After 50 hours minute mark a clock starts ticking which counts down the time towards full understanding of a simple fact that the game is as wide as an ocean, as deep as a puddle. Doesn't mean that its bad, it just means that it has nothing to offer past a certain point, unless you enjoy.. grinding or exploring just for the sake of it. That or just base building in general. The stuff that people build over this game is insane.
Did you know during space battles if you press and hold fly backwards you lock onto enemies ships, not sure if you were already doing it but it makes space combat a heck of a lot easier. 👍
@@MrSaviorHDit was an absolute lie on day 1 my brother had bought it day 1 and got disappointed but when I played it in lockdown and my brother saw me play the game he got shocked and reinstalled the game.
@@muzamilnabinadroo The issues at the drop were because SONY refused to postpone the release date that HG had requested due the HG studio getting flooded on Christmas day three and a half months earlier and they lost all their hard drives at the studio containing everything. What we got at the games launch was what they were able to piece together from their laptops they had at home with them over the Christmas holiday.
the redemption story of this game is truly one of the best in video game history. Would have been so easy for them to count the money and leave it at that but to pump out so much additional content is such a rare thing. Deserves all the praise and good fortune they can get!
While they deserve credit for not totally abandoning the game. I think many people latched onto that narrative and ran away with it. The fact is that the game remains shallow and deeply flawed. The world generation is great, it was at launch, it remains so, it's the core feature. Outside of that though, you could see everything in a few hours. Quests have very little variety and are mostly comprised of go here, talk to this guy, go there scan that, etc. The economic system in game is shallow and easily exploited. Base building is it's own separate thing with no real purpose. The story quests are highly repetitive, reusing the same assets over and over again. Combat progression exists via various mods and weapons and such, but is pointless. You're exposed to all the hardest enemies in the game immediately, which you can also therefore defeat immediately, quite easily actually. So the progression is there... for what? There's nothing to fight. Again, while the planet generation and variety is great, *everything else* is not, there are what... 3 station models? In the whole multiverse of the game? Sentinels and other factions reuse the same few buildings constantly everywhere and in exactly the same way. Ships have some randomly changing looks but little real variety. The end game for most people winds up being just looking up seeds and waiting around in stations for the ships you want to show up. I didn't play it at launch, I watched the controversy and decided against giving it a try. Last year I picked it up since there seemed to be agreement that it was now worth peoples time. As a 5ish hour fun little visual experience... sure, maybe... but it was that at launch as well. The gameplay though is just a series of unrelated activities with no depth or variety. I don't personally see that anything has really changed substantively to be honest, it's a mess. I think people have been so abused by the AAA game industry in the last decade or so that any time a company *doesn't* shit on your face they think it must be the second coming of Christ and lose all objectivity.
@@entelin cheers for the insights, I'm yet to play it myself but it's on the backlog radar for games I'd like to try when I can find the time. Yes, my impression from the gameplay I've seen is that it's perhaps a bit sandbox-y and maybe hence is not overly deep with it's mechanics or gameplay - though I'm impressed with the seemingly broad range of different things you can do (that seems ever growing with each update). My original comment was more inline with your last paragraph about the state of AAA gaming and the constantly diluted games we get these days that are stripped of features and beat you over the head with paid DLC, season passes and shallow 'improvements' (if they are an annual release game). The fact a small development team can continually update and push out content for their game (after it's less than ideal debut and fall from grace) is a genuine rare breath of fresh air (which is where my admiration and desire to try the game out come from). Most other studios or publishers would take the pre order and day 1 sales money, maybe do a few half baked updates or DLC packs and move onto the next money maker project. To the No Man Skies devs (my perception from the outside looking in), it seems to be a genuine passion project for these devs and for that, I can only tip my proverbial hat in praise and recognition.
@@entelinThis very much sounds like the type of comment I see on Steam from people who haven't played the game past the first 2-3 hours or that have vicariously experienced the game through TH-cam videos. The game has a tonne of customisation, there are many MANY systems for automation. You have incentives to explore. There are handcrafted events and experiences outside of the core loop. There is also just a lot of content once you get the hang of the basics, and a lot to strive towards thanks to that. No Man's Sky has become a sandbox like Minecraft, you have to take its systems and find your own end goal through it, and it WILL reward you materially for doing so (unlike Minecraft where it's mostly just for the sake of self-gratification).
@@Dynamo33 I played the game all the way through. Saw some pretty sweet bases, built my own, made a factory, got a freighter (which funny enough was the largest/best one first shot). Went to some other iterations as well. Minecraft has it's limitations but it does have progression in the base game, mods are really what has kept mc alive though. But I stand by everything I said, you said it yourself, it's mostly a sandbox. There is no real progression, it has activities, but pretty quickly you aren't really working towards any real goal, especially in the combat department. A lot of systems are there, but they are all dead ends, and most have no relevance to any other part of the game.
