I paid, but it was probably too much 🙂
Fantastic box set congratulations 👏.
It was meant for you 😊.
Is it native Torontonian or Toronton? Both sound right 😊.
Happy listening Brian
Toronton does sound legit, but it is most certainly Torontonian. I wish I know why! Someone might know...
I didn't say but it was $176 CND, which is about $130 US. I tend to end up being a completist, which is irritating and expensive and maybe dumb!
Lydon went MAGA so it's a no for him
This is new information to me. I haven't paid any attention to Lydon's politics.
