DS9 definitely had its fair share of weird moments. More than the other series. Maybe it was to balance the darker elements. You could easily do 3 more of these with DS9. Quark being "killed" in the Holosuite. Garak shows ways he can kill Quark to.. Quark.
Hahahaaa! "Mr. Worf, your wife is here ... (small ship flies to him inside engine room)" Trekkies who haven't watched that episode, won't get the joke. One of my favorite episodes in DS9!

DS9: Drama, tragedy, horrors of war, ptsd, terrorism, loss of innocence, betrayal, questionable morality, GUL DUKAT, mental torment, clashing of beliefs, shakespearean monologues. Also ds9:
Dutch tv once aired a DS9 episode with the subtitles of a daytime soap, that made it look like a gay drama because a lot of the the women have male names in the U.S soaps.

Max Grodénchik, the actor who played Rom, actually played baseball seriously and considered going pro. The only way he could fake being bad at it for this DS9 episode was to play lefty, even though he's actually right handed.
it is more than the other treks from the 90s. The whole dominion war arc is probably the darkest part of trek as a whole, not counting the new stuff that has the name star trek on it
Honestly the fact that DS9 still has those silly out-of-context moments despite it used to being one of the grittiest entries in the series helps make it work. It still has the charm of Golden Age Trek and never really got that lost in the sauce. Compare this to Modern Trek, where it's so far up its own ass in the grittiness it forgets to have that basic humanity and charm.
You can't lump all modern Trek together, people seem to agree some of it is better than others- just like classic Trek. I didn't care for Lower Decks but it's not as you described, it takes itself less seriously than classic Star Trek. And then Picard season 3 was a great reunion for the TNG cast and not too dark.
