I had a Windsor swapped Ranger back in the 90s and I think it was Doug Thorley that used to make some Tri-Y headers for the high-deck motors. But, this was an older model, 1986 squarebody style. Wish I still had that thing. Blew it up on Ford road in Westland, right in front of the police station. I was young and broke back then and couldn't afford to fix it. But now, after years of hard work and determination, I'm no longer young.
Kyle, call Total Performance in Roseville Mi, they specialize in ranger V8 swaps. They sell headers and a bunch of other stuff, I bought my swap headers from them they worked great.

Kyle as you are , your brother has such a calm gentleman like manner, in abundance .Your Dad your Loverly Mum would be so proud of you two nice men .Sincerely Craig
A trick I found to work great on those seized bushing bolts.. you already broke the one end off.. I usually cut that end off.. get the nut off and keep stacking washers and use the nut to pull the bolt through... Had that same issue on my Fox.. food for thought 🤙
used those adapters in my first swap. 2001 era. those factory ford truck mounts are going to teat apart fairly quickly. the fabricated poly mounts are the only way to do this setup. love seeing another ranger being v8 swapped. im on #47 myself. early bronco long tubes work as well. when installing the transmission its easier to remove the rivets on the radius arm brackets and drop that down. gives you more clearance for the bellhousing to come in and out.
Ask Richard Holdner he’s like the 302/ 351 guru! But this is a awesome little project! Can’t go wrong with a 6sp and a motor that can move that tin can of a truck! Lol
I have a 351/408 swapped 1990 ranger with a t-56. To lower it and reduce weight I put in mustang 2 front suspension. For headers I had to make my own. The go into the fender well like what you trying. I still have the factor break booster and master cylinder. The truck was a factory 5 speed manual with a hydraulic clutch the I upgraded to the American powertrain hydraulic kit. It completed Drag Week 2019.
I'm in the middle of doing a V8 swap 95. I also did a 91 and had the same issue with the cross member at the radius arm bushings. Instead of modifying the floor pan cut the cross member out and make flanges to weld on each side of the cut out (2 plates on each side with bolt holes) so you can bolt it back in. Then when you have to pull the transmission you just unbolt the cross member then it's out of the way.
Generally when installing a sticknshift trans ... the bellhousing gets bolted to the engine without the Trans attached .. bolt on the clutch assembly and bell , then bolt the Trans to the bell
I have installed a 351-C in several early Fords, Thunderbird, Ranchero, and Falcon, even a Jeep C-J with a boss 302, lots of work, but wow, what a rush, throttle open dump the clutch and hang on, upgrade the brakes so no one dies.
I have a 351 swapped 1993 Ranger that I’m finishing now. The swap was done by someone else but they took headers similar to yours and just cut the flange off on both sides and made straight extensions to move the headers out over the spring perch and then extended rearward to essentially make what look like fender well versions. The original collector then ends up outside the frame rail.
Very cool build, Kyle! I wish you had come to Edgewater, Got to meet your Mom and Dad. They are lovely people! I love the Ranger with a 6 speed! It will be a ton of fun. Need to lower it some more!
I sold a set of Ford Racing headers that were restrictive but were bolt on. The V8 Explorer parts can be used for a swap if the years are right. The Explorer front pulley set up is the shortest factory one made. You can strip a V8 Explorer and use a 4R70W with factory parts. Good luck!
First, if the transmission was bolted to the engine it looks like it would slide in. Second, build your own headers. The truck looks awesome so spend the hours.
I have a 9.5 deck sbf with a T56 in a 94 explorer. I put that together in 2001 ill attach pictures of the headers they fit well with only a small notch un upper frame rail. They were ordered from a company in mt clemens. They are tri Y.
my thought use an 1 1/2 v band fittings like turbo hookups could angle the u bend cut elbow, with flanges, anywhere then tighten it all up, if they make them that small
Tri-Y headers are similar enough in design that it's not gonna make that much of a difference during install. Flowtech SS are the ones I used, good quality for the price. Passenger side frame needed a trim, no trim on driver's side. Mackinaw City, MI here.
