We built a Potager-Kitchen Garden! (Before and After Included)

- We've finally finished our Potager/Kitchen Garden. Well almost, we are still missing the greenhouse but we are all prepared for it when they come back in stock. We used galvanized stock tanks as raised beds and are growing annuals, fruit (grapevines, blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries), and of course vegetables. My husband and I completed all of the work ourselves.

So thankful that TH-cam randomly recommended this video to me today. What a wonderful space -- so many ideas for those of us who are trying to reduce their lawn and replace it with useful and beautiful plants, and I can tell you two put a lot of love into this garden.
Thank you for your kind words!! and I'm glad you found us! YESSSS get rid of as much of that lawn as possible lol
That was very nice, I walked barefoot on your lawn for a while, then took a break on the bench by the ivy tree and admired the woodland garden. Then I hopped up and down the cobbled path, looked to see if there were any blueberries to snack on, and finally drank a cup of tea at the cast-iron table. Thank you for the relaxing and refreshing garden tour!
Oh my, you just described how I view my garden perfectly! Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment!!
@@planttasticcookinggardenin1561 Your video, pictures and narration, make it easy for the viewer to feel right in the middle of the garden. I would like to come over for a visit when the grapes are ripe and the crape myrtles are in bloom. ;)
Your entire yard is so beautiful! 😍😍
Thank you so much! We are working hard on it😍
How fortunate for your neighbors to enjoy your beautiful view from their balcony!
I just love your space!
I'm adding you to my list of channels!
Thank you so much!!! : )
I am swooning! I can't wait to see the greenhouse!
Aww thanks 🙏 we are really excited about it too! 😍
Wow!! Thank you TH-cam for flagging this one. This so relaxing, soothing…just beautiful. Those Copper containers are to die for. I too have a lot of containers and pots in my tiny garden….tiny in the American sense, lol!!! A bell for cocktail o’clock is just my kind of thing…hee hee. Greetings from Nottingham UK
YESSSS we all need a bell LOL, Love it!! Thank you :)
Galvanized troughs: Would LOVE to see how you gave them the copper look
Hi! The video will go up later today on how I did them!
Beautiful garden-stroke of genius finishing the galvanized beds in copper!
Thank you very much! : )
Beautiful! I LOVE the copper containers! Yes, a how-to video WOULD be welcomed! I am in WA state, zone 8b. I am near vegetarian and in my 50’s too! 😊. I love that you are gardening organically! Tuck in as many native plants as you can for native pollinators, birds and other native creatures.
It IS hard to find affordable pots! I love the coal bucket too! I wish my hubby would get into gardening with me too. Maybe this will inspire him!
( Please cut the ivy OUT! Pull out by the roots! It is so invasive in the USA! It kills trees! Evil stuff! You could find another climber that is not invasive.)
This garden is SO inspirational and looks so lovely! Next year I want to do more “foodscaping” and I love how tidy this looks. Also, I love how you don’t have to do so much digging. We have clay soil with lots of rocks in it. Your plants look SO happy!
You
Thank you so much! It sounds like we have a few things in common. I’ve tucked in natives in all of my gardens, it’s become very important to my husband and I, plus we love to hunt for them. Thanks for your kind words about my plants. They really prosper when you incorporate organic and permaculture methods even if it’s just on a small scale. I usually have more food then I can eat! Best of luck with your “foodscaping” and getting your hubby into gardening!! Don’t worry about our ivy, I keep it isolated and low on the trees so it can’t do any damage. That ivy is from my mothers best friend’s garden (my mom passed away when I was young) so it’s kind of sentimental and I’ve had it a very long time. I know it’s very invasive like trumpet vine, wisteria in our area.
Please share how you turned these a beautiful copper look. Beautiful!!
I will try to make a video soon! Thank you!!🙏
Very interested! Also interested in how you ran your electric and move heavy stones
@@tda1044 Thank you! Tractor Supply. You can see the exact tank towards the beginning of this video: th-cam.com/video/Hc_5cMKWV-w/w-d-xo.html
Yes they look great!
Yes please a video of how you transformed to copper! They look amazing
Oh my Goodness!!! What a Joy this garden tour was! I am so glad to find your channel. Thanks for all the wonderful ideas ❤️ God bless you and your family!
Thank you so much Vanessa and blessings to you and your family also! Welcome to our channel 💜
Nicole I love this area. It is wonderful. The copper tubs look great with the vegetables. You all are hard workers and it shows in your beautiful place❤️😊❤️
Thanks Jean for your kind words!! I feel the same about you and your beautiful garden 🪴😍
I did it!! I would love to share photos of my planters. I did two smaller troughs and I blended Hammered Copper and Hammered Brown. Followed your exact instructions and had no help from the hubby too. LOL
That is awesome! I'd love to see them finished. You can link to a pic in the comments I think!
This is WONDERFUL! I too have done this but with wood. I decided to use one of my large containers (antique tub) for my compost! It works very well as the goodly goodness is right there to put into your crops and flowers.💜🐝💜🐝💜The wooden teepee's are utterly charming Madame.
I have watched this video one too many times. Absolutely beautiful!
Aww so sweet, thank you!!
Very nice! I love it!!! You hard work paid off. Now enjoy the fruits of your labor. 💜
Thank you, that's the plan!
Wow, this is my dream garden. We are just bought a home, and this is giving me so many ideas!
Oh I'm so glad you are getting ideas as that's the purpose of these videos!! Thank you so much!
Your garden never ceases to inspire. I love the way you used stones to create a border around some of the beds. I’m going to try to do the same thing in my garden. Being from NH (The Granite State), I’ve got stones coming out of my ears. This is a perfect use for them! Love the copper effect you painted on the galvanized containers. (Would love a video on that!) Everything looks beautiful!
Aww thanks so much! I have to admit, I'm a bit jealous of your stone supply. We have to buy it in Southern NJ because all we have is pebbles here 🤣😒. I lived on a farm in PA during my teen years and we had so many rocks and boulders, it was like driving an obstacle course with the mower. I've done the video for the galvanized containers here: th-cam.com/video/Hc_5cMKWV-w/w-d-xo.html
Your potager looks FANTASTIC. Wish I could copy and paste it into my backyard. I am going to begin one, this year. Hope you don’t mind me borrowing some ideas from you.
I hope you do borrow some ideas, design should be shared!! Thank you :)
This is a very beautiful garden. Love, love, love it.
Your garden is beautiful! 💚
Thank you so much 😊!🙏
Absolutely beautiful! I am in awe! What a beautiful beautiful space!
Thank you so much, it’s very appreciated!!
What a beautiful and peaceful garden, so well thought out. I love it all!
Thank you so much!!
I love that you incorporate natural materials into your garden scape. ❣💯 Please show some pics of the rose of Sharon at the end of the season. I would love to plant some over a pergola. Thanks for sharing!
Hi! I love natural materials, glad to find someone else who feels the same. My Rose of Sharons are doing great and blooming but have not grown very much...I didn't factor in that all the veggies would shade the area so much lol. It may take them a bit to start filling in but it's kind of nice as I won't have to prune them as much.
I love your rabbit’s name! I have a rabbit too his name is Lewie. I love growing vegetables and herbs for him. Your potage is absolutely beautiful. I hope someday my gardens will look like this. I just moved in to a new home last summer so it’s a work in progress. I’m so glad I found your channel. 💕
Aww thanks, be patient with yourself, it will come🙏

