There’s a common building principle of “think of blocks as colors, not blocks” and Bdubs is one of the only people I’ve seen go beyond that principle. He not only treats blocks as colors, but applies color theory and advanced painting techniques in ways I’ve never seen before.
I know right? A gradient foing from prismarine to nether bricks is crazy like WHYADJUBAHABHUH? How is it possible? The mans got some great artistic talent
This is literally gold. When you showed how easily other color pallets can be applied to grey scale simply by looking at brightness, it felt like a switch flicked in my brain where now everything makes sense.
I've seen a lot of people try to break down the building techniques of well known Minecrafters, but I think this is by far the best analysis I've seen without giving the same generic and obvious advice that everyone always gives. Well done.
I love everything about this video and can’t wait to see more!! I’ve been trying to improve my building skills lately so it’s so interesting to learn more techniques and how to implement them! :D
I've been watching Bdubs since Episode 10 of Building with BdoubleO. That was my first episode I ever seen, watching him grow as a builder has been amazing.
great video! i see we're all waiting for him to drop another vid... i'm noticing that more and more small channels start emerging with a similar ambiance, montage and building technique than bdubs. it's amazing to see how a passionnate creator can inspire others so radically. the contrast between simple builds, and huge works, characterize bdubsto me. it's something to learn from : he learned how to make a small house look majestic in a plain open field colored with attention. i think that's something you missed about him, because scale is something very peculiar in bdubs builds. his huge builds aren't always the more vibrant to me, it has more to do with how he puts the same effort in small AND huge builds. his builds feel alive that way, and coherent with one another. anyway loved it, hope to see new content like this!! ps: btw i just looked at your channel and you seem to be an amazing builder as well!!
Thanks! I can't agree more with you. That's a good point that you mention and I would say it's more characteristic of his most recent S10 builds, so maybe I'll include that in a future part 2 of this research :p
There are very little videos out there that would get me to instantly subscribe to the uploader, but this.... Hours of research, boiled down into 20 minutes, packed with information but in a way that allows us to absorb it well. Amazing
Finally got a chance to watch this, and wow. Absolutely incredible explanations and analysis. Bdubs has always been an inspiration for me. Best video ive seen breaking down some of his techniques. Nice work!
Absolutely excellent video, phenomenal theory and breakdown of the build proccess and design decisions. You understood Bdubs' highly artistic building philosophy very well. I would've loved to see you try building an example structure in his style too and you ABSOLUTELY delivered with that take of the gate mixed with the S7 palace. You're very talented. Also, it's insane just how flat the Big Gate actually is when you show it in a singular colour. Bdubs _(And then you too!)_ managed to convey so much depth and richness in a surface using his impeccable understanding of shading alone, it's absolutely mind-blowing. Also, in the TNT shop analysis bit, on top of how amazingly you understood every nuance of the actual colour theory, it is worth mentioning that this gradient and palette was chosen by Bdubs solely because of the theming of this building - It's supposed to signify a completely charred surface that's been long burnt up and is standing as a hollow, colour-dried carcass. This colour scheme does an EXCELLENT job of mimicking this rather complex and difficult theme to do in Minecraft, and I think it doesn't work on absolutely every build. Even still, your rendition of this scheme on Bdubs' Monolith is awesome.
One thing to mention woth BDubs is that many people claim his builds lean into ‘Block Vomit’ territory, and even the Moon was trashed on in Gerg_'s video about it and I bring this up because I was recently tsling with my friend about it. I dont find most of his builds too block vomity at all but i will say somw of BDubs' builss are a bit of an acquired taste.
Man this is amazing please do more people like Grian, JR Craft, Good Times with Scar, Whip and many moore I really like your video, keep up the good work!
this was a lot of fun to watch! Great research , and making folks realize yo9u can not just jump in the game and become B-dub or Calven you have to practice !!
I love this video, useful and full of tips for new builders! I think another great builder is JermsyBoy, he has a similar style to bduoble. However it would be cool to see a video about his style too.
Most of these are obviously done on creative with world edit. I love hermit craft. But there is no way on earth they are building that stuff on survival. Collecting the blocks. And reshuffling the inventory alone would take hours.
Yeah, most of the builds ARE made in a creative world, but when it comes to actually building it on the Hermitcraft server, it's all done in survival! And yes, gathering resources and managing inventory/storage can take hours!
Yeah the builds are made in creative but it is a survival server so they do gather the resources needed. Many hermits do resource gathering streams on twitch

