My Dream Kitchen Garden Reveal!

  • Since before we moved to our farm in Connecticut I've dreamed of having a big kitchen garden where I could step outside and pick fresh herbs and veggies to use in my recipes. This year my dream came true and we built and planted out a big vegetable garden behind the house where an old and crumbling patio used to be. We still have some finishing touches to put on but I had to share the reveal with you! We will definitely do a followup video so you can see how things mature and what we are able to harvest! If you want to see more of this content outside of the kitchen then let me know in the comments!

Love the raised garden beds. I grew up with my grandmother and she always planted a garden. She would hold out a handful of tiny seeds and tell me that food would come from this. I didn’t appreciate what she was telling me then. We went to a generation where food comes from the grocery store. Great values you are giving your children.

Wow! This is fabulous! In Mexico City, yard space is generally tiny, so my husband created a container garden on our roof. We've got a couple varieties of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, strawberries, herbs, peas, and green beans. But if we had the yard space, we'd absolutely do raised beds.

We are not all as fortunate to have such a beautiful place like they have, or the help to keep it up. I love the yummy recipes they share and have been following him for awhile. I am lucky like you, my husband made me a wonderful garden that works great in our backyard. It’s not a big backyard but it has a space for a garden. ❤️ I hope you have a wonderful week.

Plant some butternuts, they aren't just delicious, but their flowers are scrumptious, stuff them, batter them and deep fry them, or add them to salads. The young tender leaves make the most delish dish too, I fry some onions and then add the chopped up leaves and tendrils, and then cook like spinach, add some cream, and grate in some cheese. You'll thank me!

Poblanos for just about daily use; cubanelles and Hungarian sweets for one of my favorite late summer/early fall dishes: Lesco; Fish chiles and Thai bird chiles and pequins for my favorite fiery dishes, and mini snacking bell peppers to munch on or pickle. Also most herbs, wax beans and blue lake beans (and scarlet runners for the hummingbirds), cukes, zucchini, lemon squash, three different kinds of eggplant, and four varieties of tomatoes. 🌸 I love my herb garden, even when I lived on my own I had them in pots on the windowsill. Now I’ve got them in proper beds in the garden just outside my kitchen door. I have my vegetable garden at back, I used sleepers to raise it so it gets less pests. Plus I’ve got different varieties of marigolds planted around them with different types of mint plants in pots, it keeps less pests. I love the smell lol so I’m partial 😂🤣

Pamela Marsh, this summer, after 4 summers of tomato failure, I tried the two 5 gallon bucket method. You can find directions on youtube. The tomatoes are on my deck which makes it easy to care for. I have so many beautiful tomatoes and peppers this year If you have room, this method might work for you. A tube is in top bucket to bottom bucket and that is your watering place. It is kind of hydroponic. Very little bending over to get the tomatoes. I can't have a garden like John's and this is a nice compromise.

Lemon grass sprays could also help, but there are flowers that you can keep around your garden that bugs don't care for like Marigolds and Lavender.

Put garlic and chili peppers in some water, let boil for a while and then sift. Spraying it over my plants works really well every time.

I have a home allotment/kitchen garden… i have for many years grown from raised beds.. i liked the organised manner of growing and also i had dreadful soil and simply couldn’t dig anymore. In the last two years i have gravelled between all the beds and it makes such a difference for weeds, cleanliness and the general look. Only grow what you like and eat is the best advice although each year I grow a new thing from growing gourds to loofahs. Unfortunately we battle against the weather in the UK so i also have a greenhouse for tomatoes, cucumbers, chillies and peppers. Your kitchen garden Is a visual delight and so good for your children to realise where food comes from and how hard it is to produce so food becomes a valuable resource and something that doesn’t magically arrive in the fridge.

Must be nice to have outdoor space for a decent garden. I live in a small condo with no yard - it was all I could afford before I became too sick to work - so I can’t grow much of anything. I would love to grow tomatoes, carrots, green onions, all sorts of peppers, cucumbers, and have a lemon tree. With few windows and very limited space indoors, the best I can manage is a few tiny pots of herbs like mint and basil. I grew up in a house that had a great big garden in the backyard; we used to grow so many cucumbers that we’d make pickles each year, and we had fresh tomatoes nearly year-round because of the warm climate. I miss being able to do that.