Your garden is beautiful, happy I found your channel, looking forward to more. ☀️🌼
Thank you so much!
I am a new subscriber and I love your garden! What a labor of love. I have lilies of the valley in my garden and they are my nemesis! They are very invasive. Someone gave them to me over 30 years ago and warned me about them, but I didn't know any better and couldn't afford to go out and buy my own plants. I hope you don't have the same problems I have experienced. I am in New England, Zone 6B.
Thank you! Almost any plant in the garden has the potential to become invasive if it's happy enough unfortunately except the sterile hybrids. Thank you for sharing your experience with it though. It's contained in an area that is bordered by landscape fabric, tree stumps and stone. I intend to let that area go wild so I don't mind if it takes over in that space as it will protect our baby birds. We are in the same zone, I love New England, sooo beautiful!
Beautiful garden.
Thank you!!
beautiful!
Thanks 🙏 !!
Absolutely Gorgeous! you two did an amazing job with the garden! Such a lovely transformation! Love it!
Aww thank you so much, so glad you like it!

Wow i love the copper look! Idk if id have the energy to take the dirt out and wash them up and paint tho! So much to do in the garden this time of yr. But its really beautifully done!
Beautiful! Love the progression. Your hard work has paid off. A true labor of love. I would be interested in your paint method for thr galvanized tubs. I have 2. May inspire me to get more.
Thank you so much! The video for painting these stock tanks is here: th-cam.com/video/Hc_5cMKWV-w/w-d-xo.html
Nice, this was very different ,
Thank you, I was going for something uniquely ours!!
New subscriber here from the Northeast! Your eastern neighbor: New York. Absolutely gorgeous yard. I have something of a Portager garden but I had NO idea there was a name for it. Thanks for the education. And stunning visuals.
Thank you so much! One of the things I love best about Jersey is that it's so close to New York and we visit often. Nice to have a fellow Northeasterner visit!
Beautiful 💕
Thank you so much!! :)
Very very pretty.
Thank you so much!
Love it
Thank you 🙏!
I would love a how-to video on the copper troughs. Love!
Thanks 🙏! I will try to do a video soon.
NICE!
Thanks!! :)
we filled ours with empty water bottles! great drainage and fills with less weight, NO settleing
Yes a lot of people do this. I use the bottom of my bins as composting space sometimes.
Just discovered this video! Your garden rooms are fabulous!! We share similar tastes in many ways. Hope you got your greenhouse! I also love clay pots- just discovered the English made Whichford Pottery pots sold by White Flower Farm.
I’ll have to check out those pots! Well we couldn’t get the large greenhouse we wanted but we built raised beds for now and will be putting up a tiny little cottage greenhouse for now so we can seed start. Hopefully we should be doing that project soon! Thank you!!
@@planttasticcookinggardenin1561 I considered a small poly tunnel because the English greenhouses are so expensive. I live on 5 acres of mostly woods & with global warming I don’t want to take down trees to make room for one. Besides, I live on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay in VA & the hot humid summers make a poly tunnel impractical. Like you, I yearn for a true greenhouse.
I loved it such a serene space, we have a large backyard to I'm trying to convince my husband to do something similar wish me luck.
I will send you all the positive vibes!! Thanks so much!
SPLENDOR!🌻
❤FROM DALLAS TEXAS
Thank you!
Beautiful garden space. Please do a video on how to make the galvanized tank to copper paint.
Thank you so much! I will make a video on that soon.
Loooooove everything. New subbie.
Aaw that's great. Thanks for subbing!
I wish I had your energy and dedication. Your garden is lovely and inspiring. What kind of willows are in the pots and do they need winter storage?
Thank you so much! They are Golden Willow and hardy in zones 2-9 so they do not need winter storage. They overwinter right where they are at in those pots.
Please show me how u painted those galvanized bins
I will try to do a video soon :)
I really like the willow pots, it has that Mediterranean olive vibe going on but cheaper/hardier. I wonder if there are silver leaved willows that would look even more like olives.
My neighbor has a spiral willow that is more silvery. It doesn't weep though. Not sure how they will do in pots long term though so I will keep propagating more.
