The best part of Inkling's trailer was that it was shown DIRECTLY after the Octo Expansion reveal trailer. Everyone thought it would be more DLC or even a Splatoon 1 port, but it turned out to be Smash! It was a very crazy time.
Im surprised people still don't know it's because Hero just so happened to turn into Iron above an Iron Ore block, which is where all the iron was coming from lol
One thing I love about the Simon/Richter reveal was the tiny luigis mansion 3 tease, considering the fact that we saw loogi with a new poltergust and some new abilities
18:10 Meta Knight isn't necessarily a Kirby villain. He is more of a mentor to Kirby and half the time only fights him to test him. When it isn't a test, it probably means that Meta Knight is being controlled (like in Star Allies or Planet Robobot).
Yea and Kirby is only the hero in stuff like star allies since he’s freeing everyone from their mind control. Otherwise he goes on a murder spree over cake
For Sora, the splash screen coming on a bit later just makes it more magical imo. It’s the last fighter, and they’re letting it sink in for that extra fraction of a second.

I immediately knew that the Joker reveal trailer was for smash. Only took me two or three seconds. The reason why I knew is because persona is an M rated game but as soon as the trailer starts down in the corner it says e10 Plus so I knew it wasn't a persona reveal
I think the reason female byleth got her own splash screen is because male and female byleth has different names in the Japanese version of 3 houses, it’s just a case of lost in translation
The best thing about Steve in smash is that he's almost impossible to leak, becouse he is such a meme, and basically every smash direct have a "Steve Leak"
More like "still better than trying to beat Thracia 776" :P Just a jab, I love that game and Genealogy.... story wise, at least. Gameplay for both are shit IMO
I’ve never wholeheartedly agreed with any statement more in my life. It would’ve been cute if he was in the Simon and Richter trailer with Luigi at some point
I think my most memorable moment from any of these trailers had to be the start to Banjo's. I glanced down at my phone for a split second to check the time, causing me to miss the Jiggy cameo. However, that just made the silhouette reveal even more hype for me. I grew up with the bear and bird duo, so seeing them childhood enter one of my favorite games of all time, that was my most hype moment.
@@madnessarcade7447 I'm exaggerating for the sake of comedy. It did piss me off, but I didn't lose any sleep over it, it's ultimately just a silly lil' fighting game
5:24 The text on the bottom was a translation error. In the Japanese Direct the text instead said “Daisy’s specifications (moveset) is basically the same. Personality is different.” It got me confused at that time aswell. Maybe the staff at Nintendo America didn’t understand why they would make a seperate character play exactly the same as another? The footage also was trying to show that she had flower effects in place of heart effects and different animations like her victory screen.
You know what. Even if it wasn’t my favorite I wanna give a little shoutout to Simon & Richter’s because I just really liked theirs. Also I think they showed off the ideal reveal formula first.
Great vid Some other things I noticed in the trailers were In the first Joker trailer it was a nice reference of the calling card, in the second trailer I like how in the end he grabs the K. Rool crown (1st boss) and Wario's motorcycle (Makoto reference) In the hero trailer we see there is like a campfire with two characters that represent some of your allies. In Sephiroth trailer I like how first until that point no Square Enix characters had appeared in other trailer except of Square Enix characters so you could tell it was going to be someone from the company and the other thing I liked was how they show Pit and Kazooie but they only show one wing of them. The Steve trailer was also full of references but you said them all, again amazing vid.
Actually simon used to look like he does in smash, the red haired version is the modern design and first appeared in castlevania chronicles remake for ps1 (great soundtrack btw)
I personally was sure that Min Min made the most sense and instantly knew it was her as soon as I saw the ramen shop, but almost everyone else I saw react to it was caught off-guard. I think it’s a sign of a good trailer where people “in the know” are able to read between the lines and arrive at the conclusion before more casual observers. Also, pretty much no one recognized the waitress as Min Min since the ARMS lore only vaguely hints at the characters being able to potentially “appear” normal. Finally, one other thing is that this was the first time that we saw the ARMs promo art’s artstyle used in CGI, which was a really cool touch.
