    Certainly my preferred video to date. The initial comments are perfect to get people motivated into what really matters: practice. Instead of an endless and pointless discussion about the available controls.

    Thank you noobifier! Being a real pilot, it's really hard to break muscle memory that I'm so used to. Using a mouse and keyboard to fly wasn't intuitive for me. I tried dual sticks and I found myself kicking the wall under my desk. I'm currently using the Thrustmaster Warthorg HOTAS and Saitek Pro Combat Rudder Pedals. This is really the only way I can fly in SC.

    I think this is a great video. Each person has their own preferences. I happen to use primarily a gamepad controller, mouse and Voice Attack. I sometimes use the keyboard for certain things. I do this style because of medical issues and am not able to sit up, or stand for a long time and have to lay in bed to play. With my gamepad in left hand (for thrusters, boost and roll), mouse in my right hand (for direction, aim and weapons firing), Voice Attack (for Quantum travel, take off, landing and a hundred other things). I use the "F" key to get in and out of the ship and space bar for "use". This setup works for me, but might not work for others. I find it easy to fly and with gimballed weapons, very easy to aim and take out targets. Everything is at my fingertips, or with voice. A special thank you to Noobifier for his review of voice packs which helped me decide on Verity for Voice Attack.

    Wow I didn't know somebody was making a keyboard like that. Awesome!!
    Excellent video Noob. I can personally attest to the HOJAM and twin stick configs. However, with HOJAM I never used gimbals and always used fixed (cause the mustang is the only ship I fully own...) so I did loose a bit of precise aim there. However, now that I've bought a T16000M FCS for my right hand and use my older Pacific AV8R (also ambidextrous) for my left hand, twin stick is hands down the best config. The control and agility is amazing!

The pedals are analog inputs so I will also use them as Gas and Break for Land vehicules once we get them in patch Alpha 3.0

    so because off my flight style i prefer gimbaled weaponsover fixed, even though you mentioned hojam is useless for you since you fly fixed what is you view on it for someone that uses a keyboard and mouse and gimbaled weapons? is hojam a good way for someone that has never used a flight stick to transition slowly over time (due to price) to using dual stick?

    With Christmas rapidly approaching, many people are about to discover the hobby of R/C whether it be the old standard planes/helicopters or the ever growing quadcopter drone market. These guys are all sinking some serious money into dual stick gimballed radio controllers, like the FrSky Tanaris, which has a plug in pc usb interface that new fliers use to develop their flight skills on simulator software. It would be interesting to see these supported by Star Citizen as many of them allow for mixing and trim rates that could be very useful for racing and dog-fighting. It would also remove an obstacle of entry to the game for the many people already involved in that hobby. I mention this because it looks like Santa is building one for me this year =)

    Being mainly an Xbox player, when I tried staecitizen out for the first time using a M&K I was like a baby monkey with a glock. Reckless. So j use an Xbox one controller and it's nice. I like how I don't have to switch controls from foot to flight. I Still Use keybord for specific commands like raising and lowering shields or toggling my reticle but aside from those. It's comfortable.

    This is interesting. I'm still investigating what to do because I can no longer afford to use my mouse (Due to RSI). From what I've seen of your videos, the dual stick seems very comfortable but I predict it can also be confusing for a long time.

  • @Rickbearcat

    There is some really great advice in this video. Good job on this one as it wraps up everything into a neat package.
    I used to play Gran Turismo a lot and I know that the PS4 controller that I used had analog buttons for gas and brake functions. It worked really well. I can say with confidence right now that in order for Woots keyboard to work in a similar fashion he is going to need to put in progressive weight springs into the design. Having a constant weight to the key press throughout its entire range of motion won't be a good experience. Your finger will not have a sense of where it is at in the travel space. I hope he understands this and figures it out. It must become progressively harder to press as you bottom out the key.

    Great video, very informative about the options for controlling SC. My main Ships for SC will be the MAX and Carrack, so basically Hauling and Exploring. With that in mind I cannot really see a better option than KB and Mouse, as I won't be doing any racing, and my main combat will be defensive as I try to escape Pirates. Are there really any benefits to using Joysticks for Players who don't want to be Combat Pilots?

    • @NOOBIFIER1337
      @NOOBIFIER1337  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @sirlonewolf816
      @sirlonewolf816 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair point, but having manned Turrets, must surely limit the amount of combat the Pilot is involved in during an attack, his main aim is escape with defensive fire. Anyway it was a very informative video, but I personally can see the biggest benefits of Joysticks being for 100% Combat Pilots.

    Hi Noobifier I have a question. I currently own a T16000 and use it along with my keyboard. However, for star citizen I haven't really been proficient in using it (in contrast to Elite), so I often resorted back to mouse and keyboard. That said, I would like to practise and become more skilled with a joystick for SC. I was planning to first practise more with joystick and keyboard to see whether I get to the results I want, but after seeing your video I'm wondering about a dual joystick setup. Would you recommend to go straight for the dual setup or first practise to get your skills up for the single joystick and keyboard combination?