@@randconfig8626 It has a series of systems which have little to do with each other and no depth or gameplay purpose. It's basically a series of mini-games. For example, the ship/combat system isn't bad, pretty decent basic module system, you could grind out all the best modules, etc, but.... for what? There's nothing you need them for, nothing you can't kill the moment you launch off your first planet. And with just some basic modules what was immediately doable, becomes trivial. In otherwords, there's no gameplay progression. The same is true for everything else as well. The moment you do anything significant in the pursuit of credits, that problem is solved forever. The base building system is cool, but doesn't really serve an actual in-game purpose, same with freighters, and so on. There are reputation systems, but that mostly ties into the acquisition of modules, which themselves are unneeded, etc. Getting the ships you want is mostly just waiting around in particular stations potentially reloading the save for hours, there's no gameplay around it. The story content itself is just revisiting the same station model over and over again, I forget what it's called. In a very real sense, you have seen almost the whole game in your first few hours.
Cod updates are free, what are you talking about? Cyberpunk dlc is free, what you are talking about? Fall out 76 expansions are free, what are you talking about?
I think developers should focus on making the first hours more fun for the next update. redesign the first hours from the ground up, make it more fun to capture more players.
Yep, honestly if they rework the beginning part of the game (the part where u have to fix ur ship) i think it definitely improve the game by a lot imo. Maybe add something exciting and stimulating before it or even completely rewrite the beginning part.
Yeah I'm really trying to power through that dreadful beginning. I hear and see how great the game becomes but with All these new releases I haven't had the time or motivation to stick with No man's sky. The opening sequence is extremely boring.
You don't have to build your first base on a specific planet. You can build it anywhere. I just flew to a planet I thought looked really cool and had tons of resources and did it there. Also, small tip, build it next to a place with a launching pad and a galactic trade terminal. That way, you don't expand fuel when you take off and you can trade without having to teleport or fly to a space station.
The fuel note is a game changer. You’re somewhat limited on where to build the first base. Since you don’t have the hyperdrive yet allowing you to go to other systems. So you just have the 5 or so planets to chose from.
NMS has made the greatest comeback in video game history. It's crazy how so complicated it gets especially if you have a ton of time invested in this game.
@@igortolstov487 Yes, the base game is really tedious and boring (namely collecting materials while avoiding sentinels and dealing with environmental hazards). But I think the POI's, missions, and big space battles are the best parts of the game. I haven't played in a while, but I just came back and discovered Titan Worms and they scared the crap out of me. XD Overall, the positives outweigh the negatives nowadays.
It’s amazing to see how they actually created true multiplayer. I remember around the time it came out I found someone, and they were literally just an orb
@@landonr.5841 Haha! I learned to never pr-order games, so I didn't play it at launch for obvious reasons. I first played about 2 years ago when I saw good reviews and I've been playing off and on ever since.
I just did a quick read of this game's Wikipedia page. It's commendable how Hello Games learned from their mistakes and totally changed their PR strategy after the disastrous launch. They correctly identified over-hype as the problem that created most of the backlash, so every update since then has received little to no press before its release. They put their heads down, develop the update, and don't show something unless they actually have something to show. The results, I think, speak for themselves.
I think they simply ran out of funds in 2016 and had no choice but to release an absolutely unfinished and unpolished mess in order to get more money to continue funding the game.
@@unrealsimon93 My understanding of it was that Sony pushed them to release early due to the hype surrounding it. These days whenever they are about to release new information Sean Murrey (the director) tweets out a single emoji that is kind of vaguely relevant to the new update. The subreddit loses their freaking minds every time. All the hype with none of the risk of over promising.
@@unrealsimon93they had no choice because Sony gave them a deadline and they missed it (losing half of their progress in a flood didn’t help). Sony didn’t want to delay the game because of the hype, so they forced the launch.
What I love about this video as a bit of a veteran no mans sky player is how well you reflect the way you set yourself one goal in game then end up on an absolute Sci fi odyssey with so many twists and turns. Definitely a forever game
It's so easy to get caught doing a loop of something entirely separate from what you originally set out to do because you enjoy it or you like the rewards and I love that.
@@danielbueno8474 yeah dude i only redownloaded it today and its so good,i was on my way to a planet but went to its moon instead and i was the first one to see this creature and i named it moondog
I really don't understand how could anybody call a game with so many repeating patterns 'forever game' when it's marketed as 'every planet is unique'. I finished the core game in 1 week and just disappointed by how every single galaxy or system has same planet and creature types/models. Sometimes I'm feeling like people are way too blind than my expectations. Have fun anyways.
yeah no shot lmao. Unless you wanted No Man Sky for No Man Sky, starfield aint doing any of that shit. Starfield do Bethesda RPG, which is a whole different beast that no other dev has managed to replicate.
@@vargrhelsing8042 well the funny thing is, is starfield has all of the stuff he showed in this video and more it jus doesn't have flying down on to the planets cause the planets actually have content on them other than randomised missions.
Nah they serve entirely different demographics. No Man's Sky is an exploration game. Starfield is am RPG (and a Bethesda RPG at that). Starfield is more for people who wanted a bigger outer worlds and mass effect with the longevity and freedom of Skyrim. No Man's Sky is for people who wanted Minecraft in Space.
after a few hours in starfield, I dont think it's fair to compare both games. I played it without seeing ANY reviews or opinions on it and I really like Starfield. It's just more of your typical bethesda RPG and no mans sky seems to be more of a sandbox type. That beeing said watching how you can just lift off with your ship, cruise around the planet and jump to other planets seems really really fun. Compare that to the absolute boring "jumping around using the starmap and watching cutscenes" travel mechanic in Starfield, I get how people could be dissapointed when comparing it to no mans sky. But the dialogue and missions and general content in Starfield is awsome. But might just check out No mans Sky again after playing it 1 day after release and absolutly hating it.
