    Today I'm once again back on my busted PO-33 KO to show you one of the easiest methods to break away from a stereotypical PO-33 track. Everyone knows that the PO-33 can make some awesome lofi hip-hop tunes, but not enough attention is paid to it's overall strength as an arrangement device. Regardless of what genre you want to produce, the PO-33 will almost always be a great way to put together a short song. Enjoy the video!

    'pro' tip, instead of clearing multiple patterns individually you can just clear one then copy + paste it all across

    Thank you very much. I use my Smartphone with "caustic"-app free (and a short mini-jack cable) as an endless soundsource to go for my PO33. You're never running out of sounds and ideas with this combination. Saved my life on so many boring nightshifts...!

    I never even considered using the po33 to make lofi hip hop and still see no reason why that would ever be a stereotype of the device 😅

    These pocket operators I just learned about a few weeks ago have quite some capabilities but geez all those button combinations to do all the functions look to get pretty convoluted and confusing until you get some solid practice remembering them.

    +1 on the Gar Hoover shout-out- that guy is a GENIUS. +1 on the reset idea too- I had put my 33 aside because I didn’t immediately sound like Messrs Hoover and Tinez. Stupid, I know. Now- how to find more hours in the day?

    Hey, does your PO33 hum/buzz when you plug in an aux cord? Mine does, regardless of device- even another PO. it can’t really be heard over music but I’m having a hard time finding out if this is normal. I’m assuming it isn’t!

      Quieter drum hits behind the accents that give the groove some feel. I am sure this can be explained better but this is my basic understanding. For example if your bass drums are on the one have an occasional hit on the and before the two but make it quieter.

    I kind of dug what you had going on there at the end LOL question, after you make your beat like you did and say you wanted to keep it cuz you wanted to make different ones but not lose that one how do you transfer/save that beat externally?

      You can back up your pocket operator to a computer pretty easily, or just record your track into recording software :)

      @@FreeBeat well, a simple double 3.5mm wont work for me, cause the audio on my Mac is only output not input :( it’s easier with the model cycles and usb

    PO, it’s very low building quality gear, I regrade of any dollar what I spend on it. Even in this video, screen of PO does not work.best sampler is just 4 dollars Koala.

      Technically you need to have a smartphone to get Koala sampler, which is way more than the $89 Pocket Operator K.O.. Plus the battery will last much longer than your smart phone.

    What we didn't count on was the PO-33 having a mind of it's own. I played it back at half speed (thanks TH-cam) and I got lo-fi hip hop. Video gamey, and not a standard boom bap beat. But still something I can hear millions of tweens rapping about Fortnite to. :)

    Its lofi bud tos not too lofi its actually not as noisey as alot of older high end samplers but its one of them samplers where boombap dnb and house are the only things that really sound authentic

      That's SUCH a narrow-minded view though. You can literally use this for whatever genre you'd like. Just because something is lofi doesn't automatically mean you can only use it for boombap, dnb, and house. That kind of view is what holds musicians back instead of moving them forward.
