Hi: I want to buy this camera next week, but don't want to rely on the auto focus for wildlife because a one in a million shot can be lost with auto focus not working 100% of the time. I have 2 previous head injuries and want to change the settings to Manual focus and use the rotating dial on top of the camera to manually focus. Can I do that? Thank you for answering my question when you can. Anyone else is welcome to offer me advice too.
It can capture RAW files... go to the Image Quality icon in the Q menu, then press the INFO button to bring up the options for RAW. Keep in mind this is not available in Auto or any scene modes.

Canon Decided Not to Offer a Hot Shoe Flash on the SX-70, as it was on its Previous SX Series, I Own the SX-50, to Me it was the Best Damn SX Series that Canon Put Out in 2012. 2. The Upgraded Features are Good, but how is the Lens & Photo Quality, is it Up to Par with Canons Big Brother D.S.L.R Cameras & the Show-off Camera Phones with it Quality Lenses? 3. What is the Battery Life on the SX-70? Because if Jane or Joe Blow Used the Built in Flash with the SX-70, it would Put Battery Drain on the SX-70, if the Built in Flash was Heavily Used, I Couldn't Use the SX-70 cause the Lack of a Hot Shoe, but I can Use a Slave Light, or Off Camera Flash W/Slave Capacity, but Still would Drain the Battery on the SX-70 if I Use the Built in Flash a Lot. 4. Still... the SX-70 Seems Like a Good Bridge Camera, the SX-60 wasn't Good, & the SX-50, that I've Owned Since February 2014 is Great, & was Well Reviewed & I Liked the Features Such as Color Accent, & Color Swap on the SX-50, which Wasn't Carried Over on the SX-60, & I Don't Understand the New Features on the SX-70? The Canon is the better choice for everyday use. It's smaller, lighter, has RAW image capture, 4K, mic jack, Bluetooth, faster bursts, wider-angle lens, higher resolution, etc. The P900 is cool but its only real advantages are the longer telephoto reach and built-in GPS.

The picture quality is nice, but the very long zoom (in a relatively compact camera) means the image sensor is quite small, so it's probably not the best option for *large* format prints. That being said, we shot some test pictures at full zoom, handheld, and they were nice and clear with decent detail, so you should be able to do 8x10s no problem.

I really don't want to have a dslr and all of the lens that I would need, out on a walk in the woods. You can't customize it. The Quick Control menu contains (in this order) AF Method, AF Operation, Drive Mode, Metering Mode, Image Quality, Movie Size, ISO, White Balance, Style Settings, Lighting Optimizer and Aspect Ratio. Available options change depending on the exposure mode you select.
I don't understand - it says X65. The old Canon Powershot SX60HS had that. And no hotshoe or external flash. What's the point? Sounds like marginal improvements. And what do you mean about the RAW files being SMALLER? Something fishy here This is DEFINITELY not an upgrade on the Canon Powershot SX60HS.
The significant upgrades are resolution (now 20MP), processing (now DIGIC 8), 4K video, full HD up to 120fps, faster burst rate, improved EVF, time lapse and improved image stabilization. So while the lens and LCD screen are unchanged, all those internal upgrades make the shooting experience better for both stills and video. Although we agree, the loss of the hotshoe is very disappointing. Regarding RAW, the SX70 offers Canon's newer CR3 file format, a compressed RAW file format. They started offering this last year with the EOS M50. You're welcome. No, the SX70HS has the same lens at the SX60HS, which tops out at f/3.4 at its widest focal length. Honestly, the SX60HS is a perfectly good, versatile camera, and if you felt the need to upgrade anything, I would just start with a small bounce flash so you can take nicer indoor photos. At least with the SX60HS you have that option.
@@cametacamera sorry to bother you again, but what's a BOUNCE FLASH? This sounds interesting because I do bird photography and every time I use the built - in flash I get a funny milky look in the birds eyes - is this bounce flash something that will work better and can you recommend a brand?
A bounce flash is simply an external flash that can be tilted so the light bounces off other surfaces instead of pointing directly at your subject. This works well indoors because most ceilings are white, and you get nice, diffused lighting instead of the harsh, direct light from the built-in flash on your camera. There are lots of brands and price ranges (see our selection here: bit.ly/2FHZYKv). Unfortunately this would not work outdoors with birds. Your best bet would be to shoot with natural light (no flash, unless you reallllly need it), and use a tripod to steady your camera at long range.

But... when it first came out in 2014 Canon enthusiasts were disappointed to find that there was no aperture improvement - i.e. no f2.8. Look, I love my Canon Powershot SX60HS but I think when I've got the cash to upgrade I'm going to go for the Nikon Coolpix P1000. I just get the feeling that Canon aren't keeping up with their R&D.
You can shoot in full HD at 120fps, which can be played back pretty slow, but the same low-resolution 240fps mode (Super Slow Motion) from the SX60 is gone.

The SX70 is a lot newer and offers a few additional features (see above). B700 is discontinued.

The picture quality is nice, but the very long zoom (in a relatively compact camera) means the image sensor is quite small, so it's probably not the best option for *large* format prints. That being said, we shot some test pictures at full zoom, handheld, and they were nice and clear with decent detail, so you should be able to do 8x10s no problem.
