    Interesting video, thanks. I've had this camera for only a few days now, and bearing in mind every new camera I get is the 'best ever' (!), I think this little Canon has some outstanding features, namely:
    1. A pretty amazing EVF for what is a small sensor bridge camera, especially compared to this type of camera a few years ago. Perhaps I haven't been keeping up.
    2. A lovely light body with perfect size grip, for my hand anyway. Better grip than on more expensive DSLRs.
    3. A quite brilliant implementation of exposure compensation on a one control dial camera; once selected exposure compensation stays on until you turn it off, meaning it is a single dial procedure. Unlike Canon's more expensive DSLRs where you have to press the EC button at the same time as turning the control dial which is much more fiddly.
    4. Finally I can upload its photos wirelessly to my computer using Canon's Image Transfer Utility software!
    5. Excellent ergonomics regarding its buttons and especially the two separate zoom controls.
    Now to take some decent pictures...

    Having mine now for over 11 months. Its a superb camera for its price point. I love the simplicity and ease of use. It has produced excellent photos of my environment and life. Shoots great in black and white for Face shots. It has proved to be an asset in producing quick shots whilst roaming on my Tricity 125. Well done Team Cannon.

    Finally, a review that was mainly positive! and I think it’s because you made a point of saying what type of photographer this camera would work best for. I’ve watched 6 or 7 other reviews of this particular camera and they all make a blanket statement that it is lousy overall, and prospective buyers hear that and walk away with the feeling of “Oh it sucks”. I’m totally an amateur, but even I know at least half of the reason why photos come out great (or not) is due to the photographer’s skill level.
    I thoroughly enjoyed your review btw! I have this camera actually - got it two days ago.

    • @TravelGigolo
      @TravelGigolo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly! In my view this camera is not intended to be the equivalent of an expensive DSLR with multiple high expense lenses for paid professional photographers.
      Hope you are enjoying your camera 👍🏾

      @@TravelGigolo Thanks! I came down with covid but hope to be out and about soon to try it out.
      I have a question, hoping you know how to save a still shot from video?
      On my last camera it was super easy and pretty much self-explanatory, but for some reason on the FX70 I can’t figure it out or find anything that shows how to do it. I read the entire user manual booklet that comes with the camera, and also went to Canon’s website to see their online manuals for the FX70 but to no avail.

    This was one of my many cameras I’ve bought in the passed, I tend to just stick to manual cameras now.
    Get better images.
    Ngl this camera me great.
    I had this with me as well as my big camera. It worked but I no longer use it.
    But it’s good for beginners.
    I’ve been doing wildlife photography for over 6+ years. I buy trade and sell cameras all the time.
    I like wildlife photography and if you do to then this is a nice camera to have.
    Call it a staters camera.
    I don’t call it a beginners for me I just bought it that year to see what it can do.
    But I do recommend it.
    But technically is improving and there is much better cameras out there now.

      Definitely a great camera to start with. Been a while since it was launched so I guess there is better technology out there now. When people ask what camera they should buy, I almost always recommend a bridging camera for versatility and being well priced tool for learning.

    I hate touchscreens on cameras. It's far too easy to accidentally touch some part of the screen and end up changing some settings, which can make you completely miss all of the action. It's particularly bad when you have to spend a minute or so trying to figure out exactly what it was that you accidentally touched so that you can fix it.

    • @TravelGigolo
      @TravelGigolo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I find that's a problem with small cameras like the M50. But I definitely prefer the touch screen as it's user friendly and the changes are immediately visible on the screen. Adjusting focal point for example is quicker.

    Will this be atleast better than my Redmi note 7 camera ?? One more question -- Digital zoom starts after 65x optical while zooming ?? And I love zooming and clicking 😊

    • @TravelGigolo
      @TravelGigolo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have no experience with the Redmi Note 7, however a cellphone camera and a dedicated super zoon camera have very different functionality. Firstly, I'm not aware of any significant optical zoom capability on any smartphone, and second the lens set up is very different as well. Smartphone camera technology has come a long way, but I can't see that it would meet the capability of 65x optical zoom. In other respects such as close up and landscape photos you may find that the smartphone produces more desirable image quality. Generally wide-angle is where the smartphone may be better. The SX70 fills a set of needs outside the smartphone's capability. Smartphones now have really good slow motion capabilities (I have an S9, soon to upgrade 😉), the camera is not as good in that respect but zoom capability can't be matched.

