Don't get me wrong, The drama is hilarious, but seriously, when Greg is coming back? Or at least temporary guest co-host, Eric "that worse one" Helms? 😂😉

Was in a pretty dark spot and the intro was the only thing that helped pull me out and put a smile on my face today.
Thanks for everything you do, always a pleasure to listen

With Iron Culture announcing they are making a lifting documentary , Greg has been sent on a solo mission to end their podcast rambo style and keep The Macro Factor podcast number one.

I'm glad you covered eating disorders, girlfriend uses words like Orthorexia and is a nuisance when I track macros. You are solving issues in my life I can't be bothered to look into.

Adam Ragusea just released a podcast about "Is it actually unhealthy to be overweight?" and he seems interested in mendelian randomization and other statistical techniques - in addition to nutrition, bodybuilding, and other health related topics in general - would you ever consider going on his podcast?

Ok. I see both sides. Being “generous” and giving them Christmas day off?! Really! That should be done without thinking. You’re not a hospital. BUT, at the same time, a freaking private jet?! Wow! If I were you, they would have to present a power point with a detailed justification for one and a reasonable way to pay for it. Owned or chartered.

I think that distinctions between 'fruit' and 'vegetable' are just a characterization ie it's horticultural.

I got the MacroFactor app finally... when is the next Q&A... can the plebians on youtube or subscribers to the SBS email newsletter get an announcement (a week or so in advance)? I don't do FB because I'm in denial about my age, and I don't do Reddit because that is social media for introverts...
Thank you, keep up all the good work!

I heard about all the things you discussed in the latter half of the podcast in regards to integrating mindful eating practices with macro tracking from probably one of the last places most people would expect: Kinobody. Yes, the “IF Bruce Wayne guy.”
Back in 2015, I was just getting started in fitness and even though I’ve consumed much, much more content since then, Kinobody is where I started, and I’m thankful for it because this was the ONE thing I think he was WAY ahead of the times on. He recommended (and I also strongly recommend) reading or listening to Echkart Tolle’s “Practicing the Power of Now.” Very in-line with mindfulness, focusing on being present, observing your surroundings, removing value judgements from your thoughts, etc. and Greg actually went deep into how to integrate that with tracking: i.e. acknowledging hunger but not allowing it to control you (like you stated), being present while eating and savoring the meal, noticing hunger and satiety cues and making mental notes of which foods seemed to fill you up more than others, etc.
He also was one of the first guys saying, “It’s okay to follow your hunger and eat a little more or less calories on any given day. It’s more important to be present and not starve yourself attempting to hit a specific number when dieting if you want to get lean sustainably.”
Throughout all I’ve learned in fitness after following Kinobody before moving on to other people, those lessons about mindfulness and Echkart Tolle have been the most MASSIVE positive takeaways that have made dieting MUCH much easier for me ever since. I know he makes some overhyped claims in regards to IF, but it’s a strong recommendation to just punch in “Kinobody mindfulness” or “Kinobody Eckhart Tolle” into TH-cam and listen to a few tidbits, and also go off and grab the audiobook “Practicing the Power of Now” and listen to it one day while relaxing peacefully. It’s a potential life-changer when it comes to altering your mindset towards becoming more present and acknowledging your emotions rather than being controlled by them.

This is purely anecdotal, but having dated a couple of ADHD people, they didn't behave that much different regarding motivation. They still had the vastly better motivation and performance whenever they found a motivation source that they believed themselves, that was doing it for themselves. For example they struggled a lot with weight loss because they thought they should look a specific way, but they didn't want to live or be that way for real. So essentially their motivation was almost always purely extrinsic in losing weight. So they also just wanted to get rid of it by doing tricks. Very similarly to other kind of people. They found success when they wanted to be lighter weight for themself and wanted to live that way, found enjoyment in the process. Often I saw people with ADHD being very thorough when they had a thing they found interesting and important for themself, they would study the topic very deeply and have a strong understanding about the topic. The only fall in their behavior or planning or executing was often that they needed someone to remind them that little details aren't everything, that if they miss something (for example one day of not matching the calories perfectly or eating perfectly "healthy" meals) doesn't ruin everything and render all their effort useless. And they also needed reminding to be more gentle and forgiving to themself and when they didn't overstress about things, they found quite a bit of success. They also commonly desired that support holding them accountable or joining them in activity and benefited from that. It's good to notice that these could also be partially personality things or tied to depression, however it also seems like people with ADHD and other neurodivergencies have heightened chance of having depression and similar conditions, so how do you tell them completely apart?
So essentially my anecdotal experience with people with ADHD regarding motivation was that they had very similar responses, but their challenges were different or amplified in some terms. And they often behaved in more dichotomical way, one or the other but not the middle grey area.
Macrofactor is very nice other than some confirming of numbers and back button use, trying to swipe the screen or menu depending on where you are, or getting stuck in adding food interface when you check a recipe. Exactly those little friction things. I seem to remember that myfitnesspal, before they messed the menus to something you can't understand, was very intuitive despite more clicks to make choices, it didn't feel like you're facing obstacles when you were adding because the clicks were intuitive and the menus behaved fluidly. One more thing that's problematic with Macrofactor is people who have unorthodox sleep patterns. If you think about your meals by looking at the daily intake and consider if you should eat a meal with added protein or eat a snack at some point, your planning starts getting down the drain because your daily meals are split in two "days" around your sleep. If you log them on accurate times instead of moving half the meals back one day. That makes it really difficult to approximate what kind of meals you're gonna eat on that day/night and where you are with your plan.

In my case tracking has helped me overcome my eating disorder. Especially lately that I've been using Macrofactror, no joke, because for the first time I have objectively seen the impact that eating has on my weight.