@@CallMeOddly If you took the universe generation and mechanics from NMS and combined it with the RPG elements and storytelling (and to some extent the graphics) of Starfield, you'dd have the perfect space exploration game
Once you realize too that NMS has space, land, and underwater content, its really a great time. Taking the time to build something cool on a planet, uploading it and then seeing what other folks have built is really amazing
I made a base close to a heavily trafficked area [it’s near a portal]. People actually have stopped by to check it out lol. Really cool. I put health & hazard refils, searchable lootcrates, and farmables inside lol. Something for everyone :)

And now all this noise about Starfield. It might be good but I have a PS4 and I'm enjoying this game. Do what you want, no strict storyline to follow. Updates constantly providing new content. I think I'll stick with this game!
@@thetrashcanman7537 Well there's nothing wrong with that. I can afford most consoles and gaming computers but choose to keep using my PS4. I've bought games for ten dollars or less that we're sixty dollars when first released. I don't have all the latest and maybe or maybe not greatest games or equipment but I save money plus get a lot of time to review videos of gameplay of releases that I might be interested in. So go ahead and laugh but I'm making good use of my money and not wasting it.
Yeah they're called "Freighters" in the game. it holds all your ships and allows NPC ships to dock too. You can buy the NPC ships, trade with them, or just hire them as Wingmen. The carrier comes with a complement of supporting frigates (which you can hire) that protect it and do side quests on your behalf. The carrier interior itself can be customized to whatever you want: multiple floors, storage, industrial tools, Flora tools, mission givers, and control of your frigate missions. You can also add you own personal touches like bedrooms, lounges, bars & DJ booths, and trophy rooms. The game is awesome, and you can play for 10 minutes or 8 hours without getting "Kicked" from the server because it's based on a single-player architecture.
People originally thought it was a bait and switch scam, but no, the devs really care and that's one of the most important aspects of a game. Bad leadership leads to either bad games, or no games. I'm glad they stuck it through and kept at it.
@@manictiger No Man's Sky didn't suffer from bad leadership, it was inexperienced leadership contending with a self inflicted concoction of expectation creep mixed with scope creep. It actually takes good leadership to reconvene and turn around what would've been the death knell for any other game developer. Compare this with the tragedy of Anthem, and that was from a seasoned developer with a history of large scale games under it's belt.
The greatest part about it is that the dev team is so small and they've sold so many copies of the game that they can work on this game just for the sake of it (like they have been) while living comfortably. At this point, pretty much all their promises with the game at launch have been fulfilled and then some, they're doing it for their own fun at this point. It's a mentality big game companies would never understand.
What the hell... this is No Man's Sky now? That's insane. Everything seems so beautiful and there seems to be so much to do without feeling like a chore.
I have put over 100 hours into this game and I haven’t seen half the things you have in a 30 minute TH-cam video. I love how much there truly is to do in silly infinite space game
The most ridiculous part of NMS is that it has a VR mode built in and it is freaking amazing in VR. The flying is satisfying and hard and just exploring worlds is crazy immersice for me.
Space combat in NMS in VR is an amazing experience. I am crap in desktop mode, but in VR I'm an ace pilot. Just being able to use your actual head to look around for your target is such a step up.
@@kasuraga ED seems like the exact opposite of NMS. ED started out so promising and then just fizzled out while NMS was a disaster that now seems to be universally loved. The fact that a common part of progression is building your own farms and the such so you can make money is just so nice, sure you can do whatever you want but having an actual reason to engage with the building side of the game is really nice
Completed the campaign today, got all the goodies and never once farmed ( can't even do it properly ) Nanites u can freighter farm Money - 1 nice sentinel ship sets you for the game etc It's cool seeing big ass farms tho
One of the few underdog stories i actually like, when you know the context behind it and see how much they truly care about the game it truly makes me remember why i want to make games in the future
Ye. I wrote off NMS as a scammy cashgrab when it came out in it's sorry state, BUT nobody interested in doing a cashgrab would then spend the next six years providing free updates for the game. So it was, genuinely, a combination of overambition and incredibly bad PR sense (i.e. the multiplayer lie)... but actually still a passion project. Though there's one big downside to NMS's comeback: It gives false legitimacy to all the other cash grabby 'oh, just give us X years, we'll turn this game awesome just like NMS did' attempts.
@@Alblaka probably to avoid fucking lawsuits, same reason chronicles of elyria is still 'technically' in development... difference here being the developers actually exist. doubt they'd post-launch develop NMS as much as they have if it wasn't for the owner lying his literal ass off on TV trying to sell the game. "free updates", "passion project" lol... I want to live in your world, it seems awesome. .
@@leoshest9651 You really don't know the full context, watch Internet Historian's video "The Engoodening of No Man's Sky." No threat of lawsuits would be strong enough to force out six years of content; six years is a *long* time and, as far as I can tell, no other badly released game in recent times has done something close to that.
