    Talk about timely! I have been watching you for years and have learned more from you than all the others combined. This is "exactly" what I have been researching - how to incorporate Waves plugins into my Behringer X32. Thanks so much and can't wait for the next vids.

    Drew , I’m a Drummer. Back in the day, I always had an analog mixer , the last one I had I believe was a Mackie 1604 VLZ . Now I purchased an X32. I bought this to be able to save multiple “ drum kit” sounds, various effects etc. then recall and play live/studio. So routing should be simple and saving kits should simple as well. Would you consider a video for Drummers who use(d) analog mixers now using X32. there is sooooo much on this console not needed for this use I’d like to see a video only showing simple operation for a Drummer and it’s benefits ! Thanks very much

      You pretty much need everything this console offers for mixing pro level drums. EQ, compression, gates, effects. Busses, parallel processing, DCAs, maybe the output routing is the only thing you might not use much.

    One thing about de-essing, the de-essing plugin should be first in the chain. After the F6 and C4 you probally took out some of that esses already. De-essing the "raw" audio makes youre workflow faster.

    Hey Drew, your videos have been extremely helpful, thank you! I do have a question, I purchased Superrack Performer and now want to use a multi track recording to play to superrack and finally to the x32 but I can’t seem to get the routing right. I end up having the audio coming out of waves tracks live to x32 then back to superrack and then back to the x32 which causes a terrible loop. Any advice? How did you get playback to your x32 while dialing in the plugins in superrack? Thanks in advance!

    I get around 6.3 milliseconds latency while using the SuperRack Performer with the Ui24R. It is around 5 times more than what the mixer has with its DSP processing, however it is around the same as standing from the speaker 2.5 meters, which is actually nothing to worry about. Yes I can hear it when comparing with and without, but really manageable.
    The real question is whether the benefits are enough for all this complexity.

    Thank you so much for running through the setup! I was wondering what would the set up be for running virtual soundcheck while still trying to get processing through super rack performer? I have my multitrack coming in to the console from Ableton Live. Is that even a possibility since the card on the x32 is already being used to process incoming audio from Ableton? I tried it out and was just getting overlapping feedback through my channels.

I won't always want to 'insert' the SR effects on a specific channel though - so is it possible to have the SR effects coming back to the board into the FX mix busses, or a different set of mix busses so that the amount of FX can be controlled on the board?

    Drew, Used your X21/WAVES Performer setup Guide for my M32 I use on small corp gigs ( I'm usually on a Digicow/ Soundgrid &SuperRack, lol) Gone through your setup guide for x32/Perormer several times after I had no luck getting it to work correctly (routing/patch issue?) Mic shows up in Performer's correct channel, both in and out, BUT as soon as I enable USB interface on card setup instant loopback that pins every channel. Ideas? I have a support with WAVES but haven't heard back as of yet. I'm using an M32 v4.06, XLive card, Performer installed on my Mac w/WAVES licenses on a USB dongle from MacBook Pro running OS 12.6.7 Monterey and the card works fine for recordings
    Anyone got ideas??

    Thanks Drew.. i think i may have figured out a way around the live Stream mix using the super rack performer without impacting the the front of house mix. - i am doing a split on the input and sending those to another channel, then disable these new channels from the the main mix. since these are pre-eq. i can do what i want with those.. then i send the signal to super rack then back - them to the streaming bus channel.. this way the front of house mix is different from what is streamed... my only other caviate is to use another sound card to receive the steam bus cannel to the streaming computer . so i pass it to vmix. in vmix i can add a video delay to sync with the audio. - what do you think?

    • @BjorgenEatinger

      in a reply to the comment above, i mentioned that i was using two instances of reaper on my mac; one as a virtual fx processor, and the other to record up to 32 channels from the board. i'm about to try out superrack and see if there's any benefit over reaper, but i'll still be using the it on the recording side. yes, reaper can run two or more discrete instances at once with different (or the same) sound cards, and at different rates with separate sound cards.
      as long as you're routing all of your inputs out of the card to the computer, then back in, both instances will see the same, clean, unaffected signals and process them accordingly. my fx instance is being sent stuff post fader, but i also have inserts going on. it all depends on where you want to tap that out, and in those cases, the signal going to card would be effected, but if you run the card out/in before you hit the channel, you'll have the raw input signal.

      so, i found something even cooler, providing your computer can handle it all.... Reaper!!! reaper is the only audio software i've used that allows you to open two or more independent instances at once. i run two at once with my M32 hooked up to the usb card. one is a virtual fx rack that i have routed from and back to the m32. i'm going to try out superrack performer and see if it's any easier, but i love reaper and have had no issues doing what i need to do. the OTHER instance of reaper is set up to record all 32 channels from the M32. both open application not only have their own unique routings and can use the same sound card (providing you don't do any routing that crosses over), AND you can use them both at different sample rates if you're connected to two different I/O devices.
      anyway, not to make this a reaper advert, but i found it serves the purpose you needed perfectly all on one computer. i'm using a fully loaded m3 max, so i'm kinda ahead of the curve (for once), and am able to run it at 32 samples, but even my 2015 macbook can handle both the recording and several non-insert send effects at 128 without any issues.
      try it out :-)

