Tesla is not a perfect company. But a lot of people made a lot of dumb comments when this truck came out about it not being able to go offroad. Tesla disclosed that there were parts of the software that were coming, among them the locking diffs and some off-road modes. Now it's a very heavy truck with 16 inches of ground clearance and probably 4 out of 10 rated tires for off road. And it did fine.
Hey did you know the cast aluminum frame where the hitch is attached breaks off. So much for being an actual truck. This is what happens when you have an idiot “engineer” who thinks he knows how to design something make a dumb piece of crap that can’t do one of the primary goals of a truck…tow.
Jen is a brilliant addition to the team.
Couldn't agree more.
The truth is, this is pretty impressive despite all the hate for the vehicle/Musk.
Yeah I didn't expect it to want to work.
While I don't think it's a good idea to have your vehicle drive itself on a trail or dirt road, it is a good test.
Tesla engineers are very capable!
We'll recognize this after the election. Right now its still all orange man bad stuff.
Impressive? It disengaged every time the road got slightly bumpy.
@@TroySavary Yes. I never said perfect.
MORE! Watching FSD go into places it probably hasn’t seen before is pretty cool.
Thank you for watching.

Cool vid and cybertruck content!
Thank you for the kind words.
I have a Cybertruck, it's SO fun to off-road in off-road mode!
Congratulations 👍
Great video - ignore the many idiotic comments
Such as this one?
@@elde667 How is the comment idiotic 💀
I’ve now had a chance to drive a CT twice, including today. I used FSD on the highway and local roads in SLC and was literally wondering how it would do on dirt roads, etc (having been down in Escalante this weekend in my Jeep on roads that had me thinking about a CT). I have a Model S with FSD, so I’m pretty familiar with the system (and like it very much), but didn’t want to take it on Hole in the Rock Rd or Hell’s Backbone - although being able to chill on the highway there and back would have been nice. The CT is really much better than I expected and could have easily handled those dirt roads from what I’m seeing. I still think the slow-speed steering is a bit twitchy, but the option to use the CT as a back-up battery for my house is pretty compelling in an of itself. I think it was a mistake to not include a driver’s screen and the center screen tilt feature at this price, but it really is some impressive technology overall. I still like your wrap as well and think the wrapped ones I’ve seen around here look much better than the stainless. Seem to be a lot of haters in these comments, but I’ll probably get one to replace my Model S at some point.
Well, this is the biggest challenge you could give FSD. Considering that it was just released for the Cybertruck and that obviously no other Tesla has driven on such trails, the neural net has only had the opportunity to train on very limited data in shadow mode. The Cybertruck was released just a year ago, and most users don't go on trails. As for LiDAR - it wouldn’t change anything. The cameras see all the rocks, and FSD remembers them. It’s a matter of training, not sensors.
Yes this is why I think carmera is better than lidar BC you can take it anywhere no mapping needed tesla fsd works like how a human dose eyes/cameras and a brain so it thinks while it drives
There are plenty of videos of Model 3's almost crashing into things because their cameras don't detect it. A camera is not good at depth perception and comprehending object permanence. Which is why all Tesla's are only lvl2 autonomous driving. While plenty of lvl 3+ systems exist and they all have radar and/or lidar.
@@mcsike7264that's not how lidar works at all, it doesn't require mapping.
Additionally you cannot compare a camera, no matter how advanced, to the human eye. Human depth perception and understanding of object permanence cannot be mimicked by cameras alone.
@@yissibiiyte a waymo crashed into one of those small food robots that was crossing the road and a tesla in that same situation stopped and let it pasted hmm seems like tesla is right on this one tesla is only l2 bc you have to pay attention only works on premaped roads tesla can work anywhere even on grass and dirt roads tell me a self driving tech that can do that ill wait
@@yissibiiyte V13 disagree with you
Welcome Jen! Enjoyed this video, hope you get some new offroad tyres and a spare soon.
Driving in the clouds is amazing! It is impressive that the self driving did as much as it did. Quite a software/machine learning feat.
I think Jen is a great addition to your company ......
Thank you for the feedback!
8:30 is due to the wash boarding and traction control system over correcting which intern throws off the what the FSD stack considers safe for its limits. I see this a lot on gravel roads or when I push the system in slippery / icy conditions.
