    I LOVE my Neo 2s! So VERSATILE! Couple cuddling on the couch w/warm fire glow lighting them, Family in the kitchen replicating household lighting now color temperature balanced, low light, night shots, long exposure & light painting, plus video set-ups too in such a small form factor. Dustin, I love your real world reviews, I’ve been a sub for a looong time.

    I have the original NEO, and bought a NEO2 when it was first launched. I was initially very disappointed with the lack of power in flash mode, but once you appreciate what it can do it is a great addition to my kit. Although it does not have the power of a speed light it does add fill and a nice catch light. Also the HSS mode and no recycle time are great for rapid fire. Yes it is expensive but used appropriately it is a good light. a good balanced review Dustin.

      Thank you. Those that haven’t used one have a hard time ‘getting’ how useful a light like this can be.

    Hello from Kyiv Ukraine. Rotolights are very good. I own a Aeos and a Neo 2. It must be made clear these lights will not over power the sun. It is not the intention. They produce a very high quality soft light. I use them for fill light for portraits indoor/outdoor in the day light and for night portraits they not can be beaten. People need to understand that at this time they do not replace flash/strobes in all situations . If you want to over power the sun or balance ambient with flash then use a strobe or 2 AD200s on a BD2 mount. In all other situations the Rotolights are excellent and particularly for night time shoots in all situations. It is another tool in your kit for certain applications.

    i love my Rotolight neos i have 2 original & 1 Neo2 . i use them for my run & gun portrait model shoots in flash mode & and continious mode . i love the fact they can give you the WB / colour temperature you want (unlike conventional flash)... Ive got some cool images with the neo 2 faking sunlight at sunset when the sun has dissapeared behind the clouds . British made & very well made indeed..their customer service is first class from this family run company.

    I use the Aeos and it’s fantastic. The remote trigger is icing on the cake. Love the versatility. Also use a LitraPro which is so small and powerful I’m still amazed by it.
    Together and with my strobes I can pretty much handle anything thrown at me.

    Another nice use is to set up a dramatic scene, when ambient light is low. Because the Neos are so small, it’s fun, easy, and quick to create a charming scene in a nook or cranny of a wedding venue. Thus creating a totally different look.

    Dustin thanks for more balanced review, is it possible to get more detailed walkthrough of how to exactly use this with Elinchrome trigger - especially for photography as a flash. And how to get the exposure correctly as there is always light on and at the same time there is flash using trigger. I’ve so far not seen anyone show how to use it especially for photography purpose.

    Thanks in advance:)

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Strobe output. The runtime of the LED output will obviously be vastly extended by using the V mount.

    • @newtondelmar4416
      @newtondelmar4416 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DustinAbbottTWI ...Of course but that wasn't my question...it seems that the actual POWER output of the FLASH/STROBE is doubled when using the V-mount batt...is that also true for the "video light/modeling light" feature???...In other words, if I'm shooting video at f:4.0 with the onboard AA batteries and I switch to the V-mount...will I be able to shoot at f:5.6 from the same distance???

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As I said, I think the answer to that is no. It can draw additional power for brighter output for strobing, but not for fixed lighting.

    • @Rotolight
      @Rotolight 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DustinAbbottTWI Hi Newton, just to clarify that Dustin is correct in his estimation. When plugged into a high power source (e.g. v-mount battery or mains power) the flash power will be up to 500% of the continuous output, but the output of the continuous light itself won't change based on which power source you're using. Hope that clears it up for you!

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could be, though I'm hard pressed to think of how it would work better than a standard strobe/flash. That's a sensitive lighting situation, as you don't want to overpower the ambient lighting

    ANY long term photographer can admit that technology for the past 30 years has NOT changed astronomically in the world of photo L I G H T I N G. So here we have this, but is it big change? NO, it is what I call exorbitant. Exorbitant: by definition, a flashy bling bling that cost a few bucks to manufacture but cost 300 US Dollars to purchase one single NEO II. I would love to have one, but no thanks. The biggest reason why I would like one is at wedding receptions. That, and its cute little $100 barn door that cost .48 cents to manufacture. It is ideal to use it close up on certain things so you can get a better shot with a diffused lighting look. This keeps people from seeing a second person with me walk around with a bulky soft box. So in a nut shell I would use it mostly for appearance on the set, then appearance in my exposure.

      Dustin Abbott Dustin I have the upmost respect for your work and high integrity of your reviews. I can’t say the same for others. Therefore I take those other photographer’s comments ...not with a grain, but a boulder of salt. Facts are the facts, for the amount of light produced by these lights, the price, IMO, is way too high. I’m better off just lighting a few candles