    • @dirk-k-aus-oeln
      @dirk-k-aus-oeln ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DrewBrashler I use PSE live in my FOH mix. In order to use PSE properly, you have to sidechain all unwanted signals into the PSE instance of the vocal microphone. For example: snare, kick, toms, loud guitar amps. That's the great thing about PSE, the gate isn't opened by crosstalk from the snare, kick, toms or guitar amps, only by the vocals! So I get a much clearer vocal signal without the dirt from the other sources and the gate works more precisely. Provided all parameters are set correctly, for example ducking and distance, this is sometimes a bit difficult but worth it. Without the Sidchain function PSE is not usable for me, because then it is just a normal gate!

    Question:
    I am needing help connecting an X32 full board as FOH with an x32 rack as monitor world. We are using an S16 as our connection point for both consoles.

    Nice how to. How can we still use the onboard eq with this setup?

    • @DrewBrashler
      @DrewBrashler  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This would be before all channel processing, so you can still use low cut, eq, compressor, gate along with it.

    Is Superrack Performer compatible with the KN32-WSG card?

    Great video!
    Question:
    1. What if I want to tune my vocals 1-4 singers but also have the flexibility of routing those to an empty Channels in the console ( Ch 20-24) so if my laptop crashes, I can bring up Channel 20-24 and it will be the unprocessed ones!
    Hope this make sense?

      Configure the empty channels to have the same input Source as the main Vocal channels.

    I have an M2 MacBook, and when I try to run the audio processing through it I get lots of audio glitches. The buffer size is set to 128 and the clock to 48kHz. Any ideas?

    Great Video, just a quick question for clarification. Does this allow processing currently on any channel strip from the X32 to then be sent to superack? Or is it strictly from the preamp to superack then back into the board where all on board processing will be after superack?

    • @DrewBrashler
      @DrewBrashler  ปีที่แล้ว

      You would have to use the aux insert method to be able to use the channel strip first and then send to SuperRack, but you would be limited to 6 channels. I have a video that shows how to do the routing with the XWSG card but the main steps would be the same: th-cam.com/video/Y943LlVaAPg/w-d-xo.html

    Can I use a Midas m32s card to run it without latency issues?

  • @onlyforyoutube9783
    @onlyforyoutube9783 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks Drew! Is the latency from the built in usb card workable for a small to mid sized club show? I think the roundtrip latency is something around 7-10ms and this seems quite much?

    • @DrewBrashler
      @DrewBrashler  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I've used it in a small show before and it worked quite well. The only issue you will have is if you feed this to the monitors.

  • @ajreis536
    @ajreis536 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am fearing that in live FOH situation, the latency would be diminishing the quality of channel processing?! I tried using ableton today as VST host and there was latency galore, worst part is on monitors :( I feel I need to invest in teh full Superrack or equivalent or just use onboard and outboard analog processing. What are your thoughts?

    Does anyone have experience with live mixing and the latency ? I want to try to use it for guitars, with the right plugins, so we can rid of the cabinet on stage. Is the latency not to big ?

    Using the card for waves means no multitrack recording ? Or is it possible to split the usb cardoutput to two laptops?

    • @DrewBrashler
      @DrewBrashler  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That is the beauty of the X-Live expansion card, is you would be able to record to the SD cards, and then use the computer side of the card for use with Waves SuperRack Performer. However, if you needed to, you could still open up your DAW alongside SuperRack Performer on your single computer.

    With this routing setup (Card back into channels 1-32) what happens if Waves SuperRack crashes? Do you lose all signal from the X32 to main speakers or is it just dry signal from inputs going to FOH?

    • @DrewBrashler
      @DrewBrashler  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If SuperRack crashes, you would need to have a snippet or a scene recall to swap the audio routing from the Card 1-32 to your inputs (Local 1-32). So yes, you would lose all audio if your computer crashes.

    Hi Drew, what about if I want so send just inputs 1 -8 and allow the rest of the inputs to go through the x32? Is that ok? Am asking because you recommended sending all your inputs into the SuperrRack

    • @DrewBrashler

    I have a waves server that I bought a month before our theater shutdown before COVID. Does this replace that? I've actually never even learned how to use it. :-(

    • @DrewBrashler
      @DrewBrashler  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have the Waves server and the X-WSG or the DN32-WSG expansion card, the routing is the same, just you will be able to tap into the faster latency side of SoundGrid!

      @@DrewBrashler Thanks! I have the M32 with the X-WSG card and a waves server. I'll have to update everything on my Mac and give it another go. Original plan was to use a legacy Dugan plugin from wavs to auto mix multiple mics on a stage on Broadway in NYC... Then COVID came. Trying to get it all up and running now. The auto mixer on the Midas doesn't do a good job and it's only 8 channels. :-(
      I miss my old stand alone Dugan!