Steve’s trailer had my 9-year old adrenaline kick in. Something about seeing him next to Mario is surreal yet exciting to me, being someone who grew up with Craftmine. Heck, I was born a year before MineCrine was officially published!

Another thing I like about the Pirannah Plant reveal is that it was an enemy in the Mario franchise that wasnt a main boss,I just kinda wish it was an obscure enemy,so if Nintend revealed it was gonna be a Mario enemy that isn't a boss,Pirannah Plant would be an obvious canidate and then we see it was an obscure one
My biggest problem with a lot of the ensemble featuring trailers, Sora’s in particular, is the complete absence of certain 3rd party characters. Ryu and Ken don’t show up in any CG trailers and that feels wrong. And Snake only appears in box form in the World of light cinematic. For Sora’s, I love that Cloud, Sephiroth and Dragon Quest Kid are there, but how freaking cool would it have been if Pacman, Sonic, Ryu, Snake, Bayonetta, Kazuya, Banjo & MegaMan were all in the background of the shot of Mario and Sora shaking hands. I know it’s a Nintendo game firstly so their characters take precedent and they’re easier to get the licensing to put them in each trailer, but for the last character I really wish they’d pulled out all the stops and really made it feel like a celebration of all that had come before, as is it feels like it’s missing a few imo.
Good video overall, but I find it funny you included the announcement and gameplay trailers for min min but not Joker. He had the game awards trailer, then before he was released he had a full gameplay trailer with a splash screen.
As a Xenoblade fan I’m sad to see you think the trailer was bad, I loved the animation, specially when Mythra shows up, the dialogue was really good as well and the music was excellent!

I felt that your critiques feel extremely nitpicky ngl. Yes, some of the characters are obscure, but you're missing the point at how some of these series and characters are significant in gaming history. The critiques surrounding the smallest aspects just killed it for me as well.
Here's another small detail about Ridley's reveal trailer that most miss... Before he takes out Mega Man & Mario, he waits until they are looking away because Ridley is a very smart, military leader & strategist, he's not going to let his prey see him before he attacks. Especially if he's in a dark room where his skin color would keep keep him hidden.
26:19 The best personal thing I have with this trailer is that when I watched it live I was in class, and turn my luminosity down to not get caught, so I didn't see the spiders and endermen eyes, as well as not having any sound. I ended up figuring it out at the moment you see the blocky wall before Steve mines it, so I kept the hype until the very end and I remember shouting when I saw him Even to this day, it still doesn't feel real
To add something onto Steve's and Banjo's reveal, there was a (mostly memey) debate about who would end up in Smash first, Banjo or Steve, and by god the hilarity that ensued when not only Banjo appeared first, but Steve ALSO appeared later on too For some extra context, look up Grotesque Steve
The first bit of the trailer feeled like a set up for xbc3 or xbc2 DLC. Also, I liked it allot but I played the game. The problem is that the details and mannerisms are missed on people who didn’t play the game.
@@PJDAltamirus0425 I thought it was dlc I'm mixed on if it should've been dlc or shouldn't since I really wished XC2 got more love but this is just as good
Incineroar actually says "In" which is an abbreviated vocalisation of his name. This is accurate to the canon of pokemon speaking only their name in the anime, aside from a few exceptions, mainly legendaries
They’re extremely similar to Corrin in Smash 4 in situation. Both of them got absolutely no love, but both avatars are so stupid fun to play as, the hate they got initially is irrelevant.
As a Byleth main, I want to say that their inclusion in Smash was actually what got me into the main fire emblem series in the first place, so they'll always hold a special place because of that. The same story also goes for Pyra/Mythra with Xenoblade, which has become one of my all-time favorite game series.
