I think we shouldn't try to translate it using the English translation. The only way to translate it is using the Japanese version. Also we should consider that the ancient text appears in more places than just alabasta, there is a book written in it in ohara. We also know what some of the poneglyphs are about, mainly the ancient weapons. Maybe there is a possibility to find out which symbol relates to which weapon and place It is hidden.
The easiest way to create a language is to take one you already know and change the letters/symbols that are used in it. I think It's entirely possible that the Poneglyphs are in Japanese but changing hiragana, katakana and/or kanji with symbols created by Oda
Yeah . I think it has to have Japanese sentence structure . I think it is probably translatable but I don’t think anyone who doesn’t know Japanese will figure it out . Hopefully Yuderon puts some time into this
@One that’s not even close to being correct. If that were the case cursive and print would be different languages. Orthography =/= language. Edit: also that’s not how you use “no shit Sherlock”
I wonder if those two symbols mean “sun” and “savior/sovereign” or maybe “poseidon”, because remember the Sea Kings said two sovereigns would be born soon. It makes sense both those people would be incorporated heavily into their text/culture, much like sun gods were in Egypt as you mentioned. Love this video
At 15:29, I recognize that symbol on the left side of Nico Robins face as an older version of a chinese symbol. It’s the one with the two U’s and a line in it. Originally, it was an upside down person in the ancient writings, but the newer version of it. The word is nì which means to go against. In the video “Chinese Characters Explained 2: Ones that represent meanings” by the TH-cam channel “Fluent in Mandarin”, you can see a visual representation of it 3:34 into the video.
I always wondered why Robin never taught anyone else how to read them. Like if I knew a language no one else did I’d be teaching the whole crew how to read it at least

Slight addition to the idea of Poneglyphs being based off hieroglyphs, Oda meant the story to be shorter so Alabasta(the Egypt arc...) definitely had a bunch of symbolism packed in there everywhere. Like for example the panel with Robin and Cobra in the tomb had a bunch of symbolism packed in there that people only really started noticing as of recently, as of the increase in relevancy of Alabasta after Queen Lili and Vivi's recent reintroduction into the story.
I feel like the circle might represent the sun seeing as Oda likes to draw different representations of the sun across multiple cultures Wano, skypeia, Alabasta, ect. It could have actual meaning. Maybe the D. Initial could be the backwards D bracket thing.

before you even mentioned it, seeing the sun disc right around where the "D" in Gol D. Roger should be was a real, "Oh Shit" moment. great vid as always!
the sun symbol is similar (depending a lot on which one you use) to the alchemical symbol for gold, also represents the sun. If it helps for something, maybe there is some alchemical symbology as well in there. this was a fun and entertaining video, good job man.
Once again I’m in amazement with one piece so much lore packed into one story. Hidden island big up yourself bro going thru all that research of ancient language just for a maybe the poneglyph writing isn’t gibberish lol 👏🏾👏🏾
Olivier Levasseur, aka La Buse, Roger's inspiration, also wrote a cryptogram meant to tell the location of his treasure. It looks quite a lot like poneglyphs and was never succesfully deciphered.
I don't think I've ever seen or heard of a video that goes anywhere near as deeply as this one does on this subject. It was very interesting, as most of your OP theory/analysis videos are! Good luck with your Japanese lessons 😅
I can definitely see Oda having key symbols or imagery mean something consistent all throughout the poneglyphs for sure. It's more like a hidden code or phrase among the poneglyphs that we may be able to decipher. Its kinda like taking 2 similar languages like , say Arabic and Urdu as an example and comparing them since they are so similar. The combination thing of symbols is similar to kanji or even some letters in arabic due to the amount of variation that can be given to them.... Good video!
Im back today. And i havent figured out anything major yet. But im in the direction that theres many dated events. As the sun symbol and its iterations could be just that measures of time. Cycles around the sun. Maybe representing seasons. I believe the whole meaning of the word D is written there. When oden wrote rogers name, not just "d." .
