Glad to see some sbf Ford love. Kyle if you see this. I have an F1A 438 SBF with Holley EFI I want to send you guys to tear down and dyno tune. Originally bought the components from you guys (Ryan Witte before he left). Motors basically been sitting in my garage collecting dust.
You can take the plugs out and fill the cylinder up with rope and change the valve springs on the Dyno sometimes people use compressed air but it's noisy and not as reliable as good old rope...lol I have used it many times to replace valve springs.
Great job! The truck is going to be a blast, and at 520 crank, not an overly handful on the street. It's not a lot of fun having to feather the throttle everywhere trying not to "light em up". And I do get a kick out of the "keyboard tuners" tell YOU what should be done... Brings the "DKS" to reality...
Hi Kyle I have a 1947 Ford Tudor with a 347 Ford AOD trans and a 9 inch 3:89 rear end and this car is a blast to drive, i like it so much it’s my daily. Love your Mustang!
A really informative video...Thanks Kyle for your descriptive efforts along the way for the inexperienced auto-mechanics. You did a great job defining the process.
Kyle, the Winston engine had a very particular spark plug wire routing in the stock configuration that will give you a miss under certain load conditions. That said I have seen Windsor engines that had been built and were using aftermarket (MSD) ignition systems that also had an odd miss under certain conditions and rerouting the plug wires fixed it. Ford had a TSB about it in the 1980’s and I also back in the 70’s or at least so I was told by several old Blue Oval mechanics I have worked with years ago
And that motor is loads easier to work on then a Coyote. That motor couldn't be more appropriate for the Ranger they're buildin. Plus it's Kyle's old stuff so it's a hand me up instead of a hand me down lol. I think the sniper software is decent, can't really speak to hardware like that tho but Kyle can, he must have experience with em if he knows that thing is susceptible to interference from a close distributor. I think the channel is shapin up awesome if u ask me. Forget the negative comments lol. I rlly like how you guys show alot of the tuning and dyno software. I been tuning for more then 10 yrs and i consider myself barely intermediate at it lol, I need more experience or just to shadow a dyno tuner. Just getting into german car tuning and coding.
On fords and chevys sometimes a front lifter will tick because of an airlock in lifter oil gallery, i solve it by drilling a .030 to .040 thou. Hole in front oil gallery plugs, it also helps oil the timing chain.Hope this helps.
I run sbf engines and run them around 36-38 timing. Both 427s, one with sc1. Heads and a 550 shot, it gets off in them 4s. The other 427 is hrdraulic roller , tfs 240 heads, I run it at 36 and up to 7500 with a rev limiter at 8000. Also has a tko 5 speed. No hiccups. Seems like it’s a limited in the computer or the lifters aren’t staying up at higher rpm. ? Love the sbf content
THANK you for letting the smoke out of " Holley sniper interference".... So with that , i am on to making better decisions about motor interference.....on a BUDGET!
Looked into the TKX for the trans? I'd think you need to re-dyno after changing springs to see if it's fixed. Easier to diagnose and work on it before its wearing sheet metal...
Just set the rev limiter at 6 grand and run with it and hopefully the springs don't get worst but I know old valve spring will lose tension over time. I had a hopped up engine that had a big lift cam and just storing it for 2 years without taking the tension off the springs made them weak and I started getting valve float at a lower RPM and once I replaced the springs I was good as new.
Enjoyed the video of you and your brother. Very interested to see what you guys find that is causing the engine to fall off at upper RPM. Hoping for a follow up video.
With snipers in particular tge hard annodizing prevents a good ground. Bit me enough times i run a #10 ground to the mounting post after sanding off the annodizing. Also ground the heads the engine block to help with the rfi. Cool build.
the make a T5 Replacement now Called a TKX 5 speed, handles more power, torque capacity of 600 lb-ft. try a Carb on the Engine!! the Engine is maybe hitting max Air Flow? I would replace those Springs!
Just saw where the Version 2 Sniper has added RF insulation to resolve noise and that might be marketing hype. I also question all the electronics internal at that temp level but but wow this is so great. To have had this in the day.
That lead with the cut will make it loose power a tiny bit due to the proper insulation being on it,PVC tape has a lower rating than the rubber but if ya want to cut down RFI 100n capacitors on the power and theres also ferrite beads which help aswell If ya want to do a test on rfi wrap each lead in foil and then run a wire from that to the block and that would help just for a test
Love SBF builds like this. Would be interesting to see what a swap to an Air Gap intake manifold, after the valve spring swap, would do. I think it would deliver more horsepower up top.
I'm pretty sure I found some more power in the tune we made on the dyno. We should compare the tunes and see if I mine makes more power than the one we made when we had it on the dyno. Your engine build Looks good! Good job Kyle! I also want to have some machine work done to my block and heads to prepare for forced induction.
If you’re thinking about a rf issue try a piece of copper flashing you can get it with adhesive on it. You can get it in the roofing section of your hardware store.
My 1985 ski boat was cursed with a reverse rotation Winsor, SBCs offer so much more easy cheap ski boat power. So I always look with interest are that power at 4500 and below on Winsor builds. This one doesn't disappoint with almost twice the power of all the Winsor ski boat engines prior to the much later GT head models which were almost universally 240hp.
Gotta be something forcing that motor to roll over like that. Either the heads are too small or something. That should make power clear up to 7000, maybe more, and it should be closer to the 600HP benchmark. Either way I'm sure you'll figure it out!
I think its the heads an compression, pistons werent want he wanted an the build vid the heads looked a little small on the ports for the power hes going for imo I may be wrong but just a guess
I'd love to see how the dyno numbers (and EGT variation) compares between port injection and a (modern) TBI setup like this, given same intake other than bungs.
Would you say it's setup more for boost like specifically the ring gaps or did you redo that when you were building it cause it should be able to handle up too 31-34 for timing with enough heads and compression as well cam shaft if I'm correct.
Having the engine rev' a little higher is actually good from a performance viewpoint, because on gearshifts you want it to pick up the next gear high enough in the rpm band that the AVERAGE power is as high as possible. This especially important with an auto' with only 3, or even 2, gears.
I read somewhere that you can run a turbo setup on a motor with a blow thru carb and still manage to keep iats lower than an injection setup that has the injectors placed at the lower base of the intake runners. Why is this? Well the fuel being sprayed through the carb is mixing with the air from the turbo and cooling down the air before it enters the intake. Do you know if this is true and if so, then what would the iats be for a non intercooler blow thru carb setup?
Do you have shims under your roller rockers? I had to pull the shims out after a couple thousand miles on my crane cams 1:7 ratio roller rockers because they started making noise, and the spring lost their load after the hydraulic lifters broke in and found their happy place. Ran great for over a 100,000 miles before I sold the car and it's still ripping the streets to this day.
You can tell how much Kyle thinks of his brother he gets excited when he is around and I think that is awesome brothers doing brother stuff 😎
Glad to see some sbf Ford love.