I can't understate how insane NMS's redemption arc is. It went from being the disappointment of a lifetime to one of my favorite games and I was there for the whole thing. 2023 NMS really is what we hoped for back in 2016.
SO VERY NOT RECOMMENDED unless you know what you're doing, though. Turning the tutorial off in the custom options will just literally stick you on a planet with some basic starter stuff (some of which you'd normally learn through tutorials), and the game tells you jack-all about what to actually do. So please, please don't do this if this is your first time or if you hadn't played in years. Without the tutorial, the game is rather confusing and difficult to learn, and there's plenty of people on Steam Discussions asking inane questions because they either skipped the tutorial or didn't read the little messages it pops up explaining how things work and then they get mad at the game because they couldn't be bothered to actually learn it. NMS is not hard to play, but it DOES ask you to pay attention the first time through so it can teach you how it works. It's intuitive once you get to know it, it feels natural... but without the tutorial to guide you, you're probably going to feel so lost and/or end up doing everything the hard way.
@@Dhalin Yes, absolutely do it if it's your first time playing/been a while since you last played. Thank you for adding that! All the hype around Starfield, oddly, got me curious on getting back into No Man's Sky. I'm one of those that played the release version. I still remember how that game was both incredibly barren AND incredibly unoptimized. Was burned out of the game entirely from there, was even on the skeptical camp when the "it's good now!" hype is starting to go around few years back. Finally going back at it five days ago, and discovering the mountains of new content and gameplay features they added in(and the fact that I've yet to encounter a hard crash on my 30+ hours of gametime) is actually quite a treat.

My first couple of hours were spent digging through mountains,, I found several cool caves. They probably knew that people would have fun with that so they added underground generation as well.
I find that I avoid those planets with the big tall mountains like the plague. If you're there for resources, you're going to have a "fun" time jetpacking up and down endless sheer cliffs, and God Forbid you're there for a quest because quest markers are almost impossible to find. @frank234561 I mean If you want to explore empty planets with nothing really on them and no characters who say anything after rhe first line of dialogue be my guest 😊 you can always do the fetch quests which are the main part of nms atm cause they jus keep adding more and more random ones to call it content instead of making new enemies or any sort of cities and towns or even dungeon like things on the planets but okay.
@@leafstormblaze9449 Yeah ok, says someone who must not have played NMS in a year. This game is honestly pretty incredible tbh. Especially if you’ve read C.S. Lewis’ “Out of the Silent Planet” or are generally a sci-fi book fan it’s really just top notch
NMS most strongly reminds me of the first few chapters of the first Robot City book. It spends a fair bit of time with the main character exploring the mining base with only himself, a slowly depleting oxygen pack, and a base managed only by robots. It gives a feeling of being alone but not in the sense of being lonely...just a silent reverent exploration. That part of the series stuck with me the most, and NMS *excels* at recreating that feeling especially early on when you're just getting used to it.
@@Fenriswaffle man I love this game. It just feels like a scifi literature fan made it instead of another "I watched Star Wars growing up and like Next Generation so here's something like that"

Loved the review, one huge thing that was added with the Echoes update is they added a *huge* graphical upgrade to the PSVR 2 and without exaggeration, the game looks as good as it does on a flat screen, INSIDE the PSVR 2. Everything is so crisp, clear, and HD. It's such a surreal experience to do all of this inside VR while maintaining that gorgeous next-gen look,if you ever get a chance to check it out I know you'll be blown away!
I played this for the first time last night since my 20 hours at launch and its incredible what they've done with it. I'm still very early on so haven't seen 99% of the new stuff they've put in the game but even the basics are in a completely different league to where they were in 2016. If you told me it was No Man's Sky 3 I was playing, I'd believe it.
You are already a legend in the TH-cam community in my eyes no one has entertained me with this game like you have today thank you and I wish you all the luck on your TH-cam journey Also the part we’re you were running away from the creature that looked like a group of d*cks was funny asf
You make me happy to hear this. I'm more than amazed that people keep this game alive. Hello games is unmatched and was AHEAD of its time for what the game allows you to do.
It's even more impressive when you consider Hello Games is a pretty small studio. The rate at which they put out quality updates for such a small team is staggering. It puts so many other big budget corporate games to shame, where you might be lucky to get even an ounce of this kind of post launch support
They could have simply not bothered and profited tens or maybe even hundreds of millions just off the initial sales, which many companies have done before them, but they didn't and it's commendable
@FalloutFM I know Sean Murray got a lot of shit after the launch but he definitely cares about this game and I think he always has. I don't think he's as awful as a person as people tried painting him. He certainly overpromised, but I don't think he ever went out there trying to make a cash grab and bail with the money. I think he believed in the ideas he had and it was way too ambitious for their small team, but he has made it right
I remember hearing about NMS when it first came out. It looked neat but, as many said, empty. Many game devs would've given up. But by keeping with NMS for 7 years, Hello Games has made THE definitive space exploration game. Now I usually wait around for a major update to come out before I play, but I always really enjoy the game when I do play
To my knowledge I believe you can build your first base computer on a different planet other than the one you’re on when it prompts you to follow that quest line.
@MrSaviorHD i guess i was lucky to have a paradise planet in my tutorial star system, then. I noped out of the inhospitable planet i started in and built my tutorial base in the nearby paradise planet.
