CAR AUDIO PROFFESIONAL FEEDBACK:
Soldering: YES! Thank you for soldering and heat shrinking, far better than crimp connectors for strength and conductivity.
Earth: yeah Nissans don't have earth in their loom and if they do its usually weak and crap so external proper ground = correct = good Adam!
Blue wire: the blue wire on the adapter plug that goes to the factory harness turns on the aerial amplifier, if you are getting bad radio reception and you want it better, wire it to the the blue/white wire on the Sony harness. (and yes you can have both blue wires on the adapter loom going to the one blue wire on the Sony Loom).
Green wire: The light green wire for handbrake needs to go to earth not accessory. The reason for this is that the wire attached to the handbrake is a switching ground so if you want to trick the head unit into thinking the handbrake is on, wire it to ground.
I have seen far worse DIY jobs than yours Adam so good job!

One thing I’ll say about electrical work. Both ways (soldering and crimping) are fine as long as you’re GOOD at either one. For me I was the same as you Adam, I hated crimp connectors but I just practised and over time you learn to love them! Just my 2 cents. Love everything you do, thanks for making videos!

Since you wired the parking switch wire you should add a backup camera and put it on the each corner of your bumpers with a relays to switch between them. so you can see literally how close you are well tandem drifting. Funny thought I figured I'd share. Lol

If you touch the iron to the solder & drop it into the wire that’s what is know as a cold solder, which will actually make the connection weak & make the solder prone to being brittle & cracked. Heat the wire from below until the solder melts from the top down. Also put some silicone paste after soldering, then slide the shrink tube on. It will help keep water out of the connection. Cheers!
Adam, don’t give into your instincts. Keep the 350z simple. If you make it to pretty you will end up afraid to get in tight while doing tandems. Have to be willing to trade paint and not care too much

I ordered the harness only to get the harness that was on the car stock, (male side) so I just said fuck it, lets cut the wires. Cause I didn't want to wait for another harness to ship.

I didn’t know that either about adapter harnesses until I did about 10 car stereos lol.
First Solder wire looked great! Looked like your solder flowed nicely from one to the next, and wasnt too globby. You can put a bit of solder on the tip of the iron, and press it to the wire, then add a bit of solder into the wire/tip. Solder has a rosin core that allows it to flow properly.
Adam that one wire that you stated for the power antenna you can also use that for aftermarket amp as well to energize the amp to turn on when you turn the key to the on position good job on soldering the wires 👍😊

Soldering the connection is the best thing you can do! Because that way you have the lowest resistens possible. You did a good job!

Soldering tip: Clean the iron right before use. Heat it up to operating temp, then use a old damp dish sponge to clean the crud from the tip. Also, when you are done... Leave a bit of solder on the tip of the iron, this prevents corrosion and tarnishing of the tip over time. If the tip is already tarnished or blemished, use some fine grit sand paper to clean it up, then leave solder on tip in the future to prevent wear and tear. As far as the actual soldering of wires, place a bit of solder on the surface of the iron before you touch it to the wires, this will help with heat up, and also help you feed the solder from the top the correct way. The end result should look shiny and not dull. Like polished aluminum vs. pot aluminum. Hope this helps!

the gamer 458 even just a rotory non turbo will be good. A little more reliable being nonturbo, while still having a power gain over the stock Miata/MX5 motor.

The soldering for the first wire was a cold joint. If you put the iron on it again from the bottom you can heat up the solder so it sinks in to the wires. Just learned that last week in high school

Attended the British drift championship this weekend gone and I can honestly say it was the best experience ever. Massive angle, lots of smoke and loud cars. Not forgetting the awesome community! You really do a great job Adam at encouraging others into this fantastic sport.

When it comes to stereos. You can get plugs that go from 350Z to ISO (universal plug) and then a universal plug to sony plug.
You can get the whole kit for like $10-20. Even for uncommon cars as most cars from one company use the same plug.
EG, my 85 Celica runs the same plug as the Hilux (tachoma) and Camry.

Most car audio guys solder connections or run whole new wires but when unable to run new it's soldered your doing very good doing it the way you do

Never done a 350z, however usually in NZ we can get two adaptor harnesses - Sony to iso. Then iso to Nissan. All plug and play with no soldering or crimping. Done it this way for r33, Toyota and mini
You could get a plug and play all ready harness adapter from any audio shop or well equipped car part shops. Here they have shelves for different Car and radio manufacturers. I just bought a Nissan - Pioneer adapter and boom. works like a charm

With soldering, it’s best if you apply the heat to the underside of the cables, and feed the solder in from the top. It might take a minute to heat the cables up to the point that they melt the solder but that’s how you get the solder to fully permeate into the cable, ie best connection possible. It helps if you get a bigger tip for your soldering iron too.

Why put rubber bands on a fucking lifted truck? Why lift a truck if it's a pavement queen? If u were to lift it for wheeling, why not do like 37s with a 16 or 17" wheel..monster truck status..

You did it right, soldering is the best way to go cuz it’s way less likely to rattle apart!
A tip for soldering the wires. I put a dab on the top to heat up the wire, then I put the iron on the bottom to draw the solder thru the wire from the top.

Really diggin the car pics at the end there. Good job dude, and as for those jerks that always seem to have s better idea of how you should do your car ef em. You do you bro. I like it and a 1/2 a million other folks do as well.
When soldering all you really need to do is prime the soldering metal by touching the tip of the iron to the material and then heating the actual wires you're about to solder together. The best kind of wire mating is spread wires. Like 2 people interlocking hands. It makes sure there are no tiny bits of wire or sharp solder that can poke through the heat shrink and short a connection. Also happens to from the strongest bond and keeps the solder to a minimum. No excess material.
Put a drop of solder on the tip of the iron then touch that to the wire which will heat it up. The touch the solder to the wire and it should cover all of the connection. Also keep the solder tip clean with a wet sponge which will help heat transfer faster.
When you solder put some solder on the iron it helps the heat transfer to the wire. Also put some solder on the end of each wire (called tinning the wire) then hold them together and reheat the solder you have just put on the solder will melt and the 2 wires will come together add more solder if needed

Flux paste helps clean the wire. And in doing so it makes heat transfer easier and helps make Soderling more faster and helps to insure a good electric connection for a long time
Trust me, getting a proper soldering station will help your soldering a lot. Usually "smaller" soldering irons don't have the ability to regulate heat as well as larger soldering stations do, a relatively "cheap" solution is to go with the Weller WES51, or equivalent Hakko. Moreover, heat the wire with the iron, then apply the solder wire to the joint, and try not to blob as much! :)
I don’t know if anyone has mentioned a intake plenum spacer but they are cheap and add some top end torque. I even got better fuel economy with my Z after installing it.
Not sure if you'll see this but the plug for the antenna (not the one that makes it go up. The one that plugs into the back of the radio) will also ground your radio.
Solder connections are far better than crimp connections when done right.
Your solder joints look just fine.
Heat the wire with the heat gun then apply solder once the wire gets hot enough and you'll get the perfect solder👌👌 keep up the good work !! 👌

Solder is great for audio installs. By soldering you make connections that last for ages :D
Looks like you need to use tip tinner or get a new tip for your soldering iron. Seems like you aren't getting enough heat transfer to the wires. Make sure the tip is clean and tinned before you heat up the wires so that it transfers the heat faster then heat up the wires from the bottom and feed the solder in from the top.