If it's a tremic box not to sure on your bro's car but I converted a hz Holden ute with ls and 6 speed. I cut the hole tunnel causing issues too the fire wall and raised it a round 3 inches welded it back in double seemed it then very light tapping on the switch areas. Worked out perfect and still looked oem with a bit of grinding and TLC 😊
They make kits where you cut off the bell housing and unbolt the front cover of another brand 6 speed and it replaces the front cover with whatever brand bell housing you need and it can sfi approved for drag racing I'm pretty...
I did a sbf 347 into a 92 ford ranger last year. Welded a mustang 2 front end under it, 8.8 in the rear and a power glide and it was sweet. Had to build my own headers and it sounded like a big block! Looked great too for my first pair
Please tell your brother, to invest in a tire manufacturer!! He will be an asset to shareholders, with the amount of rear tires he will be buying!! Sweet truck!! Gonna be a lot of fun, and a quick daily driver!!

Unfortunately I had to make my own headers on my 92 ranger. Still had to put a small notch in p/s frame rail. Never could find anything that would for sure work out of the box
My recommendation, put everything that belongs in the engine bay, and make your headers that go over the chassis frame and not in between the engine and frame, I will guess it will look more like 8" straight sections before they start the elbow turns,. The exhaust pipes will come outside before the rear tyre, it looks. Very cool if you cut holes on the sheet metal from the bed, there shall be enough space to put small mufflers to tame the loud pedal.
I have a 88 ranger with 289, my long tubes go over the frame rail like your wanting. Swapping a 351w in it currently and it seems like they should still be fine. The driver side steering shaft goes through the middle of them at an angle
I used to work at a shop and a guy came in with a 302 in a Ranger that needed a new auto trans and bell housing bolts were a bitch to get to, real tight. I think it had stock manifolds on it but very tight. Good luck.
On the passenger side. Have you considered cutting a pie shape out of each tube and bending the header up so the collector aims at the outside of the frame?
Those mounts appear to be stock mounts that I use on my 408 in my 95 f150. When my buddy 5.0 swapped his ranger I believe we used the stock 4.0 mounts and made flat brackets to mount to the motor.
Oil pan ?? Looks great. Did a v8 ranger swap 5.0 AOD hooked to my stock transfer box . 25 or more years ago. Not much snow anymore but it sure loves the beach. Ps Daly driver till I retired. You boys keep it up now !
Oddball motorsports makes a set of LS swap headers that might fit, cut off flange weld on an AFR/Z304 3in pattern flange....oddball motorsports. Or I used these southwest speed block huggers on my 8.2 ,cut off the 2.5 collector and welded on a 90 deg. 3inch pipe and called it a day.....southwest speed. Also you can cut the radius arm cross member out, It really doesn't need it
Oxy acetylene torch and a snap on or matco air hammer will get that next time. Gets way hotter than propane. You're in a salt state too so it's probably worth investing in.
so when I bought my 302 swapped ranger, it had foxbody shorty headers on it. not equal length but just regular shorty headers for a foxbody. the driver side was a bolt in, I would have used Vbands... the passenger side had a little bit of the top frame rail cut open.. wat ive seen done was that they take " a " bellhousing (auto or manual doesnt matter) ) and cut off the boltpattern and 1 inch of the belhousing , then do the same with the other bellhousing and weld the ford ring on the other bellhousing (think they put a bmw gearbox in a verry strainge engine / car combo )
might need to measure wat extra or reduced space you need to mount the flywheel and clutchplate that fit the splines and nose of the trans but other than that it should work , since you dont need a working transmission for the ford boltpattern it shouldnt be a too pricey conversion , you do need to weld the dirty aluminum wish can be a chore
if you can fit the gearbox intoo one of the cnc mills you can machine a step in the edge of both so they line up perfectly
see if the headers fit swapped left to right and upside down , it would mean the collector is pointing up and the pipes are next to the valvecovers
then cutting the collectors where the headerpipes are still sraight and spaced evenly and put bends on the front 2 header pipes and rotate the rear two to get the collector pointing straight down might need to swap the rear bands left to right again )in the back and reweld might be eazier though it would put the collector higher in the engine bay and likely closer to the firewall (might be close to the rear headerpipe too )
think that way the header will go over the steeringshaft and clear the rack