Honestly can’t believe the FSD did the dirt road. Remarkable
thats why cameras are better than lidar can take the car anywhere no mapping needed tesla fsd function like we humans do eyes and a brain so it thinks while it drives by using it 8eyes/cameras to see

Second video I’ve watched with Jen. 👍 Good vibes from her. Nice to see a woman’s perspective
I’m watching this video in my Tesla with FSD on , and the video sounds keep tripping me out like it’s my own car making those warning ⚠️ sounds . 😂😂.
Jen is a beautiful addition to tfl!! Her presence definitely seems knowledgeable and she will add a good perspective fellas. Jen, just don't say "right" after every statement, and never say easy peasy lemon, you know the rest....😂😂
Andre I give you a lot of credit, I still get terrified using FSD on the freeways. Tesla needs to train their Optimus robot to act as a spotter. Imagine that, FSD driving a Cybertruck truck on a technical trail with the Tesla Optimus robot outside doing spotting.
TFL needs to do a video with the cyber truck about possibly carrying a gas powered generator in the back and gas to see if it would be effective way to emergency charge the truck if used off road extended. Would need to determine the size of generator needed and how much fuel to carry to make it work in a real world situation.
Also, any trailer they tow should have a generator to “bring its own range”
They've already done that with other EVs and showed that it's viable.
They also charged an EV with a Ford F150 with the 7kw generator system; I believe it was towing the EV at the time as well.
@@fuzzy3440I remember that. They used the pro power onboard to charge the car, drive it onto the trailer, then charge it while driving.
With solar in the roof and on the bed cover, you could just leave the truck for a couple days, go back out to it and drive it away.
A horse could carry you over a trail like that - full self driving! No LIDAR.. lol
The only problem with horses is that they shit a lot! A lot of shit!!
8:39 It literally said "keep your hands on the wheel" not eyes, which he ignored for the whole video. Then each time it said take over it even showed a pic of hands on the wheel. Plus he kept looking down at the screen instead imof the road
The shuttle movement that you made with your fingers to activate the lockers got me 😂😂😂
This made me think about adding FSD to my Model Y. The Cybertruck too once it's available for $49k. 😂
Great video. You guys make unique content with a balanced pov. 👌
Are we so lazy that we cant drive ourselves? Tech is making us dumber, not smarter..
My high school teacher used to scold us for being lazy. Don't use calculators when you can do mental maths. You can never be a good accountant unless you multiply 0.08 with 2400 mentally. She was wrong
@11abhishek11 she wasn't wrong. People are lazy and tech only makes us even lazier. I can't imagine what this world will look like in 20yrs. No one will know how drive or do basic math.
Great video. Did you use the “thors lightning” to reinflate? If so, how did you plug it in? Looks like it only comes with 12V connection to a battery. That wouldn’t work on the CT. I’ve been looking for a good compressor that can use the outlets in the bed. Thanks.
Welcome to the Team Jen!
That truck is pretty amazing…straight up
Liked and Subscribed for JAnnnn!!
What a great addition to the Team!
Please note the version of FSD software when reviewing it.
Still crazy seeing a car drive itself 🤯
yes, i was wondering who she was! Hopefully she does great at TFL!
I'll never pay monthly for a feature that the vendor can turn off as "punishment" ... why people tolerate this type of behavior from companies is beyond me.
OnStar pioneered that feature over a decade ago in what they call "your car". Police call them all the time so Onstar can remotely kill the engine, lock the doors, and roll up the windows.
Comment removal is terrible now... But have you looked into OnStar?
Beauty is you don’t have to pay for FSD if you don’t want it. So you don’t, and live happily without it.
So your cellphone has no carrier?
No worries, you'll miss out so much in life
Its good that you test this because now tesla can use the data to improve the performance in this condition
If you switch the settings to control the speed yourself, you can make it go slower and it would most probably do it better.
This capability has never been seen before! Very amazing! We need to see more of this! Look what this vehicle turned into. Started with no lockers and no self driving and now its the best in its class!
The new co-host needs to defrost a little bit more, I think she didn't add much of her own oppinion. When talking, she mostly repeated talking points. But I think she will get there! Its only day 2.