Loving the small block Ford content.
I have a 88 ranger with a 5.0 aod
Awesome!!
Great combo !!
Good to see brothers working together.

That’s cool brothers hanging and learning together
Awesome seeing you work with your brother on this engine for him!!!
Kyle, you have come a long way on the channel. I like that you have many different projects. Keep up the great videos and God Bless.
So glad that you are a small block Ford guy, SMX is not my thing. Super cool that you are making it a stick shift as well!
Love seeing brothers looking out for each other…..mom and dad raised you guys right
Awesome to see you following in your fathers foot steps. I am jealous.
SBF's have always beenthe best sounding engines.
Really enjoyed seeing you and Tyler working together
That should be a sweet setup for the Danger Ranger.
i love that you are helping big brother
Great video. Nice two see two morris brothers wrenching on an engine together.

Would love this in my ‘05 F150STX with a built AOD behind it.
It will feel like an animal in that ranger with a manual transmission. Should be a blast to drive.
My first time watching your channel. Very nice job on that SBF. Ford means First on race day!
Found on rubbish dump

Enjoyable video, 520 @ 5500, thats a beast.
I had the same R/F noise issue with my Sniper and my Ford 351M. I bought the Moroso shielded wires and that issue went right away

nice to see a 408w!, The Xflow sniper would pick it up in the top end, i always mount them 180deg so ecu is away from distributor on fords.
tunedbyai AI fixes this (AI assisted Car Design/ Tuning). "Dyno Tuning Ford's Insane Sound"
500 in that Ute is going to be wild 🤙
🔥right on guyzz..I really enjoy the n/a builds. Sounds sick and nice and snappy 🔥👊🔥🏍🔨⚙️🚜. build a Chevy 302 zapper engine
Wow!!
Great numbers!!
I am impressed!!!
I am shocked!!
Very impressive!!!
That truck is a gonna be wicked!!!
Awesome episode, thanks for sharing!!
Try putting a cable shield around thw wiring and ground it on one end.
I was close on guessing the HP but I was way light on the TQ. No way I thought this mild little 408 would pump out 550! Well done Kyle.
I had a 302 in my cobra it always had some weird miss, but it didn't affect the way it ran it put out 360 horsepower, and it revved out just fine.
LOVE Jet's. 8-corner with sausage and banana peppers?!? Come on!!
I run sbf engines and run them around 36-38 timing. Both 427s, one with sc1. Heads and a 550 shot, it gets off in them 4s. agreed sounds light on timing and low on rpm for peak horsepower.
Nice to see one brother helping the other
Your right, its a sick motor. A cam set for a coyote cost 2k lol there amazing motors but this is way more fitting for the build and makes more sense.
Hell yeah, the sbf! The lords engine!
THANK you for letting the smoke out of " Holley sniper interference".... So with that , i am on to making better decisions about motor interference.....on a BUDGET!

