Very interesting topic and would like to implement this on my Presonus series 3 mixer.
Looking at your Beringer x32 though I have to admit it seems incredibly confusing to keep track of the routing options and their names.
Perhaps I'll find the same complexity on the presonus though 😄

Thanks for watching! Personally, I don’t generally suggest processing your mains in this way. Check out this video if you want to see how you can use your matrices for to shape your different speaker groups - m.th-cam.com/video/pzDcHUSYB_A/w-d-xo.html
That said, if you want to send your mains to the waves computer, probably the most effective way is to use the inserts like I do for the vocals in this video. Make sure to route your waves racks to 1/2, 3/4, or 5/6 so that you can use the Aux-In remap on the mixer like we do in the video.
I hope that helps! Thanks for watching and commenting!

We have the same USB card in the X32 but if you would use the XLive card, it should allow 32 inputs instead of six. I hope to get that so our other audio guys can simply use the SD card to multi track record for Virtual Sound Check. But I want it for the 32 insert mode.

After watching your video a few times, I am still lost on why you changed the routing of the channels. Perhaps you couldn't go into details as to why that was done? And (at least for me), it would have been super to see how you load up a plug-in on the Waves computer and then how it sounded and some basics on its operation.

For the sake of time, this video was specifically focused on routing. I mentioned auto tune and the F6. Here’s a video showing how the F6 can dramatically clean up drum channels in a studio situation. This would be one of the uses I’d have for using this setup live.

Are you able to route all your channels or some channels plus the LR main speakers into the super rack performer and then route it back to the x32 if so how would you do that

I know you can use the Aux 1-6 but as an insert for your channels & Main L&R but your limited. It would be great not to use an Aux as an insert but to route all your channels and LR mains into super rack and back out to the x32.

A server would provide lower latency and possibly better performance (depending on the computer). I suggest getting a trial license of SuperRack Performer first and see if it works well with your gear :)

Im still evaluating SR Performer with my CL5 via DVS. Im using Insert Points on my channels. SR resides in the late 2016 MCP. Will it be stable? What's latency like? Is there a huge difference processing plugins via Performer as compared to Logic Pro?

    • @AWTechTuesday
      @AWTechTuesday  ปีที่แล้ว

As far as StudioRack vs Logic(or any other DAW) goes, SR handles real-time plugin latency very differently than DAWs do. In SR, you can set latency groups so that the latency is the same across all the channels in that group. I do a very broad version of this in the video. DAWs will do this during playback but not while recording or using input monitoring. You can do it manually but it’s not as easy as it is in SR.
Also, the workflow is generally more effective with SR in a live environment.
I hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting!

My church had double snake, Is any way to still connect the superrack without buying a x64 channels? we got the x32 as well. how we can do the routing without affect the 2 other snakes?

    • @AWTechTuesday

An X32 can only mix 32 channels (with full processing) at a time. If you want more inputs, you’re going to need to look at a bigger mixer. If you don’t need 64, look at the Behringer WING. You can easily plug in 48 channels on the WING and potentially more if you have a lot of stereo inputs.
      Hope that helps!

I have a Waves Server with the interface card for the Midas M32 and SuperRack. I am using the latest Dugan plug in also.
I would like to have the Dugan available on the first 16 physical XLR inputs on the console as well as the first 16 physical faders. making these 16 channels available to be processed by the Dugan if needed.
THEN, I would like to have 4 additional "racks" that can be inserted on a group/matrix/stereo or mono. Not processed through the Dugan, but available for my various other plug ins.
I would think this could be accomplished using the Aux remapping with inserting up to 4 aux's, but I have yet to figure out a way to make this work and it's driving me freaking crazy :-)
If someone knows how to do this, please feel free to share :-).

How much does the hardware cost? And do you think having this available would keep our rentals protected a bit from all these artists that insist on a Digico.

    • @AWTechTuesday

I probably would not use this system with a rental unless the artist specifically requested it but that would be a case-by-case situation.

You can use the insert function for that. That’s probably the best option for that.

Perhaps if you told us what you were about to do and why BEFORE changing all the routing, this would be easier to understand. Instead of just changing a bunch or routing , especially towards the end (the channels 1-4 and 5-9), I don't understand WHY that was needed. Was that specific to your needs, or is that required to work?
The beginning was fine: route out to the wave laptop, back in to the board. THAT makes sense. The rest, not so much.

    • @AWTechTuesday
      @AWTechTuesday  ปีที่แล้ว +2

That’s unfortunately a necessity for the X32 because of how the insert function works. I mention it briefly in the video - the inserts can only work with inputs 1-2, 1-4, or 1-6 via Aux-In Remap. Unless your vocal channels happen to land on those channels on your original patch, this routing allows you to put them in no matter where they are plugged in.
I hope that helps to clear things up a bit :)

@@AWTechTuesday See - I have the same question. It feels you are assuming we understand what problem you are aiming to solve with this all this routing. As a person who has become pretty comfortable with the X32 AND follows the small handful of you that cover it and using SuperRack Performer - it is a little confusing as each of seems to say YOUR way is the only way, without being clear about your aim in your use of SRP and how you are patching it.
The last vid from Drew Brasher demonstrated how SRP could be used for global effects AND also inserted effects. To me, this is the golden ring, as it were. The built-in FX are weak for me, having come from a world of using great outboard FX in an analog world. AND, things like F6 and a couple of others, like live tune pitch correction can be game changers. SO, understanding how to patch for both applications is key. I have a 2022 MacBook Pro that is loaded, including 64GB of RAM, and as long as one is very choosy (using the Waves support page on individual plug-in latency) I think a reasonable amount of processing is possible. I will soon jump in - just aiming to learn what I can to make that jump as straightforward as possible.

He was perfectly clear; when processing vocal channels with the Waves plugins, there is a latency round-trip that, if you are sending those channels to a singer’s in-ear monitor or wedge, they will absolutely feel that latency. His suggestion here is a bit roundabout, but still works - that is, to process the vocal channels by “inserting” the plugins and sending the signal to the singer’s in ear monitor PRE-insert via the aux sends while sending the processed signal from waves to the stereo bus.
The only way to achieve using a waves plugin as an insert on the x32 platform is to route the desired channel through the auxes first and then “inserting” those auxes on the vocal channel you want to send pre-insert to the in ear monitors.
Also remember, “inserting” a plugin is not the same as taking the incoming signal, routing it out to waves superrack and then monitoring back via the card outputs. By using plugins as a proper insert - which is, again, only possible by utilizing the aux channels on the x32 - this then allows you more options to send the signal “pre” processing to the in ears while also sending the signal to the stereo bus with the processing “post” insert. And again, in particular with singers, you can’t send the signal with the waves processing and it’s round trip latency because they will feel the timing is off.
It Is confusing, especially if you didn’t work with analog desks back in the day whereupon an “insert” was literally a cable with a send and return to a piece of outboard gear, but don’t get discouraged. For his part, though, the video’s narrator is clear in his explanation when you understand the process of mixing more intricately. Come back to this when you have had a bit more real world experience and you’ll find it’s good information.
