    I cannot express how much I love your videos!!! It is like Christmas when a new one comes out. I live on Cape Cod, so I find all your plantings very relatable. I love to DIY around our .6 acre lot, and you and your husband are so inspiring for my own garden. Like you, we love moving rocks and have a local place nearby as well. We move them in our GMC truck :) Keep up the great work and please keep sharing - I watch and rewatch all the time. Take care, and enjoy that beautiful garden.

      Oh my, what a lovely comment, thank you so much! It's so great to connect with like-minded DIYers. Cape Cod is so beautiful and we try to visit there when we can (we used to camp up that way when our children were young). Although we are a devoted Ford family, we don't discriminate against any truck. If it can haul, it's good with us! LOL : )

    It looks beautiful. I’m a Texas Master Gardener, I would like to share a suggestion to help out with future projects. We recommend newspaper and cardboard. I noticed you used a layer of newspaper. Bravo! However, I was taught to use approximately 10 layers of newspaper or one two layers of cardboard. I wet the layers with the water hose to hold them down. It gives you more layers to keep the grass from growing back later. The best part of it, it’s biodegradable. It helps send nutrients to the soil. Again, it looks great! Happy Gardening! 😊👍🌿

    • @planttasticcookinggardenin1561
      @planttasticcookinggardenin1561  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much and tips are always appreciated! I was taught that too 20 years ago but have found that many layers to be unnecessary. One to two sheets works great in my garden and suppresses all sod within 30 days. All of my beds in recent years have been built right on grass (no dig/till methods) so I'm very experienced (been gardening for 30 years). I imagine that each garden is different and this would be great advice for non-abundant planters. I cover every square inch of my soil with a plant if I can lol.

      @@planttasticcookinggardenin1561 Thank you for your response. Here in Texas, with an almost year round growing season, and turf grasses that grow from rhizomes and stolons, it can be a challenge. Congratulations to your beautiful and serene garden. 😊

    Nice work, looks good. Those swing out and up extensions off your main line for irrigation is so you can get your head exactly even with the grass height. There's different types of heads and it would be almost impossible to put your main line exactly at the depth needed and even if you did manage it with those heads you'd never be able to switch to a different style and keep it level without ripping it all out.....just saying.

    The area looks very nice. The only thing I would suggest is you need to 'plant' your boulders.. in nature when you see a boulder it generally sits below ground level from years of soil settling, dirt piling around, etc. Ask any good landscaper.. you will notice an immediate different in your landscape. Keep up the good videos..

    • @planttasticcookinggardenin1561
      @planttasticcookinggardenin1561  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the tips! This is wonderful advice for hard or clay soils for sure. The reason we don't plant our boulders is that they plant themselves quite quickly here. Our soil is very sandy and we flood quite a bit from our high water table and raging storms. Those boulders will disappear before we know it. I'm always unearthing our rocks.

    • @estherclotz176

      @@planttasticcookinggardenin1561 Oh, where are you? Guess I've always had the harder soil. But even when I lived in AZ we planted them.. thanks.

    • @planttasticcookinggardenin1561
      @planttasticcookinggardenin1561  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@estherclotz176 We are in southern New Jersey. Our dry creek bed with the very light fieldstone has only been there one year and the stones are already too low to effectively put mulch around for the weeds. I'm already going to have to dig them up. You can't pick them up by hand as they are already buried in the the soil (and that's on landscape fabric!!).
      AZ probably doesn't have the leaf litter (we take 100 barrels of debris from our yard every six months) or the rain. I think AZ average rain is between 8"-19" of rain a year. We get 46 inches of rain on average. Big difference! Plus our garden can be under a foot of water for sometimes weeks and our plants have to adapt to being aquatic at times. We always plant one inch above the soil surface and build our gardens up. Every garden is different, that is why there are no absolutes.

    Looking really beautiful! Can I suggest that on your pathway area around the flagstones you placed, to use a perennial ground cover clover. They are wonderful. It is a beautiful medium to dark green. It stays fairly low and only require mowing a few times a year. In fall, you can let it flower to help reseed itself and attract tons of Beneficial's. It suppresses weeds while adding lots of nitrogen to your soil. It doesn't attract your grub worms, so it deters moles from invading. It is soft under your feet and much more lol. Depending on your area, I believe you can get white or red clover. Highly recommend it as it requires very little maintenance.

      Thank you so much!! Oh this is such good information! Is it aggressive about spreading into the surrounding beds? I’ve had such a problem with the regular weed clover this year and had no choice but to treat my lawn for it. I was considering star creeper as that really seems to like my soil and I love how it blooms most of the summer.

    It looks fantastic! I'm right there with you with moving rock, soil and then planting, (by myself) I've been at it all season and still not done. lol If you plan on adding manure you may not have to dig those stones in. I know after many years I've had to raise some of my pathway stones.

      Thank you so much! I agree with you on digging the stones in. Our sandy soil and rains just cause them to suck down into the earth. We have so much stone on our property now that I'm forever unearthing them. So glad to meet so many like-minded gardeners. lol Are we ever done??

      This can be true for ALL happy plants that aren’t sterile! It’s best to find out what is invasive in your area. What’s invasive in your garden, may not be invasive in mine 🙏😃
      Thanks for stopping by!!