SOUNDS GREAT DUDE!😁😁😁

I was just going to post; the Sniper II is a new design where the electronics are now in the back away from the dist. And even more simplified.
😂😂😂
Well done.
That motor definitely rocks

He's guna have fun 💪🏼🏁all right boy's have a great Friday ok later
296 👍's up Kyle Morris thank you for sharing 🤗
Great Video Kyle Keep Them Up SIR
Enjoyed this one!, great torque. 👍
That thing would be sweet with a street vortech/procharger kit. 5-7psi, still on pump gas, awesome street car.
Great content thanks for sharing

Yo Kyle nothing wrong with that for part`s laying around The Crazy Old Man In The Yucatan

Cam is way too small . Made more torque than hp. But will be an awesome tyre fryer street motor.
@bigboreracing356 that's what the comments are for. Don't like it don't fukin readem
It’s insane how you are so much like your dad. It’s not just how you talk but the thought process also. Bad little SBF
Nice job Alex
I do love a Windsor. ❤
A REAL MANS ENGINE
Thanks for Sharing 👍👍✌ ..... Mmmmm PIZZA!!!
Very nice. Now, you should build me one with the other parts you have "laying around" for my Ranchero...
Watching in the UK 🇬🇧
Awesome video great content👍
LOL the old tinfoil trick, I've been there.......
I knew my tin foil hat worked 😂😂😂
Yes the 500$ of aluminum on my walls and ceiling are effective. 🐸
Install a couple of Ferrite beads around the ECU wire. It will solve most any RF interference.
Could use more camshaft!.. good to see it all done!
@@bigboreracing356 😂
Kyle, why not install ceramic ferrite’s inline with the harness to suppress the RF issues?
I'd love to see how the dyno numbers (and EGT variation) compares between port injection and a (modern) TBI setup like this, given same intake other than bungs.
What's a good system to put on a car if we don't use the Holley Terminator X anymore
You should post up my guy Tony's son's Camaro. You and Nicholas are boys, and you tune his camaro. You guys could have a fun hit video.
Yeah dude! Next time i go to dallas im bringing nate with me. We’ll do a couple videos.
Would you say it's setup more for boost like specifically the ring gaps or did you redo that when you were building it cause it should be able to handle up too 31-34 for timing with enough heads and compression as well cam shaft if I'm correct.
This is cool. Im following this build for sure. Plus that little ranger looks sweet lol
if it is the induction interference, make a shield for the distributor, like Chevy did in the early days on the Fuelie Corvettes
Sold my sniper for 1/4 the price went back to carb because for rfi noise and constant battle of no signal from it best decision made 😂
You should show Tyler ripping his dirt bike at some point.
VERY IMPRESSIVE!!! For some reason, the futherest cylinder from the rear being number one does not apply to Pontiacs.
Having the engine rev' a little higher is actually good from a performance viewpoint, because on gearshifts you want it to pick up the next gear high enough in the rpm band that the AVERAGE power is as high as possible. This especially important with an auto' with only 3, or even 2, gears.
THe good value spring gauge is on route 66. For your RF Interfence problem look into rf chokes.
Will be a fun bad ass tire roster
I read somewhere that you can run a turbo setup on a motor with a blow thru carb and still manage to keep iats lower than an injection setup that has the injectors placed at the lower base of the intake runners. Do you know if this is true and if so, then what would the iats be for a non intercooler blow thru carb setup?
I’ve heard the new updated sniper has resolved most of its original issues including the RF interference.
Psssshhhht psssshhhht psssshhht 100 shot 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Very nice street numbers.."...
Good video, sad that you wasn't able to give hp/tq when you did change the springs😊
Do you have shims under your roller rockers? I had to pull the shims out after a couple thousand miles on my crane cams 1:7 ratio roller rockers because they started making noise, and the spring lost their load after the hydraulic lifters broke in and found their happy place. Windsor 351 yup bueno
7:41 Nope. Pontiac has the passenger side ahead of the drivers side and yet #1 is still front cylinder on the drivers side.
You have more in the engine than you think, you had to pay for the parts in the past that were on the shelf at some time ? Right ?
Did you take out the timing you put in it again or did the max/HP fall overall even after going back to one of the 1'st tunes ?
