birdboss what kind of processing is used to get the effect on the first sample at the very beginning? I want my soul samples to sound “degraded” like that. is it mostly a low pass thing?

I’ll often make a beat and then pitch the entire beat down, and then add low pass filter and vibrato. For this particular beat tape the texture is from sampling into PO33, then SP303 vinyl sim, recorded onto cassette, then pitching cassette down, and then when digitized I added two more rounds of compressor. One thing you can do is process the sample before you chop, add crush, vibrato, reverb, and some filter, resample it and then chop it.