I love this game and IF any paid DLC comes along, I'll be there to support these guys. They've done an amazing job bringing out the potential of this game and I hope they continue for many years to come.
I wish I could experience this game for the first time again, exploring the worlds and trying to find the perfect place, or the perfect ship, was just amazing.

Little tip: The game is always buggy following the launch of a new update. It always happens. The new Echoes update only came out like a couple weeks ago. Should have waited another month or two to let the updates settle down the bugs.
Crazy timing. Just yesterday i loaded up NMS again after what feels an eternity. Safe to say i didn't know what the hell i was doing, but even just flying through space and checking out new planets was hella fun.
Agreed with your video, I picked up the game again when I got my steam deck this year and was hooked to the game and surprised to see how much it's changed for the better
It's sad that the multiplayer desync is still a huge issue, most missions just break if you're trying to play with friends. The learning curve has become quite massive, and it doesn't help that the game keeps blasting you with new stuff throughout learning the basics. It's still a fun time! VR Is great too.
Lots of people (including the guy making this video) bash the tutorial, but really. The tutorial literally walks you through most of basic concepts behind the game, and if you pay attention, you shouldn't feel lost at all. It's when players get in a hurry (like the guy making this video did with the base) is when players miss things. Read all the little popup messages and just do as it asks for the first couple hours. _It's not that bad_ and you'll be on your way before you know it. You can have as many bases as you want, building one on your first planet isn't going to hurt you, in fact, it is probably beneficial to do so because every planet type has a unique resource on it and being able to teleport to whatever kind of planet you started on is a good thing because you will probably eventually want the resources on that planet. Rather than going "shoot, I need a planet that has dioxite (or whatever other resource) on now...", you can just teleport to that starter base you built that was on a planet that featured those resources. In fact, I like to drop little huts with teleporters on one of each planet type so when I need a specific resource, I can teleport to somewhere that has said resource immediately.
This video is perfect ! I haven’t seen a video summarizing the potential content of the game in such a good way for a very long time ! You simply showed your experience as a player discovering the game’s features and shared your emotions while narrating your adventures in a passionate way ! Showing us what we can expect as a new player, this is what I was searching for. Congrats !
I play this game a lot. The only weird thing I've had happen is multiplayer stuff like spawning problems and phasing ships. But I reckon they'll have that fixed in the next patch. Multiplayer is fairly new to the game, and I can only imagine the headache of not only AI-powering spawning but then putting that in a multiplayer server-side vs client-side context.
I was very addicted to this game when it first came out, I was one of the rare few people who still enjoyed it, came back in 2019 and started a new save and now in 2023 I might do it again! This actually looks so insane since last time I played. There definitely weren't giant worms last time, or crystals in the sky, and I don't remember expeditions at all & base building looks a lot cooler now. I think its great how much time the game devs have put into this game all these years later.
Okay look ive never played this game before but when you cut to the scene where you were taming and riding glurmp, I literally screamed "YOU CAN RIDE GLURMP?!?! HOW MUCH IS NO MANS SKY?!" paused and opened steam and bought it. Great vid.
Can you imagine my surprise after making it through 17 minutes of this video and realizing you're not already a household game-documentary name? Incredibly high quality video, and I'll give No Man's Sky a second chance. Thanks man!
One of my favorite things about this game is that it's vr compatible, and the worlds, spaceships and everything look incredible and makes even more for to play
The way to avoid a spacefight with sentinel fighters is to cruise in atmosphere (just above ground really) for a while till they lose track of you, then go up and out.
truly a show of love, passion, and dedication to finally making the game they always wanted. it took them some time but i remember sean murray being a puppet for whatever company was giving him money and hyping the game way too much. glad to see something great came out of this game all along
Honestly, I think he and the company in general just got too caught up in the hype and promised WAY more than they could feasibly deliver before launch. Their determination in building the game into the vision it was is really what got me back into playing it.
It sounds like you're going off of what others said about it more so than following the news yourself, and you're somewhat correct - I was following NMS for about 2 years before it released, having watched interviews with Sean Murray talking about the procedural generation of terrain, flora and flaura, and how level of detail etc is calculated as you approach or leave planets, and that idea in itself of infinite possibilities and exploration is what drew me and the passion that Sean presented it with - then Hello Games kept delaying the launch until Sony pushed them to just release it, and it was nowhere near what it had been hyped up to be. I didn't buy it on launch and it wasn't until the 3rd update or so that I actually bought it, I could tell they were making up for broken promises. And the core idea of infinite possibilities and exploration kept me sweet while the intent to make it its full vision was a bonus. I don't think the money was a big drive for Sean and the team, it was just a means to realise their vision, but the deadlines and expectations of Sony hindered its reputation.
@@CoopsNME It is so easy to discern art for monetary gain's sake over art created out of passion -- one is garbage and the other is often groundbreaking and transcendent . Usually why mods are so incredible , too , since they are worked on for free by people who have that passion to simply make their dream a reality with no concern for timetables or money . Just good art .
