Agreed! I also hope that Discovery will retain Trek's positive outlook on the future and the optimism of Gene. There's so much negative television these days, and many great tv-dramas thrive on conflict, but I'd live to have some characters that I not only can relate to, but also look up to. Haven't had that since Trek's glory days!
I'm pretty sure Star Trek already inspired millions of people to believe in a bright future and made them try their best to achieve it. I think I've learned alot during my earlier years watching mostly TNG too. So thanks alot for your tribute! I'm positive but not entirely convinced of Destiny yet (after watching two episodes) tho. Yet, philosophy seems to be back after Abrams' admittedly good action - but not Star Trek - movies mostly ignored it for the show. The ending of Destiny's second episode makes me hope...
Yeah, I was intrigued and entertained during the first three episodes (just saw the third one this morning), but I am kinda bummed out about the negativity and darkness of the whole show - not just visually, but also tonally and in terms of the characters. I really hope we'll get to see some light shine through soon!
I like Star Trek as much as the next guy, and there's definitely positive aspects of that idealized future, but there are also many drawbacks.

Haha, nicely spotted! :-D It's from the trailer for Generations, and I've always loved that quote so much.
I thought the same, scratching my head that was a line by Kirk that I didn't know my heart.
Those teasers and trailers for Star Trek Generations were so misleading that it was the only movie released on home video to not contain any promotional material. In fact, the 2-Disc Collector's Edition DVD had to be recalled because it listed the trailers as a special feature even though they were not on the disc. It wasn't until the Blu-Ray release that the trailers were finally made available.
If you haven't checked them out, go watch them. They tried to sell the idea that Kirk and Picard had a lot more interactions than what we got in the final film. For everyone who had not seen the film, the line 'Let's cheat death together' is uttered so late in the trailer that you'd think Kirk was telling that to Picard.
It's true! It's also interesting that the theatrical teasers and trailers for the first three TNG movies all contained footage from The Next Generation spliced in. It was so distracting!
Voyager is in the FC teaser as well.
Insurrections trailers are particularly noteworthy for mis-representing Ru'afo's character. There are no less than two moments in the trailer where he seems to be the man of action when in fact the dialogue comes off as mere suggestions in the final film.

Yep. Not as action oriented as they were making it out to be. Especially the idea of the Enterprise actually using it's full arsenal against the Sona when all it did was run away.

I've lived my life up to this point on a farm, one that is giving me a bit of technical knowledge and surrounded me with all the scrap you could ever use. Even into my adulthood, I legitimately consider if I could build myself some form of aircraft. Something to get myself off the ground. It wouldn't exactly get me to the stars, but I still have that dream of seeing the world in a way I never have. Of fighting the forces of gravity.
I love Star Trek more than I think I could say. All the way back, episodes like The Outcast and The Offspring showed that the franchise acknowledged and respected people such as myself and my friends; now shows like Discovery can say it out loud. I cannot begin to find the right words to express how amazing this video is. May you have a wonderful day, and a lifetime of them to follow.

UltimateSpinDash Why do they need a remaster, those shows totally hold up to modern standards, and even look better than most modern special effects in a lot of places. It's just a testament to how great they are.

Coecludd it is TV-MA but the producers said it is honoring the legacy of Star Trek as a family show. I am guessing it explores dark themes and has some violence and mild language. No explicit nudity or anything. They said it will never go beyond a hard PG 13

Thank you very, very much! I decided very early on to go with the 16:9 format - it seemed like the best compromise since all the features are in 2.35:1 and most of the shows are in 1.33:1. But it was certainly a challenge to frame a lot of the 4:3-shots appropriately in 16:9. I'm SO glad they released TOS and TNG in 4:3 on Blu-ray - SO much picture information would've been lost in widescreen...

You really chose the perfect clips that cover all of Star Trek. I appreciate that you utilized all the series including Voyager and Enterprise. I like how you have a nice mix of scenes from battles and action to themes about friendship, working together, and discovery. Speaking of discovery, I like how you used a Discovery clip when Archer says 'discoveries' in his speech. Nice attention to detail.

I only wish (as I've written elsewhere) that I could've crammed in more from my favorite show, DS9, but in terms of removing footage from a show's context and putting it into a supercut like this, it was certainly the most difficult of all the shows (probably because it's the most "cohesive" of the bunch). And you're bang on in regards to the "profound discoveries" clip! I tried really hard to get the different stories (both in the words and the visuals) to intersect and work well with each other.
Did you know that this cannot be watched on mobile? I tried sharing it on Facebook and friends started saying that the video wasn't watchable. Indeed, I can watch it on PC but on mobile it doesn't even allow you to see the page. It just says the video is not watchable and goes to another video. Shame. Must be the song. I've had that happen to the odd video I've posted too. Why do they prevent videos from being watched on mobile but not on PC?
Yeah, I know! It's really too bad and I don't understand it either - if the video can be seen on computer (and tables, I've heard from several friends), then I assume the copyright holder of the music (and yes, the music is the reason why the video is unplayable on mobile devices) would also make some commercial money from views on mobile devices.
I did consider changing the music track of the supercut, but it would necessitate also changing the rhythm and flow of the video. That would take quite some time, and I quite like the flow and tempo the video has right now. So I'm sacrificing additional views for the sake of keeping the intended impact of the video intact. But I may take another look at it at some point in the future - maybe throw in pieces from some original Star Trek scores instead :-) And hey, thanks for sharing the video! I really appreciate it!!

I kinda like "Discovery" so far. It definitely has some issues (especially the constant pessimism and forced "darkness" - Starfleet officers referering to prisoners as "animals" and allowing them to fight on the ship? Say what?!), but I'm enjoying the characters, the visuals and (most of) the writing. Still cautiously optimistic!
Oh it deserves to be on that list. It damn sure belongs on the list. It is great. Is it as good as TNG, DS9, or VOY? No, of course not. I don't think we're ever going to see the golden era again. But it is STILL very good.