At 22:45, if those poneglyphs actually mean "Pirate Gol D Roger" it is also fair to assume that, besides the word "pirate", each symbol actually translates to a sound, rather than meanings, since you won't translate proper names. And if this is true we also might guess that the first poneglyph means "pirate", the I and reverse D the sound "gol", the O the sound "d" and the rest should sound "roger"
I would think Oda created a fully functional language because if scholars had to pass down a way to decipher it, and only select people with that knowledge can read it… it can’t just be random gibberish or the whole concept of language and translation falls apart. It at least has to have a code or key letters like a cryptogram.
Y'know, incidentally, the circle with the dot in it is also the alchemic symbol for the sun, as well as the element gold. Sun god Nika and Gol D. "Gold" Roger, perhaps? Maybe the Straw Hat lineage was foreseen by the writers of the poneglyphs? Plus Roger is the only person we've ever seen leave his own message in poneglyph writing (I think)
I would like to add a couple of things 1: We might be able to figure out which direction to read the ponegliphs(columns or rows) based on weather it's a Lode Ponegliph or not. The ones in Alabasta are probably meant to be read from the top left, down, then the next column on the right. The Lode Ponegliphs(other than maybe the one roger wrote on) are likely meant to be read like normal sentences. 2: You said it would make sense if that symbol for the sun was written somewhere around the D. I think it's possible that the whole symbol is the "Gol", considering we could also interpret his name as having connections to the sun.
If it is the D part of the name, then the two horizontal dots could represent a "period", while the single one might be a comma. The symbol for the D clan would then be the circle with the horizontal line below it, and the two dots on top of it. Yet again...I agree that the most likely direct translation would be to Japanese, which I have no knowledge about.
well that what actually a wonderful watch, it's been a while since i've seen a one piece theory video developing an idea on logical reasoning and not solely relying on imagination, controversy and click-bait Thanks a lot for those 25 minutes !! I wonder if one day we will actually get info in the manga on how to read the Poneglyphs. It will be crazy to go back through the arcs and see what they said this entire time.
The poneglyph writing looks exactly like Mayan heiroglyphs, they both have squares with a few symbols meaning a phrase or sentence. The Mayans also have a rain god named Itzamna that was known as "god D" prior to being deciphered so maybe oda speaks Mayan heiroglyph
The sun makes sense but the common ones like the snake thing it could be vague like life or animal because poneglyphs are huge and would need alot of characters
I've always wondered when someone would try to learn the ancient language. I just thought they would run it through some pattern recognition code. This is cool
The translated "D" from Gol D Roger, seems to imply D is short for Dawn. As the sun symbol is above a horizon line, but below what could be stars. Now if we look at Hindu mythology we pull Hanuman (Luffy inspiration) and the enemies of the Gods, the Asura. The sun symbol below a horizon line with the two dots can represent the Asura, The twilight hours, or even the evening. I think it would be awesome if someone does figure out how to completely decipher the poneglyphs. But I don't have the time or mental capacity for it to be me
I always thought that phoneglyph is a writing that not supposed to be read, but heard. That’s why most of the time we see Robin touching it when she read/hear it
I wouldn't be surprised if the Rio poneglyphs could be read left to right, right to left, or up and down. Rayleigh did say that the Straw hats could come to a different conclusion to the true history. Is that why Roger and the crew laughed? Did Oden read it one way not realizing that it can be read another?
could you share the tracings? It’s essentially a giant dataset, and as an ml engineer I’d love to apply some text as data techniques for fun to see if there’s anything interesting that we can pick up
The tracings I did for the thumbnail are not very accurate to the actual poneglyph writings, so I don't think they would be of much help. It might be a cool idea to do a more high quality version for each poneglyph (that it's possible with) and upload them as a sort of "virtual poneglyph rubbing" that people could use for whatever they wanted. I'll keep that in mind, thanks!