@@jackcooksey3224 In part. That was definitely one of the main issues with the game's PR. But another was that he was being given so many high-profile interviews where he was asked questions like "can you do [x]" and those were definitely planned for release, but Sean made the mistake of saying "yes" and so on. Part of it was lying, intentionally or otherwise, but that's not entirely the whole issue. As you said, they got ahead of themselves a lot. They really could have used a spokesperson who wasn't so heavily involved in the game and, honestly, so uncomfortable with public speaking and big crowds. But that's all in the past now. It's time we stopped worrying about the past and those mistakes back in pre-launch 2016. The developers have earned it tenfold and it deserves to be remembered not for a shitty launch, but rather how hard they've worked to make a game they clearly love making (and I definitely love playing).
I picked it up after about a year off and I love how much there is to do. I do get a bit frustrated that I can't remove side quests I don't wanna do, but at this point I just do them anyway and end up finding at least some fun about it that makes it worth the time XD I don't even mind the slow start imo, it helps ease you into the absolute bulk of content that's open to you.

top notch commentary. i loved the little gamer adhd moments, broke up any possible motony and kept the review engaging the whole way through. not to mention, you've made the game like it really is worth a second shot. my download's already halfway. thanks for the review :)
I don't know if someone already said this, but during space fights you can recharge your ship's shield. (Press X on keyboard and then go in the "Recharge" menu like when you're on land). It's pretty useful to avoid death.
My favorite part of NMS was when the game glitched and mixed my s tier fighter ship with my s tier storage ship. Aka, gave my fighter like 40+ storage slots with all the benefits of the fighter.
Starfield has truly been the most clever marketing campaign for No Man's Sky I've ever seen. I redownloaded No Man's Sky after playing Starfield and it has been incredible. The transitions in and out of planets alone is such a satisfying feeling
Legitimately just bought No Man’s Sky 5 minutes ago for $30. I was waiting for it to go on sale before but Starfield’s $70 MSRP showed me how much of a bargain it is lmao
That kinda lower planetary approach is absolutely my favorite as well… it’s so satisfying to see the bulk of the planet above you with the literal twist at the end to “correct” the horizon that feels consistently slick. When they patched in low atmosphere flying was definitely a turning point for me. Back in my day, we weren’t able to crash into mountains… we mined minerals and named flora/fauna totally alone in an infinite procedurally generated universe and considered ourselves lucky to have the opportunity 😉
Absolutely! The space stations and some of the freighters are a direct tip of the hat to Chris Foss. And they just look amazing. I've screen shot so many. Kind of wish Chris Foss could see this game.
@@Jolgeable Same, man. I'm worried I'd like it and lose my eyesight and get nauseous but not wanna quit 😋 Something disconcerting about having technology glued right in front of your eyes and brain.
@Jolgeable I played it on my Rift S, and it's insane. The game feels so intense, and flying is almost vomit inducing if you are too rough on the controls. You can actually use the ships' virtual throttle. It's fantastic. Using the vehicles and mechs is also awesome. Sadly meta bricked the rift s with some updates.
I just started playing this the other day and the game is amazing. I'm big into the whole space exploration scene even though i kinda gave up on EVE online after a month or so. I should probably continue the story since i get side tracked on side quests pretty easily lol. Great video
Pro tip. You don't have to take the first Frigate given to you for free. You can warp to other galaxies and after I think 5 warps you will be put in another battle. This allows you to keep trying till you get the rank for the frigate you want as well as the design. I believe there is like 3 or 4 different styles and each style has like 3 variants. Usually just changes how big the ship is.
I've recently gotten back into it, and I'm so glad I did. I was one of the unlucky ones who preordered the game, which hurt when it came out and sucked. The comeback on it is astounding. I don't think any other game ever has been able to pull off what NMS has.
Great video! Being a Day 1 player. Ive have never been disappointed with this game. For me, it was the exploration and the potential. I could see the future when playing and with every update, I've just been in awe asking, "what will they do next?"
My main save has 150+ hours, and yet there is still more that I can do. The fact that Hello Games persisted to make this game what is it today is incredible.
@@User-pu2hz it depends on exactly what missions you're doing. I'm not even out to do every mission because they can get repetitive, but it's the vast majority of other things that make it interesting. You could find unique encounters everywhere, space battles, planetary discoveries, ship and multi-tool hunting; especially more niche _personal_ projects and missions with finding a perfect planet to build cool bases on or finding a cool looking creature. They've recently even added this device called the Wonder display, where you could display your discoveries as a scaleable, life-sized hologram that includes planets, fauna, flora, and minerals on your bases to essentially display all of said weird ass rocks, plants, and animals you'll discover. Meaning, using THOSE as a sort of discoverable decoration pieces for your base. I now have the incentive to find more things now for that one reason, and that's just one thing you can do! That's basically what I mean by "STILL will find new things to do" because there's genuinely a shit ton the more I didn't know when you follow your own path, away from those missions that are usually only for resources anyway. No Man's Sky is great for wandering around the universe, doing whatever I want, and leaving behind the occasional base in the more beautiful corners of the galaxy.

After 50 hours minute mark a clock starts ticking which counts down the time towards full understanding of a simple fact that the game is as wide as an ocean, as deep as a puddle. The stuff that people build over this game is insane.
