  • This video is going over the layout of the Canon SX70. This is to help those who have purchased the camera, either to introduce them to the buttons and doors, or for someone who has already had the camera but needed a reminder. The more you know, the less you will feel intimidated with the available settings and features!

    You mentioned changing the Av to take a starburst shot. I've been told you can't achieve this effect on point-and-shoot cameras because they typically stop at f8 when f22 is recommended (at least for DSLR).

    • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great comment! With a f8 aperture it is still possible to get a sunburst, the light source just has to be peaking or rather small. It is tricky but it is possible!

    Hmmm havent heard of this camera before lol. I have several bridge cameras though. From a really cheap fujifilm to a Panasonic fz300 ( great for the money) and a sony rx10 iv probably the king of bridge cameras currently. But this seems solid for what it is. Good features for the money.

    • @Shutterbug101

    The actual size of the sensor is only
    4.55mm x 6.17mm. .44 inch. Yet they pack 20mp of pixels in it, but they are smaller pixels than a DSLR, so not as much information is collected. But it can still take some amazing pictures.

    Just bought a SX70 - I set the date yet took first picture and do not see the date on the picture. Also, I bought a new Canon SD 32 Card online - and after taking 3 pictures I see on the SX70 a note that card is full with only 3 shots. I formatted the card, and took 3 more pictures and same thing - after 3 pictures note on camera reads card full. Defective new card maybe not actual Canon OEM?

      The digital zoom option is in the menu, the first tab (shooting menu) and page 5. If it is grayed out, you may need to change your ratio size to 4:3 or you may only be able to shoot in JPEG. Canon has had an issue with this in other models as well.I hope this solves the issue!

The biggest differences are that the sx70 has a higher megapixel count for sharper images, the sx60 can take an external flash while the sx70 cannot, the sx70 is faster and has a higher continuous drive, the sx60 has HD video while the sx70 has 4K video and the sx70 has a mic port while the sx60 does not. i'm looking for this camera a bit but i'm a little afraid of some questions, does this camera can take stars photos ? i just listen somewhere that when you put shutter upper than 1 sec the ISO is stucked at 100. is it true in this camera ? other question is the size of the sensor, the quality of photos is good enough for a camera ? or it's noise AF? hope you could help me :3

    • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Fellipe! In my experience with this camera, you should be able to adjust the ISO doing a long exposure of more than 1 second, it should not limit you at 100. Although if you are doing long exposure, its always better to use a smaller number for sharpness. It is possible to do star photographs, like the milky way, with this camera. Naturally, the bigger the sensor, the smoother the graduation for light and less noise you will see in your photos, so naturally I wouldn't choose this camera specifically for star photography but it is possible to get an okay shot with it. If you are looking for a good camera at a similar cost to do star photography, I would suggest at least crop sensor, like the Canon SL3 or the Nikon D3500. These cameras will give you more options and will get you a higher quality image. Hope this helps!

    Some good information, but there is nothing on the camera that says Quick Menu and I cannot see which buttons you are pushing because your thumb covers all of the available buttons. Is the Quick Menu the Function Set button by any chance?

    • @Shutterbug101

      The quick menu is the Q/set button in the middle of your directional pad, my apologies for covering them up. Once you hit the Q button, you can then use the directional pad to move to different settings and change as needed. Hope this helps!

    • @Shutterbug101

      What I am hearing from my Canon rep, is if you have it go to the same location on the computer every time, without moving the photos to other locations, it should detect that there would be duplicates with the same name.

    I have a problem. I can activate the optical zoom+ digital zoom in the Auto Mode. However, I can't access the digital zoom when I turn the dial to "P." Also, I can zoom in on the moon while taking a pic, and it will focus with no problem. However, it won't focus on the moon while I'm taking a video clip. It just stays blurry.

    • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This camera has difficulty focusing during video at times. When you are in video mode, be sure to put the focusing mode in AF-C to assist. When it comes to the digital zoom in P mode, you may have to turn it on in the menu. I don’t usually recommend using digital zoom as the quality begins to degrade, but if you want the distance it is all preference.

    New Canon SX70 HS - ERR 60 Lens error, camera will now shut down.
    Recently bought this Ultra-Zoom for bird photography and love it. Only problem is that every other day or so it would close down with an ERR 60 lens error. So I returned it to Canon under warrantee. They sent me a brand new replacement and now (after a couple of days) the replacement is also doing the exact same thing. I understand there are a variety of things that can cause this error, but this camera has never been dropped or been on a beach where a grain of sand might cause problems.
    Anything I can do about this or do I have to live with it?

    • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a real shame and I apologize for your bad luck! I have only seen this happen in person when the customer was turning the camera on with the lens cap (and leash) still on it and the camera detected it being held back. If you haven’t dropped it, there isn’t grit or liquid damage inside, and it’s not the lens cap issue, you may have another lemon 😞 You could send this one back to Canon, as per their warranty, or I have had customers prefer the Panasonic FZ80. Either way I hope you have less issues in the future!

    • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      With this camera, it can be very tricky. This camera excels in daylight, and the best way to avoid camera shake without a tripod would be to practice with deep breathes (inhale and hold, release when you hit the shutter button slowly) or finding something to steady you (the top of a vehicle, a fence post, a rock). For this model, that is the best advice I can give for stabilization.

With the screen swiveled out to suit sight line. And yes breathing pattern the same as shooting. Glad i learnt that technique in the Army. It ensures that camera shake is controlled. I currently have a canon 540hs powershot. What is frustrating is I cannot start or stop video recording remotely even through the canon app and even in live mode. Does this model allow me remote control of start stop of video?. Also I use a field monitor attached via HDMI. Again my 540 HS does not allow live view whilst recording video but will playback. Will this model allow me to view and record video at the same time when attached to and external monitor. Finally can I livestream with this camera in view of its connectivity and my comments....

    • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats very strange that it will not allow you to start or stop video and it doesnt have a live view when recording. When it comes to recording, make sure your card has been formatted which will permanently erase all data off the card as sometimes that can be the issue. The powershots are notorious for working roughly with the app, but you should be able to record remotely by hitting the red record button through the app on your phone. And because this does have an HDMI port and a live view option, it should absolutely give you live feed when recording. The live streaming, however, I don't recommend with this camera as you will always see a focusing box on the screen and there is no way to hide it. If you want a camera that will work well with the app, connect to your monitor, AND have the clarity to live stream with the proper equipment and software, I recommend a Sony rx10. That is the model I have heard the best results from when it comes to a bridge camera. Otherwise you may consider going with a Sony a6400 or a Panasonic gx85. I hope this helps!

    • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The way folders work is you start a new folder at the beginning of each day, and the photos you take will then sort into that folder you made. You will be unable to sort the photos into folders in camera after the photos are taken. If this is the case, you will have to create folders on your computer, date them, and sort your photos accordingly. Let me know if you have any other questions!

      It should allow you to take photos back to back fairly quickly. Keep in mind just because you see a preview of the last image on the screen, you can still take another photo you do not have to wait for it to fade to black. Also, make sure you have a new SD card with a reliable speed, an SDXC card with a 10 rating or a U3 symbol.

    • @Shutterbug101

      Great question! The Panasonic FZ1000II does have a larger sensor so it does do better in low light situations. However, it does have more features and buttons that can get confusing to a user who may want simplicity. So while I prefer the Panasonic, someone who may not be concerned about low light that wants an easy to use point and shoot with a good grip, the Canon may be the better option.

      Try using your zoom lever by nudging it one time toward the "T".
      If that doesn't work, there should be a magnifying glass on the back to push and should bring up one photo so you can use your directional pad to go backward and forward to view.

    • @jowolf2159

    Hi, I’ve just purchased this camera and I do have one question, it might seem a strange one, but how do you bring up the electronic level in the centre of the screen to help keep your horizons level ?
    Keep the videos coming

    • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not recall if this camera has the level feature, but if it does, it should come up after continuously pressing the info button on the back until it comes up on the screen. If you keep seeing the same options over and over, there is no level option in the camera. Hope this helps!

    Is the RING on the lens for manual focusing or to extend the zoom manually?

    • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      On this camera model, there is no turnable ring on the lens. So if you want to manually focus it can be a bit of a challenge.

    • @Shutterbug101
      @Shutterbug101  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are correct, but after so much time overwriting, it causes corruptions and I have literally seen corruption eat away images one by one just because there was an error overwriting a single file. I only used "virus" for the beginners in a sense that it does effect more than one image and to stay on the safe side, its always good to every now and then format your cards in camera.