Now.... take it over Black Bear pass! 🤣🙃
20:35 shouldve kept it in the lower suspension setting to allow the suspension to do its job when going up the climb.
Have you guys got your wheel covers yet? The trucks at my local dealership have them
This is definitely not what the autopilot / full-self driving was designed to do.
The newest FSD 12.5+ is extremely impressive. I use mine every day even in busy big city traffic and it’s truly a delight. In the newest FSD, it no longer nags you to constantly touch the steering wheel to check for paying attention. Did an hour drive the other day and didn’t have to touch the steering wheel once. I could care less about the shock factor of Elon..I love seeing an American car manufacturer with leading the way and being successful.
yeah, i've had people ask me why i drive a car made by such a bad man....I'm like 'really?' when you stuff a hot dog in your mouth do you think about whether the hot dog CEO is a bad man?
You drove an hour and didn't have to touch the steering wheel? This is exactly what's wrong with the world. How lazy are you? Or are such a bad driver that the car needs to drive so you don't get too anxious?
@@krover01Do you buy fresh vegetables every morning? Do you use automobiles instead of walking?

Welcome to the channel Jen.❤
On off road mode on a bumpy road you SHOULD have the option to limit the speed.
Who would want to take their +100k luxury space truck off-roading 😅? I work too hard for my truck, just to push it to its limits and F it up. 😂 9:19
Tesla is definitely way ahead of the competition in terms of self driving. Very impressive.
Cool tech, but I would go without the FSD as I love driving off road in my 2 door JK with 35's. I would be leery about getting a flat however, as the Cybertruck does not have a spare. Nice to see a lady added to the staff, instead of a bunch of pot bellied old timers...lol Cheers.
This is insane
Put it in offroad mode dad!!
i think fsd asked you to take over becuase of those bumbs , which makes the cameras very unstable
Wonder if it would FSD in offroad mode where you can maintain speed by 0.5mph increments... I thought I had seen a video by OOS that the accelerator has variable mapping..
Let the sad simping begin
It went from beta to supervised.
Ok Andre. All I half to say Bohanka ls. AUTONOMOUS driving is kinda cool. . Can't what for the van though.
So, you want to take all the fun out of driving off-road?
To be fair, they’re simply replacing the fun with terror. 😂
It wouldn't be any fun at all. But, let's say that you're out there and are injured and unable to drive. If your vehicle could get you to a hospital without your intervention, that would be a pretty useful feature.
Idk, they seemed to of being having fun lol.
The amount of time spent staring at the screen to drop the pin and engage the auto-drive certainly qualifies for “distracted driving”.
You don’t even need a route for full self driving, you can activate it anytime. It will just stay on that road until it ends.
8:55 should have reduced speed offset. Traction loss would kick you out.
forget range anxiety , how about we put "deactivation of a feature" anxiety in the mix.
If FSD feels too much traction control it will disengage for safety. It's definitely the barrier set by Tesla because of some limitations
I have 0 desire to use even cruise control offroad, but it's cool they don't just instantly disable it off of pavement
16:00 you folks know that you can *lower* the max speed limit to 5 or whatever you want right?!?
TESLA SUCKS. NOT A REAL TRUCK. RETURNED MINE WHEN BROKE AFTER 2 WEEKS.
Doesnt the truck have fog lights??
2:49 okay i get it, take ur hands off the wheel of a vehicle that claims self driving and it will force you out of self drive and then what does it start slowing down does it pull over? All because of, A. You get distracted, B. You might be impaired (bad), C. You have a medical condition unbeknownst to you and you pass out/seizure. All these possibilities im sure they've looked at and is why i will not buying a "self driving" vehicle that can deside to take you head on into traffic or somthing of that nature. Now dont get me wrong, I do think these vehicles are going to be almost completely autonomous BUt......i dont want be part of that statistic that helps find the recalls on these lol (fight club) p.s these companies have alot more money than then.
You should have let Jen drive I think that would have been more fun to watch
There’s an “off-road mode” that you guys didn’t take advantage of. Didn’t turn it on at all.
You were using the tech meant to drive on road, on asphalt.
That’s why it went “too fast” on parts of the trail.