Did you know during space battles if you press and hold fly backwards you lock onto enemies ships, not sure if you were already doing it but it makes space combat a heck of a lot easier. 👍

the redemption story of this game is truly one of the best in video game history.

Damn that is a big brain idea.
I've played NMS for nearly 100 hours and never knew you didn't expend fuel launching from a pad... thanks for the tip!

The fact that they took the criticism (justly so) and actually worked towards a game that fit the vision is both inspiring and incredible
@@unrealsimon93 My understanding of it was that Sony pushed them to release early due to the hype surrounding it.

after a few hours in starfield, I dont think it's fair to compare both games. I played it without seeing ANY reviews or opinions on it and I really like Starfield. That beeing said watching how you can just lift off with your ship, cruise around the planet and jump to other planets seems really really fun. 2000h in the game, still haven't achieved/acquired everything. At this point, I'm not sure how to even describe the game, because the amount of content is insane. I suppose at its core, you're a space scientist, exploring the universe and making discoveries along the way. But then....
- Warp, Fly, Land, Walk, Drive, Creature Ride, Swim on any planet, throughout countless solar systems... explore everywhere in 3rd or 1st person
- Find scorching planets with volcanos, toxic infestations & rain, freezing tornado blizzards, and tropical paradises with stunning night sky or with lightning. Even has meteor strikes!
- Dive in caves and find mysterious objects or dig your own den to avoid the dangers outside.
- Meet aliens, discover their culture, learn their history & language, help them with missions. Discuss opportunities or places to discover.
- Discover strange monsters including sandworms & dinosaurs, black market traders and crashed derelicts as you travel across an infinite space. Capture the monsters and use them as pets to help you on your journey.
- Build bases anywhere with multiple floors for anything you want. Teleport to them with ease and store resources as you explore the galaxy
- Setup the electronics in each base with lights, switches and proximity sensors. Party it up with your new light and DJ show or setup electronics to open things automatically
- Cook meals for you and your guests with crafted meal recipes from animals you herded yourself on your farm. Enjoy the bonus from eating various ingredient combinations
- Trade throughout the universe; buy stock items and warp between Space stations, Airports and minor settlements to make money
- Or become a fighter and hunt traders, other pirates, or the law. Use an emergency jump and get the hell outta there
- Get an Aircraft Carrier to store your Fighters, Haulers and Exploration vessels. Customize the floating base with your own personal rooms and equipment. Trade with aliens that land in your new Mother Ship, invite them as Wingmen, or buy their ships out completely
- Build up your fleet of Cruisers to protect you and the Carrier. Send them out to various missions and reap the rewards or suffer the damage from mistakes
- Land directly on the Cruisers of your fleet and gather their profits or explore their engine room to repair the damage
- Upgrade your Carrier, ships, vehicles, guns & backpack with better shields, weapons, and storage space.
- Join multiplayer in all of the above and blow your mind.
And now all this noise about Starfield. It might be good but I have a PS4 and I'm enjoying this game. Do what you want, no strict storyline to follow. Updates constantly providing new content. I think I'll stick with this game!
@@JimDog794you have a ps4 so you got no choice 😂 🤣😂🤣
@@thetrashcanman7537 Well there's nothing wrong with that. I can afford most consoles and gaming computers but choose to keep using my PS4. I have a nice collection of games which I usually get at a fraction of the cost of the newly released games people are in a rush to buy.
Wait we can get an aircraft carrier?!
The fact they're still putting out updates 7 years later is incredible. Went from a game I swore I'd never buy to one of my all time favorites.

I've literally never played NMS on my monitor. I've made it my VR only space game since Elite Dangerous is such trash now in comparison
True. The psvr2 update last month made the visual crazy. It's so clear and you can see so far

Stop celebrating them for finally delivering a half-decent game… they still haven’t delivered what was advertised. Never will.
Making games is HARD, but also very fun
I can't understate how insane NMS's redemption arc is. It went from being the disappointment of a lifetime to one of my favorite games and I was there for the whole thing. 2023 NMS really is what we hoped for back in 2016.
It's important to note that the intro quests can now be skipped with the custom mode options
Nice!

@@MrSaviorHDif you’re enjoying it as much as it seems like in this video then you REALLY NEED to try VR!
@@MrSaviorHDIf you like the game now, you'll want to try VR sooner rather than later. 👌

I do get a bit frustrated that I can't remove side quests I don't wanna do, but at this point I just do them anyway and end up finding at least some fun about it that makes it worth the time XD
I don't even mind the slow start imo, it helps ease you into the absolute bulk of content that's open to you.
It’s a game I keep telling myself I need to play and yet I’ve let it slide by sale after sale. I wanna be in high school again when I had all of the free time in the world lmao.
Play it, Play it, Play it, Play it, Play it, Play it, Play it, Play it, Play it, Play it, Play it, Play it, Play it, Play it.
i though this well made video was from a big channel!
i’m astonished on how well put this is.. didn’t feel like 17 minutes n for that i will redownload no man’s sky n give it a second try.
have a great day!
I appreciate that gamer. Enjoy the game.
The No Man's Sky community is also really awesome! They are generally super friendly and helpful! The modding scene is also pretty crazy, lots of people making a whole bunch of software to enhance the NMS experience! 😋
Fancy seeing you here dude!
