    Thanks I've had the camera for a few years now, had the 30 and 50 previously and have always been satisfied with the exception of low light quality, but all in all I think it's a great camera and you have made me better understand some of the features with your video, so this old timer says thanks. I'm 80+ and still enjoy outdoor photography and for a lot of novices I always tell them to look into the Canon Powershot, the zoom is terrific for my personal use in wildlife and architecture close-ups, also the lanscapes I take in wide angle always turn out well.

      HI and thanks for your comment. I would agree with you that the lowlight is definitely the Canon's weakness but I would think most of the time, it will be used in outdoor conditions anyway. One thing I have found trying to pick up aircraft in the sky having tracking AF and centring on, pressing the centring bottom lens button initialises tracking and half pressing the shutter button the camera looks for the subject and locks on. Handy when not able to centre the subject wobbling around with long reach. Difficult to know what function does what and the combination needed and Canon's focusing is not state of the art or user friendly. They are more focused on dual pixel and their contrast focusing modes and efficiency are not exactly up with Panasonic. It is a good camera but gets a lot of flack losing functions on previous models but any camera maker hanging on making these cameras is doing us a favour in the thin camera market now.
    I am cautious about leaving servo on as if you lock on a bird and it moves as you press the shutter the focus can miss as it tries to reacquire and the Canon focus is not exactly fast. Just a thought and others may not agree.

    12:30 Regarding the still image Aspect Ratio, I would leave this to the actual sensor size-ratio in order to get the most out of the sensor (20 Mpx) into the saved file (also using RAW + Full size jpg), and the to created a copy of the original which I can crop or adjust as I please while still having the original, unaltered (full size-quality) files. The other settings will record only a portion of the sensor to achieve these "non native" ratios. It's best to get all the sensor's data on the 1st place and to crop a copy to the desired ratio later than to endup wishing for the parts that weren't recorded... It can also help with recomposing the image when cropping 🤔

    I just bought a SX70 and found this video the most helpful introduction to the camera so far. I think superzoom cameras are often underrated. I don't shoot video but I've used my SX60 for birding, especially hard to reach species so I was a little disappointed you didn't delve into the digital zoom feature. I often shoot the SX60 at 104x magnification and it has achieved remarkable results even for large prints. I chose the SX70 rather than the Nikon D950 for its smaller size and what I hoped would be an effective digital range (like my SX60) to the 35mm equivalent of 2,000mm's. However, my first impression of the digital zoom range of the camera suggests it's not as good on the SX70 as it is on the SX60. I'm a new subscriber to your channel and would value your opinion on this subject.

    • @techtoremember8096
      @techtoremember8096  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi ! Thanks for subscribing I really appreciate that. I will tell you why I don’t use digital zoom on these super zoom cameras. My reasoning is that for most purposes I think that the extreme optical zoom range really is adequate. With this camera at 1350 mm you are really really tight and I think that even at that extreme range it’s difficult to get a really sharp shot especially with the small sensor and relatively slow aperture. I guess just personally, the image degradation that you start getting at the digital zoom range becomes unacceptable to me but I understand that you don’t mind it and that’s great if you feel it’s useful for birding- then by all means definitely use the digital zoom. To be honest w I really didn’t test the digital zoom and I haven’t had a lot of people ask about it for the reason that I mentioned since the optical zoom range is just so powerful. Do you find that you get acceptable results in digital zoom with this camera ? Regards

    • @brucegraner5901
      @brucegraner5901 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@techtoremember8096 I have found the digital zoom very useful on my SX60. I did own a Nikon P900 but I hated the viewfinder and motor drive frame rates as either too slow (2pfs) or too fast (10fps with blackout). I never used the 900 beyond 2,000mm's. The SX60 gave me that 2,000mm's using the digital zoom, while providing a faster motor drive frame rate and no blackout in a much lighter package. The SX60 digital zoom impressed me right away, unlike my first impressions of the digital telephoto mode of the SX70. I'll be doing further tests but I was hoping you had conducted some experiments between the two since extreme telephoto use is a big selling feature of superzoom cameras.

    • @techtoremember8096
      @techtoremember8096  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I may very well take another look at the digital zoom based on your recommendation. I have never found a digital zoom on any camera worth its weight because of the extreme image decoration but perhaps Canon has as better algorithm. Regards

      @brucegraner5901 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@techtoremember8096 If you have an email address you don't mind sharing I could send you a couple of examples. I did some tests with the SX70 today and it did quite well up to 104X which is roughly 2,200mm's in 35mm parlance. Some direct sunlight is needed to get the best out of the camera at those focal lengths but I think the results will surprise you. I also have examples from the SX60 and the Leica V-Lux 114 (also known as the Lumix FZ1000).

I'd like to know a bit more about aspect ration/resolution. On my Powershot 5, it shoots at 180 DPI; this one, no matter what I select, it shoots at 72!? How do I get the better resolution? I have it set to what you show as high quality, surely that isn't 72 dpi!! Is the higher resolution achieved in the aspect ration? I tried the Sony RX10 IV and the menus were so complex! Picture quality is great, but you also lose alot of your zoom range, which frustrated me. I started out with Nikon P900 for the zoom, and love shooting wildlife. I wish I had the money (and skills) to use cameras and lenses that produce higher quality photos of large wildlife and birds, but that's not the case! If you don't need the extra zoom for wildlife (or private investigations 😀) AND you have the patience to learn Sony's menus, you'd definitely get that higher quality with the Sony! I love this lighter weight, zoomin' SX70!

    Sorry; I have the camara but I don´t understand it. What is the most advisable thing against blurry videos? Is there a "low light" function that automatically calculates before recording every time you press the recording bottom?; the "low light" function is avalable in Canon Powershot 540 HS and in previous Canon Powershot camaras; but I can´t see the "low light" function in this camara; it´s very difficult.

    • @techtoremember8096
      @techtoremember8096  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there. There is no lowlight function actually. The stabilizer in the camera is not the best. If you use a very long zoom it’s recommended you use a tripod because you will see shake. With the small sensor and slow aperture, the camera gets grainy fast in low light. This camera is better to be used in daylight. Not advisable to use in low light especially if you will zoom.

      Look up CHDK. I have the Canon SX530 and learned about this underground Canon community. They provide some files that you download to the micro SD card. Then when you turn on the Canon camera it lets you load a special options menu with way more features. Like shooting in raw, ability to do time-lapse. And the mod is easy to remove. Just delete the files from the micro SD card. It doesn't harm or change your camera permanently. I've had my Canon modded for 6 years. I bet you can shoot 4K60 with this mod on a SX70.
