  • Join Sony Artisan of Imagery and Rotolight Master of Light Jason Lanier for a presentation that he conducted for a group of photographers at Samy's Camera in Pasadena, California where he does a live tethered shooting using the Rotolight Neo 2 showing images unedited, lightroom developed and photoshopped. PLEASE THUMBS UP, SHARE, LEAVE A COMMENT AND SUBSCRIBE!!
THIS IS PART 5 OF THE PRESENTATION FROM SAMY'S in September 2017.
Lots of Jason's videos focus on the shooting side of photography. But when he gives presentations, even ones that are designed for lighting, he will always delve into the business aspect of photography so photographers can figure out how to take the gear and lessons they learn and apply them to good use so they can pursue their dreams.
We thank you for watching and invite you to stick around and watch the other parts of this presentation that will be coming soon. We also invite you to watch some of Jason's other videos while you're here. Don't forget to subscribe and click on notifications so you're updated every time a new video is released!
    Thanks,
    Jason Lanier Photography

Late 2017, although it works great using the Godox X1T-F for Fuji and pair that with the X1R-N and you have HSS with NEO 2 now

Hi Jason, I picked up my NEO 2 today - WOW!!!! The results are unbelievable!! WHAT a tool!
I did some practice shots for my real estate work in my living room (36 m2 = 387 ft2) I was amazed how well the flash function lit the room up. Where it really scores is for portrait work. I shot a couple of frames of the salesman in the shop where I purchased same. The colours straight out of the camera, an original A7 are incredible. I am more than pleased with the results.
I do have a very BIG problem though.
Perhaps you can assist with a source. WHERE on earth can I buy a sync cable? Micro usb on one end for the A7 and a 3.5 mm on the other end to go into the flash port of the NEO. I have looked everywhere online but to no avail. Even Calumet where I purchased my lamp didn't have one.
I have a press conference to photograph on Thursday and will use the NEO on camera. Need a sync cable urgently!! If I cannot find a cable I'll have to use my flash on camera instead. That would be a pity having spent the money on the NEO.

    Hi Jason,
Love BBF and love TTL and get good results consistently. That said, manual is better and more consistent if you have time (and sometimes I don't have an extra 5 seconds, seriously). Understand, my subjects move a lot and I shoot often (right at sunset) where conditions are changing quickly.
Still, I will take a look at this as well as the Aeos. The Aeos looks like it will be more appropriate in terms of power. Nothing to lose, if it doesn't work well, it goes back.

i have an important question please reply.
can i use neo2 to cover a large group of people from 4 to 9 people lined up at a wedding?
also what is the maximum watts power it gives in flash mode and continuous mode?

You’d need like two or three NEO 2’s for that and not in harsh light.

Hi Jason, this demo with the high ambient light was very convincing for the NEOS 2 as a portrait lamp. I shoot events, as a photojournalist I am active on the political scene. On the creative side I shoot business photography which includes portraits of staff members as well a real estate, both interior and exterior imaging.
My question is, if I purchased a pair of AEOS lights would these be sufficient to illuminate a 40 to 50 m2 (app 500 ft2) room?
Of course for this work a NEOS 2 would be of no use but the AEOS may suffice? I have never held or even seen an AEOS so I don't have a clue how good it really is. I don't want to order the AEOS dual kit and then find out I would have been better off sticking to my strobes.
What is your opinion on this matter?.
Regards Desmond, freelance photojournalist and photographer

LED doesn't need to charge a capacitor to flash. This is why there is no recycle time, and low power consumption.

Jason i shoot concerts in very small venues with horrible red/yellow/green light. My shots always look bad due to the artist looking green because of the light. Would you recommend the Neo II to get better light?

      Christopher Westen yes I would

    • @TinoSchulz1990

My recommendation: Talk to the band first(!). If they don´t want you to use flash > don´t use flash. I´m a professional musician and also photographer myself. And i get distracted by flash-lights, especially in small venues or clubs...

    • @christopherwesten6291
      @christopherwesten6291 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Tino Schulz of course just was very upset from the last concert i shot because the light was just so horrible all night long. Got maybe 5 good shots out of the night.

Rotolight neo 2 is good for video. It is not good for the photo.
Those who bought it think the same thing.
Those who doubt ... wait a little longer to see all the comments of the photographers.
    No commercial videos ....

Can you put the Neo 2 on camera and still use it to trigger the Aeos? They would be a great set up and an easy way to use 2 lights.

You're a good sales person I give you that :) But the photography business is a mad house now a days ... many are rushing to do weddings and whatever they can get their hands on ... just to make a living ... there's an average of 2,400,00 weddings annually... and about 114,000 actual pro photographers ... numbers are not right on point ... but there abouts ... So do the numbers .. you're talking about each pro photographer doing an average 21 to even maybe 30 weddings per year ... unless you work your butt off... all those other photographer sharks will take all the meat off the bone if you don't act fast enough ... Gear is good, Gear is important!! But without no work, there's no gear ... or you could buy the gear and pray you get enough work in order to at least break even ... I've been in the field of photography for a long time .. I've seen starving photographers and I've seen photographers just having it all :) I've spoken to a few photography schools and like you Jason I do try to help those that really love the craft ... Even though at times I tend to be very honest with what I teach when it comes to the business side of it .. LOL... many look like they just want to do something else after I'm done .. LOL!! I've followed your videos and I do like them ... very informative all around ... Many have asked me.. why do I do photography... My response has always been ... because I love to capture moments in time ... Sorry for the long comment :) ... Just got in a role .. hahah... but really, I do like your work and what you have to teach ... you can never stop learning .. no matter how much we already think we know .. there's always something new to learn ... I'll catch you on your other videos... Good form Master Chief...

Hate to say this, Jason was up selling at lousy product.
He was able to fool hundred of people.
Now the Neo2 took a deep dives from $400 to $250.00. Many are returning it back for refund.
Remember you have to buy a radio remote controller.

Buy the adorable ATG/ThruNite TN36 and you can really see the light, if you are a struggling /video/photographer. Under $300.00, the shear power turns the Neo 2 into the dark ages.
Your assistant will love hold the TruNite TN36 over the brick Neo2.
Noticed, Jason fooled people by not shooting at F8.0
Knocking ASA/ISO down to 100, good luck at F2.8.