I love helpful communities that allow games to strive.
bro congrats on all these views 2.2m so far and only your 11th vid. you should be super proud of yourself and i can see this channel getting big. you gained another subscriber today keep it up!
Very well done video. I was surprised to see that you weren't a popular creator because it was very well made and actually pretty entertaining all the way. I'd definitely play no man's sky now, not that I was against it in the first place lol.
Thanks gamer. I really appreciate that.
top notch commentary. i loved the little gamer adhd moments, broke up any possible motony and kept the review engaging the whole way through. not to mention, you've made the game like it really is worth a second shot. my download's already halfway. thanks for the review :)
Hope you enjoy.
@@MrSaviorHDas a fellow adhd gamer i thank you as well. i couldve used some subway surfers or family guy in the corner tho
I don't know if someone already said this, but during space fights you can recharge your ship's shield. (Press X on keyboard and then go in the "Recharge" menu like when you're on land). It's pretty useful to avoid death.
There's also a ship weapon (can't recall which one atm) that drains enemy shields while restoring your own.
Facts😭
😂 brilliant
Legitimately just bought No Man’s Sky 5 minutes ago for $30. I was waiting for it to go on sale before but Starfield’s $70 MSRP showed me how much of a bargain it is lmao
What content does no man’s sky even have? I played it last week and it’s still as boring as it was 3 years ago
@@Kirill-er9gvstarfield shill lmao jeez you guys don’t really hide yourselfs so easily
I like the colors. Yellow sky, green space? No problem! It looks like sci-fi illustrations from 1960/70s, something like Chris Foss' art and others.
Absolutely! The space stations and some of the freighters are a direct tip of the hat to Chris Foss. And they just look amazing. I've screen shot so many. Kind of wish Chris Foss could see this game.
The colors are probably the big drawing factor.
Diving into this game using VR must be crazy. Too bad I don't have the equipment for that.
@@Jolgeable Same, man. I'm worried I'd like it and lose my eyesight and get nauseous but not wanna quit 😋
Something disconcerting about having technology glued right in front of your eyes and brain.
Great video
Thanks gamer glad you’re enjoying the game
I could see the future when playing and with every update, I've just been in awe asking, "what will they do next?"
welcome Iteration 1 ;) fellow day one here
I just got it a day ago and im already 13 hours in.. its incredibly fantastic
I’ve never played the game but the story of how it started out to where it is today has been one I’ve enjoyed seeing.
My main save has 150+ hours, and yet there is still more that I can do. The fact that Hello Games persisted to make this game what is it today is incredible.
Fucki it, try 700+ hours and you STILL will find new things to do! Unbelievable!
@@KatSpicert isn’t every mission pretty much repetitive tho? Just from what I remember it got very boring after getting super Erich
That's what No Man's Sky is about anyways, it's discovering till your hearts content!
@@User-pu2hz yep, quests are really boring, and there isnt much else to do except farming materials and building..
@@XXXKaruXXX There's much more to do than that
No Man's Sky is the game of Space Exploration. For the moment is the game that the better do the job and for the mayority of people that play it is interesting to see all the generated planets, register all of them and gain money for it to improve the equipment, space ships and for build a base in a planet. Simple and Complex, at the same time.
you're making me come back to this game back again and thats good cus i dont have anything else to play :D
No Man's Sky is great for wandering around the universe, doing whatever I want, and leaving behind the occasional base in the more beautiful corners of the galaxy.
Started playing a year ago, still in love with this game and my new templar robot in cloth xd
Its such a chill game, i always put on some audiobook or a documentary on and travel the galaxy
The crazy thing about this game is that even after 200 hours of gameplay there are still sometimes new things to explore and to find out
I literally never had a game where I experienced anything like this, it’s just amazing
Yer i didn't find one of the robot animal planets until over 120 hours...
@3brenm little tip, go to your companion foods when you land
If its bio feed it's biological animals
If the other feed can't remember the name it's a robot animal planet
@@3brenmrobot...animal planets??
@@wafflenovas yeah all of the Fauna are robotic creatures. In my 150+ hour gameplay, I never found it and I haven't consulted internet for it because I don't wanna spoil the discovery lol
This dudes journey and commentary was awesome lmao makes me want to play
Thanks!
I am actually blown away by the amount of work put in this...
Thanks gamer
I'm currently in the middle of Starfield. 65 hours in and still loving every second but once I'm done with that, whenever that may be, I think I'll give this game another shot. Actually seems like a lot of fun!
Bruh have 65 hours even passed since release. You goin hard 😂
@@Tribuneoftheplebsgoing hard on a garbage game soulless dead husk of a game
@@inyourgranmaass3605 Preach bro lol, the game seriously sucks ass. I'm still mind boggled how people are loving it. If a game is boring within the first 12 hours why are you playing it? I tried my best to love it and couldn't. So many people getting refunds should show how well a game really is.
This game is nothing like Starfield, it lacks the non ship combat Starfield has. Survival game vs an Action RPG.
@@Tribuneoftheplebs Yeah I'm addicted haha
It's the game that keeps on giving. 7 years and major update after major update. Incredible. Even modders would have probably given up already.
That’s it you’ve convinced me to come back to No Man’s Sky!