      Both pretty do much good for amazing photos just remember this.
      Canon don't have touch focus but autofocus, as the phone does has.
      While recording canon sx70 can focus good and auto itself when detecting a blur but touch screen is faster to focus on the subject you want.
      Canon sx60 still has f3.4 that aperture depth of field isn't really great to blurry out picture, kind of a embarrassed for pro or average photographer.
      Your phone is f2.0 does a great job and my motorola one action can go lower to 1.80 that alot better.
      You can find better camera with better feature specs.
      My phone show a bit clearer noise level then my canon sx60 same quality as sx70 but still show some noise just clearer then canon sx60 iso100.
      Your phone can record slow mo at 120fps with 720p, yes canon sx70 has slow mo but it's terrible the slow mo is fine just you won't able to record in hd but in 640/240p only.
      Only thing you missing is that 4k but do you need that? It's ok for me to have 4k just to feel like I'm not missing big size haha. I tend to record on 1080p/60 or 30.
      I still want that 4k yes my phone has that feature only 30fps.
      Oh one more thing over zooming is to overrated, cause they arent the same distance as bincoular and telescope at the same number, my 10x bincoular can see the moon crater larger closer then my sx60 at 10x.

      We try to use fast write speed cards from reputable manufacturers. I don't really have a specific brand or product that I use.

    you mentioned you had the Sx50 first... do you think this one is worth upgrading to from the sx50?

    • @TravelGigolo
      @TravelGigolo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The SX70 is definitely an upgrade from the SX50. The SX70 zoom is only a little further in reality, but it has a 20MP sensor which is also newer so better image quality. SX70 has wi-fi and bluetooth connectivity which the SX50 does not have, this is very handy for quick file transfers and backup. The SX70 sits more comfortably in the hand too. For me, those are the main differences on a practical level although there are various other technical improvements.
      Would I upgrade from an SX50 to an SX70 because of the above. Honestly no. I would not spend the money buying the new camera to replace a perfectly fine SX50 if it's only for those reasons above. That is my personal real-world opinion. I suppose it depends on how significant these factors are to you as an individual and of course your budget.

    Hi! How can I get a blurry background on photos? :)

    • @TravelGigolo
      @TravelGigolo  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The easiest way is to take the photo from a distance at a high zoom. The further away you are, the more out of focus the background becomes. The opposite can also work if the background is far behind the subject of your photo, then you take the photo from close up instead.
      You can try aperture priority (Av) as well. You may have to play with that a bit to get a feel for it.

    Hello I bought this camera a few days ago, when i zoomed into the moon it was not focusing at all. Very difficult. Amy tips ?

    • @TravelGigolo
      @TravelGigolo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. I assume you're having difficulty with night photos of the moon. Day photos of the moon are easier.
      For a clear night shot of the moon, an easy solution is to set the auto white balance (AWB) to tungsten, and reduce the exposure to -1 or so. You can do this in programme mode (i.e set dial to P). Its best done with a tripod. You can also use a delay timer to give the camera time to settle after you press the shutter button or use the remote control.
      Otherwise you can play the settings in manual mode as well until you get it right. Mainly ISO set to about 100, and then change shutter speed to about 1/80, then change aperture until you get you get the photo you want. Try small changes to the settings until you are happy.

      Make sure to set your camera on Manual, Do not use Auto, you will never get good photos of the moon. Crank up your ISO to about 1600 and a large F number try between f20-29. Shutter speed of about 1/60-80. You also want to use spot metering and single point. And shoot the moon when it is just rising just after dark, that is when the moon is at it dimmest and will allow you to get more detail. A half moon will be even better. For best results use a tripod, but you can still do fine hand held. I take the moon using my DSLR with a huge 600 mm lens on it handheld so you should have no problem with yours. As for not focusing on the moon, it is because you probably have the camera set for auto, in which case the camera is using multi-point focus and matrix metering, which you do not want, so that is why it can't focus on the moon. That is why you need to set your camera to manual and set the focus mode to single point and the metering to spot metering. Also no two nights are quite the same and believe it or not the moon is never the same as it is rotating, so the above settings are just a basic setting to go by, you may need t tweak them slightly depending on the night and the size of the moon and how late or early you take it. The later at night and the higher the moon the brighter it is so it will be harder to capture as much detail.

      I haven't used the P900, so can't comment on the difference. I can say that the SX70 auto focus is generally good except if you are trying to focus on something that is small and dark and surrounded by lighter objects. Otherwise it's pretty good.

    • @TravelGigolo

      Hi there, not sure what you mean exactly. If you are talking about bokeh then you can do this via the manual settings. Alternatively if you are not comfortable with manual settings then take the picture at a high zoom such that the subject is in focus and the lack of depth at high zoom will blur the background. Hope that answers your question.

      Unfortunately there is no dial (bezel) on the lens for focusing . The process is all digital. So you go into manual focus and then use the buttons to set the focal position. It's too slow to use this method on a subject that is moving. Perhaps try Tracking Auto Focus. In Tacking AF you choose the subject to focus on and the camera then moves the focal point to stay with the subject.