    • @NOOBIFIER1337
      @NOOBIFIER1337  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Tycondero I would suggest dual to fly. Be warned though, you should expect hours of practice in aiming... the flying will come quick, but being on target takes time and can be frustrating

    • @tycondero1647
      @tycondero1647 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I understand. I just ordered a Warthog to use along with my T16000. I gave mouse and keyboard a good try for a couple of months and it worked well, however nothing beats the feel of a proper joystick IMO. I use that for Elite for over 2 years and love it. However, SC is more difficult, as the flight model is significantly different compared to Elite. I understand that it will "suck" first, but hopefully the enjoyment will be greater later. Furthermore, as SC is still in development now is a great time to do some training before the actual game gets more and more advanced ;)

      Random second opinion inbound: :D
      Coming into active playing of Star Citizen, I researched what controller options were out there, and basically went through the steps Noobifier did, but more "on the cheap and in my head" than with actual hardware, alot of it because of videos done by Noobifier and others.
      My first experience with SC flight was with M/KB and while I got good results, didn't give me the flight "feel" I wanted out of the experience. I then went looking for HOTAS setups and had almost settled on the X-56 because of the analog sticks built into the HOTAS for the full 6Dof control, when I encountered the Dual-Stick setups. The problem with those was at the time there was a bit of a drought on the T16k going on, with most stand alone examples going for close to $80US if not more. At one point there wasn't much of a difference in price between the X-56 and two T-16Ks. Then I found a couple T16Ks on Amazon for $55 ea. and free shipping, and I took the plunge.
      A full control suite, for half the price of my next choice, and a quarter or less (probably quite a bit less, considering mounting and such) than the gold standard of a dual Warthog setup.
      Currently I'm seeing prices of about $70-ish on the T16K stand alone, with ~$110 on the FCS HOTAS pack. Even with those prices, you can get a dual stick setup, with throttle for backup for about 2/3ds the cost of the X-56 (@ $250)
      My own opinion on the stick, its the "cheapest of the good sticks," rather than the "best of the cheapest."
      Not sure if the distinction actually makes it out of my head there...

I have in inventory plenty of s3 and s2 weapons... when I remove weapon and gimbal and try to add something, no weapons is availble only s3 gimbals. I really need help with this... I spend a lot of time researching and I'm paying the cost of downgrade one size even when Im using hotas config.

    From my own personal experience i got very good with mouse and keyboard, but i agree that there is definitely a cap to that, i will probably be making a switch to a gamepad. I dont have space to use joysticks so that is an avenue that i dont plan on going with for a long time. Are there any gamepad users out there who can share their pvp experience with me? How has gamepad worked for you?

    My hands have memorized everything on my HOTAS. I have my HOTAS screwed down by my armrests and no longer think about any buttons that need pressing or thumbsticks moved. It all happens by instinct now. If I was to buy a new model of HOTAS I would have to relearn all the controls.

    An excellent video. However, I am old and not likely to be a straight up dog-fighter. I have, however decided to be the best damn Eclipse pilot I can be. I will not be standing for hours at a time (did I mention I was old) and have combed the auto wrecker yards for a Cadillac CT6 driver seat from which I will bomb the universe into submission.
    .
    I would like to know if you have tried any controlling with the G13? I would guess that straight up head to head dog-fighting is out of the question as the thumb would slip off the micro joystick a lot. But I don't see this as a big deal with the bigger less maneuverable ships that I am planning to devote to. I may even try to make a right handed G13 so I can build them both right into the armrests of the cockpit. Can you picture a Cadillac seat with joysticks? Now with 2 G13's. I'm picturing a captains chair on the Enterprise. :D
    .
    My precise question is would YOU be able to pilot say a Redeemer or an Eclipse with a G13 and a Warthog just as well as you could with dual Warthogs? My train of thought is "there is only so much you can do to make a bus handle like a Ferrari".

    Currently flying M+KB because I have 3 broken X-65F hotas units though my soldering station and meter arrived so I be trying to fix those. At the same time a pair of T.16000Ms should arrive tomorrow. Main reason for that is A I want to try it and B I do not like the use of pedals I have tried and it just never really synced up nicely. O and yeah I have flown with a controller to, as I have one so tried it. (And use voice attack with HCS profiles).
    In short I been down the path and still going to see what works, if dual sticks work I do however think I would wish I could make it work with two X-65F sticks cause force sensing sticks are amazing in my opinion.

    • @NOOBIFIER1337
      @NOOBIFIER1337  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Carde force sensing or force feedback? I'm interested

    • @Lintary
      @Lintary 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Force sensing, the X-65F sticks do not move they simply sense the force you apply and this can be tweaked into fine detail. It is to many really a love it or hate it kind of deal because you get no feedback from your movements because the stick does not move, but on the flip side you get a lot more control and instant control because any change in force applied is instant as there is nothing to be moved back and forth.
      I really like it and when I compare using my X-65F to an X-55/56 it is clear which I prefer.
