Replying here so hopefully Adam sees, the gap in the intake will actually accelerate the velocity of the air while lowering the pressure. It's almost the exact same design as several piston aircraft engine exhausts and is very common on older aircrafts. It accelerates the air giving the turbo more air to compress for the engine. Works almost exactly the same as the venturi principal.
I was a Paint process engineer for Honda. The lack of paint coverage in that area is likely related to the hood fixturing as the vehicle travels through the Paint process.
The middle section is unpainted but has added primer and a abbrasion resistant coating in the very center. The radiator cover portion you removed is actually referred to as a "cooling plate" and the center section has functional elements that push downward most in the middle and rub against the radiator core support.

Glad you also tried the Eventuri products, I just installed their intake on my Bmw M3 Competition g80 and I’m super happy with it, as I experienced the exact same butt dyno experience, a more snappy and responsive engine. Sorry to hear that on the Corolla it didn’t make a noticeable difference in sound because on my bmw it truly did, now you can hear a clearer and louder turbo whistle under load/acceleration and some lovely “swiiish/swuuush” sounds when you get off the accelerator that the car with the stock intake never did. And for new cars as mine which are obnoxiously silenced due to anti emission bullshit it’s a big win.
The gap on the air tube is for allowing fresh air to be rammed into your air box but at the same time not allowing for water to enter into your air box and if it was to enter that front section it wouldn't technically suck it in because that pipe is not connected it's just a cheaper way of making something that they used to make with a drop down inside of the air box to prevent water getting in

That piece is painted black so you dont see any white when you open the hood. Otherwise you'd see white through the black upper plastic part where the hood latch is

I've was a Physical Therapy Aide a few years ago, I highly recommend working with a GOOD Physical Therapist for your lower back issues. Few core exercises would lessen your back pain for sure. This is coming from a guy who has LBP as well. Also for the GRC, I owned one a few months ago but had to let go of it cos I got the GR Supra. I recommend a Midpipe and some solid mounts for the transmission. Short shifter kit is highly recommended too!
My mum has a Hyundai with a cable clutch I have to borrow sometimes and the cable snapped on me once and I had to drive 25 miles home with absolutely no clutch, starting on the starter motor and having to really plan my shifts, had to learn quick!

Don't work for toyota but I work for rivian and the reason for the different paint color/no paint in the engine bay is either that part had a repair done, like a missing stud or something and then they just use spray paint to prevent rust where the repair was done. A common thing with new cars is the manufacturers don't expect people to still be working on their own cars so they will leave out painting in hard spots, especially since at least where I work, the whole chassis is dropped into a primer/first coat tank to just cover the entire thing.
Actually just saw the guys comment of how he does it for sienna and highlanders and it's so you can't see the radiator core support behind the grill lol

I had a herniated disc surgery and it only took half a year to be back on my feet better than ever with all the rehabilitation included. I know that's a long time to not be able to compete or do fun activities but you would feel like a new man after it. I feel like you're way overdue to do something about it and watching you struggle is not sth anyone wants to do, we wanna see you do big things. And btw i'm not talking about the "standard" surgery for it because the recovery time is much longer, there's a "new" method to do it through a small hole in your back rather than opening you up, I only had 2 stitches and could walk (with some pain) the moment I woke up.

I actually bought some of tire streets / daily driver performance tires and I am pleasantly surprised by the performance of the tires. I have a big turbo mini making only 250-275whp but I used to spin first and haze second and not anymore along with great life and corner grip.
Toyota does that weird paint thing on seams where you can see the paint through other panels. Would have shown a weird background through the hood latch hole when plastic is back on. Same on the door of my corolla in a spot.
after 1100 miles on mine, the turbo has totally changed up. It sounds way louder, it builds louder and now itll do the stututu if you give it full throttle and dont fully build boost. Like letting it boost then immediately cut throttle it will stututu on command

Hi Adam! Now that I know you read all the comments I will leave you one! Corollas have some of the weirdest quirks that I have seen, I own a 2020 Corolla SE and the Intake duct has big air holes in order to cool down the alternator... The hood prop was also a weird one when I first saw it. I recommend that you do a front bumper swap to the 2020+ Corolla Sedan, It looks so much more aggressive! Although it might interfere with the new Intake sadly :( I really wish I win it since it is the Corolla that my wallet could not afford! Getting it for the price of a T-Shirt would be awesome! Sick side note, I love the Guitar clips recently!
At least the spot on the corolla is in primer. There is a recall on most of the jeep wranglers were we are replacing all the hinges doors and door seals because they didn't get painted/ painted right.

I actually bought some of tire streets / daily driver performance tires and I am pleasantly surprised by the performance of the tires. I have a big turbo mini making only 250-275whp but I used to spin first and haze second and not anymore along with great life and corner grip.

That black spot is probably where the frame holding onto the car is when it goes for paint.
Toyota does that weird paint thing on seams where you can see the paint through other panels. Would have shown a weird background through the hood latch hole when plastic is back on. Same on the door of my corolla in a spot.
after 1100 miles on mine, the turbo has totally changed up. It sounds way louder, it builds louder and now itll do the stututu if you give it full throttle and dont fully build boost. Like letting it boost then immediately cut throttle it will stututu on command
12:13 I don’t work for Toyota. But, that is actually black paint over the white paint. It makes it look clean rather than seeing a harsh transition from the black plastic cover to the open gap white. It’s just the little things to make it somewhat nice.

Hi Adam! Now that I know you read all the comments I will leave you one! Corollas have some of the weirdest quirks that I have seen, I own a 2020 Corolla SE and the Intake duct has big air holes in order to cool down the alternator... The hood prop was also a weird one when I first saw it. I recommend that you do a front bumper swap to the 2020+ Corolla Sedan, It looks so much more aggressive! Although it might interfere with the new Intake sadly :( I really wish I win it since it is the Corolla that my wallet could not afford! Getting it for the price of a T-Shirt would be awesome! Sick side note, I love the Guitar clips recently!

At least the spot on the corolla is in primer. There is a recall on most of the jeep wranglers were we are replacing all the hinges doors and door seals because they didn't get painted/ painted right.