The TNT shop is probably the best build i’ve ever seen, absolutely genius.
I’d say I like his recent super smelter building or potion brewing building.
@@monochromeapple4587 love the silos as well, so simple yet do effective
bdubs armored elephant is better
I know right? A gradient foing from prismarine to nether bricks is crazy like WHYADJUBAHABHUH? How is it possible? The mans got some great artistic talent
I can imagine how many hours of research you've done for this video, and making the extra clips and so on. Amazing video Calven, well done!
Thanks Linard! Yes... it took it's time but it was really worth it :D
This is literally gold. When you showed how easily other color pallets can be applied to grey scale simply by looking at brightness, it felt like a switch flicked in my brain where now everything makes sense.
Hahaha thanks! I'm glad that made some sense :D
Amazing editing, spot on analysis, and explanations. I Love this style! It’s so helpful. Thank you so much!
Thank you Ash! :D
I've seen a lot of people try to break down the building techniques of well known Minecrafters, but I think this is by far the best analysis I've seen without giving the same generic and obvious advice that everyone always gives. Well done.
Thanks! I appreciate the kind words!
Please continue this, I love this idea and I know if you keep doing this you’ll get extremely popular
I love everything about this video and can’t wait to see more!! I’ve been trying to improve my building skills lately so it’s so interesting to learn more techniques and how to implement them! :D
I'm glad you enjoyed it! :D
Great video. my brain expanded watching this. 10/10
This video is probably the first of its kind. Great idea and follow through!
Thanks! :D
I've been watching Bdubs since Episode 10 of Building with BdoubleO. That was my first episode I ever seen, watching him grow as a builder has been amazing.
Ive been obsessed with bdubs build style since 2012. This video beautifully captures the artistic journey I witnessed growing up
Bdubs is certainly a favourite of mine!!! His current builds in the present Hermit Craft are next level!
Bro I’m getting butterflies in my stomach from this video it really breaks down step by step how it works
So pumped to watch this later. I’ll be back
did you remember
@@cuddlecakes7153Yep and I'm very happy I did
bdubs is such an incredible artist these days, showing the home depot in the intro gave me throwback whiplash
This is soooo cool. As someone who's very analytical and artistic I think I'm going to like your channel.
Oh also your accent is beautiful. It's very nice to listen to.
Thanks! Glad you like it, not everybody does 😅
I think this series is going to be one of my favorites, this is such a great video!

Would love a video on Smallish Beans
Bdubs scares me, not because of his skills. But because his name is BOO. I scream every time
There are very little videos out there that would get me to instantly subscribe to the uploader, but this....
Hours of research, boiled down into 20 minutes, packed with information but in a way that allows us to absorb it well. Amazing
this is such a great analysis. i really like how you picked up on his colour blending
Thanks! Its a very interesting technique
He is my favorite builder ever, great analysis man, keep it up
What an great video man! I really enjoyed this! Goodtimeswithscar or bluenerd would be epic too! I love them both!
It's a shame this video came out when it did because I'd love to see you break down bdub's latest building from his building with bdubs series
oh absolutely, saw that yesterday and was amazed by that build. It gives me an excuse to make a part 2 in the future 😅
Loved this! Maybe we will get one on Scar?
Thanks Matt! Yess Scar is definitelly on the list
Finally got a chance to watch this, and wow. Absolutely incredible explanations and analysis. Bdubs has always been an inspiration for me. Best video ive seen breaking down some of his techniques. Nice work!
Thanks Taco! I'm glad to hear that, Bdubs is amazing
I’m learning! The color blending diagram and breakdown as it pertains to light is something I haven’t seen elsewhere. Actually incredible!

Amazing Video! 10 out of 10! 🔥🔥
3:39 the audio brought back fuzzy memories, like a TH-camr more modern may have used it, or a TV show I watched, I don’t remember.

Awesome video! I think for next builders to go over, Pearlescentmoon would be at the top of my list!
Love this, exploring the techniques different builder use!
Mythic sausage or pearl or gem or joel or Fwhip would make good examples for future vids.
Great Vid. Bdubs is really "the artist" of the Hermitcraft Server. Thanks for breaking it down.
This video really taught me aloty of new things! I'd love for you to make one on scar oe pearlescentmoon next
Man this is amazing please do more people like Grian, JR Craft, Good Times with Scar, Whip and many moore I really like your video, keep up the good work!
This would be a blast of nostalgia for Bdubs if he watches this
Honestly I had to scroll way down in my TH-cam page to find this but I knew the watch was worth it.
Videazo mi bro 🙌
Of course you do, but you can also examine Stan06's structures. thanks for a very good video

Thanks Oak! Absolutely, seeing that was very refreshing, not everything happens in under a 60 seconds timelapse
Now this is content. Thank you for your hard work.
this is such a good video! keep going!
My favorite TH-cam entertainer and builder!
That video is very nice. I would recommend PearlescentMoon for her organics and use of color.

You showed clips from mindcrack season 5 not 3
You are correct. The playlist says season 3 therefore the confusion, but it's indeed season 5. Thank you for pointing that out.

Bdubs is good but scar is better. Could you do a video like this for him? That would be awesome! ❤
Ngl this makes me uncomfortable for some reason