One thing I love about the inkling trailer is that before we saw it, people's confidence in Nintendo was so low that so many people were expecting a straight port of Smash for, with maybe a few enhancements. But when we saw Inkling looking up at that flaming emblem (a fire emblem if you will) and we saw Mario, then Link in his BotW look, so many more people knew this wasn't just gonna be Smash for again
For me, my main problem with Byleth isn't really with the character or trailer but his placement: having Byleth be the last character in Fighters Pass 1 (keep in mind Fighters Pass 2 wasn't planned until after all the characters in Pass 1 were decided) wasn't a good idea, especially since the previous four characters in Pass 1 were third party characters from series that didn't have any Smash representation beforehand.
Notice how the trailers in which the character is like "oh hey! I got an invitation for Smash!" are done in the style of their home games Meanwhile the trailers where the character just simply shows up are CGI
Saying Xenoblade "isn’t that popular" is kinda disingenuous. Obviously it isn’t on the level of Mario/Zelda/Pokemon, but it’s still fairly popular (around FE/Metroid level) also a XC2 was actually highly requested and positively well received. Not really contesting the trailer placement, just didn’t agree with those two statements I covered.
This part made me burst out laughing 12:49 Also piranha plant trailer: Mario Characters: Literally got their shields broken Mario: chillin Mario:finds a piranha plant Mario: starts to combo piranha plant Piranha plant: *dodges SIKE Mario: HUH Piranha plant: *down tilt into f smash Piranha plant: *TAUNTS *splash screen
My god, King K. Rool's trailer was something else. All the villains slowly being shown, with their rivalrys, to then show DK on screen was immaculate. It truly was the return of the king.
They should’ve just turn up the volume at the start with Kazuya’s Corridor theme just like Tekken Force Mode. I LOVE that theme. My T4 days was when I started competing in Tekken.
@@NpausAsHawj I love emotionless passion! Such an amazing theme! Also, here's something I just noticed: Terry has Jotaro's pose, and Kazuya has Star Platinum's gloves. I swear this was intentional.
I love it when smash players (mostly American smash players) say "no one knows this character" because what they really mean is "this character is not popular in my country so I'm going to pretend they're not popular everywhere"
The thing I hate about the Byleth trailer is that the first part not only too long, but it has jokes like "Smash has too many Fire Emblem characters" or "Another swordfighter" trying to say "Hey! We know our fans hate this, but we don't care!". But it is like when a movie remake makes a joke about the original movie being better. Saying that is not clever, and it isn't funny
For me personally, I think Sephiroth's trailer was the best one because it made me, as someone who was very unfamiliar with Final Fantasy, really hyped for his inclusion. And the craziest part of this is that I was at work during the reveal so I couldn't watch it live, and I was spoiled on it being Sephiroth before watching the trailer after work. I'm pretty sure I was slightly disappointed when I was spoiled about the character being Sephiroth because after Fighters Pass 1 I felt like the game has way too many JRPG characters, so the fact that the trailer was able to flip my opinion on his inclusion that radically is pretty wild.
"The music isn't anything crazy" your saying that blows my mind. Hikari Orchestral is /the/ track for iconic KH themes. Not only is Simple and Clean...like that, but the music is one of the most symbolic for big leaps for KH. When I think of Hikari orchestral I think of the KH3 reveal trailer, the trailer that told us yes, the game is finally coming. Just like this trailer was Nintendo telling us yes, Sora is finally coming to Smash, he's here. It's a song with a lot of storied history to us and I think no other track, no matter how good it is, would've worked here at all.

Before he takes out Mega Man & Mario, he waits until they are looking away because Ridley is a very smart, military leader & strategist, he's not going to let his prey see him before he attacks. Especially if he's in a dark room where his skin color would keep keep him hidden.
The amount of big puns in your review for ridley

The best personal thing I have with this trailer is that when I watched it live I was in class, and turn my luminosity down to not get caught, so I didn't see the spiders and endermen eyes, as well as not having any sound. I ended up figuring it out at the moment you see the blocky wall before Steve mines it, so I kept the hype until the very end and I remember shouting when I saw him
Even to this day, it still doesn't feel real
Also 8:45 is a refrence of Heihachi Mishima throwing Kazuya off a cliff
Is it a crime that I thought Steve was Monster Hunter until he appeared?