Seriously I have bought 6 Teslas and currently drive 4 - I could still tech these guys many things with not only FSD but also Tesla Cybertruck in general. They even have an ex Tesla employee and they sound as though they are newbs to Tesla. I mean come on! 😅 I was literally yelling at the screen so this do that pay attention to the road not the screen etc etc… no experience but then again it did show how newbs would handle an off road cybertruck.
Hmm getting the cyber truck this late in the game maybe not so bad
Here’s the deal, who wants a truck to drive for them off-road? What’s the fun in that??? 🤷🏽♂️
Plenty of dirt roads in North America and not just off-roading trails. Also, if you have a medical emergency one day on the trails, you might be thankful your truck can get you back to help or service. Look at FSD as a tool to use when and if you want.
@@TFD31 I had not thought of the medical emergency angle. I snapped my acl in left leg and had to drive my 6-speed M3 to the doctor. It worked out but wasn't pretty on the shifts when my knee tried to do the same.
It's just a test. It's not like anybody is gonna be doing that every time they go off road.
Just let it drive on real road.
They are just testing it for fun, can't you tell?
I wouldn't ever use FSD offroad because it would take away the fun of offroading... This sure is interesting though.
well per usual, andre doesn't let anyone else talk.
And it’s in beta…but you knew that!
The guy is looking away toooooo long, so Tesla turns off the auto drive
Why did Jen leave Tesla for TFL?
I don't think a small shop pays more with better benefits. 🤔
TFL turn into a silent hill 2 episode
Choppy steering on tight turns is due to lack of visibility methinks
I guess the sausage party is over 😂
Seriously tho, welcome Jen. It’s cool to see a fresh face and probably some different points of view.
I have self driving feature its called low gear first gear on my manual transmission and a allignment.
Do you have a po box to send fan mail to?

3:07 so I can summons the car like Uber and pick me up and drive me home?
Not currently but Texas will be the first state it will happen. 2025/2026. FSD is driving 90% of my rides. It will even pull over to the curb of the house address in the navigation like a uber would. FSD V13 is coming out soon so it will be interesting to see the step change in interventions.
(Actually) Smart Summon is currently limited to private parking lots and doesn't work on public roads.
Actually there are some fun things in the pipeline beyond summon. I'm waiting for the car to come with essentially Randy Probst's "perfect line" knowledge, known for every track. You drive the car on track and it can show you how to improve your apex, where to extend your late braking, how much slower you were in those esses. The car becomes your own racing coach and can interact with you when you desire or take you on an incredible hot lap to illustrate.
good thing you didn't run into any sharks out there..
Video would've been about 100x better with Jen driving and Andre doing a whole bunch more listening than dominating the conversation.
Also: kinda douchey driving not pulling over and letting the normal driver behind you pass when you wanted to crawl up that paved road at 20 mph.
I wouldn't call this off road. My van can transverse these roads just fine.
Thats crazy awesome
what exactly is awesome?!
With 4 electric motors installed, there would be no need for locking differentials...
That's what Rivian does. It works great on more "fun" off-road driving (sliding it around in the sand, rallying, etc)... But if you're doing stuff where you're going uphill and slipping or get a wheel in the air, they work nowhere near as good as a physical locker.
We want Nathan!
Going from 40 to 30 psi is literally changing nothing . These guys should know this. And you're worried since you don't have a spare, we'll airing down (properly) prevents possible issues. Lol you arent "popping a bead" eve at 15psi which is where you should be. Those are 35" tires and you think 30psi will do anything lol
24 psi is my pressure for my E rated 35s driving on road. 😂

I can’t see vision only ever being acceptable in fog or glare. Rather ironic given SF bay fog.
How do humans do it?
@@11abhishek11 they crash in limited visibility situations all the time. FSD has to do better. RN FSD/AP craps out in situations where I have no problem seeing. There is a reason other companies use LIDAR & radar.
Prime example: when parking vision only jumps all around saying I have 26”, 22” 26”, 25” before hitting an object. If it can’t judge distances for parking at low speeds with perfect visibility, how it it going to avoid potholes or washouts?
Vision let me put the nose into a snowbank without ever telling me I was getting close. Unacceptable.
