      It's like gay men in ancient greece could have sex with whoever because they had power, it's like how there's one rule for the rich and powerful and others for everyone else. Like how some politicians in the UK for example are making input to harder crackdowns on drugs yet they do drugs themselves or even one woman's husband owns a cannabis farm.

    "People have always had sexual freedom if they've had power and resources."
    All struggle is the class struggle. Money distances you from society's reprimands, because money and power are what control society in the first place. Civil rights and gay rights are inherently tied to the class struggle.

    • @valerieb4446
      @valerieb4446 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@valerieb4446 Just trying to drive that point home.

    • @Solidude4
      @Solidude4 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Well it's not true that 'all' struggle is related to class as factors like health, race, gender etc can still create obstacles for a person regardless of their class status. These factors still interconnect with class but class doesn't account for the entire struggle.

    • @lgbtorion
      @lgbtorion 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Juan Jimenez that’s not necessarily true. while I agree that class often plays a significant role in race, sexuality and gender oppression I don’t think you can historically argue that “all” struggle of marginalized people is solely about class. a great example of this would be how cis white gay people excluded trans people and poc in the beginning of the gay liberation movement. sylvia rivera was literally booed off stage at a pride event for speaking out against the white gays who were trying to erase trans people (mainly tpoc) from the movement even though they had always been a part of it and were often the ones taking most of the abuse. that wasn’t “all” about class that was about being able to hold power through white supremacy and choosing who gets to be liberated

    1:57 "You pick them because, a lot of the time, your family doesn't pick you."
    35 years in the life, and I am reduced to tears *here,* on this very spot. Bless you, and may love always light your way.
    (And BTW, this is why some of the loudest cheers at any Pride parade are for PFLAG. We, as LGBTQ, give everything in our lives for the sake of love. Why? Because we have to, because we *are* "born this way." And when you, as well - our parents and friends - choose love over hate and ignorance, and so choose to love *us* ... well, for many of us, that is love's greatest miracle. And we thank you for it with all our hearts.)

    I'm crying. I love watching videos like these because it's all so true and the LGBTQ+ community can sometimes be hypocritical towards its own members. We should all just be able to be ourselves, openly, and honestly, whether others understand it or not. Sometimes people can forget that and get judgemental. I really want everyone in our community to just accept each other like we want to be accepted. No racism, no sexism, no gatekeeping, no "you're doing it wrong". Just let people live.

    I recently rewatched the entirety of the original l word and I was honestly surprised by a lot of the blatantly transphobic, racist and biphobic things that were written. the show didn’t age well at all but I understand that it’s just a reflection of society and the culture at the time. max’s storyline in particular fucked up my perception of trans men and made me hesitant to admit that I was trans for a long time which sounds ridiculous but he was and unfortunately still is one of the only representations of trans men on tv so I’m honestly just glad that they seem to be being more inclusive and conscious this time around. when I first started watching the show I was maybe 10 or 11 years old and I identified as a lesbian, now I’m 22 and I identify as a bi/queer trans man. crazy how things change over time but it just goes to show you how important representation is

I just wanna be happy and healthy and I wanna find people to support me! Of course, I need to support myself too. People like you give me confidence to be myself. If I wanna date a woman or otherwise identifying person, I can. If I wanna be a guy for the day, I can. Thank you for making me feel loved!

Once I started expressing my exterior self more queerly, my inner self felt more confident. I am so proud to be part of such a diverse community and hope that in 50 years there will be every representation available (plus new and changing ones) in media, music, porn, art and commerce.

      @@apricot3998 Third Trans Masc NB person chiming in. Short answer? Yes. Trans and NB. Can't be a Trans Masculine nonbinary person if I'm not both things. Then I'd just be a trans person or a nonbinary person. (I'm aware it can get confusing as there are NB people who don't identify as trans and then some of us who do.)

      I’m sad the word bisexual wasn’t mentioned as well. I’m a young bisexual girl and I’m trying really hard to come to terms with that. I feel like there’s a lot of stigma around being a bisexual person, and I can’t stop questioning my sexuality because there is this vice in my head, this tiny internalized biphobia, telling me i have to be either lesbian or straight, I can’t love multiple genders. I always feel like I’m not gay enough for the community nor straight enough to fit in heteronormativity.

    Since there are already a bunch of mean comments: why do you take offence from this video? Honestly let people live their lives how they want and just because you’re not queer doesn’t make you any different from them. I’m a straight dude myself so I never faced the problems of coming out or discrimination for my sexuality (and chances are high that you were neither), but why would I hate on anybody who lives out what is right for him/her? Doesn’t everybody deserve the right to be fucking happy in this world? Just be proud of those people because they shared personal stories and they had to endure a lot of shit for living in a society where something not „normal“ is fraud upon. I respect everybody in this video and if anybody wants to fight me on this topic then go for it. A lot of you really need advice on empathy

    Can't wait for the new season.... It's driving me crazy.
    The only thing that bothers me about the LGBTQ community, which I do fall into (B) is all the added vocabulary. I think people are over-defining themselves, and it's more of a complication than anything else. That's why I was happy when people just started using 'queer' as an all-encompassing term. Nice, simple. The only thing I need to know about a person is (a) are they chill, or if I'm into them (b) are they into me?.

      I too love that queer has been reclaimed as an all-encompassing word, and I really like how it can be used to reference gender identity as well as sexual identity.
      But I know that labels have their uses too. If you find yourself not conforming to a lot of what your queer role models or friends do, it can feel alienating and confusing. So when you find that niche label, that small group of people who say 'omg me too!' it can be a real relief, a real lightbulb moment!
      I can technically fall under a bunch of more specific and obscure labels, I do in fact use many, and different ones depending on which context I am using them - and I 100% do NOT expect everyone or anyone to know those labels! That's fine! They're more for me than for other people; they help me understand and accept who I am.
      Whoa, sorry for the essay, but I thought I'd say, I hear you, I get it, but all these labels have a use, and they're important to some folks' self discovery :)

    • @lukusblack6442
      @lukusblack6442 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@charleston1789 I get you. A part of my issue is likely my own. I don't really identify in any sexuality category, and never have. Every label has caveats. lol
      I'm like a vegan who eats buffalo wings and bacon... actually,... that's closer to the truth than the analogy was meant to be...

    • @lgbtorion
      @lgbtorion 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I agree. the internet has created unnecessary micro identities that have just made sexuality and gender more confusing for people. LGBTQ is already inclusive enough for everyone and there is no need to further put oneself into a subcategory. I honestly blame tumblr and the asexual split attraction model

    • @TigerPrawn_
      @TigerPrawn_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used to hate boxes, mainly because I had a hard time finding the right one for me, but I've realised they're important to an extent so people can get visibility. but they also shouldn't define you to an extent that you feel trapped by them.