To add something onto Steve's and Banjo's reveal, there was a (mostly memey) debate about who would end up in Smash first, Banjo or Steve, and by god the hilarity that ensued when not only Banjo appeared first, but Steve ALSO appeared later on too
For some extra context, look up Grotesque Steve
The nitpicker about the Steve Trailer. Uhh....ever run out of materials and underestimate what you're building?
I am convinced that when mario says "We hit the big time!" in the Mario movie its a reference to Ridley's reveal trailer.
I don’t care that byleth wasn’t exciting but as long is the character is good it doesn’t matter in the slightest to me
Even though mythra and pyra wasn’t that great of a trailer a lot of people was excited
Yeah, the trailer kinda sucked but the character is really fun.
Steve literally broke the internet. He should’ve been number 1. Never freaked out over a character like that before
I'm pretty sure what "broke" the internet was Steve himself, the trailer was alright imo
we re talking about quality of the trailer not the character reveal itself
steve fans IQ level:
Yeah unfortunately nothing beats Sephiroth and Inklings best trailer using Slaptoon opening theme before revealing Smash Ultimate.
We're not talking about hype lmao.
I main byleth and sure her trailer was bad, but the character itself was very amazing and I love how she works! :)
They’re extremely similar to Corrin in Smash 4 in situation. Both of them got absolutely no love, but both avatars are so stupid fun to play as, the hate they got initially is irrelevant.
Yeah Byleth and Corrin are fun, they probably would've gotten less hate if there weren't already 5 million other FE characters in Smash.
If the 2 echos didn’t exists, would people say the same thing about FE characters in smash? I wonder…
I still remember your reaction to Steve 🤣
Hey CrazyBoy 👋
Hey Crazy Boy
Ken: so you wanna fight fire with fire huh?
Incineroar: EGG
"So you wanna fight fire with fire?"
"EGG"
"my opinion is always correct"
"dry bones for smash"
seems legit
Gotta say as a dragon quest fan seeing all the little Easter eggs and references just like Steve, made it a top 5 pick for me.
Hero’s trailer is fantastic. I can’t stop watching it, especially since Hero was my most wanted character.
Sora’s trailer was one great ending to smash ultimate. Sad to see that that’s the end, however a great ending. Btw Luigi’s gravestone for smash 19:56
I got an invitation for Smash!" are done in the style of their home games
Meanwhile the trailers where the character just simply shows up are CGI
You are the best Chanel on TH-cam.
And saying Terry was obscure. It just made me laugh.
@@Oldschoolgamer13 well, sakurai himself alluded to him not being the most recognizable
This part made me burst out laughing 12:49
Also piranha plant trailer:
Mario Characters: Literally got their shields broken
Mario: chillin
Mario:finds a piranha plant
Mario: starts to combo piranha plant
Piranha plant: *dodges SIKE
Mario: HUH
Piranha plant: *down tilt into f smash
Piranha plant: *TAUNTS
*splash screen
Smash Bros. isn’t over… *the true battle is just beginning.*
My god, King K. Rool's trailer was something else. All the villains slowly being shown, with their rivalrys, to then show DK on screen was immaculate. It truly was the return of the king.
Terry ans Kazuya had the best trailers!
Yes, I'm bias because I'm a fan of both SNK and Tekken!
7:27 hey, it’s a Xenoblade 2 trailer. The chattiness is perfectly adapted from the source material.
I love it when smash players (mostly American smash players) say "no one knows this character" because what they really mean is "this character is not popular in my country so I'm going to pretend they're not popular everywhere"

Hi bro I love your videos keep up the great work!
Your voice got d e e p e r… also love your content bro!
"The thing is about this trailer, the music wasn't anything crazy."
...bro, really?
25:49 You were correct to not bring it down, should’ve just left it at 1.
34:00 I love how he still says dry bones for smash
I didn't have my hopes up for the final character, since I pretty much got all the characters I wanted, but the trailer itself is what made me hyped.
Completely agree with your number 1 choice. Such a brilliant trailer.
ken and incineroar’s trailer place highly for me solely for the last few seconds where villager is shuffling ready to put up his dukes
