Ye gods, Sub Rosa is such an awful episode. Hey, did you know Beverley Crusher's grandmother lived on a planet populated by stereotypical kilt-wearing Scots? Yeah, we waited until Season 7 to drop that turd on you. Think of it as a call-back to the Season 2 episode Up The Long Ladder that had a planet full of stereotypical drunken Irish men and angry Irish women.

Language serves a purpose. “Some kid of...” is a form of simile, the same as “like” or “almost like” our “similar to”. If you stop using this phrase and phrases like it, you’ll only be crippling your interpersonal communication ability. There is zero reason to be self conscious about it.

This is so good! Another fun SciFi trope is when they explain a situation then use two examples: one fake future event/person, and a second real example that the modern audience understands/can relate to
That's a very interesting observation. Garmaganesh of Ur'Za-bah and Joe Menosky used to implement this technique quite often in their scripts!

I can’t help but see some sort of progressive continuity between the different labels. Each two or three successive labels have some kind of a connection. As if they form a story of some sort. Maybe it is some form of exploration in story telling? The authors trying to express what they are thinking, but not quite being able to put it in the right words.

At the end of their shifts, they head to their quarters and listen to "Some Kind Of Wonderful".
It's even worse when you realize a lot of video games use the same phrase to describe items.