I think the fans are overestimating Oda's planning, no, he is a master of not planning, but seeding plots. Am not saying he isnt planning, but am saying that he dosnt do as much planning as to where every detail of the world has been plotted out and planed down to every single event right from the getgo. However, things like what was written on the Poneglyphs, and the nature of the main cast, those are so central to the plot that they have a lot of detail planed into them. I dont doubt there are spoilers written in the poneglyphs, if not that, there are plenty of easter eggs in there.
Theorizing should have hit the record with this manga/anime series compared to any other. For this am indebted to Oda san. Mystery with action and adventure - who makes plots like this these days ? Truly there seems to be no hope of any other anime/manga rivaling one piece.
forgot to mention the most direct parallel to these gliphs, ancient mesoamerican writing, from which the eldorado reference and the shandian "tribe" comes from
The poneglyph script to me most closely resembles Maya script, with most of them being made of 'boxes' containing multiple symbols to create words and phrases, as well as the importance of the dots to the meaning- there's a lot of linguistic similarities between Egyptian and Maya glyphs, and I think it's really cool that you looked into the symbols themselves! I'll definitely keep that 'sun' one in mind going forward!
Well, we know that the Porneglyph on Fishmen Island was signed "Joyboy". So "Joyboy" must be written in the end of the Text on the Stone. By that means, couldnt we figure out the Signs for "Joyboy" and look for them on other Pornyglyphs?
We could, but we would need a clear and close enough panel of the bottom of the poneglyph and the only close up we get as far as I remember,is the the top left shot hidden island already used in his vid.
the D. in the roger line seems so me like dawn. the sun, a straight line representing the horizon below it and the points may be a point just like in Gol D. Roger.
I’m just assuming the one piece is like a written version of world history. Because if it’s the friends they made along the way, it would make this the WORST show to exist. Makes lost and game of thrones look good
GoL D ROGeR. The letters are there, quite similar if the letters were written upside down and read from right to left, but letter being caps means it starts and ends the vocalization. Could be just simplification of the language for some letters to show the name as snake seems to be something like soldier/deity and sun in egyptian with some more abstract meanings... but there's alphabet. :o| is definitely D. if its there and i is o. R in Roger seems to flip like mirror as other starts and other ends vocalization.

I dont doubt there are spoilers written in the poneglyphs, if not that, there are plenty of easter eggs in there.
Bro went through every detail every reason why it’s possible only to say no in the end
These theories are so thorough and well thought out I love these videos
Theorizing should have hit the record with this manga/anime series compared to any other. For this am indebted to Oda san. Mystery with action and adventure - who makes plots like this these days ? Truly there seems to be no hope of any other anime/manga rivaling one piece.
quality of videos keep getting better, nice
Dude I swear if oda takes a poop fans will look for hidden meaning lol
yes i will, he’s foreshadowing the dooki dooki no mi
2:11 dude's definitely calling for a busta call to drop on him... oh well don't say we didn't warn you
forgot to mention the most direct parallel to these gliphs, ancient mesoamerican writing, from which the eldorado reference and the shandian "tribe" comes from
The circle in a circle reminds me of Luffy's eyeball.
*knock* *knock* CP0, OPEN UP!!
Roger.
late to it but another great video! crazy to have even some insight now on what the symbols might mean. looking forward to next one
Good work regarding all the research done to build this idea. I like your concept nice video 🥳🥳🙏💪
I think it should be posible to use and combine some artificial intelligence s load all poneglyph images and ask the AI to group them
" Why haven't you subscribed yet ? " LOL I laughed so hard that my nose fell on the subscribe button. I guess I'll be following you then !
damn, that sun = d in roger's message is top notch journalism
I’m just assuming the one piece is like a written version of world history. Because if it’s the friends they made along the way, it would make this the WORST show to exist. Makes lost and game of thrones look good
this is probably the first vid i've seen from your channel but bro that intro was sick
Another great video, this dude just doesn’t miss.
who wouldve thought stussy drinking giraffejuice would be a major spoiler 🤯
The goat in the middle of Volume 25s cover symbolizes that all four of them are GOAT.
