It instantly took me to the beautiful days of my childhood, when I used to watch my cheriyammas , and kitchen maids all sit down in the vaddikkinni and enthusiastically get down to the serious business of making chakka varatti. Varika chakka and thenoliyan varieties were carefully selected and lowered in jute bags to the ground. Then the vadikkini would be bustling with all these women dexterously plucking the fruit from the cut chakka. The Adukkala used to be filled with their happy chatter. Clouds of smoke from the burning mattal would make their eyes water. Inquisitive children, who were eager to taste this delicacy were chased out. I used to marvel at my cheriyamma's patience to bend over the fire.for long hours.. The combination of the heat trapped inside the tiny Adukkala , with its small slatted window, and the intense heat from the fire made this long drawn process indeed a daunting task. As you rightly said , there is a special joy in doing things together in companionable harmony. Those days are sadly gone. But they came to life with sweet beauty in this video. Thank you🙏 If you were to tell stories to children about the "pandu pandu oru kalath oru rajavu undayirrunnu....They will never leave your side. You have an exceptional gift of story telling.
