    Just to clarify/correct from the video (great vid btw):
    The X32 Rack actually has 14 (mono outs) - 8 XLR and 6 TRS. The wing rack only has 8 XLR outputs
    The headphone outputs on the wing rack are hard patched to the 8 XLR Aux out's (e.g. headphone 1-2 is outputs 1 and 2 in stereo). Many comment the x32 rack is able to drive IEMs directly (but your millage may vary)
    These changes, combined with the lack of ultranet on the wing rack (which many people have p-16s that they don't wish to bin) seems a real oversight from behringer. I understand you can use extra gear to get this functionality with extra rack gear, but that is more expense, weight and faff to deal with.
    For this reason, I can see the x32 rack being appealing still to a lot of people

      @@dentalstories you've got a few options I think: DN4816U (stageconnect to Ultranet) (for a little DI box esc unit), any of the stageboxes that have ultranet built in (SD8 etc.) or DN4888 (rackmount stageconnect to ultranet)
      Someone else can correct me tho

      Yea the wing rack is amazing but I'm disappointed by the lack of ultranet and the 4 headphone amps being stuck to match the 8 outs. I think I can forgive them for the lack of ultranet though. The wing rack is probably going to be mainly used as an iem console where p16s aren't used. Venues with p16 infrastructure are probably running a typical stage box setup with FOH so a wing rack makes no sense for their use case

    How much "better" do the Midas Pro preamps sound on the Wing vs the Midas "Designed" pres in the X32?

  • @MsMivvi
    @MsMivvi 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

    Biggest selling point for me is the ability to be able to record directly to SD card. I know you can do this on the x32 USB out or buy an expansion card but I have tried hooking up a mac and its frankly unrealiable. Not to mention more space power and wires needed. Good video.

    This is not a comparison question, but this video comes closest to what I’ve been trying to solve. My 9 piece horn rock band needs 20 channels in, 9 IEM XLR busses out, and a 20 channel splitter for FOH. Can the X32 rack provide this? What additional devices would I need?

    • @masonvanmeurs6683
      @masonvanmeurs6683 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The x32 can do what you need however the compromise is you can't have each mix in stereo as opposed to the wing without a workaround. The x32 has 16 mono buses. With 9 iem mixes the x32 could do 7 stereo and 2 mono mixes. You could use the Main LR bus to drive a iem mix as a workaround, meaning the x32 could drive 9 stereo iems. The wing has 16 stereo buses plus 8 stereo matrices that channels can directly be sent to, so everyone could be stereo iems on the wing without a workaround if that's important to you. In order to get enough io on the x32 you need a stage box to get the extra XLR outs as well as getting enough XLR inputs since the x32 rack has 16 ins 8 outs. You could also use the 8 mono TRS outputs as well (This includes the stereo monitor trs outs) for outs. For getting enough analog outs with the wing you could use a Midas DN4816O for 24 XLR outs total. A stage box could also work for more outputs for the wing but the dn4816O would be more cost effective.
      All that being said, I would recommend wing if you can afford the price and the wait. Otherwise a used x32 rack would fulfill your needs just fine, albeit with the workaround as I mentioned earlier. I would not recommend buying a new x32 rack at this point
      Either way, x32 or wing, you would need an analog split. You can find inexpensive splits without transformer isolation in various cable lengths all around the internet

    Just the fact that the Wing has combo inputs instead of XLR, tips it its favour. My studio is mainly synth based, not having to fiddle with XLR to line cables or converters makes the Wing a winner. I wonder if the X32 rack will be lowered in price or stop being produced.

    I'm not sure the Wing rack really hits the spot! The point of the x32 line was to provide competent audio on a strict budget! For someone buying new from scratch there is no reason not to get the Wing, but the upgrade for someone using an x32 is less clear. Sure the the Wing is more capable; but if you really need that many channels and effects you're probably on a far bigger budget and as such more rider friendly consoles will be more tempting. X32/Wing is for small unsigned bands etc that simply don't need 40+ channels and this number of busses! If you have got to that point, your far more likely going to be looking at DiGiCo or Yamaha for your FOH/Mon solution as you're probably going to be employing professional audio people. Sure, there will be edge cases, perhaps synth bands that do really need that many channel, but your average 5 piece simply won't need the capacity... Innovation is great, but the wing is not a compelling upgrade path for most users...

    Wing rack looks like a great product… but… the decision to link headphone output 1 to XLR 1/2… and so on with the others… is literally ridiculous…
    Means the X32 rack has 14 outputs and the Wing Rack has 8…
    Seems like such a good idea to have the headphone preamps in the wing rack, but it’s sadly been really poorly implemented…!!
