    In 2013 I visited Ukraine. I rented a one room apartment near the city center of Odessa for $45 a night for a week, but the exchange rate was 8 grivna to the dollar then. I stayed at the Slavutych hotel in Kiev for a week, and it was about the same price daily too. Slavutych was a 3 star hotel. Food in supermarkets was very cheap. Food at restaurants which cater to tourists was higher priced.

    Yeah it was in the United States but I lived in dormitory for several years. It was crowded but wasn't that bad. The biggest con was lack of privacy and very limited room, not much room for personal belongings. Also, restrictions on what you can do in the dorm (no drinking or smoking, for example). The big pro, however, was it was very easy to make friends and do things together/ hang out together. I have both good and bad memories about dormitory years, but there are more good memories.

    Many university students live together in apartments near campus and they divide the cost of the rent and the bills, many of them become vegetarian because they can't buy meat or fish, but the most important thing for students is internet, we can't live without internet hahaha.

    For people with a little higher standard of living- Ukraine is a haven. If you have 6-10K$/month to spend (depending where- cities only) on living costs- you can live like a oligarch. But if you're short on cash and want good food for your money, here's a lifehack: find out where the best shawarma place is in your city. (In Dnepropetrovsk it's "Turetskaya Shawarma" in the Avtovokzal. Pick up a litre of grapefruit beer from More Pivo and dig in: you're welcome.)

    When I think of Japan, Canada, the US or Australia, the cost of living is much higher than in Ukraine for foreign students. I found Britain an expensive place to be a tourist when I was there, with the high pound (relative to most currencies) a big factor.

    Thank you so much for your wonderful videos Olga! Do you happen to know about any international consortia that have Ukrainian programs? There doesn't seem to be many. I'd love the opportunity to study in Kyiv, or Kharkiv, but it seems that most consortia are interested with Russia, not so much Ukraine. Do you have any advice for a US student trying to gain admission to a Ukrainian school? This might be a good idea for your blog.

      just what will you do with ukrainian diploma in USA? They will not accept it

    • @ahern380
      @ahern380 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Olga Reznikova Study abroad advisors will usually review the classes you want to register for in the foreign institution and tell you if the credits are "equivalent" to any requirements you need for your US degree. You don't study there to get a Ukrainian degree, you go to take classes that will fufill requirements for your US degree.

    I currently live in Ukraine and i hate it. So difficult to get a place to stay or they will over price and try to cheat you. if they cant cheat you they will tell you to live. And this is happening in kiev. You call to get a place and someone tells you they dont want foreigners in their house. Can you imagine that. And not just once but all the time. And it is so wild spread that you hardly get a place. But they want to go to usa and uk and live like its normal. Imagine trying to get a place in Uk and someone everytime they tell you no foreigners allowed. Wont that be crazy?

    Nice video description, I have a friend that lives in Kanevskaya and she told me that with $10 her family & her can eat for a whole week. M question to you is would you say that's true, how far is it from Kiev?

    • @Olga_Reznikova
      @Olga_Reznikova  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Borreguito Torices I don't know where is kanevskaya... Yes, it's true, you can eat with 10$ whole week, but it depends what you eat)) For example, I spend 10$ every day in shop.
      You know, nobady in Ukraine is hungry. Even with very law salary, high quality products cost expensive, but law quality products cost cheap.

    • @alwaysforever213

      1400 UAH or something like that. It's 55$, If devide it into 22 working days, it's 2,5$)
      Yes, it's not so much..... but it's minimum...
      This minimum has people who work in state organization and establishements.. If you work in privat company, you have much more)))

    Advice*. If u want to visit or study chose liviv if u want to live in a place that resamples the EU. Kiev is also modern and nice, Odessa for tourism. And that’s it don’t go anywhere else, all other places r full of corruption and the worst education especially Kharkiv, if u want cheap nearly free beautiful girls and alcohol that is cheaper than bottled water (REALLY) sure go for it but for education and making money u better off going to Somalia or North Korea.

    Given that the average salary in Ukraine is less than 350$ how are the flats in microdistricts so expensive for rent (I assume you have to pay for utilities as well on top of the 350). Is there a big income inequality betwean places like Kiev and smaller citys? How do the average Ukrainain participates in the rent market, do Ukrainian people rent flats a lot at all?

    • @_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-

      Having multiple generations in a single household is likely more common than it is in the west, and it's possible that working under the table is more common which wouldn't show up in official average income statistics.

      But firstly I would like to recommend you find some friends in Ukraine. Maybe they will allow you to live in their apartments. Anyway, if you will walk around on your own probably you'll be ripped off everywhere. Many people are poor here so they won't loose a chance to earn more from the foreigners. So watchout. Find your kinda "guide'. Buy stuff in chain supermarkets, it's safer and they have the same price for citizens and foreign tourists.

  • @makORmalonek

    Is it really from 50 dollars per month in the dorms? I know you said you didn't know exactly but I am asking because in Russia I paid about 10 dollars per month. And I assumed (probably wrongly) Russia would be more expensive. I mean, most students in my country, the Czech Rep. manage to live quite comfortably on about 300 dollars per mont total and I thought in my country the expenses would be much bigger than in Ukraine.

    • @Olga_Reznikova

    any chance you can reveal to me the price of whiskey and cigarettes? over here in canada its outrageously overpriced. so i guess you can assume id like to spend my college years where boozing a little isnt going to break the bank

      I remember a small bottle of local vodka was about a dollar in the supermarket.

      Good whiskey are mostly imported from the other countries, so the price probably the same, as in Canada. Like 0.5 L bottle of Jack Daniels costs about 14$. You can find cheaper propositions but I don't recommend you to drink that bootleg moonshine bullshit or whatever, if you don't want to die. Box of cigarettes (20pcs) costs 0.5-1$.

    Pryvit, thanks for the interesting video. I' m just curious about how It works in other countries, and Ukraine is one of it. For example, just to talk and compare, how is an average espresso coffee, a normal pizza, a liter of fuel, a bottle of water 1.5l, an average meal at restaurant etc? (please, don't get mad on answering all of it, they are just examples to explain what I'm talking about). I'm also curious about the average salary of a normal, for example, worker in a factory, a nurse etc. Have a nice day :D

      +Jon J The food in Ukraine is AMAZING. You won't need food from US or Europe. I lived in west Ukraine for 3 years and I think I went to Macdonalds in L'viv twice.
