Another building trick Bdubs uses thats not mentioned in this video is perspectives and sight lines. Bdubs has this one specific shot / angle or picture in his head that his build looks the best from and his entire build will be built with that picture in mind. For example, he will use trees to block your line of sight on the side so your eyes focus in on the build and he will use a gradient going from dark to light so your eyes travel up the build.
A tip i would give to everyone who wants to learn building, stop thinking of blocks like blocks. He covered it briefly in the video, but i wnat to explain a little further. As a builder, one of the most important steps is exactly this. Take iron, for example. An iron block is metal, but it does look that much like metal. Polished andestie, however, really does. Even if a wall is made out of stone in your head, doesnt mean you have to build it out of only stone. For grey stone (minecraft stone colored) walls, coral, light gray wool/concrete powder and even acacia logs can work well. Another exapmle is stripped birch and birch planks and sandstone for, well, sandstone. Stone is only stone if you force it to be, so run wild with all kinds of blocks! (Also, sorry if this is confusing, my english isnt the best) Yet (:
If you want to know what style his builds are, think about architectural styles instead of minecraft styles. For steampunk, he bases heavily off of brutalist architecture. For his “medieval” builds, he uses older architecture styles like tutor and gothic.
Only thing I think you missed is that Bdubs woulda added some more shape to the roof with some wonky placed stairs and halfslabs to add like holes as if it were breaking down and not being properly maintained, maybe even added a couple single glass attic windows in a dormer style
Bdubs views Minecraft building the same way painters think of painting. You think of the colours, the texture, the values, the composition, the depth etc. After binging Bdubs' building series, I've learnt that he first experiments with new designs in creative mode, equipped with several reference photos and artworks that he's gathered for inspiration. This removes the major mental block that you have in survival mode in regards to block availability, that makes experimentation in survival mode. This is especially important if you're using a texture pack, because you can't use Bdubs' videos to show you what blocks work together, as he typically just keeps the vanilla Minecraft texture.
Really like that your making these tips not only on one TH-camr but with multiple Minecraft TH-camrs to show that Erfurt one has a different style that I can chose from.
I love ur stuff bro,the fwhip one helped me a ton as I am a really big fan of him. U should play survival and try out these tips! Maybe someday in the future people will be making tips on how to build like YOU.
You hit on the most important aspects of bdubs style: appreciating the build from a distance, and using darker/lighter blocks to create shadows/highlights. Your example build came out good as well.
according to one of bdub's hc videos, he said he doesn't like the gradient, he prefers the aspect of texture and creating highlights and shadows. that's why he uses diff kind of blocks and it works ✅
I believe Grian highlighted a block picker tool in his lastest video, that Bdubs uses for the block palettes selection. I can’t remember the name, but I look cool and helpful.
Good work! Appreciate how the house at the end has presented the color theory in Bdubs builds, but I think it is lacking some “details”. The second layer of the front wall is looking a bit boring, perhaps a bacolny or a simple overhang for rain protection for the logs could help make the build more interesting and tell a story for the build. The build is having the Bdubs builds vibe, keep up the work!❤
@@A1ex.0ff1ciaIjust started my channel almost a week ago, focusing on high quality trying to grow it as fast as possible! Maybe a video together one day in the future! Once I’m further along. Just subbed mate! Looking forward to watching
im just gonna stick to my extremely simple build style lol, i always watch videos on minecraft building but its so overwhelming and ill never get to the point of being able to build like that nor do i even want to😅
"Build like BDubs", you say? Sure, you can copy his current style, but to build like BDubs is to be constantly on the lookout for innovative techniques and experimentation. It's not as simple as using whatever techniques he's using right now.
I like how Minecraft building has become such an art form that people are now doing art studies in it. Love the video!
I agree it's awesome. Thank you!
Bdubs builds are just like his mood swings 💀 complicated but fun
Haha true!
Damn💀
starting to view minecraft blocks as colours and textures rather than wood and stone is probably the biggest improvement a builder can make.
Yes for sure!
can confirm, esp since I've gotten into color theory, I started seeing then as colors About 3 years ago I believe,
great summary of bdubs build style and the techniques he uses. also dude that dead bush on the chimney was such a perfect addition to the house!

He's not just one of the best builders on hc, he's THE best builder on a server full of fantastic builders
i’d argue the Big Three on HC are Bdubs, Scar, and Pearl (but bdubs is my favorite)
@elliejf Bdubs, Keralis, Joel, Pearl and Scar. Bdubs is on his own level though
@@didi81_ don't forget Grian
@@shiny-corvid I didn't forget him, he's great but he's not in the top5 best builders on hc
@@didi81_ Yeaahhh that makes sense

I wish bdubs would have a building of Joy series where he takes 45 minutes to just put things together.

Thank you! It’s great for learning different styles!
Waiting for JermsyBoy and Mythical Sausage

Don't worry, I'm working on it!
Also thanks for making these videos it has really helped me alot
No problem at all!
Dude! This is really sick! I really like the way you structured this video and how you applied your research to make a really solid build.
Thank you!
Great summary, but if anyone here actually wanna learn to build like him just practice for 10 years

one thing I would suggest, please reduce that camera shake so much! and show the creations in the videos! Ur doing great!
can you do GeminiTay next😊 btw love your vids bro❤
I really like the build but would try adding a little bit of depth to the flat walls, maybe with unique roof design, windows, or indented walls
Would love to see one for pearl
in the next video!
can you do scar or smallishbeans next?

I love bdubs and want to build like him, but my ocd doesn't let me use blocks only for their color.
I think the hardest part are choosing the colors
That's very true.
Another option is palette crafter which is similar to the block colors app

I love Bdubs! 🥰
My favorite builder is Jermsyboy.
Man really good video keep it up, nice content.
